Trading for a catcher?

Postby ucbsharkbait » Sun Mar 31, 2013 4:45 pm

I'm doing a 12-team H2H points league with some friends; unfortunately, I had to auto-draft. The computer drafted Longoria, Beltre AND Lawrie onto my roster. At Catcher I have McCann, who is on the DL and who I don't like. Thinking of offering Lawrie for Carlos Santana. Good idea, bad idea or meh idea? My dumb lineup is:

C - McCann (DL)
1B - Ike Davis
2B - Utley
3B - Longoria
SS - Prado
OF - Trout
OF - Ellsbury
OF - Nelson Cruz
Util - Beltre
Util - Lawrie
Bench - several terrible players I will drop

Was also offered Lucroy for Fister -- for SP I have Lee, Greinke, Bailey, Fister, Anibal, Estrada, Cobb - surprisingly not a terrible job by the computer there. Is that any better/worse?

you should have catchers in a 1-catcher league, available on the wire...what catchers are on the wire?...also, do you have a DL spot?

I wouldn`t sweat not having a reality there is nothing wrong with choosing a catcher late...sure you got stuck with an injured guy...but you have 3 of the top 3basemen in probably one of the shallowest positions.

I think getting Carlos Santana for Lawrie would be a good deal for you...I doubt the Carlos owner would do that...but worth a try...there are a few catchers I`d probably give Lawrie up for...Mauer...even Perez...but let`s see what you have on the wire for catchers first.
10-team mixed keeper league (15 keepers), H2H - 1 Win R/HR/RBI/SB/AVG/OPS/W/CG/SHO/SV/K/ERA/WHIP/QS
C - empty (will pick up a hot catcher when ready)
1B - E. Hosmer
2B - J. Kipnis
SS - T. Tulowitzki
3B - A. Beltre
OF - M. Trout, A. McCutchen, J. Upton
UTIL - G. Stanton, A. Rizzo, B. Harper, empty slot

PITCHERS: SP - S. Strasburg, A. Wainwright, G. Gonzalez, H. Iwakuma, S. Miller, K. Medlen, H. Ryu, M. Garza, A. Cobb, H. Bailey, R. Porcello, M. Estrada, W. Peralta, S. Gray, E. Ramirez
RP - A. Chapman, A. Reed, J. Benoit
N/A slot: M. Pineda. DL - C. Maybin, M. Moore

Thanks for your thoughts! That makes sense. Offered Lawrie for Santana, but no response yet, and my assumption is "no deal" on that one.

On the wire:
AJ Ellis

Like the walks for Ellis (at least, going by last year) although Salty is tempting as well.

couldn't agree more with Blue, just add a C from the WW and ride him til he cools off.

I agree with the guys above. Catchers are easy to pick up from the waivers. I like Doumit from those options you gave.

I'd grab Salty and not worry about a trade right now. He's looked improved at the plate and his power has already been demonstrated readily.
