Yesterday, Ronald Acuña Jr. (5-for-8, 5 runs, 5 RBIs) hit a leadoff homer in both games of the doubleheader, and became the youngest to homer in four straight games in the live-ball era.  Wistful sigh, member those good ol’ zombie dead-ball era stars?  Acuña now has 17 homers and 8 steals in 66 games.  Oh, I’m sorry, you my daddy?  It’s hard to understand how a 20-year-old can be my daddy, but I think you my daddy.  When that family that raised me told me to put mime makeup on every morning, I didn’t put it together, but now I know the one true thing in this world that only 23andMe and a gut feeling can tell me, Acuña is my daddy.  I’m going to start calling him Tildaddy.  Not as in ‘until I find my true daddy, you will be my daddy.’  Not Tildaddy as in what a teenager who works a cashier at a Waffle House makes his co-workers call him.  Tildaddy as in sloppily jamming tilde and daddy together.  You’re my Tildaddy!  People keep asking in the comments where I think Tildaddy (my fetch) will be drafted next year.  If you prorate his numbers out, he’d have 35 homers and 20 steals as a 20-year-old.  I’m sorry, you Machado’s Tildaddy too?  You Goldschmidt’s Tildaddy?  ARE YOU MIKE TROUT’S TILDADDY?!  He is at least a top 25 pick in 2019 and I might shock the world and shove Tildaddy in my top 15.  Un…Til…Daddy shows me different.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Touki Toussaint – 6 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 4 Ks as he was called up and sent back down.  Hey, I got Touki nookie like the rest of Youssaints, so I’m happy to report Toussaint will be back for the start on August 23rd, also vs. Miami.  As I tell my mop dressed like a horse, giddy up!  To read more on him, click over to my article yesterday and earn me a cool .00000000067th of a penny.

Mike Foltynewicz – 8 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 2.86.  Faultygnuwits handily, uh, handled the Mehlins as one should, and gets the Rockies at home next time out, which is more robot bliss on the Stream-o-Nator.

Arodys Vizcaino – Will resume throwing on Wednesday.  Then a rehab assignment starting on Saturday.  Then he’ll rejoin the Braves next Friday.  Then he’ll be injured again by the following Tuesday.  Hey, if you paid what I paid for this Magic Eight Ball, you’d use it too.

Sean Reid-Foley – 5 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks as he was called up.  Also, went over him yesterday too.  *pulls up pants, snorts* RF should remain with the big league team, unlike Touki.  Yacht Rock, “Touki come back…”

Devon Travis – 1-for-4 and his 9th homer, three homers in the last ten games, and hitting near-.300 in the last week and…You’re not getting excited, are you?  I hear ya.  But he could be heating up.

Josh Donaldson – Hopes to run the bases this week and return soon to the limpup.  Sorry, Freudian slip.

Danny Duffy – Hit the DL with left shoulder impingement.  Duffy was hoping to get to 200 IP this year for the first time in his career.  That explains why he’s been pitching since March with a shoulder injury and has a 4.90 ERA.  I’m not even joking.  He was removed from his final Cactus League start with a shoulder issue, and I told you to sell him almost immediately in April.  Somehow, the Royals have waited until August to DL him.

Robinson Chirinos – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 16th homer.  Uh-oh, Chirinos!

Ronald Guzman – 2-for-4 and his 13th homer, and 4th homer in the last three games.  Yo, Joey Gallo sneeze on this guy?  Guzman is a solid matchups play for now, but he doesn’t play every day.

Carlos Martinez – Will return as a reliever.  As I always say, if a guy can’t stay healthy pitching on a strict 5-day schedule, then pitch him randomly every few days while getting him up and down in the bullpen multiple times in a game to totally screw up his shoulder.

Miles Mikolas – 7 IP, 4 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.85.  Wasn’t his best game, but, ya know what, he is still the Cards pitcher to own this year.  How’s dem apples?  Red delicious!  Yeah, but people will still try to convince you to draft top starters.  Oh…*rappels down Mt. Kilimanjaro*…Kay.

Jose Martinez – 4-for-5, hitting .306.  Quick, get him out of the lineup!

Paul DeJong – 1-for-5 and his 13th homer, and his 4th homer this week.  Yes, grab him.  Yes, now.  But, damn, if only he didn’t get hurt earlier this year, he would’ve made good on my sleeper post on him.

Matt Carpenter – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 33rd homer.  Nailed it!

