The diminishing value of Kendry*S* Morales?

Postby AdmiralTrey » Thu Mar 24, 2011 2:40 pm

With every passing day, I wait for news that Morales is actually playing. In February's mock drafts, he was going as early as the 5th or 6th round. By early March, he was falling to round 8 or 9. Last night, in my friends and family league, which is usually a really competitive league, he went in ROUND 15 (To me!).
Nobody wanted to touch him with him starting the year on the DL.

I ignored him for a few rounds because I had Youkilis and Morneau at 1B already (I miscalculated by drafting David Wright with my first pick, thinking that I could get Prince Fielder with my 2nd pick and was stuck taking Youkilis in round 3, much to my chagrin, which oddly enough rarely is accompanied by an actual grin), but when the 15th round came around, I didn't care that I didn't need a third first baseman or a bench offensive player because I felt like I was getting potential strong value. If Morales only missed the first week or two and stays healthy, he could far outperform a 15th round pick.

Is Morales going to produce? He was great in 2009, and was great again in 2010 until he got hurt, but a 225 pound guy with knee and foot problems worries me. I watched Troy Glaus play all of the second half last year without any knees, and it can't be very pleasant. Especially since knees are somewhat important when trying to sit down. I know that when you were talking about Trumbo, you said "But in deeper leagues, I’d absolutely take a flyer that Kendrys has a few more setbacks. I mean, it’s already taken him way too long to recover. Who knows? ", and that's me quoting Grey, but how many setbacks do you think he's ultimately going to have?

I took him the 12th round on Tuesday. I am hoping he comes back strong by mid May.

To me you got a steal. Round 15 is for flyers anyway. Kendries is a proven player. He will be very useful to your team with D Y underachieving as per normal, when stanton is going through one of his 2 week homerless periods.

Yeah, if he's going in the 12-15th he's a super deal. It's not hard to find a 1B filler later on in drafts (Sanchez, Smoak, ect) and you could even go with Trumbo as the obvious handcuff.
