After focusing on pitchers last week, I felt that we should examine what makes a good points league hitter. We already know the total bases are the main points driver when you boil it down. Home runs are worth 6 points but 4 of them come from touching all the bases. Go to a list of all players and sort by total bases, while it may not match the top 10 points scorers, but all those players are doing quite well.

Sometimes, you just want to come right out of the gates with a home run. Here ya go folks, Willie Calhoun (OF: $3,700) is today’s best hitter according to the great and powerful bot. The numbers have been good for fantasy even if the power isn’t outstanding. Fortunately, Coors has a funny way of making everyone a home run king. Don’t hesitate, don’t overthink it. Fire him up.

We’ve looked a hitters the last couple weeks so lets turn our attention from the box to the mound. Specifically, let’s look at what makes a good points league pitcher and hopefully identify some guys to target. In my preseason strategy piece I discussed the value in prioritizing innings eaters over strikeout kings. Now that we’re a couple months into the season, lets see if that was a valid strategy.

Who’s ready for some more Thirsty Thursday DFS? Tommy Edman (2B: $2,600) sure is. He’s riding a nice hot streak and that’s a train you should climb aboard. Tickets aren’t too expensive and the tracks look clear ahead. As a bonus he can also slot into an outfield spot if you would prefer that. He’s a top 10 hitter today but you aren’t paying him like one. Full steam ahead.

What’s up party people? It’s your friendly neighborhood Butters here to help fix your points league rosters. So smash that like and subscribe button and let’s get on to some bats who can help you out. Number one on that list is Willie Calhoun who should really be on more rosters, if only for the power potential. He’s been DH (aka Utility) eligible only but you can now deploy him in the outfield and that’s a beautiful thing. I’m encouraged by his start to the season, particularly that he’s managed to keep his average around .275. I would be grabbing him everywhere to see if this is the season he gets some things figured out. All he (and any of the other guys here) cost is the worst player on your roster.

It’s Thursday and that means its time to win some sweet sweet DFS money. So let’s get right down to it and find some great values like Javier Baez (SS: $3,300) He’s been doing his thing which is hit bombs and steal bases. And the average ain’t half bad either. He’s on a roll right now so get him in your lineup and wave bye bye bye to the the competition.

One of the great things about points leagues is that they are very straightforward. You don’t have to balance out a guy with a poor average who hits bombs or steals bases. All we need are the guys at each position that score the most points. “Wow, that’s so smart, why didn’t I think of that earlier?”  Yes, I can hear the groans now. Obviously, you know that the team with more points wins. What I’m getting at is that at the end of the day we have a nice clean number to quantify fantasy performance. So what’s my point you ask? Well, it also highlights the differences between points leagues and categories. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at how the player rater compares to the current points standings.

Welcome in to another edition of Razzball does Fanduel. I’m your host, butters, and I’ll be your guide to getting the edge on the competition and walking away with  the jackpot. The entire Reds outfield is primed to put up some big numbers today but Tyler Naquin (OF: $3,400) represents the best value out of the group so he’s the one you should be targeting. He’s been racking up the points and his price tag isn’t ridiculous, especially since we’re getting that beautiful Coors boost. Fire him up and don’t look back, just enjoy the show. He’s rolling right now so let’s roll with him.

The season is in full swing and unfortunately players are dropping like flies. Is it just me or does it feel like injuries have been through the roof this season? Don’t forget to check out JKJ’s injury roundup for the prognosis. Likely you’re now in need of replacements and if your team has avoided the injury bug, well good for you. In any case a little extra depth is never a bad thing. We’ll mostly be looking at hitters today but there is one notable pitcher who deserves your attention. Dylan Cease has turned in back to back starts that were everything you could hope for. The Ks are flowing, and the ceiling is the roof. His raw stuff is amazing but his control has always held him back. He was my bold pick for Cy Young so I’m loving watching him put it all together. He won’t last long.

Have you ever refused to draft a player that’s been hyped up because you’re not ready to be hurt again? You look at him in league after league, draft after draft and tell yourself to stay strong and not give in. You’ve been down this road before and gotten burned. Then the season starts and your guy is everything you wanted him to be and more. But he’s not on your roster and you’re forced to watch him do his thing for someone else. Fortunately, DFS is your second chance. I didn’t want to buy into Byron Buxton (OF: $4,400) and his tantalizing potential. I’ve drafted him many times before only to be let down. This season, however, he seems to have it figured out and is lighting the world on fire. Yes he commands a high price but you can’t say it’s not warranted.

Hopefully, you’re all 3-0 and well on your way to a 4th dub, but there’s no time to rest on your laurels. You’ve got to stay active on the wire and always be looking for ways to improve your team. In-season roster management is the path to a title. Every year we see guys get hot and surprise us. With that in mind let’s take a look at some guys who have started strong and should have higher roster percentages. A prime example is Buster Posey who has turned back the clock to 2012 and is scorching hot right now. He’s always been a guy who can hit for a high average but it’s great to see him dropping some bombs this season. The pendulum has swung back on Buster after a couple of years of him being overvalued based on his name.  As a Giants fan, you love to see it and as a fantasy manager, you should be checking the wire to see if the rest of your league hasn’t bought in yet.

What is up party people, we’re back with a brand new edition of DFS action. Lets spin those beats and win son cash salad. DJ LeMahieu, 2B: $2,700 – Real tough to pass him up at this price. And by tough I mean make sure you have him. He’s the top rated option despite his slow start and it’s only a matter of time before the hot streak comes. Get him, get him now.