Bud Norris – 1/3 IP, 2 ER, ERA at 3.21, and his 4th blown save.  Then, Koda Glover (0 IP, 1 ER) came out for the Nats and lost the game.  The closepocalypse is real and it’s raining frogs on bullpens everywhere.  Podcaster Ralph and I go over bullpens and more on the podcast that’s coming later today, and so much changes in every game, I’m not sure it’s accurate still.  Norris is likely still the Cards closer, and the Nats’ closer is…Um…I guess some combination of Glover, Justin Miller, Greg Holland and pray that Sean Doolittle returns soon.

Tommy Milone – 4 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 11 baserunners, 1 K, ERA at 5.24.  I got major cackles at myself for starting this guy in a weekly league.  It’s NL-Only, but there’s really no excuse (but I will make an excuse on the other side of this parenthetical).  He does have a 2-start week, and Stream-o-Nator loves his next start, but, yeah, no excuses.

Bryce Harper – 1-for-4 and his 29th homer, hitting .236.  That home run is better than a hug from Bryce’s dad.  Watch Harper get to 40 homers, a .250 average and not really appear that bad going into next season.

Juan Soto – 1-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 15th homer, hitting .301.  Listen, I love you, Sexy Dr. Pepper, but today is about Tildaddy.

Sean Manaea – 7 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.44.  I’m between thinking of him as a legit fantasy starter and a MediOAKer.  Seemingly every time I get off my fence of hedges, he goes the other way.

Jed Lowrie – 3-for-5, 1 run, 4 RBIs, hitting .271.  The A’s are about to win the division from the Astros on the shoulders of Jed Lowrie and what is the world coming to?

CC Sabathia – Hit the DL with pretendonitis.  The Yankees are saying it’s knee inflammation, and you have to wonder if they’d really make up an injury if it means Sonny Gray will be put back in the rotation, but *insert Ron Burgundy ‘I don’t believe you’ GIF*

Luis Severino – 4 IP, 4 ER vs. the Mess!  I can’t believe the Yankees have not put Severino on the DL.  It’s going on a month of ineffective pitching.  If the Yankees want him for the playoffs, they better DL him soon.  By the way, the best is going to be when Severino or the Yanks say something like, “Oh, yeah, he’s had a dead arm for the last month, but we were hoping he’d pitch through it.”  That’s when I contract Hand To Forehead Disease.

Amed Rosario – 2-for-5 and a slam (5) and legs (13), hitting .236.  I go over Rosario in the video at the top of this post.  I do all the voices like a regular Mel Blanc.

Michael Conforto – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 16th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games.  If he’s out there in your league, we have a CODE RED: SCHMOTATO.

Todd Frazier – 2-for-5 and his 11th homer.  Also, in this game, Jose Bautista (1-for-5, 2 RBIs) hit his 9th homer.  This also means the Mets have officially won the 2014 All-Star Game.

Brandon Nimmo – 2-for-3, 2 runs and his 15th homer, hitting .249.  It’s hard to tell if the Mets had a good game (don’t laugh), or individual players are hot.

Jacob deGrom – 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 12 Ks, ERA at 1.81.  I’m rooting so hard for deGrom to win the Cy Young with under ten wins so old sportswriters’ heads can explode.  Actually, they won’t vote for him and my head will explode.  Damn, the fate of my head is riding on deGrom’s Cy Young.

Robert Gsellman – 1 IP, 0 ER and the save as Seth Lugo entered the 8th and surrendered two runs.  “Hey, Shruggy the Emoji, what do we think of the Mets’ bullpen shituation?”  Shruggy shrugs.  My guess is the Mess go to Lugo next to keep fantasy baseballers (<–my mom’s term!) on their toes, but I have no idea.

Jose Ramirez – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 35th homer, hitting .301.  With 44 games left of the season, Jo-Ram has the Indians’ first ever 35 homer/25 steal season.  I ranked him the highest out of any ‘pert in the preseason.  You’re welcome.

Michael Brantley – 3-for-6, 2 runs, 1 RBI, hitting .300.  Take or leave Yonder Alonso, but how does anyone pitch to the top of the Indians’ lineup when the bottom is sitting there like a lump of shizz.

Scooter Gennett – 1-for-4 and his 18th homer, hitting .306.  I told you he didn’t retire after the All-Star Game!  He just stopped hitting until yesterday.

