Ralph and Halp are taking over the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Podcast, and we do our darndest to make up for the absence of Grey, starting the show by talking about Ralph’s vasectomy, my wisdom teeth, and the Mayweather vs. McGregor fight. We then dive deep into possible September call-ups, discussing Willie Calhoun, Ronald Acuna, Scott Kingery, Franklin Barreto, Tyler Glasnow, Harrison Bader, Stephen Gonsalves, Tyler O’Neill, JP Crawford, Willy Adames, Alex Verdugo, and Walker Buehler as the cream of the crop. We also talk about some underrated prospects who could make an impact, including Hunter Dozier, Jorge Soler, Daniel Palka, Teoscar Hernandez, Jeimer Candelario, Rusney Castillo, and many more. Finally, please make sure to support our sponsor by heading over to RotoWear.com and entering promo code “SAGNOF” for 15% off the highest quality t-shirts in the fantasy sports game (now shipping to Canada). Two questions:
1. Would any of the following be worthwhile to stash and then send down at the end of the year in a 16-team, OPS keeper?
Kingery (already have Calhoun and I. Happ)
F. Whitley (I don’t have any SPs in my MiLB)
L. Sims
2. Is Young Joc worth stashing for next year? Him or Kepler in OPS keeper?
In both scenarios, looking at cutting Kipnis, Schebler, or Swarzak.
Thanks!
@Harry: I would scoop up Kingery and drop Swarzak. Kingery has a chance to be a true difference making fantasy guy in the mold of a prime Chase Utley/Dustin Pedroia type. Whitley is a good pick up too, maybe for Schebler, but that is a closer call. And I’ll take Kepler over Joc right now.
Forgive me if you say it on the podcast, but Grey you are not leaving the show are you (just about to listen :); I’m not sure I could live without hearing your cackle occasionally…..
I love fantasy sports and sarcasm!
@Count de Monetball: Only if I let him during his two hours of sunlight.
Pssst Grey isn’t in my basement dungeon.
It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again…
@Count de Monetball: Sorry to scare you! No, just a one week absence.
Hey handsome.
@Ralph Lifshitz: what’s up co-host
What’s going on right here?
@Grey: hahahah
@Halp: you are both my co-hosts. (I might be misunderstanding your comment)
Does Ralph make you say that?
@Grey: I’m genuinely confused right now
I’m feeling very vulnerable right now, listening to the dulcet sounds of you voice harmonizing in sync with Ralph’s… It sounds like a Cal King mattress with 10,000 thread count sheets moving side to side like a metronome….
@Grey: haha … I’ll take your misery as a compliment! I’m sure you will come back with a vengeance next week. And I just bought a Cal King Mattress. I’m never going back
I’m writing up small talk topics now for our intro. I hope to match your repertoire, while neither of us can pronounce repertoire.
@Halp: hahah … I’m sure it will be our best first ten minutes yet!
@Grey: This is going to be on our joint tombstone/grave plot.
You and Halp got joint grave plots already?!
Drop Albies to stash Calhoun? Current MI options: T.Turner, Cozart, Beckham, Semien. Would be a bench bat, unless they got hot.
Thanks!
@Steve: Isn’t Albies on a 8 game hit streak or something like that? I’d ride that as long as I could. I’m assuming this is a redraft league.
@The Eye of Horus: h2h keeper
@Steve: Then I would take Calhoun.
@Steve: @The Eye of Horus: I would try to find a way to keep both depending on how many keepers
@Steve: Agreed with The Eye of Horus that you should hold Albies. He has been hitting well and Calhoun doesn’t have guaranteed playing time
@Steve: I’d hold on ALbies right now. I want to tell you to drop Semein. He’s hitting .280-.290 in August but not many homers, and Oakland under-utilizes his speed IMO.
Guys–
Just wanted to tell you that I always love your podcasts. I’m waiting until everyone is asleep, then I will go out on the porch in the cool of the evening for some prospect news and all-over wisdom. Thanks a bunch.
Oh, a question. In a 16 team dynasty (where I have 3 non-committee closers already–Diaz, Viz, Herrerra) would you drop Cam Bedrosian or CJ Edwards or neither for a young SP (like Sims)? I’m in good shape to make the playoffs, but not super strong this year.
Thanks, guys.
@The Eye of Horus: Awesome. Much appreciated, The Eye of Horus! If you are going to make the playoffs, you have a shot, so I wouldn’t drop someone getting saves like Bedrosian. But unless I’m mistaken, Edwards isn’t in line for saves, so I think he would be ok to drop for Sims. I definitely like Sims long term in a 16 team Dynasty.
@Halp: I should have mentioned that we count holds as well.
@The Eye of Horus: I think Edwards would likely help you more down the stretch, but I would rank Sims higher in a dynasty ranking (which I guess is basically what your dilemma is). Considering you aren’t going quite all in this year even though you are in the hunt, I think I would prefer Sims. You can stream holds in the playoffs if you need to with a spare bench bat or something.
@Halp: Thank you. I’m a sucker for high-K relievers, so it’s tough to let CJ go.
@The Eye of Horus: I really like him too. I would try to keep both of them. Any other cut options?
@Halp: Foltynewicz would be the other option, but I’d like to see what he can do. I could also drop Delino Deshields, but I grabbed him for some quick steals. Of course, he has none since I picked him up a week ago… It ALWAYS happens this way with DeDeShe.
@The Eye of Horus: haha … I really do like Sims, but I might be changing my mind. Edwards is very valuable in a holds league long term too.
