Wow, you can tell it's football season. 9 comments? I've made that many on Ty Wigginton alone.

Everybody must be in last place and gave up Grey, you'll be happy to know my lead is now 14.

@Shogun: Challenging, fun and very frustrating. It's one of my favorite parts of fantasy baseball. I love to scoop people's closers.

@royce!: Also, he's facing the Pirates who struggle against lefties.

@knighttown: Yup, I picked him up and Cust and Teahan. This late in the game there's little reason to hold onto some marginal starters and middle men.

If anyone has the roster spot on a slow day like today you may want to try the Billy Butler, double header pickup and drop. Most of my guys have a travel day but KC is playing two in Oakland and Billy is .383/3HR/9RBI/8Runs in 2 weeks so shouldn't hurt me too bad.

I'm intrigued by the prospect of picking up Wolf for next week. He's 2 starting at home and his dominance at home has somehow transferred since moving from Petco: 3 starts, 2 wins, 18 IP, 1.50 ERA, and 1.17 WHIP (v. NYM, SFO, and STL). Weird. Not that he'll necessarily continue this, but one would look pretty damn brilliant if they picked him up and he did.

@Grey: I'm working on a dissertation, so I'm always on the computer and usually can pick-up players as soon as anything breaks. It's fun keeping tabs on teams' ninths and making speculative pickups. I can see how working on Wall Street could be addictive...

@Shogun: Actually what you're doing now is more strategic. The moment you reach for K-Rod is the moment he gets injured and replaced. Rudy reaches for closers; I never do. And my teams are fine on closers. Though you do have to be near a computer to snag the latest closer.

@Grey: Thanks. I'm not usually this closer-obsessed, but this season I ended up not drafting any and have had to dredge for saves. I'm thinking about bucking convention next year and reaching for a closer, maybe K-Rod (if he sticks with the Angels), just to see if I can make it work. I don't doubt that this isn't an optimal strategy, but I like a challenge.

@Shogun: Yeah, he did too. He's locked in for now. Percival is too, but there's a chance he's still injured or going to reinjure himself.
