As Ice Cube sang on the now-iconic song, It Was An Away Game, “Just waking up in the morning gotta thank God.  Today, German was away, carrying my whole squad.”  Then later on, he sings, “I felt ill after that big fat DeSclafani, pitching like he just pulled out of bed in jammies, but German killed those baserunners like every role by Allison Janney.  And my teams run deep so deep so deep I’d put your ass to sleep talking about how on one team Alex Cobb’s my number one, but I didn’t hesitate to call German Marquez my top gun.”  Imagine you were a Rockies fan who only watched home games, the team’s contract with German Marquez (9 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 0 walks, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.00) would be tré confusing.  After 100 pitches, he is so low effort throwing 97 MPH in the 9th inning, and occasionally drops in an off-the-table curve that is freaking brothers every way like M.J.  I can’t believe today German’s game was away.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

Nolan Arenado – 1-for-2, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 1st homer, hitting .254.  In honor of Palm Sunday, I’m going to carelessly leave the Shroud of Turin in my open window sill to get some sun…NOOOOO!!!  Torenado!!!

Madison Bumgarner – 7 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.12.  His velocity is still whatever (fastball 90-ish, slide 85-ish), and no new velocity is coming unless Balco reopens in San Fran and Bum’s bum gets a dose.  However, his spin rate has gone through the roof (twirling, prolly).  He’s added more spin (309 RPMs) than any other pitcher (Burnes is 2nd), and he’s third for spin increase on breaking pitches.  Also, he’s attacking hitters differently, further inside for righties with the fastball and breaking pitches.  Not ready to say he’s back to a top 10 SP, but he’s not as bad as I worried he’d be coming into the year.

Rougned Odor – Hit the IL with a sore knee.  Speaking of knees, I’m taking a knee on ever drafting this schmohawk again.  I’m never even going to draft his brother, Rougned Odor.  Yes, he has a brother by the same name.  That should’ve been warning enough that I should avoid this schmohawk.  I’m actually sympathetic to Jose Bautista now for getting cold-cocked by Odor.  Rougned is a total POS and may his knee never heal so he doesn’t return to drag down my team’s batting average.  Like a rejected Axe Body Spray tag line:  Be gone, Odor!

Elvis Andrus – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs a slam (3) and legs (4), and a double short of the cycle, hitting .414.  Elvis has reentered the building!

Delino DeShields – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 4th and 5th steal, hitting .200, as he hit leadoff.  I dropped him in one deeper mixed league, which means he’s almost definitely about to break out.  DeShizz is not living his best life if he’s not driving me crazy.  *breaking news sounds* I just picked him up; may the Fantasy Baseball Overlord have pity on us all.

Stephen Piscotty – 1-for-4 and his 3rd homer.  Khris Davis (1-for-4, 1 RBI) must be rubbing off on Piscotty as 1-for-4 with a homer is what Davis has averaged for the last 750 games.

Brett Anderson – 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 2.63.  Solid MediOAKer start in an away game.  Streamonator doesn’t love his next start, and he’s not someone I start without SON’s approval.

CC Sabathia – 5 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 0 walks, 3 Ks, as he returned.  Unfortch, Domingo German (2 IP, 0 ER, ERA at 1.38) came in to relieve him.  Does that mean German has been bumped from the rotation?  I don’t think so, but the Yanks might not have needed a 5th starter for a while.  Don’t worry, German will get some job security when J.A. Happ is placed on the Disgraceful List with suckage.

Masahiro Tanaka – 4 IP, 5 ER, ERA at 3.22.  Welcome back, pre-All-Star Break Tanaka!

Jose Abreu – 1-for-3, 1 run, 1 RBI and two steals (1, 2).  Were these his 1st two steals of his career?  Did he have a 79-foot lead?  To speed up baseball, did Our Commissioner Manfred install a moving walkway between 1st and 2nd base?  Did new Yankees’ catcher, Kyle Higashioka, get throwing lessons from Mackey Sasser?  I have questions, y’all!

Tim Anderson – 1-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 3rd homer, a grand slam, hitting .429.  Though, with Higashioka catching, it might’ve been a bunt single and a quick steal of three bags.

Carlos Rodon – 6 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.27.  Wanted no part of Rodon in the preseason, but four starts in…well, *twists arm* Okay, but his velocity is down, his walks are still ugly and I don’t trust him.  I swear I started this blurb looking to be positive for Rodon, but I couldn’t get there.

