The album I released called Father’s Day has an intro as its first song, here it is, “This is dedicated to all those dads out there that stood by their responsibilities and raised your seed.  Unless you would’ve been a terrible father, then it’s better if you shirked your responsibilities and hightailed it out of there.  Something that’s rarely mentioned about absentee fathers, if you would’ve been a crap father, then it’s best if you weren’t around.  The best thing some fathers could give their kids is not being there.  This is dedicated to all the fathers that left.  This is for all the dads that would’ve been so bads.  All the pops that drank nonstops.  You’re often forgotten, but we appreciate your fatherhood was misbegotten”  Any hoo!  Yesterday, Julio Teheran went 6 IP, 0 ER, 0 hits, 3 walks, 11 Ks, lowering his ERA to 3.97, as he was activated from the DL.  He didn’t go on a rehab assignment.  Well, technically, he didn’t but he returned to face the Padres, so same diff.  Teheran’s peripherals are a mess like the father who abandoned us who we now appreciate, so Teheran was money on Sunday, but don’t expect child support (this is so hashtag woke).  Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Mike Foltynewicz – Hit the DL for his tricepasaurus. He’s eligible to return next Saturday, which is what he will do because I’m relying on him.  I am a fantasy parasite.  Feed me!

Carlos Carrasco – Hit the DL with an elbow contusion.  On Saturday, he got roughed up early (1 1/3 IP, 4 ER), then removed after Joe Mauer shot one back into Carrasco’s arm.  Was especially devastating for Carrasco because he just watched Vaxxed.

Shane Bieber – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 11 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.97, as he was recalled.  Depending on when Carrasco returns, Bieber could stay in the rotation for a few more turns.  Here’s my previous Shane Bieber fantasy.  It was written on a bathroom wall in horseradish sauce at a Arby’s.  At least I hope that was horsey sauce.

Jake Odorizzi – 5 IP, 4 ER, 10 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.38.  As he’s been his entire career, he’s still great in home games.  Unfortunately, his home is in Tampa.

Sean Manaea – 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.56.  I’ve been way off Manaea recently, but the Stream-o-Nator loves his next start, and I could see going back in on him.

Marcus Semien – 1-for-5 and his 7th homer, and 2nd homer in two days.  Semien’s starting to heat up, and not like that time you stood too close to the microwave.

Andrew Heaney – 8 IP, 3 ER, 4 baserunners, 8 Ks, ERA at 3.64.  Heaney’s ERA on waivers is 1.75; his ERA on your team is 7.50.  How do I know?  Oh, I just do.

Blake Parker – 1/3 IP, 2 ER, and the blown save, ERA at 3.18.  I get Parker didn’t start the inning off in All-Star fashion, but if he’s your closer, at least give him a chance to right the ship.  The 2nd run was inherited because one game The Sciosciapath brings Parker into the 7th and then this game it’s the ninth and he’s pulled after three batters.

Luis Castillo – 5 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 5.77.  Not to get all Biblical and illuminati on you, but his name anagrams to:  All I Is, Locust.  We would’ve made an Exodus sooner on him if we were Dan Brown.

Scott Schebler – 1-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 9th homer, hitting .281.  I like Schebler more than most ‘perts, but him batting leadoff and Winker not even in the lineup is so straight goofy — stroofy?

Joe Musgrove – 4 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 3.68.  Catatonic Self, “Joe MusgroveJoe Musgrove…Joe Must go…”  Thank you, Catatonic Self.   Kidding aside, Musgrove’s peripherals aren’t terrible, and he’s about a 3.75 ERA pitcher so this isn’t that surprising.  On a related note, I feel like the Reds have done more damage against my teams than any other team, but the stats don’t exactly back that up.  The Reds are not supposed to be very good.

Gregory Polanco – 3-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer, and his first hit since April 12th.  Not exactly, but feels that way.

Colin Moran – 1-for-4 and his 7th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games.  Hot schmotato alert!

Brandon Belt – 1-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer, as he was activated from the DL on Saturday.  Good to see him back, assuming it’s him and not his Freaks and Geeks doppelgänger.

Evan Longoria – Out for 6-8 weeks as he will undergo hand surgery.  This could severely hinder Longoria’s aspirations of playing Thing in the next remake of The Addams Family.

Patrick Corbin – 6 IP, 5 ER, ERA up to 3.48.  Eff you, Regression Fairies.

Clay Buchholz – 5 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 2.94.  Yeah, but it was in the humidor vs. the Mets, which brings me back to, dubya tee eff, Patrick Corbin?!

