Not sure if you’ve noticed but last year’s ROY runner-up, Jason Heyward, has been AWFUL in May – 2 for 28 with 13 Ks. Now it comes out that he’s got a sore shoulder and his right hand and forearm have become uncomfortably numb.  Hopefully they can give him just a little pin prick that will make him feel better.  Best case is he misses a couple days.  Worst case is amputation via tomahawk.  I think he can avoid the worst case but you never know…Heyward….Hey Ward, something’s wrong with the Beaver.  Ward and Beaver’s last name was Cleaver.  Cleaver is the white man term for tomahawk…..oh oh whoa-a-ho!

Other fantasy baseball news…

Brett Myers – Cloud:  6 ER and 10 baserunners in the first 2 innings.  Extremely faint silver lining:  He threw 4 scoreless innings afterward with 4 baserunners and ended the game with 8 Ks.  The truth is somewhere in between “gumdrop Himalaya.”

Brian WilsonGot his 3rd win in 5 days.  You think Grey and I are bitter that it seems like every reliever that we don’t own has 2 or 3 vulture wins?  You couldn’t handle the bitterness!

Derek Jeter – 2 for 4 with a SB.  He’s now hitting .283.  I’m not saying he’ll be usable this year but he really does seem to love proving critics wrong.  Except for critics that bemoan he only bangs hot chicks.

Homer BaileyTwo straight winning starts against the Astros with a sub-1.00 ERA/WHIP and 10 Ks.   I really think this could be the year where he has a month of promising starts in between getting shelled and being hurt.  Oh wait, he did that in 2009 and 2010 too.  Well, he’s traditionally been an awfully slow starter (as in 8.00+ ERA, 2.00ish WHIP in his first starts of April/May) so maybe he’s turning over a new leaf.  If you need an SP, might as well take a flyer.  Just bench him after his first bad start and drop him after his second consecutive bad start.

Tim Lincecum8 shutout innings with 9 Ks but couldn’t get the win.  Has anyone figured out how he’s actually gained fastball speed this year (92.9 MPH this year vs. 92.4 in 2009 and 91.3 in 2010)?  Aren’t you supposed to come back weaker after pitching a full regular + post-season?  Couldn’t he share this knowledge with Phil Hughes and Javier Vazquez for humanitarian reasons?  Suffice it to say, if Lincecum is throwing 93 MPH, I’d say he’s the best pitcher in fantasy baseball.  (You want to argue Halladay, fine…but Lincecum pitches in a cozier park and has a better K-rate)

Ian Kennedy – Matched Lincecum zero for zero for 8 innings getting 8 Ks along the way.  That’s now a 5 start run where Kennedy has thrown 36 innings of sub 2.00 ERA with nearly a K per inning.  Hear that sound – it’s the buy low window slamming against the pane.  (Gloating moment:  traded Brandon League + David Aardsman for Kennedy in one of our expert leagues last week.)

Rajai Davis – 2 SBs.  For the love of SAGNOF!

Geovany Soto – Left the game in the first inning with a left groin strain.  He’ll have an MRI on his groin tomorrow.  I wonder if they make him get in the big MRI machine or if he just has to thrust into it.  Either way, I’m thinking a groin injury is bad for a catcher and he’ll either miss a week or go on the DL.  In shallow leagues, I’d consider dropping Soto and start playing catcher roulette on the waiver wire.

Troy TulowitzkiHit his 9th HR but is just 4 for his last 42.  If you’re going to be a binge hitter, I guess playing at a field named after a beer is fitting.

Ted Lilly – Managed his first solid road start and win in 4 tries with 2 ERs/5 baserunners/4 Ks in 6 IP at Pittsburgh.  Until proven otherwise this year, I’d consider Lilly like an honorary Hodgepadre.  Start him at home and very cautiously in pitcher-friendly matchups but sit him otherwise.  Fun stat – in 2009-2010 with Chicago and LA, Lilly has a 0.94 home WHIP (compared to about a 1.22 WHIP on the road which still isn’t bad…but his road WHIP going into this start was 1.91).

Francisco Liriano – Rest easy, Johnny Vander Meer.  Your consecutive no-hitter streak is safe.  Liriano resembled the pitcher he was every other start this year vs. the no-hitter – giving up 4 ER and 6 baserunners in only 3 innings.  To be fair, Liriano was sick going into the start – he had made the mistake of watching the Twins offense during his off-days.

John DanksNow 0-6.  Danks for nothing!  This was his worst start of the year:  5 IP/6 ER/12 baserunners.  But in his other 7 starts, he’s managed 6+ innings, 4 or less unearned runs, and 36 Ks in 47 IP.  So I’d hold onto him or consider him a buy low candidate.

Brett AndersonLast night against Texas:  4 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 10 baserunners.  April 30th start against Texas – 5 IP, 13 baserunners, 7 ER.  Against everyone else, much much better.  Moral of story:  Don’t mess with Texas.

Roger Bernadina – Got a chance to hit leadoff as Desmond and Espinosa have been awful there.  Went 0-for-3 but managed 2 runs and a SB.  So RB didn’t bring the roast beef but at least provided some horsey sauce.

Chris Carpenter – A depressive win over Chicago with 15 baserunners and 4 ER in 7 innings.  This is his third straight start giving up 10 or more hits.  A Carpenter hasn’t been responsible for this many hits since the 1970’s.  Carpenter will be better than this but I’d trade him if you can find someone who’ll focus on his 2009-2010 stats when determining value.

Rene Tosoni – The Twins rookie OF hit a HR in his 2nd start in the last 5 games.  Even if gets the starting role, he’s a marginal player so don’t let him haunt your dreams like he did to Guy Pearce’s character in LA Confidential.

Javier Vazquez – On bereavement leave.  Mourning the loss of his fastball.

Ike DavisThe Mets best hitter so far this year strained his calf.  The Mets training crew ran to Ike but he slapped them when they tried to help.  Late word is that he may play tomorrow but a strained calf usually means a stint on the DL so I’m skeptical.  A strained calf for the Mets usually means a denial of the injury, then a denial on the severity of the injury, then a 60-day DL stint where we find out it’s a torn calf, a denial that it’s a torn calf, and then a father-in-law gets beat up in front of children.

  1. Casey Blake's Beard says:

10 team H2H 6×6. Need AVG/OBP/HR, looking for bench strength. Drop the just picked up and now injured Luke Scott for Freeman, LaPorta, Belt, Rizzo, Moreland?

    Drop Danny Espinosa for Bernadina?

  2. hideousmutants says:

I know he’s a hodgepadre but is anyone thinking Stauffer might be more than that and you’re starting him for a day game @Mil?

  3. yanks4life says:

@all Start any of the following pitchers tomorrow; Gio vs. Texas, Wandy vs. Cincy, or Baker vs Det.?

  4. tourinct says:

Ha! I was offered Carpenter for Posey overnight!

  5. Tony says:

francisco liriano has almost single handedly destroyed a month and a half of baseball for me….

I’ve pitched him every game BUT the no hitter, which wasn’t even a great outting considering it was a no hitter.

    I’m Not even kidding!

  6. VinWins

    VinWins says:

    Good stuff!

Irrelevant to fantasy, Rajai had 0 steals thru 9, then stole 2nd & 3rd in the 10th, scoring the winning run on a David Cooper SF.