Chris Archer – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks, ERA at 2.00.  He came up just a hair short of the 14-inning perfect game he needs to throw every time out to live up to expectations after the Meadows/Glasnow trade.

Jameson Taillon – 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 3.43.  *finger pushes on listening device in ear* I’m getting word that Tameson Jaillon in a parallel universe where he’s trade to the Rays just struck out 12 guys.  Crazy!

Anibal Sanchez – 7 IP, 2 ER, 8 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 4.86.  “Two strikeouts in seven innings?  Let’s trade for him!”  That’s Ray Searage.

Zach Eflin – 4 IP, 6 ER, ERA up to 3.94.  The Regression Fairies personally know a judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race; they once rolled their eye so hard they lost a contact, and they will destroy your ratios.

Vince Velasquez – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 2.25.  No lie, I own Velasquez in one league and have yet to put him into my lineup. I might want to change that.  In fairness to me, it’s a weekly league and he’s faced the Nats a lot.  Though, yesterday was vs. the Marlins, so I think even my excuse for being stupid is stupid.

Cesar Hernandez – 2-for-5 and a slam (1) and legs (2), hitting .200. The last Phillies hitter to get hot, and that includes Scott Kingery, who is hitting .500+.

Caleb Smith – 6 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.65.  To illustrate the kind of faith I have in Caleb Smith, I have owned him the entire year in my RCL league (12-team mixed), and will start him until further notice.

Brian Anderson – 1-for-5 and a slam (2) and legs (2), hitting .232.  B.A. was an A stream.

Jefry Rodriguez – 5 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks as he replaced Clevinger in the Indians’ rotation.  Jefry is pronounced like Jeffrey, but it’s rarely pronounced because he has a 5.71 career ERA.

Carlos Gonzalez – 1-for-5, 1 run as he was recalled from the minors.  When he was a rookie, people knew what CarGo was.  Now the world’s digital and people are like, “CarGo?  That’s just soon-to-be litter, do you not care about the environment?”  An Old might say, “But don’t you need some things still delivered, like toilet paper?”  “No, toilet paper is now digital to save dolphins, you insensitive prick!”

Corey Kluber – 2 2/3 IP, 6 ER, 6 hits, 5 walks, 4 Ks, ERA at 6.16.  Walking five Royals in 3 IP is like walking Joey Votto 11 times in a game.

Leonys Martin – 3-fof-5, 2 runs and his 3rd homer, hitting .271.  He was a hot schmotato who made Friday’s Buy column, and now, as if life couldn’t become even more grand, he’s reappeared and still hitting homers.

Wily Peralta – 1 IP, 0 ER and the win, and a save on Saturday, ERA at 7.71.  We’re in our 2nd year of Wily Peralta, Royals closer, and him being garbage.  Apparently, those things are mutually exclusive.

Yasiel Puig – 2-for-5 and his 1st homer.  Thank God, I was beginning to worry I drafted in the 6th round the equivalent to Tie Domi.

Jesse Winker – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs, hitting .190, and his 4th homer in the last five games.  Winker isn’t supposed to have this much power, but I think we need to assume players hit for more power in the majors, as crackers as that sounds.

Marcell Ozuna – 2-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 4th and 5th homer, hitting .275.  OZUNA love to hit with healthy shoulder.  OZUNA shoulder feel brand new.  OZUNA shoulder have new car smell.

Tyler O’Neill – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 1st homer.  Five over-the-internet dollars that you will never collect that O’Neill will hit another home run in his next start.

Sean Newcomb – Sent to Triple-A.  Didn’t love any of the Braves starters coming out of the spring, picked up some hot-monkey-love, hump-hump action for Max Fried, but Newcomb was a pass from me.  A Newcomb is unnecessary when you have hair like mine.  *turns to the mirror, blows kiss, mirror falls off the wall and crashes*  Okay, that was a coincidence.  However, now the Braves have Newc’d Newcomb and are doing it all for the Touki.  Toussaint, that is.  I went to grab Touki in all my deeper than 12 team leagues, and could even see him in 12-teamers if you’re in need of some upside.

Arodys Vizcaino – Hit the IL with shoulder inflammation.  The writing was on the wall with this one, and the writing said, “There once was a man from Nantucket, yo, Vizacino’s shoulder been bad since the spring, suck it.”  The obvious replacement is A.J. Minter who should be owned everywhere.

Nick Markakis – 1-for-4, 2 runs, and his 2nd homer, and 2nd in as many games.  Sparkakis!