Jeurys Familia – 1 IP, 1 ER as he was activated on Sunday, and used in the 8th.  Paul Lo Duca said he’s happy to see Familia back, he’s the heart and soul of the Mets.  Then everyone associated with the Mets said, “Who gives an eff what Lo Duca thinks?”  Familia will likely be used in the ninth more times than not, but, well, who really knows what goes on with bullpens?

Brandon Nimmo – 3-for-5, 2 runs and his 10th homer, hitting .274, and 2nd homer in four games.  One of the few bright spots on the Mets, but, when your team goes out and gets Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce on purpose, the bar for bright spots isn’t high.

Steven Matz – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.31.  Yes, the entire Mets organization’s womb is polluted, but Matz’s ERA is better than Corbin, to name just one guy whose name is stuck in my craw.

Trevor Richards – 3 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 5.45.  You in time lapse, “I don’t know much about this Richards guy, but he’s got two solid starts this week….Yes, he pitched great in his first start of the week, now just one more start to go and it’s against the Orioles…I AM JOHN HURT IN ALIEN AND MY ULCER IS BURSTING OUT OF MY STOMACH!!!”

Justin Bour – 2-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 11th and 12th homer, hitting .240.  *looking at Carlos Santana’s stats vs. Justin Bour*  I think I need to sit down.  *sees I’m sitting in a chair with Carlos Santana’s face*  Maybe I stand.  *sees Carlos Santana standing in the corner of the room like the mom in Hereditary*  AHH!!!  If you haven’t see Hereditary yet, you should go see it.   I slept with the lights on last night.  Shizz was scary AF.

Jace Peterson – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 1st homer, hitting .196.  Fun fact!  He’s been moved so many times Jace Peterson doesn’t even know what team he plays for anymore.

Wade LeBlanc – 7 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.63.  This start came against the Sawx.  Zoinks!  We need to dig in on him *looks at his player page*  Well, that’s a joke.  His fastball is down to 86 MPH, he is literally throwing all the same pitches, but his BABIP is .266 and his LOB% is 88%.  I mean, c’mon, I wouldn’t even let LeBlanc pitch if I had a capable chimpanzee.

Jackie Bradley Jr. – 1-for-3 and his 4th homer, hitting .080 in the last week.  Which has been a hot week for him.

Rafael Devers – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 11th homer, hitting .239.  He’s been showing more signs of life recently, multiple hits in three of his last four games, two homers in the last week.  For Cubs fans reading, Rafael’s gone from Stinker to Devers to Chance of something.

Eduardo Rodriguez – 6 IP, 2 ER, 7 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 3.59.  In the last ten starts, he’s gone deeper than six innings once, but he hasn’t given up more than three runs since May 5th, when he gave up five, but it was Cinco de Mayo, so, I mean, c’mon, give him that.

Teoscar Hernandez – 3-for-4 and his 12th homer, hitting .268.  He’s homered me into submission.  I no longer even consider dropping him because he just homers again in a few games.  You win, Teoscar.  *tosses jersey, Teoscar opens it to see, “Fantasy Master Lothario, Real Squad Members Don’t Abbreviate.”*  Welcome to the squad, Teoscar.

Randal Grichuk – 3-for-3, 4 RBIs and a double slam (6, 7) and legs (2), hitting .196.  He’s a lousy one, Mr. Grichuk, but maybe Mr. Grichuk is a hot schmotato.

Yangervis Solarte – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 15th homer, and 3rd homer in three games.  Look at your 2nd baseman, now look at what Yangervis is doing.  Oopsie.

Michael Taylor – 3-for-4, 2 runs and 4 steals (18, 19, 20, 21).  He’s doing what you wanted from Billy Hamilton — not playing every day, not hitting much of anything, stealing literally everything in sight.

Carlos Martinez – 5 IP, 3 ER, 13 baserunners (6 BBs), 5 Ks, ERA at 2.73.  I like how what appears obvious to the entire world is being sloughed off like it’s nothing to the Cardinals.  The entire world, “Um, C-Mart doesn’t seem right because, ya know, he’s throwing 98% of pitches outside the strike zone since he returned from the DL.”  The Cardinals, “C-Mart looked pretty good on Saturday.”

Zach Eflin – 5 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 3.43.  Was absolutely cruising through the Brewers’ lineup, but pulled from the game after 73 pitches, because Gabe Kapler hit the bowl of green M&M’s too hard.

Maikel Franco – 2-for-3, 4 RBIs and his 9th homer, hitting .247.  I just had a wild idea.  Maikel gets traded to the Giants for Strickland, so Strickland can close games for the Phils, then Strickland is used in the 4th inning, because Kapler is trying to shorten the games, but really it just makes them longer because then he has no one for the 7th, 8th or 9th, after using Dominguez in the 5th and 6th.  Oh, but we can call him, Maikel Francisco.

