PreSeason Keeper Trade Involving Votto

Postby TheBigCheese11 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:28 am

I’m in a 12 team Keeper League. This rosters are a fairly standard format (1 catcher, 3 OF, 1 Util, etc.), but is an OBP league as opposed to AVG. Obviously everyone’s keepers come off the board to start the draft and then a snake draft format from there.

My Keepers are:

Joey Votto
Evan Longoria
Adam Jones

I have the 4th overall pick in the draft and now the 1st overall pick as well since I made a trade of CarGo + Harper + 3rd round pick for Longoria + Jones + 1st round (1st overall ) pick.

*Note: I'm referring to all draft rounds as 1st starting after the 3 keeper rounds

The other Keepers already off the board are the usual suspects:

Miggy Cabrera
Ryan Braun
Andrew McCutchen
Mike Trout
Robinson Cano
Albert Pujols
Prince Fielder
Giancarlo Stanton
Justin Upton
Carlos Gonzalez
Bryce Harper
Matt Kemp
Josh Hamilton
Adrian Beltre
Ian Kinsler
Jose Bautista
Troy Tulowitski
Jose Reyes
Dustin Pedroia
Edwin Encarnacion
David Wright
Buster Posey
Jason Heyward
Brandon Phillips
Ben Zobrist
Chase Headley
Justin Verlander
Stephen Strausberg
Clayton Kershaw
Cole Hamels

I've been offered the following trade:

I give: Joey Votto + 5th Round Pick (52nd)
I get: Ben Zobrist + 2nd Round Pick (16th )

I've also been offered (but am not too crazy about):

I give: Joey Votto + 6th Round Pick (69th)
I get: Jose Reyes + 3rd Round Pick (35th )

If I went with the Zobrist trade my keepers would be Evan Longoria, Adam Jones and Ben Zobrist but I'd have four draft picks in the first two rounds (1st, 4th, 16th, and 21st). The obvious downsides are I drop in overall keeper value and don't have a pick in the 3rd or 5th rounds, but four picks in the first two rounds would be nice considering who is left on the board.

So... would you do it?

Some of the names left on the draft board would be (and your opinion on who to go for?):

Matt Holliday
Adrian Gonzalez
Ryan Zimmerman
Yoenis Cespedes
Paul Goldschmidt
Billy Butler
Desmond Jennings
Jacoby Ellsbury
Carlos Santana
Pablo Sandoval

and if I could bring myself to take a SP that early these are still on the board
David Price
Felix Hernandez
Zack Greinke

I wouldn't do any of those deals. Keep Votto.