Cooper also hit his 1st major league HR.

“A Carpenter hasn’t been responsible for this many hits since the 1970?s. ” – Probably the first time I got a musical reference on this site!!

  7. Cheese

    Cheese says:

I’ve been offered Nelson Cruz for Justin Morneau. Should I take it? I can slide Sanchez to 1B, Smoak to CI, and Cruz to Util. 16 team 8×8 (BB, SLG, H) with no bench.

  8. I was wondering why the vet called to cancel my dog’s teeth cleaning for today. Now I understand he’s the specialist the Mets are calling in to check on Ike. The vet, not my dog… that would be crazy. What, you’d call in a person doctor to check out an injury to a calf? That’s what I thought.

/note to self: stop owning Mets and O’s no matter how low they’re about to sell for at auction (I’m looking at you, $4 Wieters)

  9. IgnatiusJReilly says:

    @any/all commenters

8×8 h2h league,I have a pretty strong staff so Im not necessarily desperate for W’s or any other pitching stats,so….

should I start Baker against Detroit-who have really been pounding the ball recently?

  10. Malacoda says:

    Good stuff Rudy.

Anybody that started Liriano was asking for trouble. Going into the night he had 20k/24bb ratio. He even walked 6 batters in the no hitter (vs. 2k), which signified it was the luckiest no hitter ever. It definitely didn’t indicate he had turned some kind of corner.

  11. Tony says:

@Malacoda: i was thinking “hey maybe even tho it was an ugly no hitter it was a confidence booster”

NOPE. I shoulda threw his ass to the waiver wire or benched him. STUPID STUPID STUPID.

  12. Chuckles Tiddlesworth says:

Pink Floyd “The Wall” and the Carpenters. Your and Grey’s rare references to post-80s rap must be due to your sons leaving their Sirius stations on in the Blazer.

  13. ThePoonTycoon says:

    so, anyone throwing peavy today?

  14. Wilsonian says:

@ThePoonTycoon: I probably would, just for shits and giggles. The Halos’ bats don’t necessarily strike fear into my eyes, so I wouldn’t blame anyone for tossing him out there and seeing what he can do.

  15. Commish Cauda says:

Drop Jason Bay for Bernadina in a H2H-Points League?

  16. ThePoonTycoon says:

@Wilsonian: yeah, i am between activating him for for the start or streaming stauffer

  17. xopchipili says:

who wins: Pujols and Feliz vs Bautista, Butler and Axford

  18. ThePoonTycoon says:

@xopchipili: i’d want pooholes/feliz. but then again i am still waiting on the bottom to fall out on bautista.

  19. mets fan says:

    Start stauffer today?

  20. ThePoonTycoon says:

util fill in: trumbo or helton?

  21. ThePoonTycoon says:

@mets fan: i’m leaning towards starting him and holding off on activating peavy until after his start

  22. Ian says:

Mini Mini Donkey and Pedro Alvarez have been taking turns taking a dump on my CI slot in an NL only league. I think it’s time to (finally) give up on one in order to grab Mr. Domonic Brown. I’m thinking I’ll go with the upside of Alvarez. Agree?

  23. MattW says:

Do you agree with Wilsonian and Poon about starting Peavy? It seems like he was strong in his rehab starts, but they’re bushleague players and he hasn’t pitched in nearly a year.

  24. pubscout says:

storen v. anibal sanchez. if the season started now, who has more value going forward?

  25. ThePoonTycoon says:

@MattW: fwiw, i can see starting peavy, but i’m not starting him in the RCL league. i’m leaving him DL’d until tomorrow, and i’m streaming stauffer instead.

  26. mets fan says:

@ThePoonTycoon: Ya stauffer is the only hodgepadre im willing to start on the road

  27. Probable Party Starter says:

“but Lincecum pitches in a cozier park and has a better K-rate”. Cust ‘kayin…I don’t think cozier is the word you’re looking for there. Comfier, perhaps?
Between Lind spazzing and Soto’s crotch, I’ve been thrust into doing the lambada with Ianetta and the Markakis Pinata. Ugh.

  28. ThePoonTycoon says:

@pubscout: i’d take storen, but kinda entirely depends on your needs. if you are loaded at RP and need a SP, and anibal is the best you can get, not a bad deal. if you are loaded at SP and need saves, and can swing anibal for storen, not a bad deal.

  29. Wilsonian says:

@ThePoonTycoon: I honestly trust Peavy today more than Stauffer.

  30. ScottyM says:

Does anyone else worry that Jason Heyward will be to MLB what Greg Monroe is to the NBA. A guy with advanced skills, maturity and unfortunately body structure for his age. He already has the back issue at 22 years old and now a shoulder. If he can’t stay healthy at 22, at 36 he is going to make “glass” Chipper look like the Iron Horse.

  31. Wilsonian says:

@Wilsonian: but that’s just because I don’t like the whole Hodgepadre mentality, simply because every time I try it out, I get shellacked.

  32. ThePoonTycoon says:

@Wilsonian: fair enough. fwiw, stauffer has been better on the road, and having both fielder and braun on the same fantasy team, i know all too well that for the past week and a half or so, the brewers offense has been struggling.

  33. AL KOHOLIC says:

@MattW: grey has said he would prefer sitting guys coming off long absences, including peavy tonight

  34. Wilsonian says:

@ThePoonTycoon: yeah, I’ve noticed that they forgot how to score. Apparently Prince doesn’t want my Cubs to throw $180 mil at him. My personal preference is to start Peavy, but I understand why someone wouldn’t. We should revisit this tomorrow after they combine for 4 IP and 16 ER…

  35. Exactly says:

    Hey Rudy,

Tabata has definitely slowed down, drop him for Brantley in a 12-team mixed?

  36. AL KOHOLIC says:

wow, espn says that the walk halladay issued to josh johnson last night was the 1st time he has ever walked an opposing pitcher, johnson scored in the inning also

  37. Tony says:

Mitch Moreland doesn’t get any love from anybody. He has OF eligibility in Yahoo leagues and should post a decent AVG, good OBP (for the OBP leagues), and perhaps sniff 25 HR type power. Those are good OF numbers where I’m from.

His first stint in the bigs last year wasn’t great, but a minor league line of .313/.383 while not striking out at an incredible rate leads me to believe that he won’t have any drop off from what he’s doing now.

  38. Rodger-Dodger says:

You guys still rollin’ with Liriano missed-out on your last chance to pull-out of a tailspin I think. After his no-no, I worked hard to make a move and my prayers were answered when a guy in my league took him in a swap for the then-also-poorly-pitching Yovani-G! HIS next game he lulled me to sleep with his sweet-sweet saxophone (I think he taught his brother, Kenny Gallardo, everything he knows, and he’s done alright for himself!). I love this game!

  39. the grate one says:

is it time to get off the niese wagon? or do you see a some progression coming….thanks

  40. ThePoonTycoon says:

@Tony: i love some moreland (mostly cause he went to my alma mater). but i must point out that that last year in 147 ABs he hit 9 HRs and had 25 RBIs from the bottom of the lineup. give him 450 ABs and thats 25ish HRs and 75ish RBIs, so i wouldn’t say he was bad by any means last year. also, he was probably the rangers best hitter in the playoffs last year (.389 avg in the ALCS and .462 in the WS).

  41. Black Beard says:

    Standard league that counts OPS:

    Espinosa or Hill?

