It only took 33 episodes, but we finally have the Supreme Leader/Fantasy Master Lothario/The Uno/Capo dei Capi Grey Albright. We talk about some of the camp battle winners, interesting rookies and young players for 2017. Grey loses his mind at the thought of a joint business venture with Dusty Baker. We Get into Eric Thames vs Jesus Aguilar. We cry a little over Koda Glover, hug it out over Aaron Judge, and debate the merits and pitfalls of Korean pitching. After Grey leaves to get lunch, Halp and I jump into some of the top prospects in the 2017 MLB Draft. IT’s early but we wanted to get you introduced to some of the names we’ll be covering in the coming months. It’s the 33rd Episode of the Razzball Prospect Podcast

I didn’t listen but I drafted Aguilar in my 15 team 30 round NFBC draft tonight… with the last pick.

      @J-FOH: Nice. Nothing to lose

@J-FOH: Nice! Every team needs a Jesus.

    Ralph

Wondering what you expect from haniger looks like he will bat second in Seattle.

    Thanks

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      (link)

@Brett: I’m really not sure, the range of outcomes is pretty large. I’m hoping he can be a .270/20/5 guy this season, I think he has more upside than that, but it remains to be seen.

  3. Nitro says:

10 team head to head league. With holds and saves:
Which side? Kluber and Addison Reed and CMart.
    Thanks

      @Nitro: Kluber/Addison

  4. Nitro says:

    Wow. That was a fail.
Kluber and A Reed or Cmart and A Miller.

@Nitro: C Mart and Miller then! Haha

    Ralph / Halp

Podcast is awesome, especially the point about Korean pitching.

16 team dynasty, 13 man minor league rosters … I have Brock Stewart and Stephen Gonsalves stashed on my minor league roster, but both have shoulder problems at the moment with Stewart being shut down until May.

My league rules allow picking up prospects during the season so long they’re in the yahoo data-base.

Dakota Hudson, Junior Fernandez, Luiz Gohara are still available — do I swap out Stewart and Gonsalves for any of these guys?

Also, Rhys Hoskins and Harrison Bader are still available — considering the pitchers I’m looking at, should I move on from them and focus on Hoskins and Bader as possible replacements for Stewart and Gonsalves?

    Thanks, Fellas!

    • halp

      Halp says:
      (link)

@Racehorse: Thanks, Racehorse. I would definitely go with Bader. St. Louis named him the starting CF in Triple-A and were talking up how great he looks. I’m not a big Stewart guy, so he would be my drop. I would hang on to Gonsalves.

As far as the pitchers go, it’s tough not to like Gohara, but I’m concerned about his injury history too.

      • Ralph Lifshitz

        Ralph Lifshitz says:
        (link)

@Halp: Agree with Halp I’d drop Stewart for Bader. I’d probably drop Gonsalves too for Hoskins or Gohara. I’d lean Hoskins.

  6. breadnbutter says:
    (link)

    Zack Wheeler or Robert Gsellman?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@breadnbutter: Gsellman all day, every day. I love his sinker/cutter/slider mix. Was watching his last start vs St. Louis and he’s the goods. Gets tons of grounders, swings and misses, and generally weak contact. I think he could be NL ROY.

  7. G says:
    (link)

Haven’t had a chance to listen yet but wanted to get your quick take on Yandy Diaz who just got a roster spot and will be filling in for Kipnis?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@G: HAHAHAHA We talk Yandy a little. Mostly his massive biceps.

  8. Pousse-Pousse says:
    (link)

Be honest with with me. Who would you fill an MI slot with, Arica or Mondesi?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@Pousse-Pousse: I’d go with Arcia, but it’s real close.

  9. S-wilk says:
    (link)

12 man NFBC. How much FAAB should I spend on Treinen?

    Currently have:

    Jansen
    Iglesias
    Doolittle

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

      @S-wilk: Yeah go for it.

  10. Crabman says:
    (link)

Trying to get my hands on Brinson before he becomes expensive. Would have to give up franco. What else should i ask for to unite me with my prospect crush.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@Crabman: Depends how much more you feel you need.