Curt Casali – 1-for-1 and his 3rd homer.  If Votto needs to miss time, Casali could see playing time at 1B, which is only interesting in NL-Only leagues or leagues where you need at least one guy who sounds like the chorus of a Talking Heads song.  Psycho killer…Curt Casali!

Kenley Jansen – Resumed throwing off the mound.  That was a quick bounce back from a heartbeat issue.  He is built Chevrolet tough!  No idea what this means for his timetable, but it might be too soon to abandon hope for him returning this season.

Clayton Kershaw – 8 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.47 vs. Madison Bumgarner – 6 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.71.  This matchup was billed, “Used to be the best vs. Used to be the 2nd best,” then the billing was changed at the last minute to, “Still great, but not the best vs. Still solid, but far from the best.”

Scott Alexander – 2/3 IP, 3 ER and the massive blown save, ERA up to 3.88.  Scott Alexander:  Cuddle Boy.  Up next in the Dodgers’ bullpen… Oh, I see why they’re called Dodgers, because I say up next, and everyone dodges my glances.  I’d guess Kenta Maeda, Pedro Baez or even Stripling will get next save opportunity.

Wil Myers – 0-for-3 as he was activated from the DL.  Myers said, “It feels good–Shoot, I think I might’ve strained my oblique going from the noun to the verb too fast in that sentence.”

Eric Hosmer – 1-for-1, 2 RBIs and his 11th homer.  “Hey, we need to make room on the raft and that body rolled up in carpet is starting to smell–Wait!  Hosmer is breathing!”  The best on Hosmer’s sign of life, it came on a pinch-hit homer, so there might’ve been a chance you didn’t even start him if you had other options.  Classic, Hosmer, classic.

Freddy Galvis – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 9th homer, and, like, his 39th homer in the last week.  Yesterday, I said hot schmotato.  Today, I say, hey, hey.

Andrew Heaney – 7 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.88.  Yeah, well, okay, but it was the Padres.  Stream-o-Nator does enjoy his next start too, though.

Mike Trout – Away from the team due to a family matter, and may not make it back right when his DL stint is over on Thursday.  If you need a sixth for a prayer hexagon, I’m here for you.

Shohei Ohtani – Threw a 33-pitch bullpen session yesterday at 70% effort.  Or a 100% Hanley.

Taylor Ward – Called up by the Angels.  The Sciosciapath suffers from a rare Scioscia-logical condition that stops him from playing offensive-minded catchers, but, thankfully, Ward has moved to 3rd base, so, as long as The Sciosciapath doesn’t see his fantasy eligibility, we might be okay.  Ward was on Prospector Ralph’s top 500 fantasy baseball prospects.  A tad higher than Danny Jansen, for what it’s Werth.  The Prospect-o-Nator has Ward down for fairly yawnstipating numbers, but he did have 8/10/.352 in 60 Triple-A games.  Worth a shot as long as Ward isn’t too hard on Jerry Blevins as The Bleever.

Adam Engel – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 4th homer, and 2nd homer in the last two games.  Could be a super light hitting schmotato, and/or working on trying to get Rotowear to do a Launch Engel t-shirt. (Use promo code SAGNOF)

Omar Narvaez – 1-for-3 and his 5th homer.  Never Nefarious Narvaez because he means well!

Nicholas Castellanos – 5-for-5, 2 runs, 5 RBIs and his 17th homer, hitting .291.  The Greek God of Hard Contact has the highest wOPA in the majors, which stands for ‘with Opa!’

    Grey!!!!

Great write-up, somehow couldn’t wait for this one more so than others. Why?

    a. In a 5X5 RCL where I need W and Ks and to maintain 2nd in ERA and WHIP, would you start Fiers tonight? He’s at home versus Seattle (Paxton).

    b. Just signed up Bote, probably too late he’ll go cold like the pizza I ordered last week. So at MI, start 1 for tonight.

    1. Bote at home versus Milwaukee (Chacin)
    2. Aledmys at KC (Filmyer)

I am leaning Bote because he is slightly hotter, Aledmys has fizzled for about 5 days or so with the homer in-between.

    c. OF question. Start 1 of the following.

    1. Trumbomb at home versus the Mess (Vargas)
    2. Nick Williams at home versus Boston (Porcello)

I am leaning Trumbo but his injury leaves me in doubt. Most likely will be a game-day decision but subconsciously I would rather Porcello pitches well for y’all which would mean that I hope that Williams does poorly which means I hope Trumbo can play.

    d. Mark Twain quote of the day for August 14

It is good to obey all the rules when you are young, so you’ll have the strength to break them when you’re old.