Odubel Herrera – 3-for-4, 3 runs and his 9th homer, and 2nd homer this weekend.  ODB is hot like Mariah!

Rhys Hoskins – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games, and 3rd in four games.  Praise Rhyus!

Eric Thames – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 8th and 9th homer, hitting .244.  Hard to get crazy excited about Thames or Aguilar (also homered, his 13th), because the Brewers are crowded at 1B and left field, but Thames is the type to hit a bunch of homers in a short period of time.

Chase Anderson – 5 1/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 4.54.  From start to start, he went from fire emoji to fire-hot diarrhea.

Blaine Hardy – 5 1/3 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.32.  He was in Friday’s Buy as a guy to grab, due to the Stream-o-Nator, and that remains.

Nicholas Castellanos – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer, and his 3rd homer in the last two days.  I mailed a letter to P.O. Box Detroit Tigers, addressed to Nick(holas) Castellanos, The Greek God of Hard Contact.  It read like this, “Mr. Castellanos, before going to bat, take a sip of a La Croix — pamplemousse, peach-apricot, really any of them except coconut — so this way you hiccup and/or burp right as you swing, which will jerk your swing into an uppercut motion.”  I’m not saying he read that and followed my advice, but, yes, he did.

Dallas Keuchel – 6 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 4.15.  Nice showing, but it was against the Royals, who are a constitutional monarchy, and have power in name only.

Jorge Soler – Likely out for a while with a fractured toe, but don’t worry the Royals went into their bag of “Hey, this guy was a fun prospect at some point in the last half decade” and called up Adalberto Mondesi, who you might remember as Raul Mondesi Jr..  Crazy Father’s Day for the Royals, they lost a ‘sun’ and called up one who no longer wants to be named after his father.  Adalberto and Nelson Cruz (who dropped the Jr. at some point) should start a We Got A Bastard Father Anonymous Club.  Mondesi has 70-steal speed, but .185-average ability, so grab him if you’re desperate for speed in deep leagues.

Danny Duffy – 6 IP, 6 ER, ERA at 5.55.  I found this interesting (it’s not intersesting), and maybe you will too (you won’t).  The Orioles are a terrible pitching staff, this is well known.  According to the stats, the Royals are much worse.  Told you interesting (not in the least).

Whit Merrifield – Left the game after fouling a day off his knee.  He seemed to be in great pain, but really we’ll never know another man’s pain.  Except the pain of a standup comedian at an open mic night.  That pain is pretty clear.

Brad Keller – 6 IP, 3 ER, 12 baserunners, 1 K, ERA at 2.63.  He’s a Rule 5 guy.  Rules 1 thru 5 are, “Don’t talk about Rule 5 guys.”

Hunter Dozier – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 3rd homer.  True story, Brian Dozier took a dookie and it floated into a radioactive sewer and turned into Hunter Dozier.  He is Brian Dozier’s dookie.  Let that sink in.  Psyche!  It can’t, because it’s a floater!

Matt Duffy – 3-for-4, 2 RBIs, hitting .318.  Duffy has been hot, dating back into the middle of last week.  I’m sure he will wake up at some point and realize this season is all a dream.

Aaron Hicks – 2-for-5 and his 8th homer, hitting .243, 2nd homer this week, but hitting near-.150 in that time.  He was filling in for a beat-up Gardner.  That sounds like an ICE situation in a sanctuary city.  Topical!

CC Sabathia – 7 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 11 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 3.30.  Resist the urge to look at Corbin’s ERA vs. Sabathia’s.  Resist, Grey, resist.  Dot dot dot.  Ugh!  I can’t!

Luis Severino – 8 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.09.  The Rays had multiple opportunities to score in this game.  They received 12 opportunities, exactly.  The twelve pitches Chasen Shreve threw between Severino and Chapman.

Jurickson Profar – 2-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 8th homer, hitting .243.  Yes, much better than he’s ever been.  I *pinkie to mouth* Profar this Jurickson.  However, eight homers and .243 is good?

Trevor Story – 2-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 15th homer, hitting .270.  I know you hate when I get scientific, but Trevor Story has been near a top 15 player overall on the year, according to our Fantasy Baseball Player Rater.

Wade Davis – 1/3 IP, 4 ER, ERA at 4.55.  Well, you knew what you were getting when you drafted a Rockies closer.  Though, you might’ve expected that garbage in Coors not on the road!

Jon Gray – 5 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 5.89.  Jon Gray went in to see a doctor about his sleeping disorder.   “Do you have trouble falling asleep?”  “No.”  “Then what is the problem?”  “Right before I’m ready to wake up, I shit the bed.”

