Never Too Early

Postby Oregon Nut Cups » Tue May 17, 2011 8:34 am

To see how players are ranked via Yahoo (and to prove that there is no God), here are your top 10 3rd basemen according to current numbers (w/overall rank in parentheses):

Jose Bautista (#1)
Adrian Beltre (#29)
Michael Young (#33)
Martin Prado (#37)
Placido Polanco(#58)<-----God, if you're listening right now I hate you
Alex Gordon (#64)
Neil Walker (#73)
Kevin Youkilis (#74)
David Wright (#83)<------Soon to be replaced by such studs as Jhonny Peralta or Mike Aviles
Ryan Roberts (#84)

So there you have it. Basically, if you don't have Bautista or Beltre this year, you're probably missing out on good, solid 3B#s production. The fact that third is Michael Young with his 2 HRs & 4 SBs tells us it is a bad year to own a good 3B so far.

Young really hasn't been bad, though... Hitting .344 and has 31 RBI. I'd take another upper teens HR, 100+ RBI, .320 BA season at 3rd any day.
But yeah, 3B sucks this ear.

I owned him at the end of last year and rode the slip and slide ever downward so I guess I'm not as high on him this year, regardless of what he does in the first half. I'm picturing a similar line to last year but with less HR/RBI which is not too tempting to me.

Any reason to worry if you own Longoria, or have his stats just not caught up to the likes of Beltre, etc. because of his DL stint??

Nothing to worry about w/Longo. It's long season and he'll finish either #1 or #2 @3B.
