Commish help needed...

Postby Iron Tusk » Sat Apr 06, 2013 6:22 pm

A trade was accepted yesterday morning involing Aramis Ramirez. The trade is now pending but Aramis went on the DL in the meantime. The team getting Aramis is demanding that I should cancel the trade but I don't think I should. Am I wrong?

Thanks.

I don't think you are wrong. I would not cancel that trade. When you trade for any player you always run the risk of that player getting hurt and being put on the DL. That is just a part of fantasy baseball. If I trade a player and he hits 3 grand slams for the next 3 days in a row, then that is just bad luck. I don't get to go undo the trade because I got bit by that trade. Same goes for DL situations. That is my opinion.

This is why I like trades being processed asap. I like commish control. I hate league votes.

If there is no clearly defined rule on this sort of thing, a league will have these arguments. You are now in that spot.

If league votes decide the trade, then you do nothing. Whatever the league decides is what goes. If it is the commissioner's call, then at this point you cancel it. Let them redo the deal in two weeks if they want. If the trade was agreed to prior to the Ramirez injury, then you should have processed it then. When I ran leagues I would check the league at least four times a day. Never had a problem with trades. But leagues where we had league votes? Massive, massive problems with trades.

If this was real baseball and a trade is made and accepted and on the way into the new stadium the player trips and breaks his arm it does not void the trade.
This is a completely black and white situation the trade should stand.

Thanks for all the responses. I asked the owner for his reasoning and he actually told me that he sent the offer three days ago and it is the other owners fault for not responding quickly. He also said that he shouldn't be expected to have to check on his trade offers everyday and that now the trade is unfair. He is convinced that it is others fault for not responding to trade offers in what he considers a timely manner. I rejected his plea.

Though teams do a physical as part of all trades. Still, unless the guy clicked accept right after the injury instead of right before, you have to leave it.

buyer beware.

only time, imo, a commish should veto a trade is if one of the parties immediately writes saying it was an accidental accept.

Whatever you do you have to be consistent.

In the league I manage if either side contacts me to veto a trade before it goes through I will veto it. I don't push trades through, I let them sit 2 days and auto push unless both sides contact me to process it. Those are the rules and everyone knows them.
