Robinson Cano? Please tell me you’re not going to suggest we buy into Robinson Cano? Please, Grey, I was beginning to find you halfway intelligent. Sorry, random italicized voice, I’m a glutton for punishment. Someone has a terrific season the previous year (Pedroia) and I pull back. A player craps the bed in the previous season (Robinson Cano) and I get excited about them. This is the story of my life with women too. Kick me in the nads and I’ll buy you steel-toed boots. (One thing I have learned, never — and I mean never — ask a girl what’s wrong. Sweep that shizz under the rug where it belongs. Or better yet, pretend everything’s fine.) Last year, Cano had a low BABIP for him and his line drive rate. I won’t go too much into the numbers; I know that too many numbers makes your head hurt. But Robinson Cano should’ve hit about .300 last year. He was unlucky and ended up with a .271 average. His line drive rate was on par with his career norms, actually exceeding his 2007 rate when he hit .306. I usually try to avoid players that don’t know how to take a walk, but through his entire career he’s been this player and has done fine with this approach. I don’t see Cano as someone that is going to breakout in 2009 with tremendous power and speed. He is what he is. Think 17/80/.300 hitter. At 2nd base, there’s value in that. Then throw in the fact that he’s usually only a 2nd half player, yet so far this April he’s been hitting the ball really well. So to recap, never ask a girl what’s wrong and buy Cano. Got it? Good! Anyway, here’s some more players to buy and sell this week in fantasy baseball:
BUY
Ryan Franklin – Shouldn’t be on waivers in any league at this point. If he is, for shame.
Ryan Braun – Sticking with the newly established Ryan theme. Braun says he’s fine, but these guys lie all the time. So he is hurting. Okay, let’s assume the worst case scenario is he slumps until June. That’s a horrific slump. A slump that will suck the life out of you. In 2007, he was hitting .222 with one home run entering June. He finished that year with 34 HRs and 15 steals. Granted, he was just called up, but his ability to put up huge numbers in a short time still holds true. Yes, buy a slumping guy who seems to be struggling with an injury. You need alligator blood when the high bettor checks to you.
John Danks – Ooh, Verducci said he’s going to breakdown this year and I’m telling you to go out and get him. Such a rebel! Danks is a third year starter and I do have a penchant for those. In 2008, his walks were down, K/9 up, HRs fell… If not for a Snelly July of ’08, he would’ve been a top 20 starter. This is Danks. This is your brain owning Danks. Yay! Any questions?
Kyle Davies – I hate picking up guys and then not starting him, but I also don’t want to watch a guy breakout on someone else’s team. Tough call with Davies, but you may have to grab him then sit on him. Try the torso, that seems most comfortable.
Jay Bruce – He’s exceptionally gifted. I know, I know. Exceptionally gifted in one hand and a hot Mike Cameron in the other and you want Cameron. Patience is a virtue, or so I’ve read after a delicious General Tsao’s Chicken.
Aaron Hill – Aaron Hill’s Fan Club meetings got a few more members this week. When I asked Rudy if his love affair with Freddy Sanchez would ever end, he said no. Then rethought, and said maybe for Aaron Hill. Somebody’s got wandering eyes!
SELL
Ichiro Suzuki – Stress free, Ichiro returned with a home run. Now sell this schmohawk. No, I don’t think you should sell him for a bag of buttered popcorn and a Buddy Biancalana rookie card, but if you can get a valuable piece, do it.
Heath Bell – Really I could put any top closer here. If you need a piece for your team, the first guy you should be looking to trade is a closer. They’re expendable.
Armando Galarraga – “He’s near the league leaders in Wins, ERA, WHIP and he makes a terrific Eggs Benedict. Poaching eggs is not easy.” The preceding was you trying to trade Galarraga to one of your leaguemates.
Jordan Schafer – He’s struckout 10 times in the last 15 ABs. That’s brilliantly bad. Not bad as in good, but bad as in bad. Imagine he gets 500 ABs and strikes out 450 times. That would be cool.
Emilio Bonifacio – Nobody puts Bonifacio in the corner!

couldn’t agree more about cano … except my one good eye tells me that he should haver more power .
i went with danks , on the premise that i’ll jettison him when he goes down …. right now , i’m hoping that day is a long way away .
Cano just hit another bomb. I think he’s officially back to fantasy relevance.
I agree with your picks Grey. I really like Cano this year. I am glad though that I sold Braun before game 1. I hate waiting out great players who don’t play great.
Regarding Franklin, do you like him or Corpas better?
also , does anyone else root for non-life threatening injuries ?
would really like to see hoffpauir replace d. lee .
before you guys rush to judgement ==> i used to go to the track and scream “die , die !!” at the front-runners coming down the stretch .
so , i guess i’ve mellowed some .
I’m enjoying paddling my $9 Cano.
i just heard a nasty rumor that matt holliday could be pursued by the red sox…as a holliday owner i hope this to be true. has anyone else caught wind of this?
http://www.bebo.com/FlashBox.jsp?FlashBoxId=5590655142&
figured I would post it well Bonifacio is still sort of relevant.
only got one closer should I pull the trigger on sending ubaldo for heath? (i get heath)
@albertalbert: He likes Franklin.
@nick m.:
sticking with the rumor that i started ==> holliday will be in left field for the mets on july 27th … right after the yankees series .
Need some more IP in the form of a waiver wire starter; which of the following expendable hitters do I ditch: F. Lopez, Swisher, Fowler, Ian Stewart, E. Andrus (my team is otherwise pretty speed deficient though)?
Starters available: Cook, Washburn, Stultz, Davies
I was leading Davies, but his next start is @TEX. Cook is @LAD. Stultz @ HOU. Wash hosts TB.
@big o: Stop joking, you don’t have one good eye.
@albertalbert: Franklin
@Steve: Hehe
@nick m.: Haven’t heard anything on it.
@Eric W: Emilio! Go for Heath.
@sean: I’d go with Davies, but don’t start him there. Lose Fowler.
May this be the last time we get a reference to the infinitely-vague Obama slogan. It’s overplayed, under-funny, and even less funny once Obama decides to tax fantasy baseball winnings and fire team owners who pick up Eckstein in a mixed league.
More relevant-like, I have Braun in a keeper league, and I am indeed worried:
http://www.disabledlistinformer.com/?p=768
Gery, a tough name for you: Carlos Gómez.
He is struggling right now. No PT, no bats, no nothing. Not really that young(24), not selective and not a really good contact guy. He might be homeless man’s Crawford if he can swipe if he could get on bases or in the matter get in the hitters-box. Nonetheless, a somewhere sexy name(who was actually improves month by month last season) sits on the wire in deep leagues.
Will you try to get him? Do you believe that he can learn to improve his K/BB? As a deep dynasty team’s final hitter, Billy Butler or Gomez? Or just avoid and look elsewhere?
Thanks for the help.
Wandy just got dumped in my league, Rhyme game Wandy or Randy?
@BingoIsMyName-O: Tend to agree on the title. Went a little hacky. You’ll forgive me.
re: Braun — I do like the DL Informer and almost put Braun in the Sell category. I’m concerned, but I think he can still put up huge numbers in a short period of time. It’s not ideal, obviously.