Josh Donaldson – 2-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer, hitting .264.  Brucely, I’m surprised he’s not already hurt, so bonus points there for him.

Jacob deGrom – 5 IP, 3 ER, 9 baserunners, (4 BBs), 9 Ks, ERA at 3.68.  On one hand, he went into Atlanta, a tough matchup, and got nine strikeouts in only five innings.  On the other hand, it’s back-to-back meh starts.  On a third hand that’s really a Baby On Board suction cup hand in a car window, you had to draft him in the top 15 overall, and I’d be screaming bloody murder if I owned him.  The Mets are saying he’s fine; A-Rod was saying he’s tipping his pitches and, if I owned him, I’d be hoping for the best, and expecting the worst because:  Mets.

Michael Pineda – 6 IP, 3 ER, 8 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 3.00 vs. Tyson Ross – 6 IP, 4 ER, 9 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.50.  This matchup was billed as, “Two guys Grey can’t believe he owns, but has been relatively happy with.”  Not sure who calls it that.  It’s not me ending a sentence with ‘with.’  I end my sentences with two withs.  Nerdy grammar jokes aside, I do own these guys, and have been happy with them, but it’s a deep league and they are backend of the rotation, so your mileage may vary.

Trevor Hildenberger – 2/3 IP, 0 ER and his 1st save, ERA at 0.00, as he relieved regular Twins closer, Blake Parker (1/3, 0 ER, 3 baserunners) from a full-on implosion.  My guess is Rocco Baldelli goes back to Parker for the next save, but obviously the leash is Pitbull short.  Meaning the leash Pitbull, the rapper, wears to formal functions, which is a short, cropped leash.

Gordon Beckham – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer, hitting .176.  Yesterday, Tiger Woods won his 1st major in 14 years, and Gordon Beckham, a Tiger, had his first positive game in 14 years.  Remarkable, priceless, phony enthusiasm.

Rick Porcello – 4 IP, 3 ER, ERA at 11.12.  Red Sox pitchers need to take an ill-fated Duck Tour.

David Price – 7 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 7 Ks, ERA at 3.79.  Wait a second, a good pitcher for the Red Sox actually pitched well against a godforsaken team?  Well, I’ll be.  Next thing you’re gonna tell me he held Chris Davis hitless.

John Means – 5 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 1.98.  Fun fact!  John Means is actually a nickname.  His full name is “John Means The Orioles Have No One Else To Start.”  It’s of British origin.

Clay Buchholz – 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 2 Ks, as he returned from the IL.  I’d use the Streamonator for Buchholz, and, an educated guess says that the robot will never like him, unless he gets some random home game during interleague or he changes his name to Metal Buchholz.  Clay’s A) Bad material to manufacture goods.  B) Reminds Streamonator of the movie, Ghost. C) There’s no C.

Freddy Galvis – 2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 5th homer, hitting .351.  Might be the hottest schmotato in the land, which was immortalized in the Genesis video, Land of Schmotatoes, when Puppet Ronald Reagan was a proud owner of Freddy Galvis and woke up in a puddle of water.

Billy McKinney – 3-for-5, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 1st homer, hitting .217.  The Bret Easton Ellis book, Less Than Zero, was about what McKinney’s done this year, but maybe he’s coming out of it.

Marcus Stroman – 4 IP, 0 ER, 3 unearned runs, 7 baserunners (4 BBs), 5 Ks, ERA at 1.99.  If you think this is a good start, I have a bridge in Madison County to sell you.  Okay, it’s a DVD of The Bridges of Madison County.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. – Was demoted.  Let’s go, bring up Guerrero, Bichette, Biggio and any other kids of the players from the 1999 All-Star Game… What’s Cal Ripken Jr. Jr. up to?  Call him up too!

Matt Strahm – 5 IP, 0 ER, 4 baserunners, 4 Ks, ERA at 4.26.  Still pretty off Strahm — let the boys be boys! — but the Streamonator is at least positive for his next start and I could see letting up on the brake a little.  I’m talking about a streamer — Strahmer? — so don’t ask if you should drop someone good for him.

Christian Walker – 3-for-4 and his 4th homer.  Christian has risen!  Week early, but we’ll take it.

Ketel Marte – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer.  Anime Grey goes over Ketel in the video at the top of the page, give it a looksie.

Fernando Tatis Jr. – 2-for-4 and his 5th homer, hitting .268.  So far he looks overmatched by major league pitching at least once a game, so he could hit .750 this year.  FTJ!  Fun the Jewels fast!