    Grey!!!

    Great write-up, awesome, superlative!

    a. Brad Keller – aka Helen Keller’s long lost grandson! Get it, he’s missing his spots because he’s partially blind.

    b. Busy as a bee for my last week on the job (ow, eye roll!), so…

Mark Twain quote of the day for June 18

Young Man: Do you believe that many of the dumb animals can think?

Old Man: Yes–the elephant, the monkey, the horse, the dog, the parrot, the macaw, the mocking-bird, and many others. The elephant whose mate fell into a pit, and who dumped dirt and rubbish into the pit till bottom was raised high enough to enable the captive to step out, was equipped with the reasoning quality. I conceive that all animals that can learn things
through teaching and drilling have to know how to observe, and put this and that together and draw an inference–the process of thinking. Could you teach an idiot the manual of arms, and to advance, retreat, and go through complex field maneuvers at the word of command?

Young Man: Not if he were a thorough idiot.

Old Man: Well, canary-birds can learn all that; dogs and elephants learn all sorts of wonderful things. They must surely be able to notice, and to put things together, and say to themselves, “I get the idea, now: when I do so and so, as per order, I am praised and fed; when I do differently I am punished.” Fleas can be taught nearly anything that a Congressman
    can.

    Cheers,
    Ante

            Thanks, man!

Will explain in detail…For the first time since I was married, I had my own bank account (For those asking, my wife wears the pants in our relationship and I’m like the Zeta male). Then, my wallet was stolen in Greece on the stupid Athens subway system. In short, wanted to buy SON for the first time with my own money with nobody asking me (aka my wife) why did a charge of XX$ come up on the bill. Anyway, I will get my new cards when I go home again next Tuesday. First purchase…SON!!

Good stuff. Hope you enjoyed your Father’s Day. Quick question:

I’m projected to be 58 innings above the cap….I’m trying to bring that total down. Should I start deGrom today? He’s 4th on today’s stream-o-nator, but he’s in Colorado and his value is only $10.10 which is very average. We lose points for hr allowed, hits allowed, walks allowed, but gain points for innings pitched and strikeouts. After all, he’s Jacob deGrom, but every now and then, he has one of hear starts.

    Need some lineup help.

I have Jo Ram @ 2B and Arenado at 3B. Who would you start at SS?
Didi who got 29 points last week and play seven games this week
Machado who got 8 points last week and play six games this week

10-team weekly H2H categories with OPS. Are we ready to bail on Smoak? The plate discipline changes from last year have stuck, but his hard hit is down, GB% is up, barrels way down, HR/FB also down. Expecting a turnaround? He’s been a killer in my CI spot with only 8 RBIs in the last month and waiver options include Aguilar, Matt Davidson, Brian Anderson (@ Coors later this week), Moran, and Candelario.

Any worth a pickup for at least the week ahead? Thanks Grey!

    • Grey

Thoughts on Modesi and Dom Smith.

I seen Dom Smith play and looks like a low power first baseman.

Now Mondesi in KC…his stock has fallen and was only batting .250, I think he was also injured to start the year like Dom Smith.

Any idea about the full talents of these 2, especially Modesi? I look at the talent on paper and Mondesi seems to be a 20-20 player at least.

    • OaktownSteve says:
      (link)

      @Mark:

Dom Smith looks like late career Joe Mauer with a lower batting average, worse part and line up. Mondesi can at least steal some bases maybe.

@Mark: Agree with Oaktown — Smith is so bleh

A few weeks back I picked up Moncada off the dung heap. And he’s still heaping dung. Is he what he is? Or what I hope he’ll be?

Should I grab Profar instead? Moncada is hitting #7ish while Profar has been in the #4/5 slot recently. If nothing else, the R/RBI’s should be in Profar’s favor.

    • OaktownSteve says:
      (link)

      @bigbear:

Grabbing Profar over Moncada is like going a few years into the future and picking up Moncada over Barreto or some other post- post-garbage. My guess is Profar but with a 20-25% chance Moncada gets really hot enough to actually matter whereas Profar doesn’t have the ceiling for me any more.

Willie Calhoun, Jackie Bradley, Stephen Piscotty, Kole Calhoun, Clint Frazier?

    • OaktownSteve says:
      (link)

      @Kingslayer:

Piscotty’s had a swing adjustment. His bat looks like it’s on a much better path. Hitting about .300 over the last couple of weeks. Still doesn’t get every day ABs though and the power hasn’t shown. I could see him being useful. Probably prefer him over K Calhoun and Bradley. Not sure about W Calhoun and Frazier. Be interested to see what Albright has to say.