@Quintero: I’d go with Gomez over Butler. I think he’ll be a mess on Ks, might struggle for ABs, but I like his upside better.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Wandy
Same guy just dropped Baker as well.
Rank Lilly, Baker and Wandy and thanks for the advice
@Grey:I wonder what kind of return nervous Braun owners would expect
Ludwick has 5Hr’s 13RBI platooning, someone needs to tell Mr. Manager to play him every day
Am I the only one stashing Bonifacio through this three day slump?
Sub question: Does anyone disagree with Grey about Carpenter’s ability to rebound from the oblique injury?
Start your journey NOW my lord, your queen is waiting!
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Wandy, Lilly, Baker
@Doug Ault: McCann and Cruz? Hamels? Ludwick and a surefire closer? Depends I guess how badly they’re concerned.
@Grey: @Doug Ault: Maybe Braun owners can get lucky and get a Ludwick for him
I still own Bonifacio but I doubt he makes it through the weekend. I’ve moved on.
I was offered Kinsler straight up for Braun yesterday and almost took it. Hope I don’t regret that.
@Grey: I just offered some guy Galarraga and G Atkins, we’ll see how nervous he is.I was going to offer Holliday, but Atkins is a better start point
I still own Bonifacio for the time being. He may not last through the weekend though.
This Braun crap disgusts me. I almost took an offer giving me Kinsler for Braun straight up yesterday. Hope I don’t regret my choice.
@BigFatHippo: Your joke about Ludwick vs Braun is not funn BFH……I’m probably going to end up wishing I had Ludwick instead.
@BigFatHippo:Ludwick had another good day
I think the chance to get ludwick in a trade is over for anything reasonable
Scot Shields, Maybin are dropped, drop Hawkins for which one? Over a season, is Fontenot or Hill better?
@I’m Keith Hernandez:Ludwick just vaulted me into 1st in my 10×10, and that’s with Hamilton, Quentin and McLouth having done squat so far
@I’m Keith Hernandez – I was just thinking the same thing about the Great and Powerful Cthulhthian god of lud. I can’t think of any good reason that he is in a platoon.
@Falcon – I am still stashing Bonafacio in two leagues; a couple of days on the pine will get him in high gear again. At any rate, I hate getting the players with 15 minutes of fame in their 14th minute.
Gray – Is the Reyes experiment over? Not Jose, but Anthony. I believe that you were conditionally high on him. Two very mediocre starts, not many K’s.
Marmol has the save opportunity. Looks like Gregg might be out of a job. Should I cute Matt Lindstrom for Marmol or stay put?
@BigFatHippo: ive got the rp jinx,perez gives up a 2run shot to soriano,
I meant “Cut” not “cute” LOL
@EricB: gregs knee wont allow him to pitch every day,i think you still see a 60-40 split but better numbers from marmol
@EricB: Marmol is on waivers!? Holy crap pick his ass up!
@AL KOHOLIC: For Franklin owners, Perez’s BS is bittersweet. On the one hand, Franklin loses his save opp, but on the other hand, the likelihood of Franklin losing the spot to Perez just went down a bit.
Jordan Schafer looks bad right now, but he’s been able to hit LHP so far. I’m a sucker for him so I’m willing to give him a lot more of a leash.
The way Joba pitched today, I hope they test his blood alcohol level before he drives home from the park…
GoshDarn Gregg! What’s the point of holding onto this benchtoad? So po’d right now. Sweet Lou can suck it.
Venti venting over.
Looking forward to the first half-inning of the Phils game tonite which will be broadcast in silence. Now that’s a cool tribute to Mr. Kalas. Not too sure about the casket behind home plate, tho. That’s just creepy.
@Endless Summer: really,walks out the gazoo,hope hammels does a bit better tonight
@PhillyYorker: That is a nice tribute, and lol on the last line.
@Paulie Allnuts: “[Tony] said, ‘Trust me.’ And I do,” Ludwick said. “Look at what happened last year. I trusted him, and I played.”
Surprised no ones mentioned Corpas. Read today that the Rockies are going with him now as the closer. Hurdle screwed me, dropped Corpas once Street got the job out of spring training,. There’s not a worse feeling in fantasy baseball then when someone picks up a former closer of yours.
Chris Ray’s quieted down since his first few bad appearances. I’ve been keeping an eye on him and Ryan Perry in DET. Who else is out there? I picked up Franklin but I am good on saves.
@Den: Ray, Corpas, and Balfour were three guys I targeted as inevitably becoming their team’s closers.
Would you trade Roy Oswalt and Brad Ziegler for Lidge and Franklin/Corpas (would be picking one of them off the waiver wire)? My other SPs are Halladay, Peavy, Hamels, Felix, Liriano, Wang, Javier Vazquez, Scherzer, Gallaraga and Morrow is my only other closer.
@Doug Ault – Last year I became frustrated early in the season with Tony’s manipulations of Lud, and I made the biggest mistake of my fantasy season – I cut him, mainly because he didn’t have a history of keeping up that pace, and because I hate dealing with platooing in fantasy. This year, the Lud is secure. But it still doesn’t make a bit of sense to platoon him. Then again, the only managerial championship I ever won was leading my younger sisters to victory in the G.A.L.
@PhillyYorker – you almost got me there! I am a Mets fan, but Kalas was a great announcer with one of the most distinctive voices in the media. I will watch the tribute tonight. The nicest thing is how warmly the players spoke of him.
@Den: Thanks for the heads up on Corpas,he was available in one of my leagues
Is Street worth a roster spot, someone dropped him….
What’s the best pointer to guys who will score runs? Good OBP in a good lineup?
@Paulie Allnuts: Trading Cliff Lee at the all star break might have cost me a championship last year, shizz happens.Owning Milton Bradley is a pain, you never know if he’s in or out, I’d have prefered he stuck to board games
@PhillyYorker: re; Gregg — apparently Marmol was warming up, as the Cubs were down by one. Then they went up on Soriano’s donk, so Piniella brought in Marmol rather than warming up Gregg in a hurry.
Moral: Gregg, still the closer, but on a short leash.
Would you drop B.Butler for Teahen, Headley or S.Hairston.or Barden? Barden had another nice game today but never heard his name before.
(12 team mixed,ROTO,this would be for my UTIL spot)
@Doug Ault: I like that for you.
@Zebo: Hold Hawkins. Hill
@Paulie Allnuts: Ugh, yeah, I think he’s done-zo.
@EricB: You should own both. Not cut Lindstrom.
@Den: Someone mentioned Corpas in this morning’s comments.
@Endless Summer: Ha!
Wheeler’s in front of Balfour.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Yeah, Street and Corpas should be owned.
@Steve: Top of the lineup, good OBP.
@JavaBeanHead: Go with Headley for the weekend.
my current closers are qualls and gonzo. swap either for corpas or franklin?
swap choo for fukudome, cameron or duncan?
Baron, I did see that after I googled Gregg and Cubs. An explanation I’ll except but that doesn’t make it any less frustrating.
And, in case anyone thought I was joking, they did have Kalas’ casket behind home plate today and invited fans to come down to pay their respects. I know it’s a common thing to do for people of note but it doesn’t make it any less creepy.
