Deadline Deal for Keeper League

Postby candres » Mon Aug 05, 2013 9:17 am

10-team AL only. Keep 12 per season.

Our trade deadline is tomorrow, and I'm considering making a huge deal with the team in first place. He's in a major race with the second place team and wants to cement his victory. I'm in 4th, but 20 points off the leader. No chance of winning. I sold most of my non-keeper pieces a while back.

I'd be giving up the following:
Victor Martinez $14 - Won't have C eligibility next season - I could keep at 1B but probably wouldn't
Curtis Granderson $13 - Nice power piece for next season
Mike Moustakas $9 - I extended his contract, so I HAVE to keep him next season. He's been great the last few weeks but I'm scared.
John Lackey $10 - He's been my #2 pitcher all year and I'd keep him if he finished strong, but he's still Lackey.
Robbie Cano $36 - Great player on a good deal, but I can use the auction savings to try and snag Encarnacion or Miggy, both of whom will be back in the auction draft next season.

In return I'd be getting a few supplemental pieces that I probably wouldn't keep along with Manny Machado at $4. I'd control Manny at $4 through 2016 and could extend him pretty cheaply after that - I'd essentially be buying his entire prime.

In addition, it would allow me to keep different players. Right now, my keeper list would be:

• Carlos Santana – C – X15 - $14
• Jed Lowrie – SS – O15 - $1
• Jurickson Profar – SS – O16 - $4
• Wil Myers – OF – O15 - $4
• Mike Trout – OF – O15 - $4
• David Ortiz – DH – O15 - $4
• Matt Moore – SP - O14 - $4
• Brett Anderson – SP – O14 - $1
• Kevin Gausman – SP – O16 - $4
• Curtis Granderson – OF – O15 - $13
• Robinson Cano – 2B – X14 - $36
• Mike Moustakas – 3B– X14 - $9

I'd essentially be trading Granderson, Cano, and Moustakas off my keeper list for Machado at $4 and whatever my other two best keepers end up being - I have Middlebrooks at $4, Jared Cosart, Farquar, Alexi Odando at $8, Colome, Odorizzi, Sonny Gray, Workman, Webster, and a bunch of other pitching fliers who could distance themselves between now and next spring.

On the other hand, I'd be giving up a HUGE amount of talent - and a top-5 player - for one guy.

What do you think?

Sounds solid

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.
There's more than one player with the same last name? Then spell out who you're talking about.
