Will Longoria fall off?

Postby AdmiralTrey » Mon May 24, 2010 10:44 am

Just looking for some opinions on Evan Longoria, here...

Last year he started off extremely hot, but then he had an absolutely terrible June, July, and August before closing out with a good September. This year, his April/May numbers are close to what he did last year (other than RBI)....

April '09 - .369, 6 HRs, 24 RBI, 17 runs, 1 SB
April '10 - .341 5 HRs, 18 RBI, 22 runs, 3 SBs

May '09 - .296, 7 HRs, 31 RBI, 21 runs, 1 SB
May '10 - .295, 4 HRs, 20 RBI, 10 runs, 4 SBs

Considering his youth and the way he fell off after May last year, would it be wise to shop him around, or do y'all think that he might stay strong throughout the season?
I already know I can get Mark Reynolds and Ichiro for him if I want to, I just don't think I want to do that yet.

I think he's pretty safe for 30+HR 100 RBI and a .285-.290 AVG. I do expect SB's to trail off a bit. I'd give Reynolds and Ichiro some serious consideration if I had an OF that was just taking up roster space. That being said, Longoria is the best player in this deal.

If I recall correctly, wasn't it an injury that slowed Longoria last season? I'd take my chances that he keeps mashing, his upside is matched by only a select few.