Longoria is back and you’re gonna be in trouble, heya heya, Longoria’s back.
@Den Ditto on Corpas. Thanks; I needed a closer badly in my 14 team H2H.
@Doug Ault – For Milton Bradley, it’s just a game! (I couldn’t resist, but prolly shoula
@Gray – Reyes gone, Corpus picked up. Thanks again. You should rent yourself out as a Personal Fantasy Trainer. Pretty soon, we’ll all be little Mr. Roto’s! Get 11 of the top RCL managers from this year and challenge the Great and Wonderful Berry. He’ll be sucking dirt by the end of the year.
I was offered Bruce for Emilio and I consider pulling the trigger BUT I don´t see that much of a upside with Bruce not to mention he flat out struggles right now. The guy had one semi-good season and isn´t exactly looking like picking up where he left off. The second reason is me believing I could get a better value for Emilio considering he stays hot at least a few days or not considering anything, I COULD get a better value than Bruce offers. What you think?
@Grey: Wheeler has a three year deal and will be the Rays long-term closer. I wouldn’t bother having him on my team until he is named the closer. Ray has much better stuff than Sherrill, Street is Street, and Balfour’s velocity is down but hopefully it picks up and he goes back to th sick K:BB and K/9 rates he had last year.
@paulzone: Swap Choo for any of them. Hold on closers.
@anoraxx: You want Bruce between him and Emilio.
So, Grey, you basically think that Emilio has no chance putting up at least half of the numbers he is putting up right now?
duncan has my interest, but that crowded OF…Fukudome could be a first half playa…cameron, well, his AVG will plummet…makes picking just one difficult, no?
I kind of have been giving some thought of buying Armando Gallaraga lately. I like him a lot as a buy target, mainly because I think a lot of his owners will be trying to sell.
Watching both of his starts this year, I think he is a lot more improved as a pitcher this season. I am starting to think he will have similar ERA/whip numbers as last year with improved K numbers. Some of his breaking pitches just seem to have a bit more bite this year
@anoraxx: Jay Bruce will still hold value even if he has a horrible first half of the season. Bonifacio won’t. How much more woul you want for someone who had one great week followed with one bad week(I think he is 2-20 with 9 K in his last few games) so far?
OK, pulled the trigger. I am hoping Emilio goes mega cold.
My team is doing work thus far tonight…A Ramirez 3/4 1R 3RBI Utley 1/1 1R 1HR 3RB Reyes 1/1 1R. This alone puts me up 6-4 when down 4-5.
Marco…Polo. Who does this guy think he is? Another dinger.
Who does Vlad’s injury help?
What pitching prospects do you think should be owned in order. zimmerman, hanson, bailey, romero, bowden, porcello, buckholz, masterson
@anoraxx- I hate Bonifacio. He’s numbers are going to vastly decline. I have watch his games and he’s getting so many infield singles or bloopers. This will not continue. However he should still be a source of runs as he bats atop of a good marlins batting team
in for a penny … in for a pound
even guthrie can’t blow this one 7 – 0 in the 2nd
oops … make that 7 – 2
@big o: Penny is killing me!
Anyone got an opinion on Carlos Pena for buy or sell? Just hit his 6th homer.
@paulzone: Fukudome for now, then switch him out for a hot guy in a few weeks.
@anoraxx: Emilio isn’t a very good hitter, and Bruce is.
@Maitland: His Ks are off the charts right now due to a sample size. He’s going to regress. Will he become unusable a’la Ian Snell? No, I just think he’s not going to be as good as he’s shown. He’s more of a third to fourth starter than a 1st to 2nd.
@Nick: Nice!
@Doc: The doctors who will be paid to work on him? Will help Juan Rivera and Gary Matthews (is he still around?).
@Martin: Masterson, Zimmermann, Romero, Porcello, Hanson… Hanson moves up if he gets called up.
@Maitland: I think he can hit 40 HRs again. His average will drop out at some point, but his power is for real.
7 – 4 … end of the 2nd .
guthrie’s a bum .
My two starters tonight: Chris Young and Brad Penny, thank you, hold your applause.
Grey, I have an embarrassing confession to make: I listened to Karabaloney rather than you re: starting Guthrie tonight vs. boston. I still like him a lot at home against lesser lineups, but I had a feeling he wouldn’t fare well at Fenway.
@VanHammersly: How dare you!
***
Braun!
@Grey: Lannan!
@VanHammersly: Mike Moustakas!
@Grey: You prescient mofo. Moustakas is holding the Blue Rocks’ three hole like Brad McCann wishes he did.
@Grey: Meche keeps this up I’ll never bench him again.
Sonofabench!
Thanks Grey for all your previous advice.
A new question for you.
-Would you pick up Masterson for his 2+ starts and drop porcello?
There’s other SP options available for me to pickup after Masterson goes back to the pen like Pettitte,Wolf,A.Sanchez,B.Anderson,Cahill,Hanson (minors) , hopefully anyway.
-Another question, S.Baker clears waivers tomorrow. I could try to claim him, would you drop J.Sanchez,Parra,or Kawakami for him?
I also have Motte and C.Perez and Soriano (ATL). I was planning on holding the STL RP until they establish some sort of consistency.
phew, that’s all for now . <3
ps:I made this comment in an older article, meant to put it in this one. Sorry about that. Wish I had MOD privileges so I could delete or move it.
Took Cano in the 14th rd of my big money leauge… hated the pick even in the 14th at the time, but had to!
paying off right now….
Kemp batting 4th, Eithier 5th!?!?!?! Joe Torre did someone spike your drink!? I love it!
Valverde takes my Hawkins save and Oswalt win =(
Hmmm Iannetta’s start has me itching to push some buttons. John Baker is available and he’s showing he can hit for average and score some runs. A flash of power even against the Nats tonight. Wait it out? Cut and run? Roll with the hometeam? For extra credit, discuss how his history with the Albuquerque Isotopes influences your decision using “‘topes.”
lot of ballplayers not earning their pay today
@big o: Mine are getting a bonus!
Free beer in the clubhouse for all, and jelly donuts.
@LargeObeseRiverhorse: Not the urbandictionary jelly donut, I hope.
@big o: @BigFatHippo: A lot of pitchers getting hammered today. Seems like they are all on my team, but then I look around and seems like everyone other than Meche was hit hard. Guys giving up GS’s to likes of Zobrist.
@p0rk burn: Ha! Not unless they really want one.
I’ll take a jelly donut and a fifth of anything, to go!
anyone buying that we might be seeing the return of the old Verlander? his last start was decent and so far so good tonight…
how do you feel about scutaro? rate: burriss, scutaro, bartlett.
@BKK: Had Shields, Hamels starting, left Meche on the bench (insert curse word of choice).
My hitters saved the day, yay. Made a mad dash to 3rd in both leagues.
@dtv: Scuter?
He’s no Eckstein, play him at roving shortstop if your league has that.
@JavaBeanHead: I’d drop Porcello for Masterson. Drop Sanchez for Baker.
@p0rk burn: Stick Iannetta.
@yoshinorimike: For a start or two or three maybe, but he’s not a 3.50 ERA pitcher, more like a 4.00. But ERA is fickle, he might go on a roll.