    Iannetta or Soto?

  42. AubreyHuffingGlue says:

Is Hart a buy low? I have a surplus of speed … If I can pull off a trade, who would you rather have — Tabata or Hart?

  43. CL says:

how do we feel about Garza & Sanchez in their home parks today? I love the K’s, but hate the WHIP…

  44. Quinn says:

12 team 5×5 Roto league. I am sporting 11s and 12s in all Offensive cats, but hurting for pitching. Am I getting a decent deal if I trade D. Wright and J. Sanchez for F. Her? Always a little wary about trading for a starter.

  45. ThePoonTycoon says:

@Quinn: not a decent deal. wirght hasn’t gotten hot yet and will help get you points back in the offensive cats in a hurry. you’d be trading a 1st round pick and a decent mid-tier SP for a top tier SP.

  46. CL says:

pick one for my holds league:

Boggs (STL), Mike Dunn (FLA), or Rodney (LAA)

All have decent K-rates, but Boggs & Dunn have the better WHIP.

  47. Will says:

who is the best young outfielder to have on your team for this year, but more importantly as a keeper?

  48. VinWins

    VinWins says:

I have posted an updated RCL stats summary in the RCL Forums. It shows the high, low, and average numbers in each category.

There is also a link to a page with the stats for all 456 RCL teams.

  49. ThePoonTycoon says:

@Will: kinda depends on how far in the future you are looking. for the next 4-5 years, i’d say ryan braun. looking over the next 10 years, it’s fuzzier with guys like bruce and rasmus and dread pirate and heyward still in their young 20s and developing.

  50. @Casey Blake’s Beard: I’d take Moreland as bench – partially for the 1B/OF flexibility. I don’t like having backup who only fill one lineup slot so I’d drop Espinosa for Bernadina.

@hideousmutants: I do think Stauffer is showing signs of being more than a Hodgepadre but we’re benching him in our league @MIL.

@yanks4life: I’d start Wandy and Baker unless you have a severe innings cap. I’d bench Gio @TEX.

    @tourinct: Ha!

@Tony: We hate Vazquez in the same way except he hasn’t thrown a no-hitter (it’s in an NL-only league where you can’t bench guys who are on a MLB 25-man roster).

@Cheese: Yes! Take Nelson Cruz for Justin Morneau. I’d take Jose Cruz Jr. for him at this point.

@Chuckles Tiddlesworth: Grey is the rap fan. I’m rock. The Carpenters predate me but I know my musical history. My musical references have only just begun!

@ThePoonTycoon: Sure. I don’t own him anywhere but if you’re feeling lucky.

    @Malacoda: Thx.

@VinWins: Thx. Almost wrote Cooper up but he’s pretty irrelevant. He’s like Dan Johnson part deux.

@Commish Cauda: Eh. I probably would just to be rid of Bay. Wouldn’t want him on any team as he hasn’t shown any life since leaving the BoSox.

    @xopchipili: Pulols and Feliz.

    @mets fan: No.

    @ThePoonTycoon: Trumbo.

@Ian: Yes, I’d drop Ian Stewart or Pedro for Domonic. I’d keep Alvarez because he has playing time when healthy.

@MattW: I probably wouldn’t start Peavy but the Angels aren’t the scariest of teams.

    @pubscout: Storen.

@ScottyM: I don’t follow the NBA too closely but I see your point. Tough to say but I generally prefer my phenoms to be healthy when they are young.

@Exactly: Tabata has definitely cooled. I’d want Brantley for the next week or so but Tabata for the full season. Bench Tabata if you have room. if not, I can see making the move.

@AL KOHOLIC: I was watching the Florida telecast of that game when he did it. You can hear him curse after the walk.

@the grate one: There was a Niese wagon? He’s not ownable in my eyes outside of deep leagues.

@AubreyHuffingGlue: I’d rather have Hart. Cheaper to get SAGNOF in free agency than potential 25/90.

@CL: I’d start Garza and Sanchez at home.

    @Quinn: I don’t love the J. Sanchez kicker. Wright-F. Her is a fair trade.

  51. Will says:

@ThePoonTycoon: looking only next 3-5 years. My current OF is Bruce, Stubbs, Crawford, CarGo, and Sizemore. I am trying to figure out a package that would help me this year, but also in the future. Last year I traded away Braun for Brian Wilson and Reyes. It helped me win $150 and my league last year, but I wish I still had him.

  52. Trevor

    tggq21 says:

    Bench Gio @ Texas?

  53. mj says:

Pick 1: Correia, McClellan, Piniero, Arrieta

  54. Wilsonian says:

@Will: of those guys, I think you’ve got two of the young studs at OF not named Ryan Braun in CarGo and Bruce.

  55. Casey Blake's Beard says:

@Rudy Gamble: Thanks much for the earlier response.

    Bernadina over Scott, Bourgeois, Snider?

  56. mets fan says:

@Rudy Gamble: For my last pitcher slot my 2 choices are stauffer @mil or mccarthy at home vs white sox which 1 would you go with?

  57. EG says:

Benched Mini Donkey in favor of Ryan Roberts a little while back, but need some SAGNOF now. You think it’s safe to drop Roberts? I didn’t (and don’t) really have much expectation for Roberts, just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing out on any potential here…

    For SAGNOF, Bernadina or Borbon?

  58. Alcesto says:

Yo Grey (or Rudy), rank ’em, if you would:

    kuroda at the ‘rats
wandy at home vs. the reds
    volquez at the l’astros

1450 inning limit, I’m 10 innings above the pace, 5×5 mixed roto.

  59. Hi Rudy –great roundup today.

In my 20-team roto league I’m in good shape on saves but need starting pitching (mostly because I can’t trade, drop, or start Liriano). I have both Padilla and Broxton and am trying to trade them as a pair (lock up the LAD saves for this season) for another starter and to free up my DL spot.

Right now, my starters are Scherzer, Volquez, Chacin, Beachy, and the aforementioned Mr. Liriano.

How would you rank the following options in order of preference: Peavy, Gio, Jaime Garcia, Zach Britton, McClellan? At what point on the list does the return become too low for what I’d be giving up?

Oh, now that I’ve mentioned Volquez — he’s been killing my WHIP all year but (not withstanding giving up 4 ER in 5 innings earlier this season), he has amazing career numbers against the Astros and they’re even better @HOU. Would you start him?

    Many thanks.

  60. mets fan says:

Grey Stauffer @mil or mccarthy at home vs chi sox?

  61. xopchipili says:

    @Rudy Gamble:
Thanks guys. Deal was accepted an hour ago, I was the side getting Pujols. Feelin good about it!

  62. Wiley says:

Time to cut bait on Chapman in a holds league? I also have Kuo, to double up on my RP struggles. I figure Kuo could turn it around still, not so sure that Chapman’s command will come around. I figure to grab Masset, or perhaps take a gamble on Chris Sale or Joe Nathan recovering.

  63. william says:

@Grey – Julio Borbon, Michael Bourn, or Rajai Davis?

  64. The Spaceman says:

    @ Rudy

    Cheers Rudy! If you’re the man today, can I shoot you a quick question? Top 2 of the following (Deep stats, 18 team, holds);

Padilla, Sale, Aaron Crow, Marc Rzepczynski, Jansen.

    Your time is appreciated sir!