      • The Great Knoche says:
        (link)

@Grey: Willie needs to give them a read to free him. 6 HR with .739 OPS in 300 ABs isn’t screaming promotion. Bright spot is K Rate at 11%.

Good morning & happy Monday, Grey!

Got 3 players to see if they’re worth holding onto in 12-team, 6×6 (OPS & QS), deep bench league (we get 1x “NA” slot):

    1. Sano… yeah, I’m like 90% sure he’s droppable, but is there a glimmer of hope he’ll fix his Shizz and be back to hitting HR’s?

    2. R. Osuna – I currently have him in my “NA” slot hoping we get some good (Fantasy) news today/ soon. Is this fools gold?

    3. J. Gray – I just can’t seem to drop this guy. He’s striking out almost 10 guys per start… but seems to be letting up almost as many runs per game too.

Are any of these 3 worth holding?

    Ok, so here’s a big(ger) one-
5 player keeper league, we’re in year 18 (so yeah, it’s a long term one).
Got offered Arenado and next year’s last round pick for Acuna and next year’s first round pick.
My gut says if I can close the pick gap a little bit, do it. Is there something I’m missing for Arenado? Like some long range regression coming? I get the age difference, but won’t Arenado stay top-20 (if not top-10) for at least 5 more years? Acuna looks great, but I’m not so overwhelmed with him. I have Machado, Benintendi, Rizzo and Hoskins to close out my likely keepers.
    Thoughts?

    Panic in Camp Alright?

Now there’s not just one but two single digit pursuers in the NFBC. Oh, the troubling signs and the sleepless nights. Felipe nee Rivero hanging above your head by a thread like the sword of Damocles. He goes down and you can probably kiss 2 or 3 save points buhbuy. Also, you only saw 19 innings pitched on you bench and only 6 by a starter. You’re going to need Darvish and Ryu (setback!) back. Wacha, Williams and Mikolas have shown some weakness. Not a single home run off your bench last week. The barbarians are at the gate.

On a lighter note, this is a real question. Guzman or Sandoval in an NFBC league this week.

The Oaktown Kids still riding a 10 point lead. True story…the kids team has Mookie, Snell, Bauer, Morton et al documented here previously. I asked them who they thought the most valuable player on the team was and they both said Yangervis. A little proud tear formed in my eye.

@OaktownSteve: Haha, didn’t you fall to third this week? Kidding, I am scared… My team somehow has no replacements and am one injury from disaster… Then again, I’m in serious regression territory so injuries might be welcome… But still nothing really from my first two rounders… I’d go Sandoval… Yangervis has been great, but better than Bauer/Betts, valuewise sure, but don’t let them spin reality so young…

        @Grey:

I did fall to third and I’m rolling with a very flawed team myself. I could use last year’s late season Buxton. Can’t believe I got suckered by that dog. My pitching is thin enough that I rolled Ian Kennedy (Tex, @Hou) out there for the two start. What could go wrong?

I could see a smoking hot summer from Stanton, Bellinger or both for sure. In fact I still expect it…except we’re nearly half way in and each day you start to think this might be what it look like.

This might be a double comment so I apologize in advance. My big money league team has now won SEVEN games in a row.

Every year, I make the mistake of hopping on the Sociopath’s carousel and picking up an Angels closer. I must be a glutton for punishment, because I picked up B. Parker. Thoughts on him ROS? I am already thinking of hopping off the Sociopath carousel and dropping him. My other closers are Kela, Trienen, and Boxburger. I am concerned Parker is going to blow up my ratios and then be out of the closer job in a month anyway. Also thinking I can get more value out of streaming pitchers and batters with that Roster spot.

    Thoughts?

    Which side do you like?

Desmond and Cruz vs Kemp and Meadows

I have Kemp (picked him 25th round) and I dealt with him and his stupid injuries all year last year. I feel like the regression fairies are going to catch up with him sooner or later and it might be time to sell high..

    Morning, Grey.

    A. Could you help me choose a pitcher to sit from the following:

    Eflin @Wsh
    Gibson vs Bos
    Pivetta @Wsh
    Stripling @Chc

    B. Managed to dodge the Wacha bullet by trading him away before his Chc start, but it looks like Merrifield – who I traded Wacha for – may have gotten hit in the knee by that very bullet!

    • The Shoe says:
      (link)

@The Shoe: C. This is a follow-up to part A: Another option would be to pick up Covey for his start vs Oak, but I’d have to drop someone, most likely Eflin (unless Gibson or Pivetta should be dropped first which I doubt…). How would you rank Eflin, Covey, Pivetta, and Gibson?