@dtv: Burriss if you want steals. Scutaro if you want a temp hot hand with some pop.
sanchez throwing a one-hitter at poor danny haren .
wish i didn’t decide to wait until june to get the mlb package .
@Grey: What do you make of Gil Meche?
Suddenly a veteran, he gets better every year. Is it for real? Do you start him every outing? I didn’t vs. Texas, dammit.
anyone watching the giants game ?
sanchez out after 6.2 and 95 pitches .
but why is haren done ? he didn’t even throw 80 pitches .
@yoshinorimike: Thanks, Verlander was my only bright spot then “Wham” 5 earned runs. What evs. Not like I wasn’t warned to stay away.
@big o: They pinch hit Tony Clark with 2 on 2 out. Good move, bad result.
@Grey: I don’t suppose you have any use whatsoever for Cody Ross? How about for a short stint against the Nats (Olsen,Cabrera), Pitt (Olendorf, karstens, Maholm) and maybe Philly (park, moyer, blahton).
@BigFatHippo:
haren had 2 more innings left in him .
clark must have something on the team’s owner .
hip …. you think that was a good more there ?
i wonder what danny’s thinking right about now .
3 starts and only one run of support .
Stephen Drew hurt his hamstring tonight. Does anyone have any additional info?
franklin is available…my droppables are: Sandoval/Ianetta/Ankiel/M. Bradley…although i just picked up Bradley and want to hang onto him as a fifth outfielder
i could also pick up Baker and drop both catchers…input?
Apologies in advance for the language, but fuck you Jason Kubel.
Prick has done nothing since I drafted him. So I drop him and he does this to me.
And no, that didn’t make me feel better.
@Grey:
you make the call (please) ====> will yovanni get a quality start vs johan and the mets , or should i just wait ?
@BigFatHippo:
didn’t intend to come off as calling you out on the haren decision ….
hope you didn’t take it that way .
just needed the under (7.5) in that game to make up for my earlier indiscretion ====> damn you , alfonso soriano !!!
Dodger hitters can bite me as well. Where was this four innings ago?
Giving Google Chrome a whirl tonight. It has some cool features. I think I still prefer Firefox, but it is still better than IE. Anybody have any thoughts Chrome?
@Steve: You own Wolf, I’m guessing.
if you wanted to trade away broxton and/or bell what kind of value do they have…who could you get for them…or is it better to package them up to sweeten the deal?
@BigFatHippo: I think Meche’s a reliable 4th fantasy starter. 4 ERA, Ks, just okay WHIP, no upside. There’s a place for it, but I prefer a bit of upside with a late starter. He’s like Guthrie with some more Ks.
@Pops: Just day-to-day with some tightness.
@big o: I’d start him.
@BKK: Is Chrome available yet for Macs?
@Grey: The new Safari beta for Mac is pretty nice.
Can we assume that Hawkins’ save was a one-time thing and it’s safe to drop him?
@danimal35: You can get a third outfielder, 2nd tier starter or 3rd or 1st baseman.
@Steve: Better than Firefox? Yeah, lose Hawkins.
I traded Schafer for Dice-K two days ago. I was feeling pretty good about the deal, until of course Dice-K went on the DL. Is it still a good deal?
@Grey: No, they are currently developing it. How about my Cody Ross question?
@danimal35: I traded Broxton and Uggla for Chase! It was awesome, people love closers illogically.
@Grey: FYI, “While the world is still waiting for Google to officially release a Mac and Linux version of Google Chrome, the good folks at CodeWeavers have already created a Linux and Mac port of Google Chrome known as Crossover Chromium.
Google Chrome is built with open source code from Chromium.”
I think I’d wait for the real deal though.
You don’t like Safari. I son has a Mac and prefers Safari to Firefox.
@DrEasy: I’d prefer Dice-K t Schafer, yeah.
@BKK: Cody Ross is like the hitter equivalent to Dave Bush. Really boring numbers, end of the season they look fine, but you never wanna own them.
@BKK: Really? Safari to Firefox? Hmm… I might have to try Safari again. Firefox slows everything down.
@Grey: Well, you could always give Crossover Chromium a try. It looks alot like Chrome. If you don’t like just uninstall it.
Re: Cody, I picked him up already as a reserve OF. It will be only until FLA hooks up with the Mets in a week.. I figure with the starting pitching he is facing in the next week and the Marlins on a roll, he’s worth the gamble.
@Grey: @BKK: I normally use Camino on my Mac (Firefox on my PC at work) which i really like but I’ve been really enjoying the new Safari.
Seems the Dodgers have lost a little trust in Wade, no? Thought they might have used him today. Dropped him for Belisario.
Still have Hawkins. He’s not even a solid Holds option, is he?
@Steve: @Grey: Bruney or Nunez?
@Steve: Camino looks pretty good too. Might give it a try.
@Grey: drop Marmol for (the shamefully still available in my league) Franklin? Pinella does seem pretty stubborn about Gregg, but I wager Franklin could blow up and lose the job at any point; in fact I bet the odds are about even on Marmol taking over from Gregg, versus someone taking over from Franklin… no?
@yoshinorimike: Stick with Marmol. He’s getting saves at least, the St Louis sitch is a mess I dont want to touch. I’m personally waiting until it gets sorted out.
@Steve: Okajima!
@Grey: Looking to exploit the Vlad owner (has Endy at RF). I think O know the answer to this, but is Hart + Felipe for J-Roll completely outrageous?
@Steve: I think I know…
This is my 12-team H2H.
Traded Bell for Victorino yesterday. I feel pretty good about that one, considering I got Bell in the 16th round.
i hate catchers. anyway, i have ianetta now. drop for baker in fla who is batting 2nd and is off to a decent start?
update on my filthy catcher question. napoli and baker are FAs in my league. which one for ianetta??
Corpas just replaced Street as the closer.
Manny Corpas, RP COL
News: Rockies manager Clint Hurdle said before Friday’s game against the Dodgers that he was putting Manny Corpas back in the closer’s role after a few poor outings by Huston Street, who has allowed four runs and eight hits in 2 2/3 innings over his first four appearances — including a pair of home runs.
How do you think he ranks amongst the other RPs. better than say Ryan Franklin?
@paulzone: nap no ave. will hit some hr`s,baker will hit better and score plenty of runs
Should I deal Corey Hart and Erik Bedard for Scott Kazmir and Jacoby Ellsbury?
I drafted hitting in Rds 1-9 (Wright, Pedroia, Kemp, Vlad, Soto, Votto, Bruce, Tulowitzki, Werth). I felt I was a little light on RBIs, and obviously with Vlad on the DL now, that problem could be magnified. My rotation is Vazquez, Harden, Myers, Slowey, Weaver, Kawakami with closers Bell and Qualls.
How would you guys look to add some RBIs to the lineup? Is there a player I can target who might come cheaply? How about a Micah Hoffpauir or Chris Duncan? Would really appreciate any insights.
@Steve: Nunez
@yoshinorimike: I’d want Franklin and Marmol. Gotta find a way to have both.
@Steve: Hehe, get Rollins.
@Matt: Nice trade!
@paulzone: I’d hold Iannetta for a little while more.