    – The Spaceman

  65. @Grey: Hi Grey — just a clarification on your answer to my question a few minutes ago. Do you mean that among Peavy, Gio, Jaime Garcia, Zach Britton, and McClellan the only one your’d accept for Padilla/Broxton is Peavy? Did I list them more or less in the correct order from best to worst?

  66. Brandon says:

    Bernadina, Brantley, Joyce.

    Pick 2, in order.

(They will be filling in for Tabata and Pedro Alvarez for the next week or so)

Also, pick 2 to keep long term. In order preferably!

  67. The Spaceman says:

    @ Grey

If you’re taking over my man, your time is appreciated as well. I don’t know what to dig more; Rudy’s hair or your ‘stache.

    Much love to both!

    -Spaceman out

  68. CL says:

holds league, which one would people rock:

Boggs (STL), Mike Dunn (FLA), or Rodney (LAA)

All have good K-rates, but Boggs & Dunn have better WHIP.

  69. agarthered says:

Ugh in the past week i’ve had Lind, Heyward, and Soto get injured.

Would you drop Soto for Ianneta or Arencibia?

  70. theguarantee says:

@AubreyHuff – Owing Braun, Gomez and McGehee I watch as much Brewers as I can…and Hart doesn’t really look good to me. He could be good, but did you watch him rounding third two nights back? Looked really out of shape and laboring. Still like his upside, especially in that offense, but something to consider.

  71. DHill Dragons says:

Not sure how many have noticed but Howie Kendrick now has 2 or more hits in 11 of the last 15 games (14 starts). Not bad for a guy that is keeping the seat warm for Chase Utley until he returns.

Grey, start the hot Jay Bruce (1-20 lifetime against Wandy Rodriguez)
or go with Starlin Castro/Lowrie/Abreu or the ballsiest choice
Kelly Johnson (8-14 with 2 HR’s vs. Jonathan Sanchez) at Utility today?

  72. Rob says:

How do you solve a problem like Soto:

    (1) Do you drop Soto for any of these shmohawks: Barajas, Doumit, Arencibia, Conger, Ramos
    (2) Alternatively do you lose any of Lowrie or Joyce

(my DL slot is taken with Lidge and I also Bourgeois on DL whom I hope can take over 2B from Hill eventually and provide me with steals)

Or do I ride him out.

Or look for a trade with someone that needs SP. I have excess of SP and could trade Anderson, T. Hudson, or Cain in right deal

  73. Lob Ball says:

Enough is enough. The Os got 20 hits last night and Reynolds was 0 for 6. See ya. I replaced him at CI with Pena. Tell me I’m stupid.

  74. ThePoonTycoon says:

woohoo! $1 nats tix with $1 dogs for monday night. sometimes it pays off to have a shitty baseball team in town.

  75. Doc Pounder says:

Need a fill in for Soto.
    Y Molina
0 DL slots left. Should I cut Soto or Lohse?

  76. Eng says:

@agarthered: Soto and Heyward are like Cruz and Kinsler, oft injured and when they’re not they’re just about to be.

As goes Halladay vs. Lince for fantasy, give me Roy. Lincecum doesn’t get enough run support from that awful offense. I’d also rather have League than Kennedy, but I suppose it’s not exactly apples to apples.

  77. Eng says:

@Doc Pounder: Drop Lohse, he’s garbage.

  78. Wilsonian says:

Rox/Mets game PPD today. To be made up tomorrow.

  79. Sir says:

Should I offer my Liriano for his Pedro Alvarez?

I have really good pitching, and lots of them, while my 3rd base is my weakest spot – currently manned by Valencia as I wait for Rollins to come off the DL (for a week or two, and then go back on the DL).

It really comes down to who is more likely to bounce back, Liriano or Alvarez, eh?

  80. tHe sHiT says:

@Rudy Gamble: Start Garza vs STL and Gio Gonzalez @ TEX?

  81. @Grey/Rudy. Thanks boys. Love the Javier blurp—funny shizz.
A few choose one questions (ROS):
    Cueto or Kennedy
    D. Brown or D. Murphy
    Ike or Yo Gabby Gabby

    As always, thanks guys.
P.S. I was at the Angels game last night and we set a world record for the most people wearing wrestling masks (give-away). Good times.

  82. Adam says:

Who do you guys think end up with more saves this year, Padilla or Kuo?

  83. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Sir: Prefer Alvarez.

    @tHe sHiT: Garza

    @Dr. Stats: Kennedy, Brown, Davis…Someone should’ve drop-kicked Scioscia.

  84. Chinaski says:

    Hey Grey,

Would you start Garza vs. STL?

  85. Whiskey Diet says:

    Grey and Rudy what’s good?

    12 Team H2H,

Boesch, Bernadina and Trumbo are available.

Lose Markakis, Adam Jones (both UTIL guys) or Arroyo for any of them or hold?

  86. Doc Pounder says:

You guys are GREAT !! Now pick it up and start taking the Yoohoos in F&F to the woodshed.

  87. @Grey—no doubt Scioscia deserves the camel-clutch treatment at a minimum for:
    (a) man-crushing on Mathis and ignoring Hank
    (b) actually putting Izturis in the three hole
    (c) not starting Trumbo everyday

P.S. I’ve been to a 5 or 6 games this year and Torii Hunter really does look like he’s on the decline…in a big way….I’d trade him for a Gatorade right now.

  88. AnotherFalstaff says:

    Macier becoming relevant?

scottysizemore, a.hill, darwin barney, maicer for my 2b job?

  92. MackeySasser says:

Deep Keeper league, more value in 2011 and beyond.

Categories: R, SB, AVG, HR, RBI, BB

    Fowler or Brantley.

Seems like a coin flip but while I like Fowler’s run totals, he is a K machine.

  93. Gavin says:

Drop Fowler for Bernadina? Never really got all the Fowler love. He doesn’t even run.

  94. jongenes says:

Growing tired of Reynolds. Playing Aviles in 3B.

Would you drop Reynolds to stash Freese on the DL and play Rolen (while he lasts)

  95. Wiley says:

Holds and Saves league, but I have more of a need for saves at the moment. This the right ranking order:

    Kuo, Masset, Guerrier, Nathan, Sale?

  96. Wake Up says:

Is Rudy’s real name Dan Brown?

Rudy Ruettiger’s real first name = Dan
    Rudy is constantly motivating us
    Motivation is an art
Brown, a color used by artists(when mixing Grey, too much red will give you Brown)
Da Vinci’s self-portrait was in Red chalk

    Grey = The Holy Grail!

  97. Commish Cauda says:

Grey…From reading above, you like Bourbon, Bernadina and Brantley, in that order.

Where do Fowler and Bay fit in? I own these two but am thinking of dropping Bay for one of the Speedy B’s.

    16-team h2h-points league…K=-1, BB=1, SB=3

  98. Doc Pounder says:

    Drop Raburn for Bernadina?

  99. Grey

    Grey says:

    @jongenes: I’d hold.

    @Wiley: Kuo, Nathan, Sale, Guerrier….

@Wake Up: About time someone put the clues together.

    @Commish Cauda: I wouldn’t drop Bay in a 16 team league.

  100. Stinky Cheese Man says:

Who do you like better going forward.. Justin Upton or Carl Crawford?

  101. Commish Cauda says:

Whether I hold on to Bay or not, I still need OF help.

