Me no happy Ryan Raburn doesn’t have 2nd base eligibility across all formats.  He missed starting 20 games at 2nd by two games.  Deuces are wild.  Or as they say in LA nightclubs, douches are wild.  If Leyland wasn’t out having a smoke, Raburn would’ve got those last two games.  Switch to Vapor Pro!  (Which reminds me… Recently, I went to visit a friend who runs one of these posh rehab clinics — He used to be so much fun!  Oh, well. — and everyone smokes.  Some smoke Vapor Pro so they can smoke indoors too.  Anyhoo, my friend just did a pick up of a new patient and I guess when they go in to grab an addict they have to clean their cupboards of any booze so when the addict returns home there’s no temptations.  Well, it just happened that my friend still had this no-longer-needed booze in his car.  So guess who went home with twenty bottles of wine, a few bottles of fancy schmancy vodka and some whiskey?  I got booze for days!)  In some formats, Raburn does have 2nd base eligibility.   In those leagues, I say this sleeper post is a no-brainer, my specialty.  Now maybe he’s dealing with the same issue as Alexei Ramirez and can’t take the cold weather, but Raburn’s 2nd half in 2009 was better than his 1st half and last year he made it a trend with 13 homers, .315 average in 251 ABs.  Same amount of 2nd half homers as Robby Cano, Adrian Gonzalez and Hunter Pence.  Raburn has the best average out of those three.  Cherry picking names, you say.  I say, yeah, so?  You start a blog and you cherry pick the names you want.  So what can we expect of Ryan Raburn next year and what makes him a 2011 fantasy baseball sleeper?

I think 15 homers is the absolute lowest homer total we’ll see.  I think 20 homers is more likely.  And 20+ homers is definitely a possibility.  He just needs to put a full season together.  Or better yet, the Tigers need to give him a full season of at-bats.  Stop with this 4 or 5 days a week shizz.  Put him out there for 500+ ABs.  If he gets those ABs, I’d give him a line of 70/21/80/.275/3.  It’s not scream at your neighbors, “I love Ryan Raburn!” type numbers, but, again, at 2nd base you can do much worse.  Oh, and there’s some upside on those numbers.  So, yeah, he’s a total MIF — Middle Infielder Flier.

Garantee joe from point pleasant comments on this. He’s a big rayburn guy.
Starting this week ur gonna start gettin alot tt of site traffic. No football, hello fantasy bseball. Hope ur ready!

  2. tHe sHiT says:

I loved me some Raburn last season, a huge reason why I ended up winning my main league. I hope he retains 2B eligibility in Yahoo leagues. If he does, I am drafting him everywhere. That being said, what do you think of last years hot sleeper pick at 2B, Gordon Beckham? Bounce-back year for him or you wouldnt touch him with a 10 foot pole? Have a great day sir! Btw, your booze story was hilarious! Santa definitely read your wish list this year!

  3. anarchy burger says:

i’m new to the site. i just heard about it at the end of last year. i’m really looking forward to your insight this year. keep up the great work.

  4. brett says:

For those unaware, Raburn is penciled in as the every day left fielder this year. It’s possible that he never gets second base eligibility in ESPN leagues.

The good news is that if (when) Guillen gets hurt, Raburn probably bats second, ahead of Ordonez, Cabrera, and Martinez and his run total jumps from 70 to 90.

  5. Tony says:

@grey, is that really your friends job? “rehabbing” people and stealing their booze? hahah….. how do i get into this profession?

Raburn is a nice little sleeper, im not sure if I read anywhere but do you see him gaining 2B eligibility this year or are the tiggers going to plunk him into the OF somewhere, probly 4 days a week lol.

  6. Tony says:

@brett: shoulda read your post huh brett!

  7. brett says:

Great minds, Tony. If he does get back to eligible it won’t be any time early in the season, unfortunately. The only way I see it happening is if their numerous other 2B options get hurt or demoted AND somebody like Boesch steps up and demands playing time in the outfield.

He might pick up enough odd appearances to get there eventually but that’s about all we can ask for unless something significant happens in spring training.

  8. Grey

    Grey says:

@mike from jersey: I’m ready, but it doesn’t usually pick up until mid-January.

@tHe sHiT: Raburn will have eligibility in Yahoo leagues for 2nd base. Beckham should be a decent value pick later in drafts. Definitely could bounce back.

@anarchy burger: Thanks for the kind words!

@brett: Yeah, I don’t see him getting there this year. He’s there in Yahoo leagues though.