@zubaz4fans: Thanks for the heads up! I wouldn’t move Corpas above Franklin. They’re close, but I’d like to see Corpas close some games first.
@Maitland: I wouldn’t do that trade unless you were desperate for extra steals from Ellsbury.
@Eric H.: Not sure who is available, but out of those two I’d grab Duncan.
FYI, I also changed your username since Eric was taken. Feel free to change it to something else if you like.
Masterson or J. Zimmerman. Who has more value for the whole year.
@Grey: That username works fine for me. Thanks.
I’m not necessarily desperate for extra steals, but feel like I want steals because my main steals guys are #3 hitters…Hanley, Mclouth and Rios. Hart barely cracks my lineup, so having the steals/runs option on the bench I think would be better in weeks where I need steals.
Juan Rivera i think is suspended 50 days for violating the drug policy. The angles OF is going down
nevermind i think its a different Juan Rivera (damn those spanish names)
Grey, cut the Bourn ultimatum for Josh Fields/ Aviles?My current need is steals, but I am also lacking in RBIS/HR (just not as much). How would you rank Aviles and Fields side by side. I currently have Hill, Davis, and Cabrera as my starters. Danks!
I’ve been trying to think of a way to get saves without being the shmuck that trades Victorino for Bell (great deal, by the way). My OF is Beltran, Bay, Cruz, Dukes, Bruce, with Rasmus on the bench. It’s great. I also have Ian Stewart, who might eventually get some elligibility in OF. If I trade Bay for Pence and Franklin, I don’t feel like I’m losing much. Am I wrong?
@Martin: Zimmermann
@Maitland: Oh, if you’re not playing Hart, then do the deal.
@johnson21: I’d want Fields.
@Tom: No, I don’t mind that trade.
Also, I have Motte to back up Franklin (which might mean nothing with Perez up now)
@Grey: Should I start Shawn Hill today against the Phils??
@vinko: Nope
Which is better, the trade I mentioned above, or Motte and Bay for Wilson and Pence?
I feel like Perez could take the closer’s job within a month, and I’m left with motte and franklin. Is Wilson more secure?
@Tom: I prefer the Brian Wilson one.
So, I’m trying to figure out which of these closers I actually want on my roster: Franklin, Perez, Villanueva, or Aardsma. I’m currently holding Villanueva and Aardsma, but one of the two needs to go in favor of a starter (either Maholm or E. Jackson–leaning towards Maholm after yet another solid outing), and I’d consider swapping the other for either Perez or Franklin (Motte is, illogically, taken in my league). Otherwise, I have Corpus, Bell, and Broxton. I really want someone who has the best chance of holding the spot down long term.
I don’t think the Aardsma situation is good despite the fact that he’s pitched so well, because at best he’s going to be sharing saves with Morrow, eating up innings without getting me saves on a regular basis (see last night). I can’t see how anyone with the Cards meets my criteria. I could make a solid argument for Motte, Franklin, or Perez taking the role alone (I’d favor Perez), and Larussa is about as unpredictable as they come. Most likely that is going to end up being a situational combination for the rest of the year. Villanueva seems like the best bet long term because I have zero faith in Hoffman staying healthy for more than a week at a time and Coffey has imploded every time a team’s tried him at closer. But Villanueva is currently doing all he can to blow any shot he has at continuing to close. What a mess.
My pitching so far has bombed a little. I’m in a 12 team 5×5 roto league. Volquez and Cueto on the same team was a bad idea, but they both dropped so late in the draft I went for it. I still have Beckett, Shields and Wainwright. Long story short, I’m happy to see Snell pitching well right now (game not over, hope I don’t jinx it). Is there any possibility he approaches 2007 numbers?
One last question about replacing Vlad.
Who would you prefer out of Cust, Cameron and Duncan?
I believe my team will be very strong in the AVG department, so I’m not too terrified of taking on Cust’s sure-to-regress average.
@Grey: (un?)fortunately my pitching is stacked: Oswalt, Shields, Billingsley, Josh Johnson, Wainwright, Cain, Danks, Wandy, Broxton, Valverde, and Marmol. I don’t see a hole there, do you? But with Valverde being a bit lame, and Marmol not winning the job yet, I could use Franklin.
I do have Cameron Maybin riding the bench right now (about the only conceivably dropable position player I have).
Drop Maybin or a pitcher? Or am I getting too greedy to go for Franklin?
A hole like Josh getting pummelled by a grand salami? Dammit, have him too.
@Tom: Wilson is more secure, by a lot.
@G-RAM: Lose them for Franklin and Maholm.
@Tom: From start to start, anything’s possible, but the chances of him approaching ’07 seem slim.
@Eric H.: Cust
@yoshinorimike: Lose Maybin for Franklin, if you don’t have a reason to play him.
Anybody know if the wind’s blowing out at Wrigley?
Bruce vs houston (Wandy)
or
Jd Drew vs Baltimore (Eaton)
Im thinking going with Drew today.
Who should I start for next week in my weekly league. I can start 2 out of these 6 pitchers.
Meche @ CLE
Davies vs. DET
Slowey @ CLE
Scherzer vs. SF
Shields @ SEA
Young @ SF
Normally, Shields is a no-brainer. He’s given up 7 HRs in his last 7 games (last Sept and this year). I was leaning towards starting Meche and Young. Who should I start?
@Grey: Done! This better work out or I want my subscription money back.
@BigFatHippo: Never mind, found it. Don’t start Lohse today!
http://www.vegasinsider.com/mlb/weather/
Forget who posted this the other day but thanks, just bookmarked it.
@agarthered: Drew sounds right.
@Eric: Young and Shields
Drop J.Sanchez for T.Hanson?
@Schatzi: Did Hanson get the call? <– Not sarcastic, Cust askin’. If so, then yes. If not, then nah.
nope, not yet, but J.J. Reyes stunk it up today.
In my 12 team mixed Yahoo league I’ve got Chipper Jones. Who do you like best as a bench player/Chipper insurance – Carlos Guillen, Mark DeRosa, Felipe Lopez? This is the order I rank them, but would appreciate feedback. Thanks.
Hanrahan just blew another save.
@Grey: Headley or Blalock for a bench spot?
Is there anyone else in line for saves after Hanrahan?
I’ve got too many OFs: Bruce (bench), Crawford, Hart, Hamilton, Dukes, Pence
I need a MI to replace Scutaro, since I don’t think he’s gonna be this hot for long, and someone just dropped Alexei. Thing is I’m not sure how waivers work on ESPN – he’s not available until Tuesday, so I think I have to have a bench spot for him, which I don’t currently have.
Thoughts on which OF to drop?
I’m thinking the Burriss “stolen base run” has started. Just an FYI.
In the 2 spot, he is getting on base more too.
This just in: Wang is kinda having a bad start to the 2009 season.
The entire Indians lineup has gotten a hit now and it’s the 2nd inning.
@Schatzi:
I don’t think Hanson is up until Mid May. JoJo gets another start to save the Bravos some money.
After Wang blew up again today, I think Philip Hughes comes up first.
I had Wang’s first start. I traded him to the guy who’s absorbed his next two starts. Wang polluted my ERA and WHIP but he nuclear bombed the guy I traded with. I don’t think I will be doing any more business with him this year.