Trade JJ Hardy for Mitch Moreland? Elvis Andrus would then be my only SS.

  102. 3FingersBrown says:

Hey Wolf, thanks for the WHIPlash. Now I’ve gotta start Peavy tonight.

    That’s it. I’m burning my triple-wolf-howling-at-the-moon t-shirt!

  103. Wilsonian says:

Do you still not have much love for Porcello?

Do you like him more than Erik the Bedard or McDonald?

  104. Wilsonian says:

Oh, and my offer of Wright/Zobrist for Cano/Bruce was shot down, as expected. He said he may counter with something, but not sure what.

  105. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Wilsonian: Porcello doesn’t K enough guys. I don’t like him more.

  106. pjtres says:

grey, how would you rank these (bleh!) SP going forward?

    niese, morton, blanton, hammel, pavano

  107. Grey

    Grey says:

    @pjtres: Morton, Niese…

  108. bravo says:

    Please rank these pitchers:

    T. Wood
    H. Bailey
    C. Lewis

They are pitchers currently available to pick up.

  109. Wilsonian says:

    Jesus Gio…Thanks big guy!

  110. Mr2Bits says:

Sweet Gio, you just left an upper-decker on my team you asswipe. Going to take me all week to get that shit off my ERA/WHIP. Whats even worse is you gave up a fucking slam to Moreland who the douch I’m playing this week has.

  111. dingbat says:

    Two questions:

    1) Am I crazy for considering dropping Reynolds for Mitch Moreland? I am, right?

    2) I’ve been offered Crawford for Grady Sizemore and Josh Beckett. If I’ve got pitching to spare, I make that trade, right?

  112. herschel says:

@Grey: 5 x 5 roto, luke scott or moreland? does moreland get enough abs when cruz gets back to start in weekly league?

  113. Yikes! I just made a trade offer (discussed in this forum earlier) of Padilla and Broxton for Gio. Seeing that Gio got slapped around so severely in Arlington, should I cancel that deal?

  114. Chinaski says:

Gio single handedly killed my opponent today lol

  115. Nuke LaDouche says:

I am in the bottom 3rd of every league I am in for ERA and WHIP. These turds better get it turned around soon.

  116. Mr2Bits says:

Oh if there is a God, he will keep it pouring all day in Arlington so the game is canceled and the stats are wiped!

  117. Steve says:

Grey – yesterday you recommended Swish for my RF spot with Heyward out. I left Moreland off the list of availables. Go with the hot guy or stick with the proven one?

  118. Wilsonian says:

So I made the offer of Wright for Holliday and this is the text I got back: “You are tempting me with one of my favorite players, but my desire to have Holliday’s babies trumps David Wright.” Told you he uses a Holliday FatHead as a comforter.

BUT, he did profess his love for Mr. Wright, so do I include a swap of starting pitchers, as well, or do I shoot for someone like Ad. Gonzo instead?

He’s got Ubaldo, Grienke, Morrow, Garza as the only pitchers that I kinda sorta like. I would be willing to part with Gio, Bills, Pineda, Norris, Beachy, and to a lesser degree, D. Hudson.

  119. nyydj2 says:

@Mr2Bits: Same exact thing here, me with Gio, my opp with Moreland. Need a shutout from Hommy tonight just to bring the ERA down to 5.00.

  120. Wilsonian says:

@Mr2Bits: as no disrespect to any Native American Razzball commenters out there, I just did a rain dance in the hallway at work trying to keep this game off the boards!

  121. nyydj2 says:

Time to defend me moniker here a bit…..have had it since 97, lol. Anyways, for all the talk of Jetes being through and all, the one team I have him on is in a hell of a lot better shape with his 5th round numbers than a team I have Hanley on with his 3rd overall numbers. Cust kayin….

  122. The Burghler says:

Head to Head 7×7 with ops, ks

Tabata or Hosmer for my util spot?

  123. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Grey: just traded marmol for greinke and rauch. i already have frank,k-rod,kimbrel and jansen, but i needed another stud pitcher for the long haul, look good to you?

  124. nyydj2 says:

@Wilsonian: Wow, just checked out the radar, the fantasy Gods may smile upon us yet with this mess from Hurricane Gio. Severe thunderstorm warnings til 6 PM, it’s going to be nasty there for quite a while.

  125. dingbat says:

@Wilsonian: I’d try to buy low on Matt Garza, offering Gio Gonzalez in the hopes that today’s bomb doesn’t scare him off.

  126. Nuke LaDouche says:

Volquez goes 4 strong innings again! That guy is a workhorse! Every time he gets the ball he goes a little bit farther than a middle reliever. So impressive.

  127. MattW says:

@Wilsonian: I wouldn’t overreach for Holliday, especially since you’re selling low on Wright since he has yet to heat up. Unless you see a SP trade that you like, that the other guy feels like he wins, I think you have to target someone else or wait. That being said, do you think Wright for Holliday is a good tradeoff if I have SBs to spare, but need slugging.

Another thing to consider is the shortage of 3B, which should make Wright even more valuable to some managers in your league…

  128. @Grey: Your less than emphatic “sure” response to someone asking whether to bench Gio this afternoon swayed me just prior to first pitch. For this sir, I thank you kindly.

  129. AL KOHOLIC says:

tell you guys something, the best thing about watching cincy play everyday is watching joey votto hit,he will win a batting title or so in the future

  130. Mr2Bits says:

I’m trying to remember, what are the conditions for them to cancel a game that’s already started?

  131. Wilsonian says:

@Mr2Bits: I’m not sure what it is. I’m hoping these storms are enough to get the job done, though.

  132. Mr2Bits says:

Hell yes. I checked and they look pretty nasty with tornado and severe weather warnings going through tonight. Lets hope those nasty clouds sit right where they are at. Tornado’s would not be cool but the scare of them would also help.

  133. Eng says:

@Wilsonian: It’s still early. My money says the game will finish since they only need to squeeze in one more inning. 5 innings makes it official, or 4 1/2 if the home team is leading.

  134. AL KOHOLIC says:

    @zombie: awesome move,

  135. Mr2Bits says:

Looks like it’s if rain lasts longer than 2 hours and the threat of lightning/tornado’s are in the area after that time. Fingers crossed but if we can make it to 5:30-6:00PM EST with it being a delay, it could be a canceled game.

  136. Eng says:

@Eng: Just looked at box score and it’s in the middle of the 4th. Even if they can’t resume, the game is official and will count as a 7-0 win for Texas and the ugly loss for Gio.

  137. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Rudy Gamble: thanks for the great post today. Watching bailey throw so far he isnt trying to overthrow or strike everyone out, small sample but i can see a difference in him pitching this year, looks effortless, hope he keeps it up and id stay away from volquez till he gets his head right, dusty pulled him early today, his stuff is there,he just isnt executing his pitches,he will eventually and when he does youll see shades of 2 years ago

  138. frog says:

what’s the possibility that guerrier ends up as the dodgers closer? padilla is padilla, kuo is off, jansen is wild…
should i drop gregerson (nl-league) and pick up guerrier?