Manuel Margot – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer, hitting .333. This guy is the NL’s Delino DeShields.  They are cockroaches who won’t go away.  Someone do an artsy film about him called, Margot In My Bedding.

Mitch Haniger – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 5th homer, and 2nd homer in as many games, hitting .289.  Mitch does not kill my vibe!

Erik Swanson – With LeBlanc out for upwards to six weeks (Wade not Matt, though who knows where Matt is), Swanson was called up by the M’s.  Swanson’s a hard thrower the M’s got from the Yanks for Paxton, and has a solid-enough slider.  He could be a 9+ K/9 and mid-2 walk rate guy, so I’m buying in deeper leagues (to give you an idea, I dropped Roark for him).  The Prospectonator projections for him don’t look bad.  He’s above Kyle Wright, to throw out one random rookie starter.

Justin Verlander – 6 IP, 1 ER, 2 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 3.52.  Whew, now if I can get Just Awful Happ to not have a 17.50 ERA.

Gerrit Cole – 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 baserunners, 11 Ks, ERA at 3.24.  Elias Sports Bureau said this was the 1st time two Astros starters had back-to-back 11-strikeout games since Nolan Ryan threw both sides of a doubleheader.

Alex Verdugo – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .343.  I just spent five minutes trying to pick up Verdugo in two leagues, but I couldn’t justify dropping guys since Verdugo’s playing time is so tied up in what names Roberts pulls out of his hat.  “Batting third is…Fanatics.”  “Uh, Dave, you pulled the tag.”

Ross Stripling – 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 2.92.  Sell!  Not kidding; his peripherals look egregious.  Or you can wait for Friday’s Sell column.

Joc Pederson – 1-for-4 and his 6th homer.  As I pointed out in Friday’s Buy, the Hitter-Tron loves Pederson over the next week (now five more days?).  The Hitter-Tron also loves to go to the Pep Boys to have its holes lubed.  (Don’t shoot the messenger.)

Zach Davies – 7 IP, 1 ER, 8 baserunners, 6 Ks, ERA at 1.53.  Trying to figure out the Brewers starters year to year is like watching True Detective after a head trauma.

Would you rather own strahm or pineda in a qs league? Been waiting for strahm to show his upside. Outside of the awful first start, he has been better. Would you rather wait and hold strahm to see if he can get there or Pineda who finally went 6 innings in his last start?
    Thanks

It’s Strahm for me, but they’re close and I do think Pineda outperforms Strahm in the QS dept if that’s your focus.

Is Gardner worth holding on to in a 12-team roto that starts 5 OF and has daily lineups? Its an OBP league and I thought he be ok as a reserve since he was leading off for a good lineup with all of the off days in the schedule. He popped a couple HR and has 2 SB but isn’t getting on base and now I hear Lemahieu may be leading off more often until Hicks gets back. I’d use his spot to stream or pick up a reliever to help with ratios and K. I have Ketel Marte on the bench who now has OF eligibility. Thanks

    Hello Grey, Hello DT :)

    Nice article as usual!

I’m retooling my lineup recent days. I have added Vogelbach, Franmil, Adames, Phegley, Pineda and they made me happy. My next target to lose is Inciarte. Actually my low SB is a big concern for me. But he’s reaaaaaaaally boring.

Should I drop him and pick up DeShields? Dude always has low avg and good BB%, so if healthy, could get enough chances to steal, right? Or I can drop Adames or Hampson for him. Need your wise opinions. Thanks :)

      Hey Mojoman,

      I’d hold Inciarte for now.

Hampson over Adames works if you need steals, I think Hampson is starting to come around.

      No problem.

I mean can I drop Inciarte and pick up DeShields?
If you say hold, I can drop Hampson or Adames for DeShields.

Hampson, Adames, DeShields….. for 2 spots.

    Grey!!!