@Tony: He has eligibility at 2nd already in Yahoo leagues. Won’t get there in ESPN leagues is my guess. Yeah, nice job, ha.

@Jake in Columbus: Could have some late round value, doubt he’s drafted in most 12 team leagues.

  9. joe says:

@brett : where do you see him pencilled in at LF? On espn’s depth chart they have Raburn as a back up in multiple spots and 3rd string 2B… They have Boesch slotted at LF, with Jackson and Magglio at CF and RF and Will Rhymes @ 2B?

Raburn was awesome for me in the 2nd half last year, I hope he can be a useful option in leagues this year.

Btw, assuming Raburn is buried in Yahoo as he is in MDC, where do you wait to take him in a 12 man league?

  11. carlos marmLOL says:

wait if you have all that booze I guess you won’t need any daiquiris for a while?

  12. Grey

    Grey says:

@Eddy: Raburn’s a 3rd to 4th outfielder. Or a nice sleeper 2nd baseman. Around the 130’s probably. Depends how bad you need him.

@carlos marmLOL: I do see what you did there. Why I oughta! Kidding.

  13. brett says:

@joe: Honestly, I don’t see him listed at LF anywhere, but I haven’t been looking until now. I can’t find it in writing anywhere but it’s more or less accepted in Tigers circles that he’s their starting left fielder. I mean, it’s conceivable that Boesch has a huge spring and takes the job but that’s likely what would have to happen.

(I’m curious now where ESPN get their information. Anyone?)

  14. Eddy says:

In addition, out of these three OF, who would you prefer for a possible 3rd round pick?

    Shin-soo Choo
    Justin Upton
    Jayson Werth
    Matt Holliday

  15. GopherDay says:

@Eddy: In my opinion, it goes Holliday, Upton, Werth, Choo Choo.

  16. Steve says:

@brett: CBS has him ranked at LF, but not 2B.

  17. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Eddy: All of them? Holliday.

  18. Terrence Mann says:

I foresee some nasty hangovers coming in the next week or two with all that wine, Grey.

As far as Raburn goes, I can see grabbing him around 130 if you’re that far into your draft and find yourself shallow on power. I’d rather have Hill, though.

  19. Grey

    Grey says:

@Terrence Mann: I’d rather have Hill too, but Raburn’s another option. *burp* Excuse me.

  20. Cole says:

Am I the only one who sees having a hard time taking Werth or Big League Choo in the 3rd round?

  21. Steve says:

@Grey: Where would you be drafting Hill?

  22. Steve says:

    Overall, I mean.

  23. SwaggerJackers says:

@Cole: I would much rather have Choo. With Grady and Santana coming back from injury, his numbers should easily match or exceed what he did last year. Oh, and in OBP leagues he’s even better.

  24. SwaggerJackers says:

I just got a Choo jersey for Christmas snitches!

  25. Steve says:

@SwaggerJackers: And a Choo jersey is not something to be sneezed at.

  26. BookieBob says:

Umm, dontcha mean “I think 15 homers is the Absolut lowest homer total we’ll see.”

And all that free booze? Sounds like a New Year’s eve party at Grey’s house!
So there we are at the party, 11 fantasy baseball doodes, drinking free wine and talking about corner infidels.

No women in sight. Isn’t it a wonder?

Terrence Mann strips naked and jumps in the pool. Oh crap, I think it’s time to go.

I see Leon Phelps – “Hey, it’s a lady! How you feeling tonight, lady?” Dammit Leon, it’s me, BookieBob!

Wait – there IS a lady – oh oh, it’s SwaggerJackers wife, and she’s pissed at all of us! She grabs SwaggerJackers by the face and hisses “It’s time to GO, snitch!”

Oh shit – everyone else heads for the exit, before any more wives come looking for us!

Except Terrance Mann – he’s says the water’s fine!

OK, so it’s a rough cut script. We’ll fill it in as we go.

The Hangover 3 – coming Summer of 2012!

  27. SwaggerJackers says:

I want to wear said Choo jersey to my auction draft but fear I will be tipping my hand too much. What do you guys think? Not to mention I drafted him last season AND it’s a NorthEast Ohio league. Might be a rare league where Choo is OVERvalued.

  28. Steve says:

He Who Is Not To Be Sneezed At or Werth?z

  29. A MIF can very easily become a MILF – Middle Infielder I’d like to, uh, Field. On my team.

    In bed.