      • The Shoe says:

Who puts up better stats for a 5×5 standard roto league (R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG) ROS – Goldy or Abreu? Abreu is super steady and Goldy has had an interesting year. I have an offer of Goldy for my Abreu and wondering if I should take it.

Sorry if I asked this before. I think I asked this question before on a previous post, but I can’t find it.

Thought so…thanks. Just traded Abreu for Goldy. I now have Goldy and Freeman for 1B/UTIL. Hoping Goldy’s problems are in the past and continues to look like 2017 Goldy. That K-rate and difficulty hitting the fastball is a little concerning.

BTW, have you seen the comparison between Folty and Cole over the last 30 days – same IP, same K’s, Folty’s ERA / WHIP 1.13 / 0.84 to Cole’s 3.66 / 1.03. Who’s better ROS?

Obviously don’t have to make the decision right now, but I need to pull Teheran off the DL. 16 team h2h dynasty 6×6. use OPS and k/bb + QS. we don’t use holds.
    My roster is c-ramos, 1b-hosmer, 2b-joram, 3b-bryant, ss-correa, of-stanton, blackmon, marte, util-cruz, brantley, bn-beltre, kipnis, jorge polanco, carlos santana.
SP-verlander, madbum, price, alex wood, quintana, duffy, sonny, clevinger, gausman, teheran, DL-ervin santan, salazar. RP-tepera, vazquez, strickland, melancon, treinen, hector rondon, peacock.

options to drop seem to be kipnis, jorge polanco, peacock, tepera. i’m leaning kipnis. which one would you drop or would you let someone else go? It’s a deep league and basically all SPs owned so i have to roster and bench or spot start duffy, sonny, teheran.

Someone is trying to unload Pivetta. Offered me Pivetta, Descalso, B Parker for Rendon (I declined). Just offered me Giles and Pivetta for R Ray. Not loving that offer either… I’m doing really well in pitching ratios and wins but middle of the pack in strikeouts and saves. Giles would likely be a drop for me so it’s essentially Pivetta for Ray straight up.

It’s a keeper league and I could keep Pivetta for $10 next year and then $13 the year after I believe. Ray is keepable next year at $16. My roster below.. would you counter offer and if so what should I offer for him?

    C E.Gattis ($13, x, x)
    C R.Martin ($5, $10, $13)

    P S. Bieber ($5, $10, $13)

    hey Grey/others,

2 questions: about a 15 team roto with OBP.:

    1) Do you think Brian Dozier will end up a top 5o overall player in an OBP league?

I keep targeting Dozier as a buy low (but now worried this will be all season) to replace Starlin Castro and have been rebuffed on a number of trades. This has been suggested by him in return:

Give: Carlos Santana and Lance McCullers
    Get: B Dozier

    Fair / underpay / overpay?

    2) would Dozier or Javy Baez be a better target for ROS?

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      1. Yes, trade looks decent for you… It’s McCullers for Dozier, Santana is useless 2. Dozier

      • braves uk says:

        @Grey: Thanks, will proceed!

You still think Santana is useless even in OBP format? (I have him in another league and in my RCL after he was dropped after his rubbish April, and I’ve been pretty happy with him !!)

The team in second in the NFBC is pretty strong on offense but has very limited room to grow due to being in first or second every where but SBs. Betts, Judge, Story, B. Dozier and plenty on the bench. The pitching looks pretty rough though. It’s hard to count any upside points and any bad luck in the pitching area could see a drop. Hard to envision him getting to where you are now. Fister Pujols slumped a bit but that team could stay in the running as well. Still time for a late bloomer. I think any of the chase teams will need you to come back by 4-5 points I think. It’s an interesting race, at least I hope it will be.

I love breaking down leagues and and other teams. Hard to find time to do it. Store is super slow Monday mornings on the summer schedule. Enjoyed participating in the comments this a.m. too.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I enjoy you participating! I don’t have time to look at other teams usually… I just made a call to move Tyson Ross into my lineup and Wacha to the bench, I will prolly change that five times before locked lineups… Amazing there are 100+ teams in front of me in overall standings… You really need a perfect season to compete for overall… I guess if I had Betts instead of Giancarlo and Springer instead of Bellinger it would’ve helped my cause, but I’m leading the league, and not even close on overall…

        @Grey:

I got a top 20 in the 12 teamer overall a few years back. Was inside the top 10 as late as August. Had a really, really good team but definitely not a perfect team. One common thread of the champs is hitting the break out guys. That’s really what elevates a team.

