Willie Calhoun vs. Gleyber Torres. Nick Senzel vs. Willie Calhoun. Willie Calhoun vs. Michael Kopech. These are just a few of the Willie Calhoun centric conversations Ralph Lifshitz and I engaged in during this week’s prospect podcast. We also got to a few of the other guys in our 2017 end-of-season top 20 prospect rankings, debating how high Scott Kingery’s upside is, is Ryan McMahon worthy of a top 20 ranking, and if Royce Lewis could be the next Victor Robles. We discuss everybody from Ronald Acuna, Vlad Guerrero Jr., and Eloy Jimenez, to Taylor Trammell, Juan Soto, and Alex Reyes. In a dynasty league who do you like more Willie Calhoun or nomar Mazara?
@Miketron: I’m actually in the middle of writing a dynasty ranking that includes both of them, and they are literally ranked next to each other right now. I have Mazara first at the moment. If you are going by trade value, I think Mazara’s perceived value is definitely higher than Calhoun’s.
@Halp: just though of Mazara during your Willie convo. I would think Willie would have a higher trade value due to shiney new toy syndrome and mazaras rather uninteresting year.
@Miketron: I think most owners still go by mainstream prospect sites when evaluating trades, and Willie just never got the hype that Mazara got. And Mazara is younger than him too. It’s definitely a case by case basis though where different owners can value them differently. I have them neck and neck. Their values are basically even in my book.
Rough night for the good guys Halp. #YankeeRalph
@Yankee Ralph: haha … it’s going to be some game tonight
@Halp: 28 Rings bay-b!!! Let’s go get some garlic knots!
@Yankee Ralph: haha, is that your New Yorker impression?
@Halp: Yes, I imagine as a Yankees fan, I need to count rings and always suggest cheese balls and garlic knots as the first form of nutrition.
@Yankee Ralph: not so sure about the cheese balls, but the definitely the garlic knots and ring counting
@Halp: I think cheese balls are for the summer on the boardwalks of the shore.
@Yankee Ralph: Are we talking those things covered in nuts you get over Christmas?