Finished ep 3 last night. So I am not sure about this show. I sense a rather typical story of (possible SPOILERS in case anyone watches the Sinner) her getting abducted back when and then drugged up and abused for months before being dropped off and then taken to rehab. She had terrible things done to her and those memories get triggered bla bla by the music. The next several episodes will be fleshing out what happened to her while she was in there.

BUT WAIT that is too predictable. So they will reshape the story each episode to throw us off and down a new narrative. Which will be dark and probably mildly supernatural and completely unpredictable at this time in the story. I predict the parents will be pulled more into the story. And of course the blond woman in her memories.

This is sounding more and more like The Killing. Yes it is entertaining but definitely drama-baity and you need to tell me whether to bother continuing or not. I find these plots insult our intelligence by creating these false leads. Don’t know why it bothers me so much.

Sp Severino, SP Happ, SP Snell, SP Seranthony, SP Jordan Hicks, P Hader, P Box, P Cody Allen, RP Yates, RP Osuna, B Clevinger, B Will Smith, B Buehler, B Flaherty.

I’m 2 saves out of gaining 2 points and in a dog fight for holds so Hicks who would probably be my cut is tough. I’m rotating relievers based on match up. I need to cut a player with Devers being active on my dl. My plan is to move Freeman for Kluber so Devers would be put into my starting lineup. This trade helps my pitching I am in first in every hitting category and I currently have Freeman under contract for next year at 28 and if I move him I can keep Acuna at 17 for at least 2 years.

Just to piggy back onto what you said above (scroll up) on Ramirez. He’s now passed Trout for WAR in 2018. It used to be Trout and Ramirez at 7.6, then Betts at 7.0 (that was before his cycle in a losing effort, so he’s probably higher) and then Lindor at 6.8. Ramirez is having an epic season, not just a top 10 season. My point? You da man, don’t abbreviate it!

In a 18 team H2H that scores walks, Bour to the Phillies was terrible.

    Grey,

Need help in a roster crunch. 12 team daily roto league 6×6 with ops and holds the extra categories. We can keep 5 at a 260 budget.

    Current roster:
C Open 1b Freeman, 2b Albies, SS Baez, 3b Machado, CI Hoskins, MI Torres, OF Benitendi, Marte, Bellinger, Cain, Acuna, Util K Calhoun, DL Devers, DL Ramos
SP Severino, SP Snell, SP Clevinger, SP Seranthony, SP Jordan Hicks, RP Hader, RP Box, RP Cody Allen, P Osuna, P Yates, B Will Smith, B JA Happ, B Buehler, B Flaherty DL Darvish

In a dog fight for first I am 2 saves out from gaining 2 points so I’ve been playing closers on match ups. Holds is also close which is why Hicks and his SP eligibility are huge. The reason I need to cut a player is because my roster is invalid with Devers on my DL and I want to trade Freeman for Kluber, so I would need divers to fill his spot in my hitters. I am currently in first in all hitting categories and moving Freeman who is in his last year of contract at 28 next year would open up a spot for either Acuna at 17 or Snell at 3 for at least 2 years. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    • Brett says:

@Brett: if you had to cut 2 guys now with Ramos back who would you cut? Or would you keep my team as is with Ramos and devers on the dL and wait and see if anyone gets hurt before I do any trading?

Also I could keep freeman all year and break his contact if I can’t move in the off-season however it would cost me $14 dollars at the draft. Is it worth holding him at that cost to keep Acuna or snell?

    Hey, Grey, Hey,

    Two questions for you:

    1) Who is the better streamer tomorrow: Gausman v. MIA ($16.3) or Biebs @CIN ($16.7). I’m thinking Gaus, right? (And granted that the $s will change when SoN gets rerun)

    2) Is it annoying that assholes like me post SoN values in the free comments section here so your freeloading Razzreaders can see them, too?

@sportivetricks: Gausman , have you seen the “major league lineup” Miami those out there? I was watching the Touki game y’day afternoon and I was like “who the eff are these guys?”

        (link)

@Grey: Seems you’re higher on Ryu than many other industry folk… Are health and Dodgers DL games the reason others are fading him? Surprised they moved Maeda and Stripling to the pen.