  139. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Eng: thought games had to go 5 innings

  140. Mr2Bits says:

Problem is that if they are not going to run both teams out there in hopes to finish a half an inning. If the delay goes on longer than 2 hours and the weather does not change, the game will be canceled (and my week will be saved)

  141. Wilsonian says:

@MattW: I’ve had offers from 3 different rams for him, but none of them worked. They were all lowball offers. I have SBs to spare, I just need some slugging and average. I know Wright is valuable, and no one is really offering anything of value for him, and if that doesn’t happen, I’m perfectly ok with hanging on to him.

  142. Starlin Castroated says:

The trade I mentioned yesterday got vetoed by the commissioner.

I got: Hanley and Ian Kennedy
I give: BJ Upton and Justin Masterson

You all mentioned that the trade sucked for him, but wasn’t veto worthy. How should I go about protesting the use of the veto? Any thoughts?

  143. bravo says:

    Thanks, Grey!

  144. Eng says:

@Mr2Bits: It won’t since Texas are leading they don’t need to play their half of the inning since they’re the home team. If the game is canceled the score will stand. That’s how it works, sorry but you needed the lightning half an inning earlier.

  145. Mr2Bits says:

You are correct. According to the baseball rules, if the home team is ahead, they have to play the top of the 5th. If Texas is still ahead after the top of the 5th, then the game can be called and deemed official. So according to the rules, they need to finish the 4th and let Oakland bat before it’s official.

  146. knighttown says:

Trending slight over my IP max. No biggie but can be selective. Please rank the starts available this week:

    A) Beachy vs. Phi
    B) McLellan @ Cin
    C) Chacin vs. SD
    D) DLR vs. SD
    E) Bills vs. Az
    F) Hamels @ Atl

Who would you start and rank ’em so I can adjust.

  147. Eng says:

@Mr2Bits: APOLOGIES! I can’t read, I though they were at 4.5 when I looked at the box score. My facts were on but had zero relevance for today’s game so sorry for the confusion. Off for some more coffee!

  148. C.O.C. says:

Hey Razzballers, Grey, etc..yesterday I asked what pitcher I should go after in a trade for Chase Utley, as he is near a return. The question I really need answered before I pull the trigger is….SHOULD I trade him? And while I generally try to keep my ?’s as short as possible, the only way I think you can give me a good answer is if you knew who was on my team. So here it is:
    C Posada
    1B Fielder
    2B Prado
    3B Beltre
    SS Drew
    OF Hart
    OF Gordon
    OF Maybin
    DH Coghlan

Pitchers: Lee, Oswalt, Beckett, Burnett, Beachy, McLellan, Lackey, Duensing, Colon, Narveson, Alex White, Tyson Ross, and Phil Hughes on the DL.
This is a deep 16 H2H weekly points league, and pitching is absolutely SCARCE. My hitting has been fine, and I won this league last year more on pitching than hitting. My concern is all the issues with my pitchers (Burnett and Lackey unpredictable, Oswalts back, Hughes???, and innings caps on guys like Beachy, Colon, and McClellan) Is Utley going to be more valuable hitting on my team or in a trade for pitcher?

  149. Wilsonian says:

@Eng: which means they’ve only played 3.5 innings, you have to at least have the visiting team bat in the 5th for it to be a complete game.

  150. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Mr2Bits: cool, thanks for the clarification,i dont own gio and all kinsler got me was a run so it really didnt affect me but its nice to know

  151. Mr2Bits says:

Just read this on the DFW website, I knew going to church would pay off as it appears it’s going to be canceled.

BREAKING : The top deck filled with fans was evacuated at Rangers Ballpark during the game Wednesday. Officials have also been forced to delay the game until a later time because of the weather

  152. Grey

    Grey says:

    @knighttown: F, C, D, A…

@C.O.C.: I’d trade him for a pitcher. Aim as high as you can. Maybe Hamels.

@Mr2Bits: Great, there goes my Moreland grand slam.

  153. Steve says:

Ugh Wandy. It was all going so well.

  154. Mr2Bits says:

Hahaha, don’t get greedy now. In all fairness, nothing is “official” yet but when you hear they are evacuating the decks and stadium for peoples safety, one would logically think the game is canceled.

  155. Martin says:

@grey- I am in 1st place in my H2H playoff format 12 team league. I have alex gordon and am looking to move him. Would you trade him for chase utley so I can have utley for the 2nd half of the season and the playoffs?

  156. @AL KOHOLIC: Wasn’t gloating. Just thanking. But thanks. & I do hope that the monsoon does continue for the rest of you Giowners!

  157. Commish Cauda says:

    16-team, H2H-Points league (K=-1, BB=1, SB=3)

Just lost Soto to the DL. Options are Hanigan, Lucroy, Jaso, Ramon Hernandez, Olivo, AJ Pierzynski

    Who to grab?

  158. AL KOHOLIC says:

@C.O.C.: if i were you id want a stud pitcher,he should get you one, oswalt and lee i like beckett is close and beachy is on innings limit,

  159. dingbat says:

@Grey: Thanks! I pulled the trigger on the trade. Now that Soto’s hit the DL, I need a catcher replacement. I’ve got the following potential droppables:

    (gulp) Liriano

    and these catchers are available:

    Suzuki (on waivers until Friday)

I’m thinking Furcal for Conger. Anything else look better?

  160. Mr2Bits says:

Ahh shit : Grady Sizemore will undergo a precautionary MRI on his right knee Wednesday evening.
Sizemore is not in Wednesday’s lineup against the Rays because of discomfort in his left knee — not the one he had surgically repaired last season. The Indians are hoping that it’s nothing significant, but they’re playing it safe and running the right tests to rule out the possibility of structural damage.

  161. Eng says:

@Wilsonian: I know. please read above your response.

  162. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Martin: if you can afford to loose him now and wait on utley i would,he,s hitting better this year but i think 270-280 20 hr,s is still what to expect from him,

    Fantasy Analysis
No injury has been announced, but some kind of clarification is surely coming. Fantasy owners in daily lineup leagues should keep him out of active rosters and Fantasy owners in all formats will need to pay close attention to how this situation develops. Sizemore is 5 for 24 (.208) at the plate over the past week, but he remains a high-end Fantasy outfielder when healthy. We’ll update you on this situation as more information is known.

AL-leading Indians take down Weaver, Angels
Alex White pitched six gritty innings for his first major-league win, Shin-Soo Choo doubled home the tying and go-ahead runs to snap an 0-for-18 drought since his arrest on DUI charges, and the Cleveland Indians beat Jered Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels 4-3 Saturday night.

Grady Sizemore got off to a slow start in 2010 and could not stay healthy long enough to turn things around. His season ended on May 16 because of a left knee injury that eventually required microfracture surgery, and the 28-year-old hit just .211 with zero homers, 13 RBI and four stolen bases in 33 games. Sizemore has had consecutive injury-plagued seasons that have hurt his Fantasy value, but he is still only two years removed from a 30-30 campaign. He is expected to be ready for the start of the season and can hopefully get back to being a productive option. Knee problems might take away some of his stolen bases ,but as long as he can get back to hitting 20-plus homers with 70-90 RBI, he will retain his value in most Fantasy leagues. There is some injury-risk involved with drafting Sizemore, but he has the potential to be an elite Fantasy option, so he is worth the risk in the middle rounds of mixed leagues. (Updated 1/27/11)

I’m in a weekly H2H, I picked up and started aybar over s. drew when it looked like he might miss a few games. I also have raburn and espinosa slowing down…now that it looks like drew is fine, should I drop either raburn and espinosa and keep aybar or drop any of them and pick up fontenot or peralta?

