The Fantasy Baseball War Room is back!  I’m not saying the Fantasy Baseball War Room is back, as in, is a butt.  So, if Sir Mix-A-Lot is reading, I’m truly sorry for the confusion.  Our Fantasy Baseball War Room is one part draft tool, one part fantasy team evaluator, one part fantasy junkie’s s’s and g’s tool, one part holy, two parts smokes, three parts… How many parts is that so far?  Cause it’s only really seven parts total.  I think there’s one part kill-your-day-with-this-war-room-thing-a-maboob-as-a-pinwheel-spins in there too.  Essentially, this helps you practice building a fantasy baseball team.

If you’re unfamiliar with our Fantasy Baseball War Room, it’s a draft tool to help you track where you are at any moment in a draft.  It shows you if you have too many steals, homers… Or if your ERA or WHIP are too low.  Or too high.  Or if your lamb is still rare or should be turned (results vary on lamb).  If you’ve already drafted a team, go into the War Room, enter your team and it shows you exactly how stacked/dreadful the team is.  If you want to practice mocking for your Razzball Commenter League, do that too.  (Fantrax waived $80 fees for us, so go join some Razzball Commenter Leagues!)  If you’re in the middle of a draft, you can filter which guys are left that have the most home runs according to my projections.  Or the most steals, or the most runs or the most whatever (only applicable if “Whatever” is a category in your league).  If you’re in a bind, go into a Warm Room and take a shvitz.  Ah…That’s better!  There might be some bugs in our Fantasy Baseball War Room, just comment here and we’ll look into fixes.  The default projections are mine from the 2018 fantasy baseball rankings.  Also, Rudy’s projections are now up!  They can be found at my ranking page that I just linked to or here:  hitter projections and pitcher projections.  There, you’ll see rankings for every conceivable league (OBP, OPS, Holds, etc).  Anyway, here’s the step by step instructions on how to use the Fantasy Baseball War Room:

  • Sign up. If you get a message that says your email is already in the system and you don’t remember the password, just use a new email or a made-up email.  It doesn’t really matter.  It says to email us to retrieve your password, but I have to be honest, I’m not retrieving shizz.  Repeat, just make a New User and make up a fake email.  We’re not emailing you anyway.
  • Choose what kind of team you want to draft. How many catchers, outfielders, middle infielders, etc. ESPN and Yahoo are for position eligibility. It doesn’t mean you’re playing there. ESPN is 20 games started; Yahoo is 5 started and 10 games played. So that means ESPN and CBS are the same. Or wherever you play that uses 20 or 10 game eligibility.
  • Now as you draft players, click Draft next to their name. If a player is eligible at more than one position, drop down the menu to the position you want them at.  If you can’t find a player, search for them at the top.  As Jeff Francoeur would say, voila!  Or if you’re a Twins fan, Frank Voila!
  • Get as close to the Totals as you can.
  • Wanna start again? Delete the Team, by scrolling to the right of the player search at the top and a down arrow will appear. Click that, then click the pinwheel under ‘Taken” and delete team or sign out. We got pinwheels! Wanna throw your computer out the window from excitement?  Go for it!  For those that missed it in the first bullet point, if you forget your password, Create New User and make up a fake email.  Do not email me.
  • If you get this error page, then your shizz is broke and you need to buy a new computer.  But, if you don’t want to buy a new computer, you should clear your cookies and start again.  Likely what happened is you’re logged into the app still from an old version.  Less likely, you still have the same internet cache from last year and haven’t cleared your cookies once in 12 months.  I’m not judging, Cust kayin’.

Grey, which side do you like in these two keeper trade offers I received for $18 Goldy?

$18 Goldy ($11 Devers to free agency bidding) or $21 Freeman and $16 Dozier

$18 Goldy (Devers to FA) or $21 Harper and $16 Dozier

@MattTruss: Thanks for the invite Truss – appreciate it! I always want to (never played against people who also follow the religion of Razzball), but admittedly spread thin between my 3 leagues preexisting leagues (and day job lawyering). The leagues are all with people I see pretty regularly who will not hesitate to trash talk to oblivion, so gotta stay at the top of them!

Thanks for the War room Guys, always a good companion to my draft!

