I hate it when the vagueness of an arm injury slams your roster and places the top closer on the DL.  Andrew Miller hit it yesterday with a forearm strain.  How could it be strained if there are fore of them?  I mean aren’t the other three there, to be like, back-up dancers?  The only good thing for you and the Yankees is that there is another top-5 relief pitcher in the mix.  Dellin Betances will take over as the lead sled dog in the saves in the Bronx.  After that, on the off chance you need a third option, there is Adam Warren, which is a deep shot in the dark.  Crazy as that sounds, and I dig that he is still starting, but if this drags out for Miller, he could return to what was excellent form from out of the pen last year.   If by all intents and purposes you are reaching this far down for saves or speculating that the Yankees are in trouble… then stick around for some extra tidbits,  there are a quite few this week.  Cheers!

  • The Cubs finally dipped into the free agent pool and caught Rafi Soriano.  Fishing in a swimming pool, yeah, seems crazy.  He worked well for Maddon previously and the lack of a stand up ooh-ooh pick me guy there, he could see some sort of form to get some saves.  Worth an add and monitoring of his usage.
  • Man do I love Pat Neshek, ask any of the chaps I play fantasy with.  For now, let’s say that if you are owning Chad Qualls, you shouldn’t be.  If Neshek is owned, grab Fields.  Fields is owned?  Grab Harris.  The Astros are so dang deep in the pen, most are ownable in all formats.  Pat led the week with 4 Holds and is now the belt wearing Hold champ for week 10.
  • Carson Smith got the job… for now or finally.  Choose your cliche.  Lloyd pronounces it, click and spells out ampersands.  Nuff said.
  • Everyone is looking for that guy who could go on a run for Holds and be in a prime position for them.  I am looking at J.J. Hoover here.  Jumbo gets demoted, Cingrani sans the SP elig has been meh and borderline awful at times.  Hoover has 16 consecutive unscored upon appearances and is starting to get more high leverage type situations.
  • Do yourself a favor, go look at your league. Is Jim Johnson available?  Good go add him for spec saves.
  • Jake McGee doesn’t get enough love.  Since returning from injury there’s been one bad outing where he served up all his earned runs on a 3 run tater to Seager. Since then 4 straight hold garnered appearances.   I realize the closer hype is waning or up and down, but he is still a servicable swing guy to have as that second reliever.
  • The “under the usual eye” reliever of the week is Scott Oberg. With a favorable schedule up ahead and 7 away from Colorado. Look for him to log some quality hold type innings.
