Keeper league expansion draft

Postby callmemaybin » Thu Jan 18, 2018 9:13 am

My 10-team keeper league is looking to expand to 12 teams this year. Each pre-existing owner gets to keep 4 players from last year's team, and the cost is equivalent to either the round the player was drafted last year minus one round, in the case of players being kept for the first time, or minus three, in the case of keepers being kept for multiple seasons. Undrafted players cost an 18th round pick.

The issue is that the new teams are coming in with no new keepers, which puts them at a pretty significant disadvantage when the list of available players in the draft is already severely restricted by the keeper system. That being the case, we're trying to figure out a fair way to institute an expansion draft. Wondering what kind of precedent there is for such a draft, and what a good system might look like.

Like any pro sports draft... You restrict your guys -- 4 in this case -- then they choose their 4 taking turns back and forth...

If you want me to look at your team, post the team. Don't post a link to another site where the team is.
Have you given me all the info I need to judge your team? The number of teams in the league is a good start for the big overall questions.
Is your league H2H? Roto?
I don't know who's on your waivers. Don't just ask me who you should pick up. Give me names to choose from.
If you only have one team, post your team in your signature with the league parameters.
I don't know every single matchup for next week, so if you want me to choose a player for the following week and you think the matchups are important, tell me who they're facing.
There's more than one player with the same last name? Then spell out who you're talking about.
Thanks!

The only thing I would add to Grey's post is that if a team loses a player to expansion they get to protect 1 extra player and can only lose a maximum of 2 players. Also, I'd limit it to protecting 3 players right off the jump instead of 4.

My league has expanded and contracted multiple times and this is the way we've handled it. The absolute worst was jumping from 12 teams to 16 with 25 man rosters. Draft got thin quick.