    Hey Grey,

    H2H 12-team cat. keeper (keep12) balanced stats (R,H,HR,RBI,SB,BB,AVG, OPS,XBH / W,CG,SV,K,GIDP,ERA,WHIP,QS)

Need to pick my 12 Keepers, so far have:
    1B – Paul Goldschmidt
    2B – Brian Dozier
    3B – Nolan Arenado
    SS – Xander Bogearts
    Mi – Trea Turner
    CI – Justin Turner
    CF – Charlie Blackmon
    BN – Christian Yelich

And I need to pick 4 from this list (minimum 3 pitcher, but might lean towards 4):

Andrew McCutchen, Ryan Braun, Sp – Carlos Carrasco, SP – Justin Verlander, BN – James Paxton, SP –Jose Quintana SP – Masahiro Tanaka, SP – Gerrit Cole, SP – Alex Wood

We used to be a 10-team but we are expanding to 12 teams so they will pick their 12 (24 in total) from what is left after all our keepers (ie I won’t have a shot any anyone in that list when it comes time for my 13th pick)

    thanks in advance

So we just took our 14 team league to fantrax. What’s the deal with them not having a compare stats option on their trade page?
Has anyone else notice this? That belongs to fantrax

My league mates are kind of up in arms over it. Its a very trade heavy league and it makes it very hard.

Just trying to wrap my head around this

Just thought you’d like to know that I talked to FanTrax and they will be adding stats to the trade screen. Not sure if you’re on Twitter at all, but hitting them up with this feedback on Twitter or emailing them goes a long way. FanTrax is super responsive to feedback. I know it’s hard to get used to with years of dealing with ESPN and Y! feedback/IT departments but these guys want to make their product better for you. If there’s something you don’t like or a feature you don’t see, reach out to them.

Site is cool and has some cool things, just thought a compare stats option for a trade page should be a very basic tool for every fantasy site.

Thanks for the feed back everyone.

Finished the Catcher tab with the tiers in colors and with a hover over comment of the tier name. Will have this done a lot sooner than I thought. Back to “real” work for now. But it’ll be over to Jay/Truss by Sunday night.

Corey Seager IS NITBSOHL. After going the rehab route for back (makes sense) and elbow (doesn’t make sense) he’s still not 100% with h his throws yet. Not saying not to draft him but if I was playing a league with deeper benches and drafting now I’d have some Insurance there until he shows he’s 100%.

Middle of a snow dynasty draft. Missed out at 3B, so will have to pick between Corey’s bro and Eugenio.

Never been a big Seager fan (who is) and it’s an OBP league where Suarez had a .45 lead on him last year, plus he’s 4 years younger and entering his prime. But is boring consistent Kyle still the better choice? Also count TB where Seager was a bit better last year admittedly.

Need some help from our savior, Grey, Fantasy Master Lothario. 5×5 roto, keep up to 11 forever, supplemental draft after keepers declared in order of finish from previous season so everyone has 11 players, then we auction the leftovers. Finished 9th last year so can wait and see how many players and who the top 8 from last season keep if that impacts decision.

No brainers: Goldy, Arenado, Bregman, Schoop, B. Hamilton, Acuna, Bumgarner.

Keep K. Davis and / or Segura? Nobody else really to debate keeping

      • Viz

        Viz says:
        (link)

@Grey: Yeah, I’ve been wavering on both of them. The top couple teams will have to throw a couple quality players back, at least around the level of Segura and Davis, but the people behind me have some bad teams, so they can keep less than me anyways so I won’t get a chance to get those guys. Thanks!

            (link)

@Grey: Makes sense. I also doubt these rebuilding teams at the bottom will grab Davis before I could take him back if I wanted to anyways, because we’re probably getting 1-2 more quality years from Davis max.

  31. Phil Up Your Crevice says:
    (link)

    Grey, I need you…

Which three of the following would you keep…the number in parentheticals indicates the draft pick I’d have to give up to keep the dude (and K’s is a stat in this roto league):

Kris Bryant (3rd); George Springer (1st…and I have first overall pick); Aaron Judge (24th); Carlos Martinez (23rd); Wilson Contreras (5th); Marcell Ozuna (7th); Javier Baez (5th); Billy Hamilton (6th).

I’m personally thinking Kris Bryant, Aaron Judge and Carlos Martinez. I don’t mind Springer, but not for a 1st round pick. Personally. But thus why I’m asking the Man.

I wish I could get Treat Urner, though.

    • Phil Up Your Crevice says:
      (link)

Sorry, I had to revise something. Carlos Martinez is not a viable keeper. I’d have to give up a 2nd rounder. So fax that jazz. Now my third keeper eats turds.

