*life flashing before eyes right before death* Wow, that’s a lot times I picked up and dropped Chase Anderson.   Is it weird I can understand where Mike Tyson was coming from when he said he wanted to eat Lennox Lewis’ children?  Some of these players — Sonny Gray, Jon Gray, Chase Anderson — come to mind that make me want to eat someone’s children.  Not really (yes, really).  Why couldn’t Chase Anderson do this when he was on my team?!  *lines tacks up on desk, slams head down*  I’m okay!  *blood dripping from forehead like Abdullah the Butcher*  I can’t see!  *screaming at intern*  Getmeahandiwipesoicansee–Okay, I can see again.  I’m still seeing blood though.  Yesterday, Chase Anderson went 7 IP, 0 ER, 1 hit, 2 walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 4.13.  The peripherals are still not there for Anderson — 6.1 K/9, 3.5 BB/9, 5.17 xFIP — so I won’t be going back in on him.  That doesn’t mean it won’t make me think about salt and peppering some kids if he pitches well again.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Eric Thames – 1-for-4, 1 run as he hit leadoff, hitting .250.  Yes, sucks for Hayzeus Aaaaa-gueue-R.  What I’d like to spend a half-second on though.  Thames is hitting leadoff?  Doesn’t Villar hitting leadoff and Thames hitting sixth make sense?  Or to quote a young Haley Joel Osment, “I see dead RBIs.”

Noah Syndergaard – Getting a 2nd opinion on his finger.  If he needs a week between opinions on each finger, he may be out until June 2020.  A lot riding on Syndergaard, so can’t the Mets form ten lines behind each finger?

Yoenis Cespedes – No timetable for his return, and he’s back to square one….Which is Jm J. Bullock for the win!

Zack Wheeler – 5 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA up to 4.98.  The good news is he’s at least pretending to be healthy.

Ronald Acuna – Nearing rehab games.  Great!  Hopefully he’s not running to them while trying to call himself safe.

Ozzie Albies – 1-for-5, 4 RBIs and his 16th homer, hitting .255.  Hey, I’ll take the power — snap!  So peace, stay off my back or I will attack and you don’t want that! — but is Albies a 35-homer, .250 hitter now?  Hit a couple singles between bombs, my baby boo.

Freddie Freeman – 1-for-2, 2 runs, and his 13th homer, hitting .341.  In case you don’t own him and know how well he’s doing, on the Fantasy Baseball Player Rater, he’s a top 7 overall player.

Ender Inciarte – 2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBIs and 2 steals (19, 20), hitting .244.  Ender always goes like this.  Gets to about the edge of your patience, and now will go on a .340-in-a-month tear.  It’s Ender’s game, Mazer.

Mike Foltynewicz – 5 IP, 0 ER, 2 hits, zero walks, 6 Ks, ERA at 2.16.  But Falutintootinwhich left with a tight triceps.  NOOOOOOO *pauses to breathe*  OOOOOOOOO!!!  We need a prayer trapezoid now!

Didi Gregorius – 2-for-4 and his 12th and 13th homers, hitting .248.  Gra-gra-Gregorius!  Welcome back!  You wouldn’t have happened to see Giancarlo wherever you were, did you?

CC Sabathia – 5 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 3.27.  Why do I think CC totally trains with Bartolo in the offseason?  “You don’t need to throw fast.  Write that down.”  CC jots it down.  “Also, if you have more than 17 children you’re avoiding paying child support, you need to live out of a Penn Station locker.  Write that down too.”

Daniel Murphy – 0-for-4 as he was activated from the DL, and DH’d.  Mean’s while, Juan Soto took a seat.  Unfortunately for him, it wasn’t during a game of Duck, Duck, Goose.

Bryce Harper – Left yesterday’s game after being hit twice by Yankees pitchers.  PUA Mystery would agree with that neg if they’re trying to sign Harper next year.

Ian Kennedy – 8 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks, ERA at 5.13 vs. Sal Romano – 8 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 5.67.  This was a throwback game to the dead ball era, which makes sense when you consider it was a Kennedy vs. the Reds.

Trevor Williams – 3 IP, 3 ER and 5 unearned runs, ERA at 4.38.  Holy ticker shock that box scare nearly had me calling 911 for a defibrillator.

Starling Marte – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 8th homer, hitting .286.  He fell a triple and a single short of the cycle, which is technically a bicycle.