Ryu intrigues me, but I stocked up on closers at the trade deadline to try to gain some points in the saves category.. I’ve got Kimbrel, Will Smith ($5, $10, $13), Shane Greene($5, $10, $13), Leclerc ($5, $10, $13), Mychal Givens ($5, $10, $13), Hector Rondon ($5, $10, $13) for relievers and Verlander, Folty ($5, $10, $13), Godley, ($10, $13, $16) Heaney ($5, $10, $13), Pivetta,($5, $10, $13) JA Happ ($7, $11, $14) for starters. I’ve moved up to 4th in saves. I’ll pass 3rd place team… it’s possible to catch 2nd but not a given. I’m gaining quickly though. I’m solidly 1st or 2nd in WHIP and 2nd/3rd in ERA but it’s pretty close 2nd to 5th. Strikeouts I’m 8th but less than 100 Ks out of 5th and gaining. 2nd in wins. Drop a reliever for Ryu ($1, $6, $9)? 11 moves left on the year.

It’s a keeper league so I’ve listed their salaries for this year, next year and year after. No salary listed if they’re not keepable or have very high salary. Rondon probably the drop? Tough call.

    (link)

Hi Grey. Lovely verses. I share your love of Acuña, but there’s no need to pit him against Soto. My answer this year has been to roster both. They are both paying fine dividends now. I recommend owning both while it’s still possible, however, if you rank him in the top 25 that may be difficult. Can we rethink this?

I feel the hype for both building as we speak and its making me become slightly nauseous.

      • Dave D, Mayor of Sotoacuña says:
        (link)

Please wear protection if consummation ensues. Your love child with the tildé might mess with the entire human gene pool and leads us to the apocalypse a bit too early.

And while he gets on base like a young left handed Manny Ramirez, Soto is pretty ragged on the bases. He looked horrible getting picked off first the other day with nobody out. No love lost though. Acuña leads off followed by Soto. No need for subversion until we have them both in the top 8 a la Trout/Harper. Then the duels may truly break out on the Razzball message boards.

          Grey says:

DL: Yoenis (for life), Encarnacion, Trout, Solarte, Dozier(i would assume after today’s news), Doolittle, Devenski, Duffy (worthless anyways).

My roster: Salvador, Yonder, Simmons, Jo-Ma, J. Harrison, Piscotty (ice cold, thanks for recommendation :)), Villenuva, Aaron Hicks, Ohtani –Looks like a waiver wire scrubs team.

SP- Lester (dumpster fire), Arrieta (no comment), EFFFFlin, Folty Schizo, Lucchesi, Chase Anderson (not 2017 version) and Freddy Peralta. M. Barnes, Knebel, Ottavino, S. Greene.

I have Tatis Jr, Bichette and Forrest Whitley as best prospects.
I need a bat and SP at minimum to have a shot at the crown.

Last place team wants to trade Aguilar and Buehler for Tatis, Yonder and F. Whitley. I don’t like that at all. Is that fair?

What kind of trade value should I be asking for 3 minor leaguers? Hate to trade them but I need something.

    Appreciate the advice!

What’s good Grey? On vacation for a couple of days and we got a VRBO surprisingly equipped with an old school sit-down arcade game out in the garage. It has over 60 games to choose from from the 80’s. Needless to say the beer was flowing like wine and I stayed up too late channeling a young ‘poop’s’ mastery of Mrs. PacMan, 1942, Gallaga, and Gunsmoke. What was your arcade game of choice from yesteryear?

Also…what are your thoughts on Lourdes Gurriel Jr.? I got middle-infield issues (e.g., cycling between Crawford and Duffy over the last couple of weeks) and was thinking about picking him up and throwing on the DL.

What do you think is Strickland’s role once he returns this weekend to San Francisco?

    Happy Tuesday!

Trade deadline day. In my dynasty league (both OBP and BA are separate batting categories), I am trying to repeat. I can trade Mookie Betts for JT Realmuto, Whit Merrifield, and Clayton Kershaw. I could alternatively trade Mookie for Realmuto, Merrifield, and Castellanos.

    My catching is poor (Kiner-Falefa).

Merrifield would slot into the outfield with Pollack, and a bunch of lower tier guys including Belt, Teoscar, Kepler, Tony Kemp, Kiermier, and Schebler, while simultaneously backing up my infield of Votto/Baez/Andrus/Suarez. Castellanos would also move into outfield and loses his 3B eligibility next year if I took him instead of Kershaw.