      • Peacecoast says:
        (link)

@Phil Up Your Crevice: Hamilton in 6, then the rest of your draft you don’t worry about speed except for a few guys.

      (link)

@Phil Up Your Crevice: With the first overall pick you essentially have 4 keepers, if you want….gnaw mean? Not sure how many teams but will there likely be someone better than, let’s say, Bryant to snag with your 1st pick?

      • FuzzyD says:
        (link)

Nevemind, I don’t think I could do it myself. For example Correa (23) is in the same SS tier as Bogaerts (88).

    Hey Grey,
    Keepers are due Sunday.
Wondered if you’d give me your take on my keepers in a 12 team H2H 5X5 league(keep 10). So far my sure things are ARENADO, C.SEAGER, B.DOZIER, M.OZUNA, R.ACUNA, M.BUMGARNER
The next 4 are much tougher. I have crazy depth. Wish it was a dynasty.
    L.CAIN
    N.MAZARA
    M.CONFORTO
    M.CABRERA
    J.SMOAK
    AJ POLLOCK
    J.PAXTON
    A.CHAPMAN
    MCCULLERS
    G.COLE
    K.GILES
    F.RIVERO
    D.SALAZAR
    J.TAILLON
    Z.GODLEY
    What do you think?

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      Pollock, Mazara, Aroldis, Paxton

  38. Packers says:

My 2 cents. You need a 1bm so either Miggy or Smoak, throw one back and see what’s in your draft. You have a floor and upside outfielder already so depending on how you feel I wouldn’t take both Cain and Pollack, maybe one of them and Mazara and Conforto for their upside probably Mazara as Conforto is hurt, Salazar is already hurt, so go with Grey’s rankings for another SP, and Chapman if you want a closer. You will have a chance to get a couple of your guys back plus whoever other guys threw back.

not sure if i’ve seen it on this site but does anyone know how to calculate rounds to dollars? my league is moving to a keeper league where the round the player was selected at becomes their price. I want to be able to figure out surplus value by translating their round to an auction dollar maount

      • danny says:
        (link)

@Grey: not quite. Im looking for what a 5th round pick would be worth, say on average $15, and then the value the player i have is at, say $20, to give me a $5 surplus. i just dont know how much each round is worth money wise to compare those auction values to.

    Hi Grey,

Head to head, 16 team, keep 6. My current keeps are Freeman, Bogaerts, Yelich, Machado, Sale and O. Herrera. I was offered C. Seager and D Gordon for Sale and Bogaerts. Make the deal or hold? Thanks in advance.

12 team 6×6 roto with QS and OPS. Can keep 10 guys. Was offered $29 Dee Gordon for my $7 Devers. U like this? Could really use the speed…. here’s the rest of my keepers. Thanks Grey!

    Freeman $26
    Arenado $40
    Correa $24
    Springer $22
    Devers $7
    Ray $7
    Castillo $3
    Bell $4
    Khris $14
    Knebel $6

        @Grey:

Ok he offered $29 Dee + $5 auction bucks for my Knebel ($6) + Josh Bell ($4). U like that one better?

That would free up room for me to keep $5 Taillon or $2 Giolito. Either of those keepers sound good?

        Thanks!

  42. Packers says:

Grey how much more if any would you put on drafting bats vs. SP’s in a 6×5 league? The extra cat is OPS and we count net wins vs. whip. 12 teams two at each position, 15 bats and 10 pitchers.
The SP’s have K’s and ERA but the wins and net wins are hard to figure, so it’s 6 cats for the hitters, 4 for SP’s and 1 basically for closers.
    2. Are you coming out this week with your pairings post, the one where you draft a guy then take this guy with him?

  43. Mobin Can't Hack It says:
    (link)

16 team dynasty. active rosters are max 28, prospect list max 7. roto. i won this last year but some draft picks (last year was 1st year) weren’t looking good at this point. we’ll do a prospect draft then later a regular online one which is really just preseason waivers. stats are a lot
hitters: 5×5 stuff minus AVG with these added: slugging, OBP, OPS, hits, total bases, steals %
pitchers: 5×5 stuff plus holds, K/BB, K/9 (can’t do K% in yahoo), QS, net saves. 1750 max innings.
    roster:
C zunino (was streaming him and others for a while, ended on good chair if duck duck goose)
    1B swiggy
    2B jose ram (3B)
    3B longo
    SS semien
    MI solarte party (2B/3B/SS)
    CI r-zimm
    LF mancini (1B)
    CF kiermaier
    RF mookie
    OF jew don (RF)
    OF brocktune (LF/RF)
    util hanram
    util d.travis
BN mcmahon (could be moved down of course), bader (same, we have 2 NA slots in addition to prospect list during season, but cannot add new players other than trades to prosepect lists, can send down guys though if they were called up earlier), mini donkey, d.fisher (LF/RF)
SP (5 starters with 1 P slot): wood, cueto, grin and lamet, hamels, morton, peacock, rodon the monster, mccarthy
RP (5 slots) kimbrel, knebel, rivero, neris, morrow, yates (hells yeah this had to be my best drafted RP league last year)