  173. Mr2Bits says:

Blue would be crazy not to call it at this point. Almost an hour and a half delayed, I give it another hour to either play or call it. What has me leaning towards them calling it is the evacuation of the stadium plus the fact that my pitcher Gio got shelled by Moreland who is owned by the guy I’m playing this week.

  174. Chinaski says:

It could be the result of compensating. Whenever you hurt a knee, you automatically put more weight on the other knee to take pressure off the hurt knee and that often leads to overworking of the healthy knee. However i hope he is fine and the MRI comes up negative.

Elbert is good for strikeouts, but he is too wild to be counted on in most Fantasy formats. He is only an option in leagues that use true middle men, and even there, he is a low-end alternative.

For some insane reason, I am still holding onto Volquez (I finally did the right thing and launched Vasquez – bad 14th Round Pick). I need some pop, so I would assume it would be ok to finally launch him for say Ordonez, Moreland, Damon, M. Cabrera, or maybe DeRosa (I am thinking fill in for that cigar store Indian I have at 3B Reynolds). Any advice on which one would be great. Thanks much guys!

Oh yeah, I also loved the Kennedy outing last night in SF. Great stuff on a big stage. Thanks for the advice on him.

  188. chata says:

too bad God didn’t rain on wolf’s parade .

he looked like the same guy that was on the mound an hour before
the game started ….. the one with the protective screen in front of him .

  189. Mr2Bits says:

There is another hour in the Rangers/Oakland game. This thing has to be canceled. No way they keep waiting this crap out.

  190. Smokey

    Smokey says:

@Mr2Bits: It was just called about 10 mins ago. Poor Moreland loses his first career salami.

  191. Black Beard says:

    Must drop one, please help:

    Alvarez, Hosmer, Tabata, or Espinosa?

  192. Mr2Bits says:

Wednesday’s game between the Athletics and Rangers has been called due to rain.
The game made it to the fourth inning before being delayed, but the rain continued to pick up and the umpiring crew finally decided to call it quits around 5:30pm ET. Gio Gonzalez allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings to Texas but will have those stats wiped out.

  193. AL KOHOLIC says:

grey please rank these guys, gomez or bernadina for runs and sb,s

  194. Mr2Bits says:

Grey : Litsch for a stream tonight in a QS league or pass?

  195. Gmen says:

@Grey: Good trade? Rollins for McGeehee.

I have Andrus at short so Rollins is expendable, and really need a 3B.

Would it be better to trade for Moustakas? He’ll be a June callup and should be a monster.

  196. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Gmen: i like McGees overall game,280 20-25 hr,s vs 250 tops average with a little better power this year but long term Mouse could be a big banger, none of these call ups are for sure,s,smoak just now hitting, sans sucking belt failed etc

  197. Gtg says:

    Giolicuous news!!!!

  198. Donnie Baseball says:

b roberts and Walden for Haren?

  199. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Donnie Baseball: if roberts was a full timer yes but i wouldnt trade haren for that, some might with his good numbers, plus i was just offered greinke and rauch for my marmol,i already have frank and i grabbed grienke

  200. dingbat says:

@Gmen: I think you can do a lot better than McGehee with Rollins. Right now, Rollins is the 6th-best SS in the game, and that’s behind guys like Aviles and Asdrubal. A strong SS with a track record of success should get you much more than a mediocre 3B. I’d try for Beltre or even Youkilis.

  201. Donnie Baseball says:

I’m not sure what you’re saying. B Roberts is a full-timer, are you thinking R. Roberts.

So which side did you say the Haren side or the other.

  202. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Donnie Baseball: yeah my bad,i dont trust him to stay healthy but that is a fair trade,i just traded him and hosmer for dunn in one league,

  203. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Donnie Baseball: its fair, which ever one you need worse,if i need a closer and good 2nd guy thats worth it,plus closers are costly during the season,no one wants to move them

  204. Bad Bob says:

    Daniel Hudson or Bud norris?

  205. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Grey: whats the diff in greinke vs d hudson, in rankings

  206. Wilsonian says:

I love when managers make really intelligent decisions…

Clint Hurdle may move Jose Tabata down in the order; let’s see what he’s got to say:

“It hasn’t been a good fit since the second or third day he was in that No. 2 spot,” Hurdle said. “I won’t maintain status quo with the production that’s going on. I gave some thought to it (last week) in Colorado, but then he was hurt.”

Tabata hit .354 in 13 games at leadoff but has hit .127 since dropping down a spot April 15. He has one hit in 12 at-bats since returning from a hamstring injury.

So let me get this straight…he was INCREDIBLE in the leadoff spot, so you moved him out of it. And since your genius move, he’s been crizzap, so now, instead of moving him back to where you have seen that he can excel, you want to move him further down in the order? How do these guys get hired?

  207. AL KOHOLIC says:

    @Wilsonian: yeah i know,i dumped him in my keeper league,only 8 teams

  208. pipa says:

I’m in a 14 team mixed league. Should I hang out to Soto and just DL him( I have Del Young coming off the DL soon) or just drop him?? Ianetta is available.

  209. Wilsonian says:

@AL KOHOLIC: I did too. Unfortunately, I held on to him and dealt Bruce instead. Now I don’t have either one. But still, that makes no sense at all.

  210. chata says:

you don’t really think that if hurdle moved tabata back to the lead-off spot that he would continue on with hitting above a .300 clip , do you ?

  211. Tom Emanski says:

So today’s Giothermal melt-down won’t count against me because the game was postponed, right?

  212. pipa says:

What are your thoughts on Reynolds?? Luckily I picked up Gordon so I’ve been benching him, but he just irritating to have on my team. Last year I dropped Beckham, which backfired and I don’t want to grow impatient again. (which always seems to happen)

  213. pipa says:

I also have Chapman who is a real S.O.B. Every time I go to drop him, I think he could still throw 100K this year. Am I crazy? Should I just frop his ass too?

  214. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Tom Emanski: Nope

@pipa: I’d hold him on the bench.

@pipa: I’d hold Chapman. Just a rough patch.

  215. Wake Up says:

Hosmer goes deep. Moobs follows up with WTP.

  216. Wilsonian says:

@chata: no, I definitely don’t think he would continue hitting .354, but if it ain’t broke, why fix it? I just don’t get the logic behind the moves.

  217. Fletch says:

@Grey: I just got offered Pujols for Prince and Marcum…what do you think?

  218. Tony tone says:

Drop Hill for Beckham? Also, someone just traded Canofor Heyward in my league which pisses me off, since I would had topped that had I known he was available.

  219. Grey

    Grey says:

    @Wake Up: Nice

@Fletch: It’s fair, I’d do it if I needed pitching.

@Tony tone: Can make that switch if you like.

  220. Last Place says:

    Who wins?

    Team 1: Hanley and Aramis

Team 2: David Wright and Michael Pineda

  221. Trick dad says:

    Starlin castro or jeter?

  222. Mr2Bits says:

Can’t buy a freaking QS this week. Last night Corrier gave up 4 ER with 2 outs in the 5th and now Litsch gives up 2ER in the 5th and gets pulled. Damnit! I just need to stop streaming as I’m 0 for 2 this week

  223. Tom Emanski says:

    @Grey: Aw, crust!