Kershaw would beef up a SP group including Kluber, Carrasco, Jon Gray, Musgrove, Luccessi, and Stroman.

Should I swing this? If so, for which three players?

I would miss having Mookie for the next ten years, but these seem like G-dfather offers I should consider. Thanks in advance for your help.

I sorta want to move Freeman’s contract which is still a great price for a top 15 player, but don’t want to take a hit in the standings as I’m 2 points out of first. Why? Did the Astros say he’s not returning?

      • Favio Vasquez says:
        (link)

        They dont have a timetable;

” Altuve (knee) was unable to resume running over the weekend, Christian Boutwell of MLB.com reports. Altuve was hoping to test his ability to run on the field over the weekend, but continued discomfort in his right knee limited the second baseman to rehab exercises inside the team’s clubhouse. It’s still unclear when the reigning AL MVP will be cleared to resume on-field work, leaving his return date up in the air. Altuve has been sidelined since July 25.”

If im the Astros what would be the rush in bringing him back until just before the post season to get him in rhythm for the playoffs.

    OF (3) rosario, puig, yelich
    util (2) grichuk, whit (2B/1B/OF)
    BN beckham (2B/3B/SS), n-will

SP: borucki, heaney, rodon, bieber, V2, pivetta,
RP: (room for 4, 3 SP slots, so gsellman/romo go in those): rondon, greene, leclerc, steck, romo, gsellman
    DL darvish, wacha

want more SP innings on this roster. this is the streamer list: desclafani, gant, M2 (CUBS), shields, hellickson, j-zimm, tropeano, gallardo, gomber, chen (so not a good list)

to obtain more should i turn borucki into a streamer (he was BN’d last time out vs BOS, but his FIP too damn good to drop) or drop a closer, and which one (gsellman maybe as he splits with lugo) if that.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Those streamers look awful, but I guess Gsellman is drop — makes little sense to drop an SP for an SP if you need IP

Following up.on the podcast…. Ward or Jansen worth taking a chance over gattis in the Catcher spot? I’d have to drop gattis… Weekly lock in leagues.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Meh, I’d start Gattis and let him go

      • johnnyhobbes says:
        (link)

@Grey: could you elaborate on “let him go” do you mean stick with him and see how he does?

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

I mean let Gattis play, it’s a catcher slot, those guys aren’t that much better right now…Maybe if they do something

          • johnnyhobbes says:
            (link)

@Grey: thanks grey. Also, man up! And watch your boy pitch against the red sox

  86. Crime Dog says:

In a keeper, so I can trade with non playoff teams. Would you rather trade Bauer for Carrasco or Syndergaard for ROS playoff run? Trade analyzer likes Carrasco by a few dollas.

    • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:
      (link)

@Crime Dog: man that’s close. might want to literally look at both’s matchups ROS, which is probably somewhat doable.

      • Criminology Dogo says:
        (link)

@Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo: Good call…might’ve just made up my mind. I start playing after my bye on 8/27 and Cookie and the Indians have a cake schedule. At home against twins, rays, royals and away against blue jays over those 2 weeks.

NL only 10 teamer h2h with QS over wins, got ryu back tomorrow. also still have stripling (1st game back was COL game, which he kicked ass in but now demoted to bullpen, albeit he’d still have value IF anybody else got hurt, and they surely could). have these need to drop 2 out of them: stripling, suarez (he’s been the worst of these for a while now), gant, gomber, wheeler, miley, guerra, d-rod, weaver.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Suarez, Miley

So Dozier gets a bad EKG and he’s in batting leadoff tonight according to league lineup. Color me confused

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      So confusing

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

@Turd Wendell: bad EKG’s don’t necessarily mean anything, sometimes they are actually mechanical errors. also maybe he was in some sort of very high stress situation or on drugs at the time, which could schew the results. likely he just had another one and it looked just fine. also, even less likely but possible, some “medical” technician from the mess was involved in this, and simply didn’t understand how to properly read an EKG.

  89. The Harrow says:
    (link)

looky looky, now we have yet another guy who scosiapath will bench for no reason, ward. for super deep leagues i recently stashed this guy, now we get to see how much fun we can have waiting till after the early games lock to see how often he gets benched for no reason.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Yeah, he’ll be on the bench by tomorrow

      • The Harrow says:

@Grey: we can finally find a counterexample though, fletcher, he was playing almost everyday even before kinsler was shipped off.