John Ryan Murphy – 2-for-5, 1 run, 1 RBI and hitting cleanup, and, as I look at the Diamondbacks lineup, I kinda understand it.  Without Pollock, there’s no middle of the Diamondbacks lineup, just as there’s no way of knowing how many people it takes to screw in a light bulb.

Ketel Marte – 2-for-2, 2 runs, 3 RBIs, and hitting near-.320 in the last week.  Yesterday’s Pirates-Diamondbacks game was a Marte party!

Jon Jay – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 3 RBIs and his 2nd homer.  The Federalist is in favor of a strong central government and hitting in front of Au Shizz.

Clay Buchholz – 4 IP, 5 ER, ERA up to 3.21.  Wheels came off; there was definitely bumps and talk of needing Triple-A.

Rafael Devers – 1-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 10th homer, hitting .231.  “I’m not saying we can’t use Devers’ carcass to ride down the log flume at Six Flags, but I’m not saying we can’t–HOLD ON!  He’s alive!”

Andrew Benintendi – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 12th homer.  Is it me (it’s not me) or does he hit so many homers and they’re not counted on his stats?  He has to have more than 12 homers, doesn’t he?

David Fletcher – Recalled by the Angels to act as a utility man.  He hit .350 in Triple-A with six homers and seven steals, so he will become an All-Star on another team in five years when The Sciosciapath is done benching him.

Mike Trout – 3-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 22nd and 23rd homer, and four homers in the last two games. We’re both from Jersey, but I won the state championships in checkers, so I don’t sweat him.

Mitch Haniger – 2-for-3, 3 RBIs and his 14th and 15th homer.   That’s it, Mitch, get hot again!  Don’t make me regret naming my team, “If You Can Read My Team Name, The Mitch Fell Off.”

Ryon Healy – 2-for-4 and his 11th and 12th homer, and three homers in the past two games.  Hot schmotato alert!

Yoan Moncada – 1-for-4 and his 9th homer, hitting .232.  The calls in the comments to drop him must’ve reached critical mass, and now Moncada’s about to turn it on.  As I told one person in the comments yesterday, Moncada is around that of a .235 hitter, so huge dips in his performance should be expected.

Joakim Soria – 1/3 IP, 0 ER and his 9th save.  Not only did he get the save, but Nate Jones started the 9th and did a number two.  The two in this scenario is baserunners or poop.

Trevor Richards – 6 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 2 Ks, ERA at 4.41.  The Stream-o-Nator loved this start, and hates his next one, so drop him like he’s Trevor Gott.

Chris Stratton – 7 IP, 3 ER, 7 baserunners, 3 Ks, ERA at 4.56.  He’s actually been better on the road this year like a musician who just had his first kid, but can’t settle down, wears a bandana and tells people he once played with the J. Geils Band.  Freeze frame!

Walker Buehler – Hit the DL with a microfracture of his rib.  The injury was found when they sent a microscopic Dennis Quaid into his blood stream.

Clayton Kershaw – Threw a bullpen session.  That puts him in line to return around the All-Star break.  He can then root on the Dodgers All-Stars, Matt Kemp (0-for-3, 1 run) and Max Muncy (2-for-5, 2 RBIs and his 13th homer).  Just as they drew it up in the spring!

Joc Pederson – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer, and 7th (!) homer in the last week.  If you wanna know what Razzball thinks of Joc, simply search his name.  There’s been about 189 posts about him on the site in the last week.  We need some kind of content management system where once one person writes about a player, no one else can write about him for a week.  Have to get Rudy on this.

Yasiel Puig – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 3 RBIs and his 8th homer, as Joc and him hit 7th and 8th in the lineup, because Dave Roberts has a thing for redheads and likes Justin Turner in his three hole.  Only thing I can think of.

Trevor Cahill – Sounds headed to the DL due to a heel problem.  A ‘Cahill problem’ would also work there.

Daniel Mengden – 4 2/3 IP, 6 ER, ERA up to 3.90.  I see people with Mengden still on their teams.  Yo, prematurely balding men and the five women that love them, that ship has sailed.  Mengden was a streamer a few weeks back, he wasn’t meant to own.