  224. Dominic says:

whats up with Tabata? Why did they take him out of the leadoff spot in the first place. Is he done for or what? Plus, is McLouth for real? My OF is pretty solid with J. Upton, Krispie, Pacman, Heyward and Tabata but Im just wondering.

  225. paulzone says:

who would you take for holds and vulture wins:

    joba, sipp or balfour

  226. timSTi says:

    @Grey: Wright & Andrus or Luongo & Jeter/Barney

  227. Trevor

    tggq21 says:

WTF is Kimbrel problem.. kids got all the potentialin the world and it’s turning into Shit

  228. Steve says:

Not such a good day to be a Nunez or Kimbrel owner. Or Kimbrel and Nunez in my case…

  229. chata says:

    what’s that , 5 saves in a row for madson ??

  230. Trevor

    tggq21 says:

    Alvarez is backkk!

  231. bogbert says:

My pitching rankings in my league are as follows (10=good): K=4.5, W=9, SV=9, ERA=3, WHIP=3.

I’m thinking of adding either a closer or a high-K, low-WHIP reliever to my staff. Who would you recommend? Walden, F. Francisco, Melancon, Al-A, Eduardo Sanchez, Frieri.

If you can think of someone else in addition that’s great too; they’re probably available on my wire. Thanks!

  232. AL KOHOLIC says:

ha,watching cubs cards and espn breaks in to show sands rbi double, one of the espn guys says, thats jerry sands ,he,s been a big offensive lift since coming up,ha,where do they get these guys

  233. Steve says:

I’m watching actual baseball too (off work sick) and saw a replay of Kimbrel’s adventures. Obviously he shouldn’t have loaded them up, but the two-run single actually bounced off second base, so a little unlucky perhaps.

  234. AL KOHOLIC says:

juan pierre, doope, misses another 1 for a rbi triple charged to peavy,

  235. Eddie says:

@AL KOHOLIC: I saw that too. Pierre is awful.

  236. chata says:

if bogbert gets to add guy fieri ,
i want richard , from the top chef series .

  237. AL KOHOLIC says:

damn the angels have kendrick in the outfield again,we want trout

  238. herschel says:

@AL KOHOLIC: think well see him before september?

  239. Eddie says:

@AL KOHOLIC: Re Trout in the minors: $$$$$.

  240. Mrobs says:

with kendry(s) due for another surgery and out for the season, is trumbo a must pick up?

  241. Steve says:

@Grey: How do you like Morton v the Dodgers tomorrow?

  242. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Mrobs: didnt see that on kendry?where did you see that

  243. AL KOHOLIC says:

    i see it now,bummer,had in 2 leagues,but atleast now i have closure

  244. nyydj2 says:

Kendry(s), the S is for surgery, is going to have another one and be out for a minimum of 6 months.

  245. Mrobs says:

@AL KOHOLIC: yea they announced it on the Angels telecast (i was watching the Angels game to check on Peavy even tho i didn’t have the balls to start him tonight). I stayed away from Kendry(s) this year so I’m not in need of a 1B but wondering if I should drop a Util guy or Volcanquez for Trumbo?

  246. nyydj2 says:

No structural damage on Sizemore’s knee from MRI, day to day with knee contusion.

  247. chata says:

    tied with melky !!

  248. Grey

    Grey says:

    @chata: Ha!

    @Mrobs: Yup

@Steve: It’s okay. Depends on the situation.

@nyydj2: Thanks for the heads up!

  249. nick m. says:

Trumbo or Carlos Pena for the rest of the year?

  250. chata says:

bourjos legs out a triple .
maybe they’ll let him steal backwards .

  251. Feeding the Abscess

    Travis says:

Watching Bourjos run the bases is like watching Iverson in 2000 or something.

  252. Steve says:

@Grey: To sweep up after Baker? Er, I won’t bother.

  253. chata says:

two months for them to decide i needed cortisone shots .
    yesterday , had my 2nd .

  254. Wilsonian says:

Big Donkey looking like he might have a little life left in him. He ain’t done brayin’ yet!

  255. chata says:

so , yahoo stat-tracker is including the oak/texas game .
guess , if the stats are really not going to count , i should check on their
math , in the morning .

this isn’t a game that they’re going to resume is it ?

  256. nyydj2 says:

ESPN still showing the stats and adding them too. I think the fantasy Gods that smiled upon me today (I had Gio, my opp had Moreland) just want me to see how bad it could have been for a while.

  257. nyydj2 says:

Idiot that I am for starting him there in the first place, lol.

  258. AL KOHOLIC says:

hosmer in on 3 of 4 kc runs including a 4th inning hr,10th inning run and 11th inning rbi

  259. AL KOHOLIC says:

o.k guys fess up,how many of you disregaurded greys recomendation to keep peavy on the bench for his 1st start?he really haslooked pretty good, missed a few locations and a pierre gaffe they called a triple

  260. nyydj2 says:

Girardi in postgame says Cano is at hospital getting a cat scan, got beaned in the head tonight. Girardi says he was telling trainer he was okay as he headed down first base line but was taken out for precautionary reasons.

  261. nyydj2 says:

Cat scan is negative. Cano is clear of any concussion issues.

  262. Steve says:

@Grey: How about Nova @ KC?

  263. chata says:

billions and billions of star years away

  264. Steve says:

Jesus, it wouldn’t be a day in the RCL without someone on my team going 0-5. Al-Ram today. Throw in the inevitable 0-4 for Espinosa while you’re at it with 1-5s for Jackson and Rivera sprinkled on top.

  265. chata says:

    hey Steve .
    you guys got cicadas ?

  266. Steve says:

@chata: Yep, but not right now. Weather has cooled off.

  267. chata says:

that’s a pretty speedy combo …. willits followed by bourjos

  268. Steve says:

    @Steve: Apologies to Al-Ram. Make that 1-6.

  269. Is there a glossary term for owning 3 closers who all blow a save on the same night? How about “Shat Trick”? Yeah, I’m a tad bitter about having Walden, Soria and Nunez… sad night when Fail Fail is your most impressive closer. And yes, I realize Nunez didn’t blow a save, he just lost the game, but I’m still curious about the glossary.

  270. Steve says:

Thornton in to close it out. Hide the kids and buckle up.

  271. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Awesomus Maximus: i think blow job fits the bill

  272. chata says:

    so ,
you spend millions of $$ to assemble the greatest pitching quartet
on the planet , and ,
you end up with no one to catch them ?

confidence on the mound just took a hit .

  273. Steve says:

@AL KOHOLIC: Not even 6pm here – haven’t had enough to drink to accept that ;-)

  274. AL KOHOLIC says:

@Steve: im willing to trade him for offense is my need

  275. gmen says:

@Everyone: Wallace or Trumbo for this year and beyond?

  276. AL KOHOLIC says:

@gmen: trumbo seems to be 25-265 25-30 hr guy, wallace higher average 20 hrs tops, what do you need

  277. chata says:

i’m not so sure wallace’s average will be all that much higher (than .265)
of course , some experts will point to his higher than norm babip
as being sustainable , pointing to his minor league record .

they both have jobs , but with the news of kendrys continued problems ,
trumbo has a good job .

    “… and beyond .” ?
my guess is that you’d have no problem re-acquiring wallace in next year’s draft .

  278. AL KOHOLIC says:

@chata: i agree,i just think that long term wallace could turn into a really good hitter
