July 4th is right around the corner, and I know you got tons of big (that’s me finger quoting) plans for the weekend.  So I’ll cut right to the chase and break down some of the injuries affecting fantasy baseball at the moment. Just remember, when you’re two cases of beer in and your starting shortstop breaks his finger sliding headfirst into second base, don’t, I repeat, don’t take out your frustrations by launching fireworks at your computer.

Carlos Gonzalez, RockiesCarGo is pleased with how his finger has been healing, but he’s the last person in the world you’d wanna take injury advice from.  It’ll be nice for owners to get their first-round pick back, but it’s just as likely that he’ll land on the DL with some girly injury five games after returning.

Michael Wacha, CardinalsCards pitchers have been dropping like flies and their stud 22-year-old could be out for a while with a “stress reaction” in his shoulder.  Wacha, Wacha, Wacha!  No, seriously, it’s not funny.

Nolan Arenado, RockiesGood news for Arenado’s owners, as his return to the diamond seems to be speeding up.  He was supposed to start his Triple-A rehab assignment on Sunday, but it got moved up to Saturday.  If all goes well, the Rox 3B could be back in the major league lineup by mid-week.  He was hitting .305/.333/.489 with 6 HR, 28 RBI and 27 runs scored before pulverizing his finger and is available in 16 percent of ESPN.com leagues.  I know fantasy football drafts have started and all, but, c’mon…

Andrew Cashner, PadresHas all the talent in the world but can’t seem to stay healthy this year.  At least being on the DL will save him from a 20-loss season.

Shane Victorino, Red SoxI warned you about this guy last week and now he’s been shut down — and not because of his original injury (hamstring), but due to a back issue.  The fact that he still remains rostered in 44 percent of ESPN leagues is appalling.  Victorino is not theres (but maybe Mookie Betts will be).

Adeiny Hechavarria, MarlinsOn the DL with a triceps strain.  Not much fantasy relevance here…except in All-Donovan Solano Leagues, that is!

Angel Pagan, GiantsIt was about time that San Fran put him on the DL.  Since the team waited so long to actually put him there (he had sat out eight straight games), he will be eligible for reinstatement today (an off-day for the Giants) and could return tomorrow.  Even if the scenario plays out that way, it’s best for owners to exercise caution with him for the remainder of the season.  His current injury is to his back, but don’t forget that he still has a partially torn patella tendon in his knee.  If he wants to get better, he should consider changing his name to Demon Monotheism.  Hey, it can’t hurt to mix things up a little.

Bud Norris, OriolesA pesky groin pull landed the O’s starter on the DL.  He may have to miss a couple of turns in the rotation.  Keep icing that thing, Buddy.

David Wright, MetsThe Mets franchise cornerstone was sent back home from Pittsburgh to undergo tests on his sore shoulder, which revealed no structural damage.  It’s possible he heads to the DL and is kept out through the All-Star break, but for now, it looks like the team will let him rest and remain on the active roster.  It’s a shame, cuz with RBIs in eight of his last nine games, he was really starting to hit the ball well.  Mets fans will continue to stew in their own sh*t.

Francisco Liriano, PiratesHis most recent bullpen session went well and he could be back in the rotation by mid-July.  That’s supposed to be a good thing?

Cliff Lee, PhilliesRemember him?  Kinda seems like he hasn’t pitched in, like, forever.  Well, technically its been six weeks.  The Phillies have been taking extra precaution with him and it seems to be working.  Anything to avoid surgery, right?  There’s hope the ace will be back by the All-Star break.  Be-Lee-ve dat!

ROS Player Rater not that big on Arenado ($0.8 in my 6×6 OPS format), but he’s being offered in my league. How do you value him going forward? I have E5 at 3rd but Arenado would be in the Util conversation with LaRoche.

Thanks Seth good stuff,

I need to make some pick ups these are my needs and whats available on the wire.

1. 2nd base: Current Aviles-Available-Valbuena-Cubs 2nd and 3rd-Ackley and Forsythe

Stay put with Aviles or pick someone up and who if you think I should?

2. SP-Current players I could drop-Whitley-Dice K-Deduno (he’s gone for sure)

Current pitchers to pick up: Happ-Tomlin- Worley- Feldman-Also I only have Mcgee as a closer right now, should I pick up Joe Smith and drop a starter?

Thanks for any help!!

When will Lindstrom return? I thought it was supposed to be in July so we’d hear something by now especially with the Armageddon going on in the ChiSox bullpen in his absence.

Can’t wait to Trumbo: First Blood Part II to catapult me into the top of the power categories I’m currently sneaking up on in his absence. If I can just straighten out my ERA/WHIP, Razzball will have guided me to a second straight title.

Howdy! I have Evan gattis as my catcher, he’s already been ruled out for tonight & there’s a possibility he goes on DL, with being in a weekly lock league I’m in a bind. Risk start gattis & he ends up on DL tomm or wed, or drop him for one of these catchers: Miguel montero, Wilson Ramos, yan Gomes, or mike zunino

@SethDaSportsMan:

Yeah I’d hate to drop him too, actually I just got a trade proposal has me sending jay Bruce for yadier Molina straight up but I’m not a fan of that, I also have Matt Holliday I could either drop Holliday for one of the above catchers for this week- or counter the Bruce / Molina proposal for either Holliday for his starter sal Perez or see if he’ll do Holliday for Molina .

We start 4 OF’er right now it’s Harper, Hunter pence, Michael Brantley & Bruce & have polanco at utility- bench springer & Holliday & benching d wright this week because we won’t play til Friday at earliest (then I put c Santana from DH to 3b where wright was then I added CJ cron to be my DH)

This owner just sent me another trade I trade pedroia .& I’d receive Adam laroche, my 1b is goldy & c Santana , CJ cron are eligible at 1b. My other 2b is dee Gordon who I’ve been using as utility & my SS is Alexei Ramirez , this owner also had Todd Frazier & Jose Reyes but his OF is on the weak side but not that but just could use a boost for his OF; he starts rios, Byrd Brett Gardner & Desmond Jennings & on his bench he has Brock holt, neil walker, & I’m confused he’s benching darvish – you never bench yu lol!

@Bob:

With my roster locking under a half hour, & haven’t heard anything from Gattis’s MRI would you drop Matt Holliday to help me in case gattis does in fact get DL’d these are the options at catcher I’m looking at for this week; Jason Castro, Wilson Ramos, Miguel montero , yan Gomes or mike zunino

I’m in a keeper league where Prince Fielder was a free agent and picked up at $10–drafted for $60 this year. How concerned should one be about his injury for next year? Is he a great value for next year?

Hey do you think a swap of Arenado for Polonco in a 3 year keeper league (this is first year) is a fair trade? Seems like OF is so deep and 3B is thin…

We can only carry over 6 players, so not sure if either is carry-over worthy into next year. Seems like they both have the potential to be top 60 players next year.

Guy dropped Wright and he comes off waivers tomorrow. Already have E5, Donaldson, and Chisenhall. Was thinking Wright could sit until the break and come back healthy for the second half. I have a glut at 3B but it seems to good to pass considering I have #1 waiver priority. Would only take sending Martin Prado packing. Guess I should work on maybe working a deal with someone that needs hot corner help.

Great writeup! SharkArenado was killing it for me prior to the injury, so I’ve been looking forward to getting him back. That said, Seager is now sitting on my OBP league waiver and I’ve got slumping Zimm manning 3B for now. Time to grab Seager or is Arenado the better bet ROS?