Wow! Just wow! You had me at hello, but Wow!!

    a. So bad is my catcher wound that even considered (twice, on two separate occasions) to sign up Higashioka and his .116 BA ’cause how bad could it be, he’s hitting in Yankee Stadium XXX. Thank God I didn’t do it, but no one can heal my catcher wound, so I’ll continue to pick at the scab. I must.

    b. Thanks for the VinnyV tip in the Buy column, sorry you didn’t start him. Although, Urena pitched better than VinnyV and only gave up a cheap homer to Cesar. Otherwise Urena could have won the game. He was consistently throwing 96 on the fastball.

    c. One word, Minter! Another word, Hicks! Thank you much, still sucking bark in last in my RCL (stupid Dick came up with lucky 3s!! in 1/3 of an inning, he gave up 3 runs on 3 baserunners. Thankfully he got the hold, wow, I was like so unlucky for me that this RCL league is not a save+hold league!!). It should get better now with my stable of SAGNOF – Minter, Hicks, Swarzak for saves to go along with Iglesias.

    d. Signed up Touki dropping the aforementioned Dick, such a Dick that Love(ly)lady.

    e. Signed up Freddy Galvis, another cockroach like you describe. Looks like he’ll get carte blanche to do what he wants in Toronto given their penchant to lose 100 games. Dropped Escobar for the last time this year. He’s got 6 games this week – all away, 3 in Hotlanta and 3 in Chicago, just guessing he’ll have more bad luck.

    f. Abbott and Costello quote of the day for April 15

    Drill routine

    Bud Abbott: Attention!
(fellow privates fall into attention, but Costello gives a wave and smile to Abbott)
    Bud Abbott: Never mind that.
Lou Costello That’s my pal. A big man, the captain
Bud Abbott: Wipe that smile off your face! Wipe it off!
(Costello does so, then begins to mumble)
    Bud Abbott: QUIET!
    (Costello mumbles)
    Bud Abbott: QUIET! Whaddya doing?
Lou Costello: I’m talking to myself
Bud Abbott: Well don’t talk so loud!
Lou Costello: I gotta hear what I gotta say!
    Bud Abbott: QUIET! Countoff!
    Lou Costello: 1
    Soldier 1: 2
    Soldier 2: 3
    Soldier 3: 4
    Lou Costello: BINGO!
Bud Abbott: Now you behave yourself! I won’t warn you again! Get your chins out (slaps Costello’s face) Get your chest out! Stick out your chest! (Slaps Costello’s Chest. Costello wheezes) Throw your chest out!
Lou Costello: I ain’t done with it yet!
Bud Abbott: Quiet! Right Shoulder ARMS!
(While soldiers 1, 2, and 3 all perform the maneuver, Costello throws his gun over his right shoulder)
Bud Abbott: Come on, Pick it up!
Lou Costello: I thought I had it!
    Bud Abbott: Pick it up!
    Lou Costello: Alright
Bud Abbott: Come on come on snap into it!
Lou Costello: What’s the matter? You a big man now? The Captain?
    Bud Abbott: Quiet! Order arms!
Lou Costello: I’ll have a cap pistol.
Bud Abbott: You keep quiet! I won’t warn you again.
    Lou Costello: Alright
    Bud Abbott: All right!
Lou Costello: Pick on somebody else
    Bud Abbott: Right shoulder ARMS!
(Costello puts it on his left shoulder)
Bud Abbott: I said Right shoulder arms, that’s your left shoulder!
    Lou Costello: I’m left-handed
    Bud Abbott: Get it over!
(Costello reluctantly starts but reverts back)
Lou Costello: IT FEELS BETTER OVER HERE!
Bud Abbott: GET IT OVER THERE! Get it over there!
(Costello puts the gun on his Right shoulder)
Bud Abbott: Left shoulder Arms, Right shoulder Arms, Left shoulder Arms, Right Shoulder Arms, Left…
(As he says this, the soldiers keep up, but Costello can’t, throws his gun on the ground and says)
Lou Costello: Make up yer mind will ya?
Bud Abbott: Get back there, Come on!
Lou Costello: (imitating Abbott) Left shoulder arms, right shoulder arms
Bud Abbott: QUIET! Do as your told! Order Arms!
Lou Costello: (imitating Abbott) Left Shoulder…
    Bud Abbott: QUIET! Present ARMS!
(Again, the soldiers pull off the maneuver, but Costello throws the gun at Abbott)
Bud Abbott: I don’t want it (Throws it back, but Costello throws it at Abbott again) I DON’T WANT IT!
Lou Costello: (Offering it to the soldier beside him) You want it?
Bud Abbott: Put it up there! Get it up!
    Bud Abbott: Right shoulder arms!
    Bud Abbott: Right FACE!
(Lou gets hit in the back of the head with the gun of the soldier beside him)
Bud Abbott: Come on, Come on! Left Face, Boys! (Soldiers return to the previous position) Turn with the rest of ’em.
Lou Costello: The guy hit me!
Bud Abbott: Well, turn with the rest of ’em. Pick up your gun. Right FACE!
(Lou gets hit again and drops his gun)
Bud Abbott: Oh, COME ON! Left face. (Soldiers return to previous positions) Pick up that gun, Now do as your told, turn with the rest of ’em.
    (Lou picks up his gun)
Bud Abbott: Right FACE! (Lou is hit again) Right Face! Forward March!
(As the three soldiers march with Abbott, Costello Marches in the other direction)
Bud Abbott: HALT! HALT! Where are you going?
Lou Costello: I dunno I dunno.
Bud Abbott: You don’t know? Well get with it!
Lou Costello: What time is it?
Bud Abbott: None of your business!
    Lou Costello: Nevermind.
Bud Abbott: About face! Forward March!
(As Costello and the soldiers pass each other, Costello waves)
    Lou Costello: Hello fellas.
    Bud Abbott: HALT! HALT!
Lou Costello: (to soldiers) You guys are goin’ the wrong way!
Bud Abbott: Will you get in line, here?
Lou Costello: I dunno you got me in this mess brother.
Bud Abbott: Get a load of this…(rapid) Right face! Forward March! HALT! (end of rapid) Right face! Forward March! (Wait until Costello is lined up with other soldiers) HALT! (Costello is stopped mid-stride)
Right face! Forward March! (Costello bumps into other soldiers) HALT! Get a load of this….LEFT FACE!
Lou Costello: (Costello turns slowly) Ahhhh…gently!
Bud Abbott: (Holds Costello around the waist) RIGHT FACE! RIGHT FACE!
Lou Costello: (Unable to move) Whew! Boy, what a time we had with them three.
    Bud Abbott: Mehhhh….FORWARD MARCH!
(As Costello marches, his belt falls down around his ankles and trips him up)