    A. Blake Parker, ugh. He’d been OK, but yesterday and outing prior was ugly. Figure either Scosciopath is gonna demote him or trade for a closer will be the case before he provides enough value to hold. Drop in a 10 team 5×5 if I’m strong at closer? How about 12 team?

    B. Is Yates a must-own at this point? Been pretty unhittable and figure Hand will Get traded eventually; must own in 10 team 5×5?

    C. Trying to catch up on innings in a 5×5 roto (-55 pace) so I’ve been streaming where it fits. Would you start Suarez today? He’s been kinda meh but the robot likes him (MIA, +11).

    D. In a deep 12 team 6×6 QS league, should I hold Lugo? Obv can’t start him @COL, but his PIT start looks good. Worth losing the roster spot for 10+/- days to get to PIT? Or drop and maybe pick back up if it so fits?

    Thanks!

What to do with Dee Gordon? Got him in a trade during his 10 day d/l for Odubel, who is now on the waiver wire, because I needed steals. Soon after he came off I believe he stole 3 bases and since then nothing. I just read about michael taylor stealing 4 so Grey I ask you WTF to do with Dee Gordon who offers little else. Do i go get taylor? I also saw your write about Adalberto who has 70 steal potential. So for a team that is breaking records for one run wins you would think Gordon would be used more to get a runner in scoring position. I watched C Mart Saturday, and have watched most of this season. He’s really fallen in love with his 2 seamer and new cutter. Throw that damned upper 90s four seamer more. He did it in the fifth and mowed ’em down.

Domingo German at home against SEA

SON isn’t super high on the latter two either and German is maybe the obvious sit but damn I watched his start the other day and hit stuff is filthy when he is on (granted it was the Rays).

    Things I just learned:

Matt Olson leads the Fangraph Hard Hit% @ 52.5%, ahead of JDM and next on the list is Krush. A’s are a piece or two away from being legit. Get me Puk and Luzardo in two years and we’ll be in business.

Then again, Matt Carpenter is 5th on that HH list, so there’s that.

There are only two players with FB% above 50%: Gallo and Hoskins. The trends I saw with Hoskins at the end of last year, his Ks going up and his HH going down seem to have carried over. I think he’s an important guy to watch the second half to get a better sense of his true talent. One of those guys if he shows the ability to make adjustments and finishes strong but under the radar strong I might try to catch him on the rebound next year at value.

Here’s one I would not have guessed: Michael Fulmer has the 5th fastest average fastball. I like Fulmer. He’s got good compete and seems like he’s got an idea out there. I think he lacks deception. Be interested to know if he’s got some tells like weird arm slot tips or something. Just doesn’t really miss many bats. The increase velo came with a few more Ks over last year but also a few more walks. His ERA, FIP and xFIP are just about identical. I bet if he went to the Astros he’d be an animal.

Per Fangraphs pitch values, Michael Wacha has the most effective change up in baseball this year. He’s throwing it 22% of the time. IT’s one of those hard king felix changes it looks like. Relying on movement as much as the velo separation. Meanwhile his fastball velocity is down and it really looks like the command is as wall. Makes me think the shoulder still just isn’t right when you add the increase reliance on the change and the trouble with the #1.

So Olson hit the crap out of the ball on both hits he’s had in his last 30 ABs?Couldn’t hang anymore in a league that counts Ks.

      • OaktownSteve says:
        (link)

        @hondo:

I hear you. There are 9 other guys who have struck out more by percentage including Judge, Stanton and Gallo. He’s pacing for 30 homers 150-155 runs and RBI. I’ll kind of keep him in the same category as Hoskins in so much as the remainder of this year should be super interesting. We’ll know a lot more about him as a player by the time the season is over. I’m not totally sold on the way he holds his hands in his stance. I feel like from where he starts it really hard for him to get on up and in. Here’s his Brooks Card for ISO relative to location. This bears out the eye test too, which suggest he’s still mostly a mistake hitter.

2 keeper league with keepers appreciating 2 rounds every year until they graduate into the FA pool. My current OF is Benintendi, Meadows/Jones, and Judge with Juan Soto a fill in and util player(Cespedes on the DL). Trade I am thinking about offering: Judge with 4 seasons of keeper eligibility remaining after this year for Trout and Yelich, both of whom would be ROS rentals. My other keeper is Trea Turner in the 9th and would likely keep Soto next year in the 10th. It’s a H2H 6×6 with Total Bases instead of hits. Only thing hanging me up on my side is the volatility of a 19 year old and putting that much faith in him. But he has been superb to start. What say you wise Grey? Well, you saved the best for last my friend. Being a Jon Gray owner, that was spot (or should I say stain) on. For a guy with supposed good peripherals, he sucks! And Michael Wacha also stuck it to me but good last week. That -20 Points in our league hurt like hell.

