After [player]Pablo Sandoval[/player] hit three homers in a World Series game last year, he sat down with Reggie Jackson for a conversation in December. Reggie wanted to know what the experience was like for him and to tell him his own. By the end of the conversation, Pablo was near tears, he whispered to Reggie, barely able to get the words out, "The fans threw candy bars onto the field?" Pablo Sandoval's like the condensed milk version of [player]Jay Bruce[/player]. It's not really milk, but it's real sweet and kinda tastes like milk and frosting and it gets crazy hot for one game a year. Jesus, Pablo (no relation to Jesus Guzman), if I would've known all it took to get you hot was to say you're droppable, I would've done it in April. He still cost a lot of people their fantasy seasons, and is probably on a lot of teams that are out of the race, but, if you have him, you gotta hope this is the start of something. Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Nick Castellanos a ti, Nick Castellanos a ti, Nick Castellanos a ti... Oh, sorry, I didn't here you walk in. I was just singing Happy Birthday in Spanish with a Greek player's name to anyone that was born on September 2nd. I'm glad you're here. Sit down. You just sat down on the birthday cake. Okay, forget that now. This weekend rosters expanded, and with it the promise of a greater tomorrow. Yay, Billy Hamilton is going to steal 78 bases in September. Nick Castellanos will hit 12 homers and fix this gaping hole in my lineup I call, "Josh Hamilton Sucks." All of the guys called up will be great (no, they won't, but some may). It doesn't mean they will be great immediately or even have the playing time to succeed this year. In keepers, obviously you pursue these players hard and fast like you're Gosh Johnson, Josh's porn star brother. In redraft leagues where you are desperate for SAGNOF, I'd grab Billy Hamilton now. If you have an open spot in your lineup and Hamilton isn't playing, I'd still insert him and watch him get a steal in a pinch running appearance. Nick Castellanos is another ball of fruit -- a melon ball, if you will. If he doesn't have playing time, he adds nothing for redraft leagues. I will reiterate what Prospect Scott said yesterday, "I like his former teammate, [player]Avisail Garcia[/player], better and Grey is an idiot." Okay, I will only reiterate the first part of that. In redraft leagues, you don't want someone who will be great next year, you want someone who is swinging a hot bat right now. Now, go clean the cake off your ass. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

King Hodor of the House of Hodor. First of his Hodor. Long may he Hodor.

At this point, there appear to be more trades occurring after the July 31st deadline. In fact, just yesterday, [player id =3035]Mike Morse[/player] was acquired by the Orioles, [player]Jason Kubel[/player] was acquired by the Indians, and, as you may or may not have realized yet, [player]John Axford[/player] and his, well, what ever you call the things he grows on his face, has been acquired by Ozark nation. Which, if you don't know the area, is known for abandoned El Caminos and the second highest murder rate in the nation, next to Detroit. Err, Detroit, the RoboCop version. What's the fantasy impact? I'm sure glad I just asked myself that question. Mike Morse's situation changes a bit, a better hitting environment and a better lineup could lead to some stat boosting. Jason Kubel, well, he remains the same. Insignificant. Frankly, I don't even understand the move, since the Indians are already paying for a player (cough, [player]Mark Reynolds[/player], cough) that's doing better right now, yet plays for the Yankees. Ballsy strategy if you ask me. And then there's John Axford. I'll be honest, since I lie all the time I guess, the impact here is not much, if anything. But I do like Axford drinking the same water those other Cardinal pitchers are drinking, and would not be surprised if his situation improves next year. So keep a look out. Here’s what else I noticed yesterday…

Six days ago, the Rays said they have no plans to call up Wil Myers. Six days ago, the Rays lied. They might've just lied to make Jim Bowden look stupid. While I appreciate that, Bowden rides around on a Segway, so the Rays were piling on. About two weeks ago, I gave you my Wil Myers fantasy. Lets' not recapitulate any of that, okay? Let's not talk about how Myers could hit 20 homers in two-thirds of a season. Or how Myers could hit .280 with solid counting stats. If you want to read about the risk of rookies, go to that post and read that. I'm not here to talk about how Myers is the number one prospect call-up or how he's worthwhile in all mixed leagues, but won't be [player]Mike Trout[/player]. I'm not going to talk about any of that. Dah! I just did, didn't I? Damn, you fooled me! Myers is the kind of player that probably has the most value right now. He's going to be a top round fantasy guy. Eventually. Yes, I just did the douchey one word sentence thing. Right now, he's around a 4th outfielder. Of course, he's draped in glorious upside. You could yell at him the same way you do to a Home Depot employee, "Hey, Toolsy!" For the future, he reminds me of an in-his-prime [player]Matt Holliday[/player]. He's a 30-ish homer, 15-ish steal guy with a solid average. Eventually. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Andy Pettitte managed to shut out the Rays yesterday for 7 1/3 IP with only 4 baserunners and 10 Ks.  No wonder why he returned.  He was probably sick of beating his kids at MLB 2K12.  “Dad, we don’t mind you playing our video games while we’re at school, but could you stop spitting tobacco onto our all-terrain robot?”  Please, blog, may I have some more?