It is Brad. I follow your lead and don’t grab pitching early. The only other guy that I’m not sold on that I’m holding is Derek Rodriguez (I like the home park obviously…he’s a smoke and mirrors guy but has been successful).

My pitching is horrible! and we have a minimum of 25 innings a week. Do i dare and start Peralta tonight vs Stl?? This is the rest of my stadd: Snell, Buhler, woodroff, Peacock, Pivetta, Wacha. Waiting on Josh James and Honeywell tot or get called up. Even though i don’t expect much from Honeywell.

Got offered Freddie Freeman for Mondesi in a keep forever OBP league. My other keepers are Machado, Acuna, Benintendi and Hoskins, and I’m in 2nd place so far, so I can give up a little youth/potential for immediate results. I’m still leaning no, but…

Also- limited pickup league (20 for year, used 2 so far)- drop JA Happ and Paxton or keep on my bench? Shoemaker, Rodon, Pineda, Arrieta, Gauman, Stroman, Teheran all among guys who are out there. I’m trending over on innings already, so I don’t need to start someone right away.

    Thanks!

    • Donkey Teeth

      Donkey Teeth says:

It’s fair. I’d say Freeman unless you need the steals, but wouldn’t blame you for holding either. Mondesi is fun…

Hold the pitchers. Those 20 moves are precious.

      • Lubes says:
        (link)

I DO need the steals, so i’m staying put for now.

In my other league, Wheeler is out there (and no pickup limit) so I think I’m gonna drop Happ for him. (I think higher upside)

I feel the same way about Freddy Peralta as you do about Odor. If his fastball is working, you get starts like the one in Cincy. If not, there’s no plan B. No other pitches to go to, and he gets knocked around. Good riddance (except for the one league where I can’t get rid of him).

Quick note on Abreu’s steals – those were on Ottavino, not the catcher. Slow delivery, and he wasn’t even checking the runner.

Taking a chance on Margevicius this week. Soft tosser, but seems to have good fastball command and a solid slider. Has been good at keeping the ball in the park throughout his career too. Looks like the kind of guy who’ll be effective his first time around the league.

Pitching is a minefield this year. Sale is having all kinds of issues, Kluber just got shelled, and even deGrom has looked vulnerable at times. Nobody’s safe.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Ah, gotcha on Ottavino… There were a ton of steals vs Yanks yesterday so assumed catcher had to play role… Good to know… I wish I bid on Margevicius in a few leagues– Kluber’s always bad in April

Really enjoyed the song this morning Grey, thanks for that.

    Couple questions-

    1. With Odor shelved I’m on to the wire for a 2B (really wish Mondesi still had 2B eligibility in RCLs…he does in my Yahoo league). Who’s my best choice (RCL)?

