Fanduel: LA Weekend

Let’s kick off the weekend shall we. I’d gotten so used to writing for short slate Thursdays that I was almost overwhelmed at all the choices. Without further ado let’s start this weekend off by taking a trip to LA.

First up, the curious case of our boy Joc Pederson, OF: $3,800. Lets phone a friend and see what Son thinks about him: “Even though Pederson sits against lefties, he absolutely mashes righties, to the tune of .280/.401/.704 with a .424 ISO!” Last time I checked Jake Arrieta is right handed. Joc has been rolling this week and should once again find himself batting leadoff. That makes him well worth his price tag.  Also in LA (kinda) we have, Shohei Ohtani, OF: $3,200.  Sadly we missed out on the Ohtani vs Yusei Kikuchi matchup yesterday because, well Brad Asmus. He claims it was because Kikuchi is a lefty. Talk about a missed opportunity. The chance to see two stars from Japan face off wasn’t that great anyways…. I guess. There’s hope that we’ll get to see them square off later this year, but with Asmus, who knows what could happen. Regardless, Ohtani should find himself penciled in today and will look to shake off some of the rust. Get him on your lineup.

Fanduel: Counting Ks

Welcome to a lovely short (and early!) slate today as we kick off Memorial Day Weekend. (Thursday counts as the weekend right?) Maybe it’s the excitement of the next big thing but I’m always drawn to rookies in fantasy. They can be streaky but they can also open with a bang because there’s not much tape on them. This brings us to Corbin Martin (SP: $8,300) His first start was great. Second start, not so much. (zero Ks, seriously?) I chalk that up to him being a young gun. I like his talent and his match up today against the White Sox. Look for him to get back on track and prove to the Astros that he belongs in the rotation. He’ll be back at home where he made is first start when he racked up 9 Ks. That should help him get back in the zone and win your match up. I really like him to ring up the Pale Hose.

FanDuel: Hip, Hip, Jorge

One of the season’s surprise breakouts Jorge Polanco (SS: $4,300) is not showing signs of stopping or even slowing down. On top of the power, he finally added his first steal. Because of the weather concerns, I’ll give you a bonus. You could certainly do worse than Adalberto Mondesi ($3,900) as he’s been lighting it up no matter how much you doubt him. Power and speed to spare, what more do you need? The only reason I wasn’t going to include him is that I’ve written about him before and figured it’s time for someone new. Mostly I’m just hoping that there aren’t any last minute IL announcements like Buster Posey last week.

Thanks for taking a break from watching playoff hockey to play a little fantasy baseball DFS. You won’t find any shorthanded goals here (because that’s not a thing in baseball)

FanDuel: Fresh Ace

Just called up and already priced like an ace? That’s where we find Mike Soroka, (SP: $9,800) The price scares me a little bit, but I’m a big enough believer to Soroka and he’s been rolling since his promotion. What’s not to love? That pristine ERA? The 27 Ks in 23 innings? The fact that the Braves have a strong offense, giving him solid win potential? Or maybe you’re afraid of the D Backs offense that will be stepping into the box against him. They’re not a terrible offense but I don’t think I would describe them as elite. This isn’t his first taste of the show so he’s not completely green. Lock him in.

Fanduel: The Lowe Down

With the promotion of first baseman Nate Lowe ($2,300) the Rays have made life difficult for fantasy players who are looking for Brandon Lowe ($3,700) and pick the wrong one. Fortunately, they both make good plays today. Jorge Lopez does not present a great challenge. Brandon has been doing quite well in April, rocking a solid average with lovely counting stats. As for Nate, he could be a monster as he has the tools to provide power and a high average. Either way, going “Lowe” could take you high.

Fanduel: Shipping Up To Boston

If you’re looking to go big you might as well go as big as you can. J.D. Martinez ($4,000) is one of the robot’s favorite bats on the day. He’s been one of the few bright spots for the Sox offensively. He’s rocking a great average but his power numbers haven’t followed suite so maybe he’s been a disappointment too. Actually the bot loves the entire Sox outfield which means Mookie Betts ($3,900) and Andrew Benintendi ($3,800) are also great plays as well. Don’t write them off just because Boston has, shall we say, not lived up to expectations thus far. All three are great talents and eventually that talent will win out. Mookie is still one of the best players in the game and Beni is a solid across the board contributor. Just Dong is the highlight for today because chicks dig the long ball. (I’m pretty sure everyone digs the long ball) All it takes is one swing of the bat for him to make your day, especially if his outfield buddies can get on base in front of him. Ship yourself on up to Boston and grab these guys while you can.

Fanduel: Joc Mash

Time to power up. Joc Pederson ($4,900) has been absolutely mashing, and this past week he’s turned it up to 11, putting 5 in the seats. Let’s keep it rolling with another bomb or 12. It’s not quite Coors, but Miller Park is pretty good for power too. (Side note, is anyone else thirsty?) Maybe the most impressive part about his start to the season is that he’s actually carrying a decent average. Joc has always had the power, but now he’s rounding out his game and that means big things. It’s gonna be yuge.

Welcome back to “Who Wants to be a Fantasy Millionaire?” No, not a millionaire like Mike Trout, we don’t quite have that power. But if you play your cards right you could come out ahead today. In order to do that you’ll need to anchor you team with a beast like Cody Bellinger ($5,100) – He has come out of the gates swinging and is absolutely on fire batting over .400 with 7 bombs already. That’s the power we crave. Lock it in. The beast has awoken and I have a feeling this won’t be the last time I highlight him here. He may be expensive, but he’s someone you should pay up for.

Fanduel: Chugging the Syrup

Do you ever get the urge to sip on some syrup, Super Troopers style? Maybe is just me or I’m in the mood for breakfast. Whelp, we’re way off topic now, guess it’s time to bring up James Paxton, who is currently priced at $10,600 .“Big Maple” is one of the top options of the day at pitcher. He’s got more than enough talent to handle facing the O’s again for the second time in a week. Camden Yards favors power, but let’s trust in Paxton’s ability.  I feel good about the Yankees offense backing him up a bit more and getting him a win with some good strikeout upside. Bring it on.

What is up party people? We have finally arrived at that magical day. Opening Day 2019 is upon us. This is one of the most exciting days of the year because it’s a clean slate, everyone starts fresh and everyone is a contender. Draft: Ace Day

Welcome into a sad day here at Razzball does Draft, the final Monday of the regular season. At least we get to go out with Ace Day as Corey Kluber, Luis Severino, Stephen Strasburg, and Clayton Kershaw are all scheduled to take the mound. You don’t need me to tell you that all 4 are great plays. In light of that, let’s go deep and look past the obvious pitchers. Draft: Glas Half Full

Here we are, the penultimate Monday edition of Razzball does Draft. But don’t let that get you down — look on the bright side. We’ve still got two more weeks, and the pennant races mean we get some of the best baseball yet.

Taking on the Rangers puts a pitcher in a favorable spot. Texas has been known to whiff on many occasions, which is always good for fantasy. With Tyler Glasnow, the strikeout potential is always there, and I love it. He has a top-prospect pedigree and is finally getting a chance to stretch his legs and show what he can do with the Rays. That makes Glasnow my favorite value pitcher to turn in a winning performance and fill up your glass.