I wouldn’t touch Wang with a ten foot pole!
Girardi pulls Wang in the 2nd!
Any ideas for the New York headlines tomorrow?
Indians pound Wang!
tomorrows headline, Yankees Wang gets molested
@BigFatHippo: “Yankees Need a Circumcision”
Headline…..Bronx bombers drop their Wang
As-drubal! Now Jose Lopez needs to get his MI self correct.
First Kubel. Now The Dribble.
If I drop someone, pick ‘em up. They’re guaranteed to hit a grand slam inside two days.
Indians Say
Your Chin, My Wang!
How many innings for Swisher today ??
Officially time to ditch Aaron Cook as a viable fifth starter?
wow, drop wang? should I even ask?
JC Romero? WOWOWOWOWOW WANGGGGG!
ricky romero, my b, i’m drinkin….
@Bob: Lopez, DeRosa, Guillen
@BigFatHippo: Headley
@Maitland: Probably Saul Rivera, but I don’t think it’s at that stage yet.
@Lost: Drop Scutaro for Alexei.
@Billy: Ha!
@BigFatHippo: Ha!
@sean: Yeah, Cook’s cooked.
@Tony Y: Lose Wang.
On a team where I own Wang Duke is available as a free agent. I also have Corey Wade who is now on the DL until the 27th at the earliest. The same team also has both Jurrjens and Kawakami.
So out of Duke, Marquis, Sanchez (who clears waievers tomorrow), Wolf, and Parra who gets the call? Dropping Wade and Wang would let me pick up two of these bums but Jurrjens and Kawakami are expendable if an upgrade is out there.
In general news, Marmol pitches a 1-2-3 7th and Pinella brings in Gregg to give up the lead in the 8th? What the hell is wrong with these people. Hopefully this seals the deal for C-mol.
@p0rk burn: Don’t even think Marquis, he’s always good in April, then blows up.
I would think Wolf and Parra but don’t own either, tough call.
@p0rk burn: Wolf and Parra.
@RT: While Hughes is doing well, Kennedy’s done better so far this year. 16 K in 12 IP, and a FIP of 0.93. Of course with Kennedy I think that translates to a 7+ ERA in the majors…
@p0rk burn: Yeah, great call thereNOT.
Marmol gave up back to back doubles plus a walk to tie the game at the start of the 8th. Gregg came in and shut down the next 6 batters.
Everyone, repeat after me. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer. Kevin Gregg is the Cubs closer.
You got it yet?
Pronk had another nice one today: 3 runs, a dinger.
A schmohawk mirage, or is there somethin’ to it?
@Freak: Hah thanks for the correction. I obviously didn’t look that closely. I saw Marmol came in and no runs were scored and called it good. You have shamed me into accepting Gregg as the closer.
But I’m not dropping Marmol.
Wolf > Davies?
Howie quickly would you guys pull the trigger if offered Hunter Pence for Heath Bell? I’d be down to one closer in a 12-team mixed 5×5, but I can make those saves up later, right?
Which SS & 3B duo would you rather have :
Jose Reyes & Aramis Ramirez
or
Hanley Ramirez and A-Rod
???
@royce!:
Agreed, but I think Kennedy has fallen out of favour a little bit.
from Rotoworld “We’ll keep you notified if the Yanks decide to scratch Wang”
@Grey: Drop Fowler for Hermida?
@Doc: Ha!
For real?
@BigFatHippo: Yea.
You would have loved today’s game! Cubs and Cards fans were going at it like crazed wombats. I saw three fights. I think it was the best game I’ve ever been to.
@Doc: No, I hated today’s game!
Where’s the bunt in the seventh in a tie game with 2 on and no outs? Ahhh, Tony, sometimes you mystify me……….
@Grey:
thanks for the call on yovanni .
i probably would have let that 7 K performance slip by .
“There’s a cold wind a blowin, down the Cayahoga River.
Roll on Cleveland roll on………”
At least there’s that!
“There’s a cold wind a blowin, down the Cuyahoga River.
Roll on Cleveland roll on………”
At least there’s that!
@p0rk burn: And you shouldn’t, Marmol is a great pitcher who will give you great stats. But to expect more than the occasional save chance is unrealistic.
Edit: Misspelling
@BigFatHippo: Hah!
@BigFatHippo:
thanx for posting the link to the weather .
saves many steps for me …. using msn weather .
though every mlb city has been plugged in , by now .
standing O by the hometown phillies fans …. for lidge , who just walked off after blowing save …. record stands at 47 .
@big o: Thank someone else, can’t remember who but I remembered he posted Vegasinsider. Can’t take credit for that one, full credit to Razzball!
@hoppie: He’s worth a flier if he’s hot. Beware the big head though.
@sean: I’d prefer Wolf.
@Eric H.: I’d want Pence.
@Vince: Hanley/A-Rod
@JR: Fowler
@big o: You’re welcome.
what a selfish little prick that greinke is !
(soria sits and watches) .
I got some mad props from my league tonight for drafting Wandy. Dude pitched a gem tonight… 7 IP 10 Ks 0 ER 0.57 WHIP. Thankfully I won’t be the only one I know on the Wandy Bandwagon anymoer. Thanks for the great advice.
Scherzer facing the Giants tomorrow so I want to take him off the DL. Planned on dropping E. Jackson but his line tonight (so far) is 6 shutout innings.
At the same time I got double Sonofabenched by Choo and Stewart, a combined 2-for-7, 2HR, 3R, 5RBI while Good Face and Alexei Ramirez go 0 fer 9.
So who do I drop to make room for Scherzer?
-Edwin Jacskon
-Bonificio
-Stewart
-Choo
-Justin Upton (better lately eh?)
Can pick up two of the following who would you suggest:
Jason Kubel
Arron Hill
Felipe Lopez
Fred Lewis
Dexter Fowler
Bad night for my squad, most players taking the collar.
Did load both of my DL spots with some SP insurance for later
in the summer. Stashed Smoltz and Escobar. Very shallow league,
so I decided to ride a hot hand rather then sit and wait on my SSSS (shortstops sh!tt!ng the sheets: Alexei and Hardy). Dropped Hardy,
then added Andrus. Alexei Ramirez + JJ Hardy = 10 hits in 2009.
That’s the smell of hot puke!
Which one: Alexei, Peralta, Scutaro
Which one: Wandy, Davies
Which one: Crawford, Pence, Dukes
@knighttown: Stewart
@B-town: I don’t understand your question.
@rich c: Ha!
Oops, sorry about that, Grey, it was pretty unclear. I can keep one from each group, and would appreciate your wisdom.
Alexei OR Peralta OR Scutaro
Wandy OR Davies
(Actually, any TWO from this group): Crawford, Pence, Dukes
Thanks!
Actually, make that
Baker OR Wandy OR Davies
@B-town: Alexei, Wandy, Crawford, Pence
@Grey: How long would you wait on Ianetta to get it going? I like him and his 20+ HR upside a lot, but I got burned last year waiting on Towles for the 1st month…
@Vince: Eh, you wait a month. Then you grab the current hot hand. I waited for Salty last year (as well!) and then went with Navarro, et al. You’ll be okay. Iannetta’s got talent, he deserves another week at least.