Kendrick, Descalso, Castro, Walker, La Stella, Hernan Perez, Forsythe, B Dozier, Pedroia

    2. Holding Jackie Bradley for now, or dropping for wire player? – Leonys Martin, Leury Garcia, Grossman, Christin Stewart…some others, but not super excited about most.

    3. Recognizing it has only been 5.2 innings…is Kela going to get it together? (SV+H league)

    4. Are we out on Gibson if he sucks it up against Toronto tomorrow?

    Thanks as always

Attaboy on the Ad -Free option. Two questions.

    1. In my 14-team Yahoo league, 3 OF and 2 Util, I now have too many good OF (Yellich; Heyward; Pollack; Domigod; and Inciarte — plus Hoskins, who plays 1B); thus, everyone is covered. When Dahl returns, who should I drop?
    – I’ve tried trades (all rated by your tools as favoring my opponent) w/0 hope for success.
    – Travis Shaw is my bench bat (plays 1B,2B,3B).
    – Cut one of above or my 3rd RP (Colome); ie., keep a 2nd bench bat (wait for next injury).

So I am going to whine for a bit while I figure out my questions. I bought at auction 7 SPs (12-team, 5×5 league week-line-ups). 3 (Clevinger, Ryu and Heaney) are now on the Injured List, one (Happ) is on the Disgraceful List, and two (Marquez and Kikuchi) are negative on the streaminator this coming week.

    1) First, Can you give me a start-or-sit for these guys for the coming week?
Marquez vPHI -$8.5 (just off a great game but at COL against a good line-up)
Happ 4/17 v BOS $4.8 and @LAA $7.5 (2-starts is nice, but he has been AWFUL, and BOS?)
    Kikuchi @LAA (-$1.8) (meh)
Woodruff vLAD -$4.4 (Dodgers have been hitting everyone)

    2) Alternatives are the following – none are terribly inspiring:
Giolito vKC $8.7 and @BAL (2-starts are nice, and the opponents are weak, but it’s Giolito)
    Nova @DET -$1.7 and @BAL -$0.8 (same as Giolito)
    Mahle @SD $3.5
    Roark @SD $1.6
Miley @Oak -$6.0 and vMIN $7.3 (2-starts, but I can’t get too excited given the opponents)
Margevicius vSEA (not available on SON yet)
Question: Anyone worth streaming for the week?

    Hey Grey,

12-team H2H points (keeper league), limited adds per season (25 total)…

Would you drop any of my pitchers below for Gio Gonzalez as a speculative add/stash? He’s an innings eater and should get good run support, but I don’t like that he’s in the AL East.

Other stash options: Soroka, Luzardo (just got dropped), Duffy (IL spot-doesn’t count against 12 total),

    My staff:
Sale, Flaherty, Mikolas, Maeda, Musgrove, Stripling, J. Gray, Skaggs, Godley, M. Kelly

We can only carry 12 total pitchers including RP at any given time (I have Treinen/Leclerc).

    Pitching:
    Appearance (G): 0.5
    IP: 0.51
    ER: -1
    BB: -0.5
    K: 1
    QS: 2
    W: 5
    L: -2
    CG: 5
    SO: 5

    Thanks!

Unfortunately I’d rather not either. But with 120 SPs on rosters, due to roster restrictions, the choices are limited.

Who would your ‘feet held to the fire’ choice be? (Gio, Luzardo, Soroka)

Looking to shore up my speed without losing to much in the power cats. With Ohtani return looming, he and Cruz will have to split time at Util. Cruz is currently a fringe starter/bench bat based on daily matchups (I basically punted W and Ks so my bats are stacked). Both Mookie and JD can be kept thru 2020. Thoughts?

  78. Dave D says:

Well, you’re up early, Grey! Not much going on for me except I added Touki and Brasier in a couple of my NFBC’s FAAB last night. I spent heavily on Brasier but made sense as my second “closer” was Barnes/Givens.

DCs are going alright. Our Razball DC is kinda weird. My SP, supposedly my strength, has been out of wack. I had Eflin started this week finally and he sucked. Whatevs. Blake Parker. Blah. But my offense has been solid and is outpacing my arms. Strange.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

I know, bc of the stupid Red Sox game… My NFBC teams have been incredibly bad… I just started McKinney and if I have one more injury, I might not have a full team…

      • Dave D says:
        (link)

Wow, that’s pretty bad. We’ll pray for McKinney. I know the feeling though. DCs can be brutal if injuries all happen at once.