Carlos Correa – 2-for-4, 2 runs and his 11th homer, as he returned to the lineup.  Also, in this game, Evan Gattis (2-for-4, 5 RBIs) hit his 11th homer.  Sure, Correa is hitting for a better average, but, woof, they have the same number of homers.  Member when you wanted to draft Correa in the top 15 and I told you not to?  Yup.  I didn’t say to take Gattis instead, either.  That was CBS.

Ken Giles – 1 IP, 0 ER and the save, ERA at 4.76.  *tears up lottery tickets with Hector Rondon’s name on it, throws them in the air*  In all seriousness, I don’t think this is said and done yet.

Joe Mauer – Cleared of concussion symptoms and will begin rehab games.  Mauer said, “I feel as good as new,” as he walked into a closet thinking it was the team plane.  In the pitch dark, “Damn, I knew I should’ve requested a window seat.”

Ehire Adrianza – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBIs and a slam (3) and legs (3), and his 2nd homer in five games, and hitting near-.325 in the last week.  Could be a light schmotato.  Fun fact!  Every email Ehire sends people think it’s from LinkedIn and delete it.

Miguel Cabrera – Needs season-ending surgery.  Maybe there’s nothing to it, but I’m convinced the easier a player has when they’re younger, the harder they have it when they get older.  Hanley comes to mind, Andruw Jones too.  Now Miggy.  Players that coast on natural ability when they’re young, struggle when they get old.  That’s in my scientific example using a case study of three players.  I am low key celebrating John Hicks as my catcher now that he is the Tigers’ 1st basemen.

Francisco Liriano – Will make a rehab start on Sunday.  I was gonna make some joke about how your 2006 self is crazy excited, so I went to look at Liriano’s lifetime stats.  He’s had literally one great year since 2006, three solid years and has never pitched 200 IP in one year.  To all the fathers out there, if you don’t teach your son how to pitch with his left hand from the moment he can stand, you deserve to be left on the lawn at an old age home when you hit 70.

Scott Kingery – 1-for-2, 4 RBIs and his 3rd homer, hitting .215.  And you people said he retired to raise chickens!  I told you ChicKingery Farms doesn’t exist!

Aaron Nola – 6 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 4 baserunners, 10 Ks, ERA at 2.27.  Solid start, great year, but this was vs. the Rockies in Philly.  The Rockies are the Jekyll and Hyde of teams.  Feared at home, sneered at away.

Jon Gray – 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 baserunners (4 BBs), 10 Ks, ERA at 5.68.  Maybe because he’s beaten me down to the point where I flinch when I see his name, but this was a damn good start for him!  Totally trying to convince myself he’s turned a corner!  Nope, it’s not working!

Tom Murphy – 3-for-4, 2 RBIs as he was recalled.  Woo-hoo!  My favorite Murphy!  I’d say eff Daniel Murphy, but he might take it the wrong way and try to hunt me down.

Sergio Romo – 1 IP, 0 ER, and the save, ERA at 5.19.  For the first time since Colome was traded, the Rays had a save opportunity, and it went to Romo.  As they say after dessert in Poland, (I’m paraphrasing), “Today’s closer is tomorrow’s opener.”

Wilson Ramos – 1-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 8th homer.  The Rays big names today were Romo & Ramos, the founding brothers of Rome.  Or was that Goofus and Gallant?

Josh Donaldson – Could be activated today.  Donaldson says he’s ready, as he played catch yesterday with an ant hill that was positioned 18 inches in front of him.

It would be so much easier to sit on Giles if he wasn’t pitching so horribly. I was cyclopsing Hicks for catcher as well. It’s him, JRM, or Moldanado. I’m guessing Hicks has the best upside for playing time, or do you like JRM in cleanup more?

Who do you prefer between McCuller and Archer ROS? Seems safe to assume McCullers might find himself on the DL at some point, always does.

Hey Grey, now that Goldy is hitting, is Altuve the worst top ten pick this year? Please tell me he is about to go on a HR tear! Please?

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

@Christopher Coriell: Altuve is currently ranked 19th in Yahoo. So there’s at least Trea Turner being a worse top 10 pick.

      • Starz says:
        (link)

@Cram It: And Altuve has been doing well the past month. Turner has been solid, but more like 2nd round value. I’m one of those who drafted him 5th overall. In a weird turn of events, I now have three first rounders on my team after trading for Goldy and Stanton in the past month, but I didn’t pay first round prices.