  11. Lary says:
    (link)

Haha i wasted 4$ on Marcus Thames last week. Unfortunately its Eric Thames on the bewers.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

      @Lary: Hahaha wow!

  12. Hugman says:
    (link)

There’s a pretty decent Korean pitcher in the St. Louis bullpen.

    • Hugman says:
      (link)

@Hugman: not that that has anything to do with the overall level of pitching Korean players face.

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@Hugman: Haha I forget he was Korean because of his long Japanese career. Park was solid too.

16 team dynasty with OBP over average, hits, slugging, OPS, total bases, steals % added for hitters, and holds, QS, K/9, K/BB, net saves added 10 X 10 roto. 1750 max innings. man don’t do a lot of start up dynasty drafts, lots of crazy values in older guys
C d’arnaud (331, somehow i forgot to rank molina and he went even later)
1B miggy (22nd, like this, could’ve gone freeman)
2B solarte party (278, could’ve went schimpf, but this guy hella safer)
SS semien (171, a crazy SS run just before this, missed miller barely)
    3B longo (86)
MI jose ram (139, he’ll get 2B in 5 games too, missed peraza)
CI hanram (150, sat at top of board for rounds)
    LF brocktune (54)
    CF kiermaier (235)
RF mookie (11, at F’ING 11th in a DYNASTY what!)
OF – jd mart RF (75, i had cooked his injury in my rankings, but god damn)
    OF – rajai CF/LF (267)
    util r-zimm (374)
    util joyce LF/RF (406)
    BN
NA (2 slots, one is used up with kang, gotten at crazy discount)
    – aj reed (342)
    – kang (310)
SP (7 with one as a streamer)
    – cueto (43, all the guys i wanted more gone including darvish, but i had to get one now)
    – hamels (107)
    – rodon (182 recent injury devalued him, i don’t care if he’s out for a month)
    – moore (246)
    – skaggs (299, it was him or nova here)
    – triggs (395, in redraft QS i go chen/hammel here, but dynasty)
    -streamer
    RP (6)
    – kimbrel (118, ya get hurt for one year and lose about 45 spots or more?)
    – n.jones (203, got beat to bearclaw)
    – neris (214)
    – rivero (363)
    – knebel (427)
    – p.baez (438)
got 5 DL’s in case i need room for all of jd mart/baez/rodon. stanton went 4 picks ahead of me at 50th, i almost skipped cueto to grab him and definitely would’ve grabbed him at 54, which would’ve put me in a weird pickle later at some position probably, already having mookie at RF, albeit i got the crazy jd mart RF value later anyway. couldn’t risk having carmart/carrasco as ace (not to mention no guarantee both of those would even be around in round 4 for me anyway). in hindsight carmart (or carrasco) + stanton might’ve been better than cueto + jd mart.
also we did a 7 man protected prospect list on message board before the draft, have this:
    meadows CF PIT
    reyes SP STL
    k.lewis RF SEA
    i.diaz SS/2B MIL
    collins C WSOX
    fedde SP WAS
    fisher RF HOU
hard to believe fisher wasn’t picked before that, he’s not even on BA’s top 100, that could be it

Bringing the comment/question over here to continue.

    Re: Stashing Alex Reyes

So this makes him an excellent candidate as a ML stash. I can shove him on the DL for this season. We have enough bench spots to do this. Then next year before the season starts, when we announce our keepers, we also have to pick a minor league eligible player (if we have any) to keep in our ML spot. The question is will he be on the DL come end of March time or reassigned to the ML so that he is eligible for the ML spot. For example Yoan Moncada was the perfect player for this this season. Right now someone got to keep Moncada in their ML spot because he was sent down. It’s almost like getting another keeper. I did this with Wil Myers, Kris Bryant and Carlos Rodon in recent years.

Some jackhole drafted Gleyber in the 14th round. Turns out it was an accidental auto-draft pick. He went to the bathroom and his turn swung around and the way he had the players in his queue was not actually in order of importance and since he was on the swing it grabbed the top two. I’m hoping he drops him, but I doubt it since he clearly wanted him at some point in the draft.

I’m also considering just grabbing Maitan and holding him for a few years, but I might be able to do that next year instead of right now.