    My team

    C-Astudillo
    1-Gallo

    3-Eugenio
    SS-Story
    OF- Betts, Judge, Domingod

SP: Flaherty, Marquez, Glasnow, Bieber, Paddack, Lucchesi, Musgrove

Don’t necessarily have an open slot for them, but I can mix them in somewhere between UTIL and IF slots.

Would you drop Ryon Healy for either Beckham or Dozier?

I love Astudillo but I just couldn’t trust that he will play more than 1 or 2 times per week fantasy legends like Cron, Marwin and Castro ahead of him so I dropped him yesterday for Collin McHugh and his 2 starts.

  147. TJ says:
    (link)

Hello there Grey. Hope you are doing well. Try not to bother you as much as I can, but I have some questions for the FML.

    1) Have you watched Goldschmidt and Betts bat this year? STL fan here so I have watched much of Goldy and his batting approach just looks extremely flawed.. Haven’t seen Betts yet, but I am definitely going to have to for the sake of figuring out if this slow start is based on bad approach or just bad luck…

    2) I’m struggling on the pitching side of the game. Nola and Wheeler have left a lot to be desired so far. T. Williams has been the lone bright spot, but afraid he is going to be throwing out some clunkers along the way. I feel like the rest of my team is streamers. Luchessi, Lauer and Strahm have all been on my team, but have dropped Lauer and will give Strahm one more shot. Woodruff is my other starter, with the K’s being nice, but his ERA is killing me. Severino was my other solid piece but we see how that is panning out.

My questions in regards to #2 (no poop joke intended)… Do I try and make a trade to solidify my rotation or do I stream solely on finding matchups against the Orioles, Marlins and Blue Jays in hopes that I will be able to make the work for me weekly?

    Thanks as always.

PS. The poop joke was definitely intended…

    • Grey

      Grey says:

I thought deGrom was tipping his pitches as well.

He hit 97-97-98 at one point in the 5th at 110+ pitches. There’s nothing wrong health-wise.

While ignoring the game entirely interviewing Hank Aaron (I kinda don’t blame them, but it was not compelling baseball to talk over 2 innings of play) dude got squeezed hard by the home plate umpire, too. 3 pitches clearly in the top corner of the zone called balls.

But the reason I think he’s tipping is the takes. There were a dozen pitches slightly off the plate low & in, or an inch outside, etc that no MLB hitter can possible take outside of Bonds in his prime. That’s swing & miss stuff – pitches starting in the zone & tailing in at 95-96. ARod commented several times about how crazy it was that they were laying off of those pitches.

But nothing I saw physically wrong with dude – he does this little mumble sometimes when he get the sign he likes from the catcher. I also noticed he was striking guys out when he kept the glove in front of his face.

They’ll figure it out. This one has me not at all concerned, and I’m usually the jump to conclusions “omg his arm’s gonna fall off!!!” kinda guy.

drop black sab for neris now (i’m already dropping black sab for parker if my WW claim works) in 12 teamers with saves only. guessing hold here since barnes was in line for save yesterday. plus PHI used numerous guys for saves all the time anyway and it could by any of SA DOM, neshek, morgan, arano or maybe others anyway. guessing for saves it goes like this now: parker – barnes – neris

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Yeah, grab Neris

      • Joey Jo Jo Jr Shabadoo says:

right, but then drop neris or barnes for parker off WW tonight? have 6 moves a week. i can almost certainly wait to see if i get parker first to save a move if parker is higher, which he should be. big question is if barnes is higher than neris now

Grey any insight on why Nola sucks so bad? I’ve been so busy at work this month haven’t had a chance to watch. He fell to the 4th round to me in a 15 team mixed and I thought I had a steal, maybe the other 14 teams knew something.

I wasn’t expecting him to be around when I wanted to draft aSP. Typically don’t pay much attention to the top starters ughhhh. Sounds like severino 2.0 is a possibility.

What’s good Grey? You’re probably writing your lede for tomorrow, but needed to say/ask a couple of things. Above all, thank you for your analysis on Jose Ramirez’s splits from last year. I traded him in my 12-team keeper league for Yelich during the off-season. Yelich tonight aside, it’s been a game changer.

I have Hader, Alvarado, and Colome as closers so dropped Robertson to pick up Toussaint off waivers. I also bailed on my catcher position to hold onto Pomeranz. He doesn’t have a great start this week, but are you buying into Pomeranz’s increased velocity (i.e., 3mph)?

Another slow(er) track really like “Takeoff”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCdXG-iCWE0

    Thanks!