prospect list: i.diaz MIA, c.stewart, meadows, a.reyes (has to be called up very soon into season), k.lewis, collins, fedde

have to drop at least 4 guys from active roster. mcmahon/bader could be sent down. easy drops are yates (although i’d be all closer no holds guys, but that seems like an easy thing to trade out of), mini donkey, mccarthy, but who’s the 4th? only useful SP in FA for online draft would be maeda/richards, but i doubt with pick 16 (even if i drop somebody) i’d get either.

    2. also (probably more for ralph only) i draft 16th in odd prospect rounds, 1st in evens; who’s best guys to drop from that (i’ll later find all the available names from your top 100 prospects)

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      1. Fisher or Bader, see what happens in the spring 2. I don’t follow

      • Mobin Can't Hack It says:
        (link)

@Grey: 2 is probably easily answered by listing who’s available in ralph’s top prospect 100 vs my guys. i’ll get around to that one. trying to trade from my list of closers (gotta be best bullpen in the league, for saves anyway) for some mix of SS/MI (whether prospect or active) or holds guys. possibly closer for holds guy + prospect draft grade pick upgrade.

        • Mobin Can't Hack It says:
          (link)

@Mobin Can’t Hack It: imagine how much better that team would be if:
          1. i took freeman over swiggy last year (damn over trusting current last year’s OPS rater over long term value)
          2. stanton over cueto (SP run, already had a RF mookie, if i didn’t grab cueto there there was a huge dropoff for SP #1 by my next pick). clearly even with hamels falling off getting wood/morton/peacock was a big deal.

          • Grey

            Grey says:

            Damn!

            • Mobin Can't Hack It says:
              (link)

@Grey: of course IF i had gone stanton over cueto i would’ve have grabbed jd mart at his discounted price later, i certainly wouldn’t have needed 3 RF’ers. rather than cueto i probably would’ve had one of these as my ace SP last year exiting draft: carrasco or carmart (yikes that looks worse now, trusted the QS rater). also went cueto when strasburg was around (injury risk)

              • Mobin Can't Hack It says:
                (link)

@Mobin Can’t Hack It: wait, i had that wrong, if i take stanton, then i go carrasco (i miss brocktune at that pick) but could’ve gotten b.hamilton where i got jd mart
                so it’d be
                1B freeman (not miggy)
                OF stanton (not jd mart)
SP #1, carrasco or carmart (not cueto)
                speed OF: b.hamilton (not brocktune)

                ugggg, learning hurts.

For those people browsing here on Saturday night, I’m excited about this year’s excel war room…**coming soon**

Last year I added live ranking based on custom league scoring…this is back again for 2018.

*New for 2018*: addressing some feature requests from last year, tonight I just added sort columns to rank hitters by projected OPB, SLG, and OPS. This should give an edge in those leagues.

All featuring data (translating to rankings) that is live-updated from the steamer data here on Razz…

Still need to update the dashboard tab, and fix formatting glitches that crop up every year with the annual updates, before Version 1 gets published. Stay tuned!

@Rich: actually, yes – I made this work so that the Excel war room can handle up to 25 teams.

Most of the functionality was there before except the key rankings section on the War Room tab, so with that fixed in my soon to be released 2018 version, it looks to be is okay for up to 25 now.

Just emailed Jay the Tiers spreadsheet a min ago.

Had a few questions about some of the names in the top 500 vs. the rankings write-ups that you might want to check out before you post it. I tried to update some of the stuff you’ve updated after yesterday’s moves. And figure everyone using this sheet can just update as guys sign/get traded or whatever. Maybe I’ll update it in a few weeks with any changes you make. Catch up tomorrow about it.

        @Grey:

I’ve got a rudimentary version with most of the functionality from last year’s spreadsheet. The dashboard sheet could easily be swapped out for a more aesthetic one.

Happy to share if put into contact with the others (would rather not post my email publicly)
