Draft: A Very Super Talented Baseball Man

Welcome back to another edition of “Who to Draft on Draft” with your host, Butters. Sadly, the season is drawing near its end. But fear not, I’m here for you. Our first contestant is finally putting it together, especially this past month. He’s gone 33 strong innings, allowing just 7 runs while racking up 31 Ks. And despite pitching for the Royals, he’s even picked up a couple wins. I’m talking about the very super talented baseball man Jakob Junis. The match-up against the offensively inept White Sox is very enticing and should allow him to keep rolling. And the best part is, he should be available in the mid-rounds. Scratch that: the best part is this. Baseball really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Draft: Going Deep

Welcome back to another round of DFS on Draft.com to start your week off right. As the calendar turns to September and the regular season begins to wane, the focus of many a fantasy player shifts to football. But not us. We are the dedicated ones. The ones who aren’t quite ready to let baseball go. Fortunately, you’ve come to the right place. For Labor Day, I want to skip past the big names. At this point in the season, you already have an idea of who the top players are, and you don’t need me to tell you to draft a guy like Max Scherzer or Mike Trout; they’re among the best players in the game today, and possibly ever. Draft: Playing the Harp(er)

The top bat on the day, according to the all-knowing Hittertron, is none other than Bryce Harper. He’s really started to come around in the second half as he’s raised his average up to around .250. That’s still not great, but it’s a far sight better than the sub-.220 it was for a while. Plus, with the power upside he has, you can live with a low average. He was held out of Sunday’s lineup with an illness but was able to come off the bench and go 2/2 with 3 RBIs, so maybe he should play sick more often. It’s a good idea to fire him up in your lineup today on Draft.com.

Draft: Wheeler Dealer

Wheeler dealer: the big man who makes things run (says a handy Google search. What the hell did we do before Google? Lived in ignorance, that’s what). Of course I’m hoping that Zach Wheeler makes your DFS team run on Draft.com today, not the Giants’ hitters. But over the last month, he’s been wheelin’ and dealin’, giving you innings and K’s, so I fully expect that to continue against the Giants, whose offense has been anything but giant. You may not be looking at a win, as the Mets have offensive struggles of their own, but he should have no trouble mowing down the Giants bats. Let’s take a look at who else is out there.

Draft: Soto, We’re Not in Kansas Anymore

Can we all just take a moment on this fine Monday morning to appreciate what Juan Soto is doing? It truly is incredible. At 19 and having come straight from Double A, he’s taken the league by storm and should be well on his way to ROY honors. He’s hitting for power (14) and average (.303), plus he’s walking at an impressive clip (17%). That last stat puts him near the top of the league. Perhaps his most impressive stat is his wRC+, which corrects for park factors to show how well Soto creates runs. He currently sits behind only 5 other hitters in that regard; he could be among the top for teens, all time. Oh yeah, his OPS is .975, too. That’s a lot of fancy stats to tell you this teenager might be pretty good. But here’s the most important factor of all: Hittertron likes him tomorrow for your lineup on Draft.com. What more do you need to know?

Draft: Dining at Morton’s

As a Giants fan, it pains me to say this, but you really should get Charlie Morton in your lineups today. Come for that great sub-3 ERA, but stay for the 159 Ks in 124 innings. Add in the fact that he takes the mound in the Bay against a Giants team that doesn’t score a ton of runs and is still missing Brandon Belt. Buster Posey has also been plagued by injuries this season, so I wouldn’t be shocked if he gets a rest. Mix all that together and we’re looking at great things from Morton. I think we should expect a steak dinner.

Draft: Votto And The Art Of The Pop

Did you know he’s popped out only 7 times since 2010, and that the average major league batter would have popped out at least twice that many times? And that he’s never popped out to the pitcher, catcher, or first baseman in his career? I’m talking, of course, about Joey Votto. Wait… one of those stats is wrong. The average MLB player would actually have popped up 127 times in that same span. Crazy, right? Like seriously, that is an insane stat. He may seem boring, but you can count on him to put up numbers. If nothing else, he is reliable. Don’t let that make him boring, and definitely don’t let someone else draft him.

We are fortunate enough to have a few ace-level guys going on this fine Monday and it’s never a bad idea to lock one up in the first round. But with solid pitching options behind them, you have a great opportunity to grab a bat or two and give yourself a top-notch offense.

Draft: Time To Turn To Castillo?

Going into the season, there was a lot of hype surrounding Luis Castillo. And why not? After all, he was pretty damn good last year, with a 3.12 ERA and 1.07 WHIP. The WHIP is especially noteworthy because it would have tied him for 7th best in the league, had he thrown enough innings to qualify. And he tacked on 98 Ks in only 89.1 innings. Fast forward to this season and… well, he hasn’t been good. In roughly the same number of innings, the ERA is above 5 and his WHIP has risen to 1.41. So why am I telling you all of this and then leading with him? Well, I’m glad you asked, citizens of the Internet. And if you didn’t, I’m going to tell you anyways. First, because Stream-o-Nator says you should start him. Second, because I have him in a season league and I’d really like him to do well.  Third, he gets the White Sox and their anemic offense and that elite upside is still there. Go big, take a chance and reap the rewards. (Don’t @ me if this one doesn’t pan out.)

Draft: Trout Dinner

I’m going to change things up a little bit for this fine Monday morning. Normally I advise you to get in on the top pitchers for your slate on Draft for any given day, because that can make or break your day. Even today, we have a certified ace in Justin Verlander making a favorable start against the Blue Jays. He makes for a fine first pick, or even a steal with your second. However, today there are multiple pitching options that I like later. This gives you the chance to lock up the best player in baseball: go get you some Mike Trout.  Over the last month, he has raised his always-incredible performance to another level. Don’t question your pick if he’s still on the board. It really is crazy how good he is. And you would be even crazier not to take him.

Draft: Make Sure You Strike First

Hope everyone had a wonderful Father’s Day, but now it’s time to get back to the grind. And what better way is there to start the week than by dominating DFS on Draft.com? I know I can’t think of one. So much about baseball is unpredictable, which makes it important to lock up pitching early in daily games. Be sure to take note of the first two pitchers below: Trevor Bauer and Gerrit Cole. You can find position players later. Streamonator loves both these guys and you should, too. For the record, I love them too, but I imagine you trust Streamonator more than you trust me.
