Should I trade Cano for Braun?

Postby Flunkie » Sat Apr 02, 2011 9:21 pm

The trade would be straight-up, I'm in a 14-team keeper H2H league. I really want to do it.. everything in my head is telling me to, but I just can't pull the trigger, mainly because I have a crapload of outfielders already.

My team:

C Mike Napoli
1B Kila Ka'aihue
2B Robinson Cano
3B Alex Rodriguez
SS Marco Scutaro
IF Reid Brignac
LF Delmon Young
CF Shane Victorino
RF Torii Hunter
OF Michael Cuddyer
Util Chone Figgins
Util James Loney
Bench David Murphy
DL Jason Bay
DL Kendrys Morales

Part 2 is if I should trade Delmon Young for Vladimir Gurrerro and Craig Kimbrel, with my third rounder next year and his eighth rounder.

Cliff Lee
Dan Haren
Jeremy Hellickson
James Shields
Neftali Feliz
Brandon Lyon
Tim Stauffer
Sergio Romo
Kyle MecClellan
Julio Teheran

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.

Even though it would leave me extremely thin at middle infielders? I have 3 spots to fill, 2B, SS, and MI.. leaving me playing Chone Figgins, Marco Scutaro, and Red Brignac. That infield screams mediocre to me. And the second trade? I really want to nab Kimbrel before people realize his potential

Roto? 5x5? 12 team? Let me know as it might change my evaluation but I still think Cano for Braun is good for you. Your MI is weak but you're also starting Cuddyer so it's not a murderer's row in your OF either. Any MI available on the FA? Perhaps you move Cuddyer for one.

Sorry, I will admit I missed the second part of your request since it was woven in between your pitching and your hitting. I don't really like Delmon nor Vlad so it's a question of whether you're high on Delmon or not. I don't feel there's much of a difference other than upside for Delmon.

Yeah, I dunno if you saw it or not but it's a 14-team 6x5 H2H keeper league. I'm thinking I could pick up Espinosa, or Jose Lopez for when he gains 2B eligibility. I'd rather drop Brignac or Scutaro rather than Cuddyer.

The top 10 MI on free agents are:

Erick Aybar
Jhonny Peralta
Freddy Sánchez
Danny Espinosa
José López
Eric Young
Orlando Hudson
Alberto Callaspo
Yuniesky Betancourt
Orlando Cabrera

And for part 2, I'm not high on Delmon, but I'm even not-higher on Vlad, being that it's A. a keeper and B. he's due for some serious regression. So he'd be dead weight. Should I try inserting Cuddyer in there and see what goes down with Cuddy for Kimbrel straight up? If I could coordinate my trades, things would work out well for me.

Or they could go terrible. I just need some serious direction.

If you can get Braun, then you should do it IMO.

Lopez will provide you with enough production at 2B being in COL this season

I agree with Gumby. Take Braun while he's available.

As you can see from my sig, I like Espinoza but I think Jose Lopez will be useful this year as well, mainly for his home starts. PS, does someone have Scutaro's incumbent, Lowrie? Just curious. I'd keep Scutaro until he falters and then nab Jed if he's out there. What is the 6th offensive category?

I'm just going to say you are not seeing a 20HR season from Cuddyer again; that home park is brutal. His 14 last year is a sign of things to come. Even if he's multi-positioned, I'd sniff around for more production.

From what I see, you want Kimbrel. Do you feel Delmon will be your keeper? I can understand the hangup if so. If not, you are getting a player you want (Kimbrel) and trading away similar numbers. I'm not going to say Delmon isn't good but he went 21/5 last year and nearly hit .300 with 105 RBIs. Since he only walked 28 times, I'm going to say most of his value was derived from RBIs & AVG, two of the most fickle stats you'll ever see, especially with someone that has no plate discipline. Vlad is the only person I've ever seen successful year after year with that type of plate approach. I would not be surprised with a .275/18/85/5 line from Delmon this year. I can say the same about Vlad (minus the 5 steals), but then you're also getting Kimbrel. That's why I would do this trade.

In this league, we have 14 keepers. So the loss of Delmon isn't that great. I'm not too concerned about it, if I'm getting some help with saves. I like Kimbrel a lot.

The one major thing I don't like about the trade is Cano usually bats fifth in the Yankees lineup. That's as good as any position anywhere else. Just being in the Yanks lineup holds a lot of weight, but with these caliber players, I don't think it matters too much.

Given that I take the trade, I'll be giving him Cano for Braun, adding Jose Lopez.. who do I drop? I added Beachy for Romo since the last post, and Mike Minor was already scarfed up. I don't want to lose out on some young players, which I feel will happen to Espinosa if I wait too long. But I also want a solid replacement for Cano, so Lopez. Who gets dropped?

Oh and I mistyped when I said 6x5. It's actually weirdly 7x6, with OBP and total bases added in on the batting side and losses counted with pitchers.

Cuddyer. You really don't need him at all once you get Braun.
