Re: The season where "don't pay for saves" is debunked

I guess it depends on league to some extent. I don't know of anyone that would try to draft 5 closers in my setup, but 1-2 rock solid guys? Count me in. The weight these middling guys have for destroying ERA and WHIP is ginormous. And unless Axford's job is in jeopardy, I'd gladly pay for him. These...

Re: The season where "don't pay for saves" is debunked

Now let's not cherry pick the closers that are ranked best at this moment, Grey. The first set of closers off the board in my league were Kimbrel, Papelbon, Rivera, and Axford. Those guys are gold (minus the freak injury to Mo that could happen at any position) right now. The point is that you are p...

Re: The season where "don't pay for saves" is debunked

It proves that reliable closers are more scarce, and hence more valuable. Grabbing guys off waivers is what lead to the mess that is my ERA and WHIP. Doesn't mean that I won't continue to comb the wire, but getting a nice closer to anchor my pen will be a factor during my next draft. Mariano Rivera ...

The season where "don't pay for saves" is debunked

The likes of Aceves, H. Santiago, F. Coredero, B. Lidge, and even A. Cashner have destroyed my ERA and WHIP categories. The teams that are dominating paid for saves and are selling them at fairly high prices (like Uggla for Papelbon). I think the Closerpocalypse is just a sign that one can't afford ...

All this closer turmoil over last week, and I end up with...

Cashner + Gregerson + Walden(via trade). No Frieri, no Cishek, no Cubbies...and I need saves more than anyone. Do any of these fuck-sticks have a bright and happy near-term future?

Re: Ernesto Frieri - future Angels closer?

Dang it, Grey, I dropped Frieri because of that last statement. If he is closing, then I'm stuck with playing a waiting game for Walden that could never end. Does Sciosciapath tend to tell the truth about these matters?

Trade in a vacuum(5X5) - Tulo for S. Castro + R. Zimmerman

I have a low opinion of Zimmerman at this point, but he does have the potential for 20 HR this year with a good average. Hitting 3rd, he should have some other nice counting stats. Did the Nats pay him big for his D?

Re: Trading Strasburg

Holy crap, as a Castro owner, I'd be thrilled to get StratosphereBurger. That's in a vacuum, however. It just seems that Stras can have a significantly greater influence on 3/5 categories (even in a shortened season) than Castro can on BA/Steals/Runs. Then consider that Stras would hold his own in W...

Just dropped Maybin

Picked up Kubel. We have Crisp on waivers, plus some other significant sources of steals and I need HR badly. Didn't seem right to hold Cameron.

Just got accepted, my Darvish for his Lincecum

I mean, why not, eh? If I can't get advice to start him when he's dominant, I might as well get something else for such a performance.