      • Christopher Coriell says:
        (link)

@Cram It: thanks. That makes me feel great for drafting Altuve an all of his single!

    • Chucky says:
      (link)

How’d you like to be stuck with Bryant and his 8 HRs and 29 RBIs, both good for like 80 something place among MLB hitters or Stanton and his Mendoza line batting avg v RHP? Those are the real duds. I’d take Trea Turner over either one and with a strong cocktail, might take TT over both of those bums.

      • Starz says:
        (link)

@Chucky: Stanton is doing well, he’s just not providing first round value. Yet. He’s still in-line with previous years (slow starter).

        • Chucky says:
          (link)

Stanton doing well? Have you been to a Yankee game recently? Those are boos and not Lou’s. His 200 batting avg and 660 OPS at Yankee Stadium are problematic. Add in the fact that 70% of MLB pitchers are RH and he’s hitting 200 with a 660 OPS also v RHP. Not good. Looks like Jeter took Cashman to school on that one.

          • Cram It says:
            (link)

@Chucky: Oh they’re booing him, he must stink! He’s a career .258 against RHP. I don’t know why you’re discounting his entire career before now.

          • The Harrow says:
            (link)

@Chucky: didn’t they boo him in like the 5th game of the year too, all this “proves” is that NYY fans (at least a lot that go to the game anyway, OR at least some of the loudest that go to a game) are jackasses. they trade (and almost gave nothing huge away, by the way, so jeter got way less than he’d have gotten from say STL (which stanton nixed himself)) for an awesome bat and boo him nearly immediately, stay classy NY.

Ok so true story. I am thinking, what ever happened to Tom Murphy. So I go to baseball reference and see Tom Murphy’s 2018 stats and dude is killing it in AAA. So I Google, is Tom Murphy ready to come to Colorado in 2018. A write up in the Denver post is the first article, and it is about Tom Murphy being promoted at that very moment. I go to free agents in my league, I add him and start him! Talk about sweet timing.

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

@Malicious Phenoms: he’s killed it in the minors many many times. let’s see if they play him more than twice a week before we start sucking each other off. they didn’t like his catching in previous seasons and if that didn’t change he won’t play much. wolter is an absolutely ABHORRENT hitter and he’s gotten more playing time than iannetta a lot of the season. it’s due to the catching. plus we all know how completely stupid COL is with prospects.

    Snell – @NYY: $0.6
    Taillon – @ARI: $3.1
    Fulmer – MIN: $11.6
    Smith – SF: $5.6
    Heaney – @OAK: $6.9

Points league similar to DFS scoring, although QS are counted also

About Correa/Gattis 11 HRs, isn’t that still like a 30 homer pace? and didn’t they both miss time? and they still have more than Arrenado, Bryant, and Abreu for example
I don’t get what’s so bad about 11 HR shrug emoji
and this is coming from someone who doesn’t own Correa anywhere
and may or may not have drafted Gattis in the second round (or more likely, picked him up off waivers after slow start)

Weekly lineups due today – 7-day HTRON values in parens.

    1) Sit one of Aguilar ($6.2 – not sure why he sits for Thames, but if he does, he sits for me too), Suarez ($2.1 – only five games), or Alonso ($10.7 – consistently the worst of the three). Think I have to sit Aguilar this week and see what shakes out.

    2) Sit one of Adames (-$11.2 – hated by the robot), Harrison ($2.7 – and red hot recently), Chris Taylor ($6.7 – consistently meh). Trust the ‘bot and sit Adames?

    3) Picked up Tom Murphy and starting him over Mesoraco as my second Catcher. Good move?

@Grey: Thanks for the validation. I feel so… uh… validated. Follow up question. Pick Up Joc to start ahead of any of the guys above (probably Eugenio or Yonder, I think)? I hesitate because (1) I have owned him multiple times before and he has burned me every single time, (2) I already have three Dodger hitters (Puig, Taylor and Grandal) and would prefer not to be too overloaded with a single team, (3) the Dodgers face 4 lefties out of six games this week and he rarely plays against lefties, and (4) HTRON hates him for the next seven.

Just gonna post a follow up question to the one I posted yesterday Re: the plethora of questionable health of pitchers in my rotation and who to drop.

Cram and yourself (Grey) suggested Wood (listed DTD), but now it’s official that Walker Buehler is on the DL. It’s concerning as I suspect that the Dodgers are gonna take their time with this one in an attempt to perhaps reduce innings on Walker in tandem with his recovery. YUCK!