I’m definitely going after Raburn, even though I feel like his ancestors should have invested in a Y.

  30. Eddy says:

Thanks for the input. I’m aiming for an OF in the 3rd round to supplement Cargo in the 13th round. I don’t think Holliday falls to me, so I think Upton would be next in line.

    Or maybe Felix.

  31. Grey

    Grey says:

@Eddy: Holliday, Upton, F-Her…. In that order.

  32. Tony says:

@Grey: mmmm nice on the yahoo eligibility. I play my one league thru yahoo.

@SwaggerJackers: You either 1) wear it UNDER the shirt you wear and then once you get CHOO you take it off or 2) have it in a bag with you and put it on immediately after you take choo.

(i have seen this done in a basketball league lol, andrei kirilenko of all players!)

  33. Tony says:

(i have seen this done in a basketball league lol, andrei kirilenko was the player taken…. of all players! LOL)

  34. Terrence Mann says:

@SwaggerJackers: Agree with you on liking Choo. His power numbers are creeping up. Choo had 16 HRs in 2009 going into the last week of the season and then hit 4 more. A lot of people held that against him going into last year. He was pretty solid with absolutely nobody hitting in front of him or protecting him in 2010.

  35. Greg says:

Are you always so crass and insensitive? Every now and
again I get routed here and am always annoyed by your sophomoric
sex-booze focus. This particular blog could be done in a single
sentence–keep an eye on Raburn–he just needs more playing time.
Helpful insight, but I had to wade through that other

@Greg: Funny how people know they will be offended, yet still go to a site and read the content anyway, then invest the time to complain about it. I am offended by your being offended.

  38. tHe sHiT says:

To all: If you can’t handle the content of the site, turn in your man card and don’t venture into the Big Boy Waters anymore. Stay in the kiddie pool and stop complaining!

  39. tHe sHiT says:

@Grey: We (your loyal Razzball readers) have your back. Don’t you change a damn thing about your site. Nothing! Btw, I am looking forward to your next post…

  40. @Tony: well spoken. think the rip-your-shirt-off jersey reveal is definitely the way to go there. better make sure it’s a dark shirt so people can’t see through, though.

i actually own a lincecum dodgers jersey. be fun to pull the same trick using that in a draft full of giants fans.

choo in 3 *is* a little early for my blood, though. i’m looking for him in 4 or 5, so realistically i’m not getting him very often even though i like him a lot.

  41. Steve says:

@wily mo: The Sneeze has just been taken at #36 in a 16-team slow mock I’m doing with, among others, big o.

  42. also, if the sophomoric sex-booze focus goes, i go

  43. @Steve: yeah, 36 is right around where i have him ranked, so really i’m only taking him there if everybody else is drafting exactly according to my sheet. which they usually aren’t, even though sometimes it feels like they are.

  44. Steve says:

Damn big o just scooped me right in my face. Took Cruz at #37.

    I took Werth at #38.

  45. Grey

    Grey says:

    @royce!: Ha!

@tHe sHiT: The next post will be up in a few. More sleepers….

    @wily mo: Ha… Noted.

@Steve: You do what you gotta.

  46. Steve says:

    @Grey: Dunn went at #35…

  47. Grey

    Grey says:

@Steve: I’d want them before Werth, so it makes sense.

  48. Steve says:

@Grey: I’ve taken a couple of OF in a row now, so I’m unlikely to get either of these two, but do you have Dread Pirate and Heyward ahead of Werth?

After taking Upton, I wanted a guy I could kind of rely on…

  49. Elijah says:

Upton worries me in the now tepid Az lineup. Hes a strikeout prone guy whos gonna have no protection behind him (that I see). And he’s kinda injury prone.

  50. pjtres says:

    ey yo…
can you rank these OF’s in a keeper?
    kemp, j-up, holliday, choo, mccutch

  51. @Elijah: yeah – i’m normally a massive upside whore, but this Upton Shoulder phenomenon is really scaring me. it seems like BJ’s been on this four-year odyssey of shoulder joint mystery, and now justin’s all “ow my shoulder”… i gotta go a different direction for a year.

this will of course therefore be the year justin breaks out for good and shoots to the top of 2012 drafts, but there’s nothing i can do about that.

I’m from Detroit and they said LF is Raburns JOB TO LOSE.Leyland doesnt like Boesch because he cant field and plus he had two homers in the second half and batted 184 after pitchers figured him out.Carlos Guillen is at 2b .
