We took a look at hitters last week which means its time for pitchers. Below you will find the scoring formula that I used to arrive at these numbers based on the Razzball/Steamer projections

Innings Pitched (IP)  3

Hits Allowed (H) -1

Earned Runs (ER) -2

Walks Issued (BB) -1

Strikeouts 1

Wins (W) 5

Losses (L)   -5

Saves (SV) 5

I’m sure the first question on everyone’s mind is where does first half superstar Shohei Ohtani land on this list and in the overall projections. He comes in quite a bit lower than I was expecting, barely making the list at all with only 100.9 points projected from his time on the mound. Combined with his batting numbers his overall projection is 285 which would make him the number one player over the season’s second half. He is only projected to throw 42 innings which seems like a total he can surpass. It will be interesting to see how the Angels choose to deploy him in the second half, but if he continues to make regular starts on the mound his point total could shoot up.

Let’s get the second half of the season underway. There’s only one game today so the format is a little different. For a single game we get a 5 man roster: MVP (2x points), Star (1.5x points) and 3 utility players. So lets have some fun with it and win some money. Read on for my roster today and best of luck to ya.

Well folks it’s that time of the season. With the All Star Game next week it’s time to reassess things for the second half of the season. There’s still quite a bit of baseball left to be played so now is the time to take a look at your team and see where you can improve. So to help you out with those tough decisions, I have re-run the numbers to rank the top 100 hitters for the rest of the season. These numbers are pulled from the Razzball Steamer ROS projections and then I totaled up the points according to this scoring format (ESPN standard):

Run 1 point

Total Bases 1 point

RBI 1 point

Walk 1 point

Stolen Base 1 point

Strikeout minus 1 point

This week we’ll be looking at hitters. Tune in next week for the ROS pitching projections. So, what can we expect as the season moves into it’s second half?

What is up party people? Who’s ready to get bold and win some sweet, sweet DFS cash. Let’s start off with a  gamble on Joc Pederson (OF: $2,900)and the tremendous power he possesses. This is a risk/reward play because he’s a streaky hitter and likely always will be. The bot likes him today which brings him into play for us. The match-up shouldn’t turn you off and with his price, you can put your savings to work spending big elsewhere.

It’s July and with the MLB All-Star Break almost upon us, it seems fitting to take a look at the points league all-stars. This is for season performance to date so they will be among the top points scorers but I am giving a little more weight to guys that are outperforming their draft position. The fantasy MVP has to be Shohei Ohtani (406) He has more points than anyone else and yet his ADP was in the 40s. As a two-way player, he’s basically a cheat code in daily leagues, giving you an extra roster spot. Start him at pitcher when he’s on the mound and at DH when he’s not. Obviously, for weekly lineups, his value isn’t quite as sky-high because you miss out on more of his points but he’s still been amazing. He’s been impressive no matter what position he’s at with a power/speed combo at the plate and massive K upside on the mound. At only 26 years old the sky is the limit and he should easily be the number one overall pick next season in leagues where he’s a two-way player.

Other than the Sho, here are my other Fantasy All-Star picks.

Welcome to July and what better way is there to kick off the month and get ready for the holiday weekend than by winning some sweet DFS cash?  Dylan Carlson (OF: $3,300) is just the guy to help you do that. The price is good, the projection is better. No matter where he bats in the order, he will be a great play. I’ll take a top-five guy for that value any day of the week. Fire him up with full confidence.

What is up people. We are steaming right into the midst of summer and that means the balls will start flying. Of course pitcher not being able to spin their pitches as much with the “sticky stuff” will probably help hitters as well. Either way we could be in for a power binge. One guy who’s heating up along with the weather is Bryan Reynolds. Now I know he may not be the sexiest name in fantasy sports but he’s been getting it done with power as well as smacking doubles. I absolutely love what he’s been doing all season long and I’m not alone in that judging by his roster percentage being over 90. If you happen to be in that last ten-ish percent of leagues… you know what to do. The most impressive part about his season is that he’s managed to maintain the high batting average he was known for while tapping into a power source that he didn’t show earlier in his career. If you already have him, hold on loosley, don’t let go. And if you don’t have him, I would kick the tires and see if his manager doesn’t believe in the results.

What is up party people? Are you ready to win some cash salad, I know I am. So let me be your guide to finding the diamond in the rough to get an edge on your competition. A guy like Amed Rosario (SS: $2,300).  This price is too good to pass up for what his projection says. This is the kind of value that you love to see. He’s the perfect complement to a high-priced pitcher or outfielder (foreshadowing alert). So strap in and let’s pick some winners.

Now that we’re midway into June we’re really starting to see who the studs and duds are. Now that guys have established themselves and we have a large enough sample size to identify consistent fantasy contributes. So with that in mind now seems like a good time to check in on my preseason rankings. Prior to the season I went over the unique challenges that points leagues pose to fantasy players. Hey, I’m the points guy so you’re darn tootin that I’m gonna make it sound like points leagues are the most difficult format and you would be lost without me to guide you. So let’s check in on the top points scorers are and see who is outperforming their ranking and who is making you want to give up fantasy baseball forever. As I sat down to write this and started looking at who’s on top I realized I made an error in my initial rankings. Yes, I made a mistake, not often, but it happens. When I crunched the numbers based on projections I neglected to combine Shohei Ohtani into one player and instead had him listed as two separate players. I know there are formats where he is separated, but he really should be one player who is eligible at both pitcher and DH. If he picks up OF eligibility it will be icing on the cake. Anyhoo, he’s the top fantasy points scorer this season, and it’s not like he’s barely ahead. There isn’t much I can say about him that hasn’t already been said, he’s simply been incredible this season and he should be the number one overall pick next season if can keep rolling. He would have checked in at number 10 in my preseason ranks had I added up his pitching and hitting numbers. That’s still an incredibly valuable player, just not far and away the best.

My favorite picks are the one’s the bot loves but aren’t the usual suspects. Shohei Ohtani has been nothing short of excellent but you don’t need me to tell you that. The same goes for Fernando Tatis Jr. Off the beaten path is  Avisail Garcia, OF: $3,100 – Take this one to the bank. Garcia’s projection is too good to ignore at his price. Throw out what you think you know and lose yourself in the moment. He’s in prime position seriously outperform what it’ll cost you to add him to your roster.

The season is rolling along and the men are starting to separate themselves from the boys. Jessie Winker added 32 points this week bringing his season total to a cool 200. That’s good for top 5 among hitters. He’s really been a revelation this season and is showing no signs of slowing down. The power has been everything you could want and even better he’s hitting for a high average as well. That’s a fantasy star right there. Pretty dang good for a guy who was likely taken late in drafts. He has to be the fantasy MVP thus far and could end up being a league winner. Now on to some other hitters who are riding a good 7 day stretch.

I see your value play today… Ty France (2B: $2,200) There’s more to like than just his bargain price. He’s really come on strong lately and seems to be delivering on the breakout promise he had coming into the season. The injury really cramped his style but he’s looking right as rain now.