I now officially have Archer, Darvish, Ray and Buehler on the DL with only 2 DL slots (no injured hitters—certainly just jinxed myself)

Do I stand pat or need to reevaluate my drop strategy? Drop suggestions? Here’s the pitching roster (again):

    Brad Hand SD – RP

    Kyle Barraclough Mia – RP

    Felipe Vázquez Pit – RP

    Seranthony Domínguez Phi – RP

    José Quintana ChC

    Aaron Nola Phi

    Carlos Rodón CWS – SP

    Nick Pivetta Phi – SP

    DTD–Alex Wood LAD –

    -DL-Walker Buehler LAD

    –DL–Chris Archer TB – SP

    –DL–Yu Darvish ChC – SP

    –DL–Robbie Ray Ari – SP

      (link)

@Joel: How Many bench spots? How big is league? Format? If you are out of bench spots you need to drop low hanging fruit on DL as you need to be able to maximize At Bats if this is a daily league.

    • Cram It says:
      (link)

@Joel: Doesn’t change anything about losing Wood. Could probably lose Buehler now too, but like Knoche said, depends on format and if you need to maximize ABs or IPs

  33. Feeling the same with Gray, Grey (double Gra/eys may be part of your affinity and subsequent retention issue). 10Ks is encouraging. Same with Castillo actually (also 10Ks last start!). These schleps are doing just enough to remain optimistic, as they thoroughly shizz over all other categories. With a probable innings limit, I was going to wait one start to activate Soroka. But it is against the hapless Mets. With really no other arms to dispose of, would you recommend finally dropping either Gray or Castillo before Soroka’s noon start? Or exercise additional patience, give them one more start with hopes of them turning the corner, and likely another opportunity to give up 5 more runs with 10+Ks? Thanks, terrific re-cap as per usual, and again, the videos are a riot.

@coacher: FYI Razzball trade analyzer says Acuna $18 vs Zimmerman and Darvish $23 each; however, I have Goldy at 1B, Healy at CI, and NCruz at U. I don’t have a spot for Zimmerman….although I could flip someone out of the bunch. Maybe hot schomato Healy??

So Grey, 12 team keeper using OBP, WLQS and SVH: Was pondering offering my $4 Wood (pun intended) for $23 dollar Wade Davis. I am in first overall by losing pts in SVH.

What do you think given the rest of my staff?
SP: Sale, Carrasco, Corbin, E-Rod, Musgrove, Stripling, (Flaherty in my Minors who I would promote)

RP: Treinen, Box, Jeffress, Rondon, Tepera, Nicasio (DL), Ottavino (DL) (have Osuna who i would drop if deal with through)

      • Whatever says:
        (link)

@Grey: Wood for Davis did not fly. Then I was offered Gerrit Cole for Juan Soto and Willy Adames (both in my minors). Given my staff above you think its worth it? I am currently in an arms race with two other top teams and need to gain pts in pitching. Plus Cole is 24 bucks next year which is a keeper in our league (350 cap)

  38. Ace of Spades says:

I have a question about this Joc Pederson guy from the Dodgers…..Just kidding…Thanks to you I have shares of him everywhere.

    My real question (s ) are :

    1. 12 team mixed 6 cats ( OBP in addition to traditional five ) ROS Josh Harrison or Ketal Marte?

    2. should I drop Y Munoz to add the winner of question #1?
Heres why its not a no brainer for me, this league has a 60 limit move on free agents. I have already used 45 ( I have no control ) . My pitching is a hot mess as I traded away aces for hitting ( traded carrasco for Goldy when Goldy was left for dead last month. Also Nola was a throw in for a deal in which I got trout ) …Right now my starters are Trever Bauer, mikolas , Newcomb, Velasquez, Castillo , M Montgomery, M Gonzales, bucholtz, Mengden….So as you can see, work needs to be done either thru trades or pick ups. I have Acuna coming back soon and also own K Bryant in this league, so trading offense for pithcing may be the way I have to go. Sorry, Ive gotten off track of my second question which was:

Should I grab the winner of question #1 and drop Munoz or should I just hold and keep my moves..

    As always, thanks in advance.

    • Cram It says:

@Ace of Spades: Idk what your pitching has to do with these moves, but personally I like Munoz. Could see Harrison, not Ketel.