    Hello Grey,
I know this is old news, but I need to mention as a cathartic release – Bauer has a stress fracture? He is the best SP I have on both of my teams. I am totally f’d! That makes Stras, Darvish, Ray (yeah, he just suks!) and now Bauer. WTF!!!!! Stras and Darvish will just about be ready to pitch when my team is eliminated. Thanks f’n f-Holes!

No way I hold onto that 6th spot now in our league.

Ok, that felt good. Thanks much Grey. Go Little Nicky Pivetta!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I can’t even look at Pivetta

  91. And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:
    (link)

the LAD SP returns causing some droppage. 14 team h2h with QS’s. have all of these, wood already was in active slot, ryu tomorrow is back. gotta drop 1: bieber/eovaldi/wheeler/V2/pivetta/wood/ryu/heaney/morton. i thought this was close between bieber/eovaldi, but their FIPs don’t have it so close.
    bieber (3.02 vs 4.24 ERA)
    eovaldi (4.07 to 3.74)
plus eovaldi is in an awful park and division.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Can lose Eovaldi

  92. And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:
    (link)

man, the worse quintana does, and the more blech ad russ is/has been (and this’ll ONLY get worse and worse the better gleyber and eloy do in MLB) the more fun it is to imagine just how mad (and how many fingers they have to use to attempt to count them) CUBS fans will be when they start to try to count how many more possible championships they could’ve had to NOT OVERVALUE rentals or mediocre MLB-level SP over SUPERSTARS WITH COST CONTROLLED CONTRACTS. “but but but theo’s well known as a genius!” they’ll all yell before they notice their fingers have probably gotten up to at least 3-4.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Yeah, every narrative that so and so is a genius falls apart on inspection

  93. Fred Garvin MP says:

So Pivetta navigates the 1-7 of the Red Sox order with relative ease, but Sandy Leon and Rick Porcello get to him for 2 XBH’s and a run. Uh, ok.

@Grey: Pivetta! It’s not a complete game shutout but 6 innings of 4 baserunners 1 ER and 6Ks… I’ll take my chips and cash!

              Grey says:

              Totally! I can’t believe it

    • And Now the Jon Lovitz Dancers! says:
      (link)

@Fred Garvin MP: i have pivetta in every league possible (last count that’s 7) i can handle 1 ER in 4 vs BOS, but in a 30 teamer i NEED them leon XBH’s. i refuse to bid anything on catcher ever over league min and end up with scraps in FA. currently have leon/mathis.

      Albies over Harper

  96. dubjay says:

    Hey Grey,
Trying to decide what to do with Maeda. Waiting to see who they stick in the closer slot but I am pretty loaded there already with Chapman, Treinen, Boxberger and W.Smith. Ryu is available and tempting. Would you hold Maeda to see what happens in the 9th or drop him for Ryu.

Also I have been struggling with 1b all season. Have been rotating Desmond and Olson in and out of there all season. I have Sano still in my NA slot so would have to drop someone to activate him. Do you think it is worth it to drop either Desmond or Olson to activate him and slot him in at 1B? Other potential drops include Ozuna, and the aforementioned Maeda. Trumbo is also available .

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I’d wait to see what happens in the 9th, Sano hasn’t pushed the hand to drop one of those other guys yet

My offense is scuffling right now in a 12 team H2H. Pitching is hanging in there. My issue is that I have $6 left with playoffs starting in two weeks. I feel I need to save $ for the hot bat and the good streamer when it’s playoff time.

Or is Dejong a must-add for $1 over Sano?

    C – Yadi
    1B – Rizzo
    2B – Whit
    3B – Sano
    SS – Bregman
    OF – Benitendi, Calhoun, Blackmon
    Util – Shaw
    Bench – Desmond

What’s good Grey? I have a GREAT update on our VRBO situation (e.g., being forced to stay inside because of a local fire, staying in a former house of a celebrity, and setting records on numerous arcade games, etc.), but our waiver auction deadline is in an hour.

My current closing situation is Treinen, Rondon, Hand, Allen, and LeClerc. I really only want four for the playoffs so I can stream the other spot. Two questions for you…(1) how do you rank that quintuplet ROS; and (2) do I pick up Strickland off waivers and cut two of those guys?

My thought is Treinen, Hand, LeClerc, and Strickland. Crazy?