So a question Grey. Do you know how today’s early Yanks – Nats game works? I believe Rendon is playing and he scored a run, but my team stats are not updated. Not that it really matters, but I thought I would ask.

Hey Grey – looking to win now in a 12-team keep-7 forever league (I’m currently 2nd/3rd). Would you trade your $3 Bellinger (lowest possible keeper price) for:

    $18 Sale
    $23 Manny
    $9 Correa
    nonkeeper Marte plus nonkeeper Kershaw

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Correa

@Grey: Thanks! Amazing how half a season changes things, but I can’t help but agree.

        Thanks.

    Hey Grey,

It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out why it looked like the Nats/Yankees had a double header today on Yahoo, but not on Fantrax. I had no idea they were finishing up a game (with Tankaka pitching) from earlier this season. As a Soto owner, I suppose there’s no way I get credit for his 2-run pinch-hit homer today, right? If not, that sucks, but perhaps if nothing else it’ll ensure he’s in the lineup later tonight.

Oh, and it looks like Elvis who hasn’t been hitting on his rehab stint has bumped Delino (who has been hitting) from the 2 hole back to the 9 hole. Seems like it’d be better the other way around. Can you tell I own the Dentist?

    Have a good one!

  135. GrassyKnollRedding says:
    (link)

Ugh. You could drive a truck through the hole in Bryce Harper’s swing right now.

Is it just me or did the Nationals get Kelvin Herrera for basically nothing? The haul didn’t really seem to include any top-of-the-line prospects to me, but I’m no Ralph.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Yeah, they were just unloading him

      • GrassyKnollRedding says:
        (link)

@Grey: Wow. Nats just walked Gleyber to load the bases for Bird. Would love to see that stat: Youngest to be intentionally walked with two men on. Gotta think Gleyber reached “feared-hitter status” quicker than most rookies.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

          Also, Bird is so awful

      Yes, Doolittle…. Rodney

  138. Ty says:

      None? Musgrove

  139. Fred Garvin MP says:

So I’m gonna guess that Soto owners aren’t going to get that 2 run homer on their ledger unless they inexplicably had him in their lineups on May 15?

    • Grey

      (link)

      I’d imagine so

    • Al KOHOLIC says:

      • Fred Garvin MP says:
        (link)

@Al KOHOLIC: You’re preaching to the choir, Al. If mlb deemed him eligible and the stats count for them, shouldn’t the numbnuts at ESPN do the same?

  140. OaktownSteve says:

I actually did listen to you on one player this year, Alright. You and the Razzers convinced me on Bauer. I was wrwrwr. He’s a champ maker. Oaktown kids! By the way the Oaktown Kids are about to get a finally red hot Rendon to go with Myers replacing the Guzman/Panda platoon.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Too bad that Guzman/Panda platoon might beat out Myers even when Myers is healthy

@Grey: too bad he gets the Nats next – no point in streaming him there – the first time didn’t go well at all

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

          Yeah

  142. Mike says:

      Meh, hold

  143. Alex says:

      (link)

Ha, too bad Kapler happened to the Phils bullpen

      • Gotime says:
        (link)

@Grey: Kapler!! Well I won this round as it’s QS league, until next week or so and he pulls him out of a 5 inning shutout after 56 pitches…

      (link)

      Damn, had no idea

      • William Hung says:
        (link)

@Grey: that kind of stat sticks out when you own him

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

I own him, but I only pay attention to the once/twice a week homer

  151. DodgerWindowClosed says:
    (link)

Couple questions below given this overachieving squad below (H2H league, 12 teamer, 20 games in front)

    C- Gattis
CI – Freeman, Eugenio, Carlos Santana (walks is a cat, so he helps me there)
    MI – Dee, Bregman, DeJong
LF – Rosario, CF – Trout RF – Mazara. 2 OF: Jo Ma, Peralta
    Util – Cruz
Bench – Seager (no one wants him on a trade right now)
SP – Max, MadBum, Bauer, Morton, Kendrick’s, Pivetta, Wood
RP – Parker, BearClaw, Britton (yep, a mess but SAGNOF)

    1. Seager always gets his 25 HRs but such a drag on average, Ks this year. Tough to trade. He hardly ever cracks my lineup. About what level of player would you seek in return or hold for a few weeks before our trade deadline and hope for a streak?

    2. Saves and holds league. Herrera just hit the wire. Could he be a decent answer to holds which I have punted so far this year? If so, who gets cut?

    3. Should I stop tinkering and let my boys play? (Over manager?)

Note: my favorite nickname is The Federalist. Do you have one that you are most proud?

    2.