It started pretty weel for him with a HR in his 1st game… Here’s hoping that HR #2 is coming soon
It started pretty well for him with a HR in his 1st game… Here’s hoping that HR #2 is coming soon
Grey, any idea why Peralta is a free agent in my 10-team league? Seems most experts, including yourself (SS #6) rate him as one of the top 10 SS’s.
I’m already trying for Alexei; think I should go for Peralta as well, to plug those two in for Scutaro/Kendrick?
Thanks! Btw — “Silent H” .. lol
My team is off to the best start pitching I have ever had. Im right on pace with the max innings allowed. The lone blemish has been BlowJob Ryan, god I hate that guy.
112 IP 11-wins 15-saves 117-K 2.56ERA 1.03WHIP
Do you think the Angels will keep running as much as they have been? Im thinking of trying to deal Bell and Abreu for an elite OF if someone in my league is willing to bite.
Anyone thoughts on Rodney holding the closer job for the rest of the season? He has looked good so far…
crawford steals 2 bases in a 8-2 loss last night that dont count,called definsive indifference,went to thunder over louisville last night,today thunder over my head.
Give Krispie Young for Bruce?
May be something of a lateral move, but I’d like to pop my trade cherry. Change for change’s sake and all that.
Could also try to lowball with some grouping of Fowler/Crisp/Burrell.
I know what you’re thinking and you’re right: I have a penchant for collecting slightly above-average outfielders.
Thanks.
@B-town: He’s not owned because people don’t trust him because he had a terrible year in ’06. Even though he’s only 26 years old now, some people can’t move past that. Yeah, he should be owned as well.
@Emporers Monkey: Angels always run. That’s the style of baseball they play.
@Billy: Stranger things have happened.
@Ceasar: Young and Bruce is kinda tomato-tomahto. If you can get something for that collective, go for it.
How long do you think Holland’s in the pen before he starts? I picked him up in a deep 14-team mixed league with holds as a stat. I figured he could maybe notch a couple holds then has a shot at being a decent starter (albeit Arlington’s looking like a pitching death trap). Also, should I drop Wang for the Assdribble?
@cubbies299: I doubt he’ll stay in the bullpen for long. I think you should drop Wang, but for Asdrubal? Eh, so he can sit on your bench? Do you have a place for him? Who’s taking over for Wang?
@Grey: I need to set my lineup for this week and here are my options…
on offense do you put in T Hunter or Ibanez in over BJ Upton Abreu or Pence? I had 10SB’s this week as well as 11HR 31R 33RBI’s to win all offensive categories except Avg…
for pitching I have Peavy, Beckett, Bills & Jenks…the other 3 spots can be filled with Franklin, Hanrahan, Bedard, Wainwright, Downs, or Slowey. (I currently have the first 3 starting of that group)
@Grey: fair nuff, I like his dual SS/2B eligibility, but yeah, probably not enough to start him unless injuries hit. I picked up Wang off waivers, so it’s not like he was a valued member of my team. My staff’s Hamels/Kaz/Vazquez/Lowe/Weaver, with Price in my minors and Kelvim DL stach’d. Could pick up Shawn Hill or Jorge De La Rosa, but I feel like they can be had as spot starters. Maybe I’ll grab a setup man for ratios (which are pretty ghastly thanks to Hamels/general reliever implosions). How does Joe Nelson, Grabow, Jensen Lewis, Jesse Crain, or Andrew Bailey sound? It’s a holds league, so these guys could help. Do you go SP or RP and if ur going RP, would u mind ranking a few of those guys? Thanks a lot!
@Nick: I’d go with Franklin, Bedard, and Wainwright.
Kubel, JD drew, Choo: rank in order i have to drop one of them. Or should i just drop zimmerman (the pitcher)
Kubel, JD drew, Choo: rank in order i have to drop one of them. Or should i just drop zimmerman
@p0rk burn: Wainwright is playing the Mets & Cubs, plus I would then only have 2 closers…don’t think thats my best option but I don’t like Hanrahan right now either, Nats suck & so does he
I just set up a Google alert for “Tommy Hanson” Come on Braves bring him up!
I just got offered Chipper Jones for Chris Davis, is this a no brainer?
@Nick: On offense, go with BJ Upton, Abreu and Pence.
Pitching, go with Franklin, Bedard and Wainwright.
@cubbies299: Lewis, Grabow, Jensen Lewis then Jesse Crain.
@Martin: Kubel, Drew, Choo.
@Den: I’d go with Davis.
@Grey: Just 2 relievers in my line-up for the week? & no Ibanez? I would think him over Pence but guess not
I know I’m struggling with this one. He’s not in the lineup again today. The Blalock at 1b experiment needs to stop, damn Andruw Jones. If us Davis owners are only getting 450 ab, I’d go with 450 ab of Jones.
To up Alexei I need to drop one OF — which one?
Hamilton, Crawford, Bruce, Pence, Hart, Dukes
450 ab Chipper vs. 450 ab Davis
@Prince: I feel like I answered this question already. Was this in the forums? You shouldn’t drop any of them. If you have to, Dukes.
@Nick: Go Ibanez then. They’re both good. Pence offers a bit more of a well-rounded player.
The Sunday trade offers are just coming through. I have tex and as a betrayed Angels fan, I cannot have him on my team. I want him to fail miserably. Tex for Arod?
I looking at a couple spot starts in Hd to Hd this week, any thoughts on :
Pettitte vs OAK – Mawnday
Kawakami vs WAS – Muesday.
Do both, only one, or neither.
Never mind Pettitte, he’s already owned. Think I will give Kawakami a whirl against Martis and the NATs.
@Den: Tex
@BKK: I was going to say do both, but Kawakami is fine.
Jayson Werth, Dexter Fowler, or Fred Lewis?
@Basketnarb: Werth, Lewis then Fowler.
@Grey, hmm, you may have, and if so, my apologies. I still haven’t pulled the trigger, so I may have forgotten I had already asked (though it wasn’t in the forums). Thanks for answering the question anyway, I appreciate it.
Bergesen is getting the call up and starting on TUE against the white sox. He is the orioles number one pitching prospect. Where do you like him compared to the likes of zimmerman, Romero, Porcello, and Hansen
@Grey: Thanks, I’ll wait unitl later in the week to pick up Wandy, but what do you think about Wandy @HOU vs LAD (Wolf) on Thursday. Too risky? Hd to Hd.
@Prince: No problem, you asked it here:
(http://razzball.com/dice-not-ok/)
@Martin: Not sure if I’d say he’s their number one. I’d want Romero, Zimmermann, Porcello then Hanson.
@BKK: I like Wandy.
@Grey: You like Romero in a 10 team keeper league?
Worth a spot this year and $5 next year?
@Grey: you said Lewis twice. Was that a type O perchance? By the way, is it sacrilege that I am sweating Carlos Quentin so much as a cubs fan? Damn fantasy baseball.
Also, Grey. Apparently Kuo, Balfour, and Perez just got dropped in my league… I’m waivering Kuo cuz he’s SP eligible. But where do they fall in with the rankings of the previous guys.