  39. Luke says:
    (link)

Keeper league, would you trade stanton and betts for Trout and Nola?

I have bryant and Correa as my other batter keepers.

    • Chucky says:
      (link)

You ain’t getting Trout for Betts and Stanton. Stanton has zero value except to the handful who buy into the name. If they actually peruse the stat sheet, you not getting Daniel Descalco for Stanton. A Mendoza line batting avg of 200 v RHP isn’t gonna cut it by Stanton. This is a game where 70% of MLB pitchers are RH. Now go do the math and the answer is obvious.

      • Luke says:
        (link)

@Chucky: The person who I am trading to really wants Stanton, so I’m assuming a lot of it by the name and assuming he has MVP potential again. I asked because the two player swap on the razball trade analyzer said I was over paying with stanton and betts, as Nola didn’t have huge value.

        • Starz says:
          (link)

@Luke: I wouldn’t listen to Chucky, he’s got something against Stanton for some reason.
Any trade in which you can get Trout is a steal. But Betts AND stanton is a lot to give up. If you could move Bryant and Stanton for Trout that would be first choice. obviously, other guy is likely looking for Betts. Or Betts and a lower number 2.

          • Cram It says:
            (link)

@Starz: I’m convinced Chucky is Willy Mo’s burner account.

          • luke says:
            (link)

@Starz: yeah I know he wouldn’t do Bryant and Stanton, I was just thinking it gave me a better keeper batter, and I could keep nola over paxton. My keepers right now are carrasco and Paxton for pitching, and bryant, correa, betts, stanton (3 of those batters, haven’t decided who yet)

Hate to give them up while they are hot, but is it worth it? I also have Springer, Puig, Brantley, Dickerson, Teoscar for my OF. I would move Gallo and or Moreland to play 1b with Muncy at 3b.

Trade question that would shape my season.

I just traded Rosario and Cain for Sale and Mazara.

Another owner wants Sale, but I have only gotten one start from him. My pitching hasn’t quite worked out, and currently I have Tyson Ross, Luis Castillo, Carlos Rodon, Chris Devenski, Andrew Miller, David Robertson, Justin Miller, Ryan Yarbrough, Kenley Jansen, Mike Soroka, and Chris Sale….. this is a 20 team mixed roto.

I have an offer that would not me Trout, Odubal Herrera, and Shawn Newcomb for Rizzo, Sale, and Devenski.

My only steals are from Tim Anderson, and he has faded. My lineup is currently:

    C Cervelli/Diaz
    1B Rizzo
    2b Taylor
    3b Rendon
    Ss Anderson
    OF Mazara
    OF Teoscar Hernandez
    OF Mancini
    UT Jose Fernandez/Mark Reynolds

I could just slide Mancini in at first and Trout and Herrera into the OF leaving Teoscar Henandez for UT with the other two.

I dont think I can pass on Trout? Especially with Sales history of fading in the 2nd half? Can Newcomb keep up this performance? Thank you preemptively for your insight!!!!

With Buehler and Archer on the DL and only 1 DL spot, it looks like I might need to deploy a streaming pitching spot, which means one or 2 of the following need to go:

My saves hoarding RPs are currently: Treinen, Boxberger, Greene, Barraclough, Dominguez, and Parker
My bench bats are: Schoop and Desmond (rest of my OF are Betts, Gallo, Rosario and UTIL bat is Shaw, 2B is Merrifield)

@Grey: I have a nasty habit of wanting to know for sure what categories I can take each week in H2H – so yeah, I don’t need 6 closers, but what happens is if I don’t see a pitcher I want while streaming, i’ll pick up a closer and feel good I’m going to take SVs and most likely also take ERA/WHIP and K/9 while also limiting my exposure to losses – I hate that my league counts Losses as a category

Hey Grey! How about Muncy? Jeez. Consensus seems to be that it’s largely legit too . . . he did the swing change thing + apparently always controlled the strike zone well.

Re: Mengden . . . totally agreed + of course didn’t start him in my weekly league despite the 2 starts. Mengden has some interesting matchups ahead . . . CWS, DET, SD, [HOU-lol, no], @SF, @TEX, TOR, DET.

Does Mengden interest you as a hold given those matchups, or are you dropping without fear for Lugo/Eflin/Tom Murphy bet (in that order)?

      • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
        (link)

@Grey: I’m getting ahead of myself, but I’m wondering if he turns into a keeper in some leagues! This is quite a pace he’s on, he’s got great eligibility (2B soon too), and nothing he’s’ doing seems unsustainable (.290 babip) besides maybe that 29% HR/FB. Gotta love the 45.7% hard contact and only 13% soft.

And we thought this was a Mengden comment question!

            (link)

@Grey: 1000%. As a Chris Taylor owner this year, I’m pretty fine with it despite not being quite what I hoped. I think the difference with Muncy is that the power seems more legit + speed isn’t a part of his game . . . Taylor, we all felt he’d be good for AVG/SB but meh on power.

Keep forever – $10 Charlie Morton for his $0 Walker Buehler?

I’m looking to win now (as is he – we’re in the top slots), but seems worth it to get a keeper ace + my strategy in that league is playing matchups/streamers anyway.

Morton is technically my staff ace, but I’ve also got Mikolas, Clev, Wacha, Robbie Ray, Caleb Smith, Taillon, Hendricks, Musgrove, Ryu, Hill (6-7 starters per week in weekly lineup, so I go with SON each week).

I am in 2nd but could use some help at 2B (I have Happ) and SP.

    A Meadows
    D Fisher
    T Anderson
    B Zimmer
    N Senzel

No, I forgot all about him. I don’t really get all that excited about high OBP, low K guys that are good base stealers. Although I do prefer age 35+ leadoff hitters. Kinsler may not get on base but he has all the tools otherwise. If I could start Shawn Green at second base, though, perhaps I could move Kinsler to RF.

Excellent write-up! Just managed to read it now, it’s like manna from heaven after a long day on the road.

    a. So am finally here in Kampala. Have to go for my exit medical exam. Hopefully I will pass my urine test (haha, pollock joke!). I go back by road tomorrow and will be at home around this same time so don’t freak out if I’m not on when you get on tomorrow, ‘K?

    b. Lovin’ Joc! He is officially the hottest current player in MLB.

    c. Mark Twain quote of the day for June 13

Young Man: You keep using that word–training. By it do you particularly mean–

Old Man: Study, instruction, lectures, sermons? That is a part of it–but not a large part. I mean all the outside influences. There are a million of them. From the cradle to the grave, during all his waking hours, the human being is under training. In the very first rank of
his trainers stands association. It is his human environment which influences his mind and his feelings, furnishes him his ideals, and sets him on his road and keeps him in it. If he leave[s] that road he will find himself shunned by the people whom he most loves and esteems, and whose approval he most values. He is a chameleon; by the law of his
nature he takes the color of his place of resort. The influences about him create his preferences, his aversions, his politics, his tastes, his morals, his religion. He creates none of these things for himself. He thinks he does, but that is because he has not examined into the matter.

    Cheers,
    Ante

Hey Grey, late questch but would appreciate your insight if you get a change. In my 12-team standard Y! league I’ve offered Miguel Sano up to every team in the league in trade discussions but no takers. The power has been there but nothing else has, and his peripheral numbers don’t scream regression. But, that power is so tantalizing. Sano is currently in my UTIL spot. Would you hold Sano, or cut him and pick up one of the following? I am leaning towards keeping Sano for now but am getting antsy.

Trade partner has Jansen, Strickland, Norris, Swarzak, SGreene, Rondon, Giles. He’s up 30+ saves on the next highest guy (had Familia too).

Welp…I made that Newcomb for Archer offer this morning and it was accepted. Then I saw afterwards that you wouldn’t have made that trade. In my defense, it’s a shallow league and I try to be less risk averse in such a format and I have the open DL spot. Being a shallow league, I can now pick up someone like Soroka until Archer is off the DL. Plus, looking under the hood, Newcomb’s peripherals were trending downwards while Archer’s were trending up. Does this context make the move more defensible?

    Hey Grey,

Couple of random thoughts: It is very hard owning Harper outside of those few weeks a year when he delivers all his counting stats at once.

As a Soto owner–who needs him in the Nats lineup on the regular– I could not be more happy about his 3-run jack. Youngest to homer at Yankee Stadium (the real one) since Ken Griffey Jr. Childish Bambino. Love it.

    • Mr. A Knife says:
      (link)

@GrassyKnollRedding: harper one of the most unlucky players in all of baseball this year in BABIP, his true average is .288. here’s some others:
      desmond (.274 vs .196)
      the black d.fowler (.249 vs .172)
      k.calhoun (.222 vs .145)
      wong (.252 vs .185)
dyson chicken legs (.261 vs .195)
      buxton (.218 vs .156)
      camargo (.273 vs .212)
      kraken (.242 vs .187)

as a brinson owner still (in a 20 team dynasty h2h and a 16 team dynasty roto only at this stage) i’ve noticed that he has turned into (at least my) version of colby rasmus last few years, a LARGE % of his HR’s/doubles/triples/2 hit games (or even ONE hit games) have taken place on slow days in which i actually start him. this newsy possibly for anybody in DFS tomorrow or batty calls.

      • Mr. A Knife says:
        (link)

@Grey: i don’t know if it’s good or not for predicatablity going forward (why would it be; to believe so would take the egoism of those type of owners that say “hey guys i dropped underperforming player X so now of course he’ll do well so go grab him”), but man, he has done well in the few days i’ve had to play him. i’ll look back and see exactly what he’s done when i had to play him in those leagues, as i’m sure it’s an OPS at least 150 pts more than his season long one.

It’s too late for now as I’ve already dropped him for the next guy, but what chance Soroka becomes more than a streamer (if he hasn’t already)? My league only has 10 adds a week, so I can’t really afford to carry a guy you’re not going to start pretty much every time out.

    • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
      (link)

@Stephen Lyon: probably depends on league size and what other SP are streamers in that league.

    • Grey

      Soroka’s better than Keuchel

      • Eli Man Penguin Boy says:
        (link)

@Grey: that brings up a good question, 16 team roto dynasty with K/9 and QS added, and k/BB. somebody dropped keuchel (FAAB) and i’d guess even with hamels don’t bid here, as hamels at least has a good K rate and i’m near certain somebody will think “didn’t this guy get a cy young” and bid like 18 or something anyway

Kind of a follow-up. I’m struggling with Josh Bell as a second 1B. What are your thoughts on him rest of season? I may be able to sell him along with Mikolas or Wacha for Gallo. My pitching has been nails so I’ve got some excess.

    • Grey

Seems like a bit much for Gallo

      • Milarky says:
        (link)

hmmm, covey’s a weird one. his FIP is awesome, SON hates him, but he just keeps eating people’s baby’s. he’s being added everywhere obviously from just the latter. unlike montas who i added when he was doing similar, but at least montas was once a respected prospect. hard to trust anything in weird spots such as this.

Hey Grey, hope you’re having a great Wednesday night!

    A. Snell is a top ___ starter ROS

    B. Who among my team might make sense to offer up as trade bait to get Snell: Posey, C. Santana, Kinsler, Merrifield, Bregman, Arenado, Trout, Cain, Haniger, Cruz, Meadows; Morton, Quintana, Pivetta, Soroka, Gibson, Clevinger, Stripling

    C. Soroka is a top ___ starter ROS

    D. I think you said in a podcast about a month ago that you think Soroka could develop into a perennial top 15 starter. Did I hear correctly? It’s really too soon for this, but I’m thinking ahead about keepers.

    Thanks as always!

  172. Justin Ralph says:

Thanks Grey for answering these questions. I’ve got two.

    1. Drop Moreland or Muncy for Gurriel?

    2. Drop Cahill for Soroka?

    • Johnny2Seam says:
      (link)

      @Justin Ralph:
      1. Probably Muncy
      2. Yeah

    • The Harrow says:
      (link)

@Justin Ralph: cahill’s going DL anyway, notice bassett hound’s awesome FIP and SON should like his upcoming start in cahill’s place.

      • The Harrow says:
        (link)

@The Harrow: “from this height they appear to be tied, but i will go in for a closer look”.

after looking at SON it doesn’t really like bassett hound’s start in replacement of cahill. so on closer inspection “these shoes appear to be loafers”

Already picked up Héctor Rondón this week. Do you think I’d be better off ROS with Kyle Barraclough or possibly Seranthony Domínguez? I’m worried there won’t be many save opportunities in Miami this year.

I already have Brad Hand, Felipe Vázquez, & Josh Hader (for Ks, not a Holds league). Ideally would like to roster 3 closers + Hader, So of the 5 closers mentioned, will you rank them ROS for me please and thank you?