@Martin: I’m not sure Bergeson is even a prospect. And he’s certainly not Chris Tillman or Brian Matusz.
That Carlos Quentin guy is gonna win MVP isn’t he? And I traded him off of both of my teams. For Markakis straight up in one league and for C. Davis and Markakis in the other league along with Beltre. I’m stupid.
Is Nolasco for Lindstrom a weak trade? I only have Percival and Gregg in the pen.
Anyone know when Zimm is getting the callup from the Nats?
@cubbies299:
http://razzball.com/top-20-middle-relievers-for-2009-fantasy-baseball/
@PhillyYorker: Do not make that trade.
@philly yorker- zimmerman is pitching tomorrow. I’d add him but perhaps not start him.
Thank you Matt Kemp
Alright, so Ubaldo is letting me down. Cut bait and pick up Ricky Romero?
Ditto on Midget’s question. Jiminy Jiminez!!
Or Perkins, who continues to kick butt, or go to 4 relievers with Corpas?
@Prince: Corpas is a closer now, he’s definitely more value. I’d add him quick.
Thanks Hardcore. So dropping one starter, would you choose Jurrjens or Jiminez?
@BigFatHippo: Think 10 team league’s a bit too shallow for Romero, but one more start and he’ll be worth it in a 10 team league, so as long as you’re not dropping anyone too worthwhile, go for it.
@cubbies299: Guess the fact I said Lewis twice says more about the other guys.
@cubbies299: I like Balfour then Kuo better.
@PhillyYorker: I want Nolasco there and I’m not even a big Nolasco fan.
@Hardcore Midget: Sure, go for it.
@Prince: I’d want Jurrjens.
Wandy has me over a barrel in a league, and not the bachelor night kind of way. He’s sitting as a free agent but I can’t justify cutting anybody to pick him. The pitching staff is stacked (Bills, Bedard, JJ, C.Young, CC, and Parra as the ugly stepsister) and my bench bats are Headley, J. Lopez, Hawpe, and CoJack. I don’t need Wandy but I feel like I shouldnt let him get picked up by anybody else. Dammit.
@p0rk burn: Drop Parra for him, because no one’s picking them up unless they read Razzball.
EDIT: It’s too hot to think.
@Grey: Wow – just Googled your weather. That is hot. Wet and windy here if it makes you feel any better.
@Grey: Thanks Grey, think I’ll pass. He’s due for a correction anyway. Probably get it at Pale Hoses.
drop John Baker for Saltalamacchia? I’d have to use my #2 waiver, but I’d like to start Salty instead of continuing to give 3 day trials to crappy backstops. worth it??
should i be worried about this pitching staff:
sp’s: beckett, haren, billingsley, weaver, garza, ervin santana (dl)
rp’s: qualls, gonzo, franklin, kuo, arrendando
categories in roto league: w, l, s, hld, k, gidp, era, whip
one will have to go when ervin is ready.
available sp’s: sanchez, parra, edwin jackson, snell, reyes, wolf
just wondering if am missing out on a fa or anything…a thinker and long i know. thanks in advance.
Am I right in thinking that the only two hits Iannetta has had this year are home runs?
@Steve: you wold be right. all ianetta does is hit homeruns!
@Steve: Yeah, it’s hot as dog balls here.
@GhostfacePrzybillah: Nice username. I don’t think you need to use your waiver for Salty if you have Baker. Hold tight.
@paulzone: If you don’t need to start RPs (Kuo and Arredondo) then you can pick up Wolf and Parra right now. Overall, that staff should be okay, and you’ll be able to lose Garza or Weaver when it’s time (unless you can lose a RP).
@Grey: Not sure of the actual temperature of dogs’ balls.
Have to take your word on that one.
@BigFatHippo: Watch him correct in the RCL as he blows my already inflated ERA and WHIP.
Ya can’t be to picky when you’re at the bottom looking up.
Did they reschedule the Cards/Cubs for tomorrow? Can’t find any info.
Man, that ruined my Sunday night.
@BSA: Did you see the trade me and Steve worked out?
@BigFatHippo: No both teams wanted the off day and the weather doesn’t look much better on Monday.
@BigFatHippo: Yeah, I like it. You’re stacking up nicely with RP and Dunn I like better than Damon. Though after the first series at Yankee stadium it looks like that became a hitters park. Talk about a jet stream.
Hank makes me scratch my head as a trade partner.
we count hlds & saves. so, i can slot kuo in an sp spot everyday. arrendando was xtra hlds for me. i recently picked up franklin. would prefer to just have 2 of each meaning closers/setup dudes. we have 3 rp spots, 4 sp spots.
would you swap garza and/or weaver out for either parra and/or wolf?
Lovin’ me some Kemp right now…
Got him on both my keeper leagues
@Grey: @Steve: Yeah but its a dry heat.
@BSA: Should help both teams, I needed power and saves, Steve needed speed and K’s. Just hope Dunn doesn’t kill my avg.
I don’t propose trades that don’t help both teams, doesn’t make any sense to me.
would you trade Ibanez/Hamels for Fielder? I have no 1B and my pitching staff is Hamels/Kazmir/Vazquez/Lowe/Weaver with Price/Franklin Morales in my minors and Kelvim Escobar DL stashed
@cubbies299: How do you have no 1B? Did you draft that way?
Who’s your replacement in OF?
@BigFatHippo:
I do have a 1B, just not a good one. Here, I’ll show you my team
C: Ianetta
1B: Laroche
2B: Bri Roberts
SS: Tulowitzki
3B: Wright
OF: Kemp
OF: Quentin
OF: Chrisby
Util: Hawpe
Util: Ibanez
BN: FLewis, Agordon, Kubel, AHill, CDuncan
SP: Hamels/Kaz/Vazq/Lowe/Weaver/Wang (who’s not long for this team)
CL: Mariano/Corpas
RP: Belisario/Holland (it’s a holds league)
DL: Kelvim/Zumaya
Help. I need to give an answer. I’m leaning towards yes…
@cubbies299: Ahh, good ol LaRoche!
You can probably afford to lose Hamels then with Escobar coming back, plug Lewis in at Util and play Duncan vs. righties. Just don’t do it till Grey gives the OK.
Fielder’s gotta hit sometime doesn’t he?
@paulzone: I’d hold, but watch Garza closely.
@cubbies299: You’re giving up too much for Fielder for your team.
I had put in a Waiver claim for Wandy, dropping Randy. I want to hold onto Randy after today’s performance, should I drop Hawkins for him? I am not hurting at all for saves. Thanks!
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Drop Hawkins.
@Grey: I think I got him to agree to throw in Burrell for what is probably table scraps… Does that tip the scales to my favor? If only his pitching wasn’t terrible. Then agian, he wouldn’t be pursuing hamels if that weren’t the case
Should we be rostering Street? What chance do he have of retaining his job?
@cubbies299: Nope
@I’m Keith Hernandez: He’s not the closer right now, but I wouldn’t drop him just yet.
Someone dropped him, I was debating picking him up. My drop candidates are Randy or Lilly
@I’m Keith Hernandez: Hold tight.
@Grey: Drop Wheeler for Street?
Last one before bed
Offered Holliday/Werth/Zimmermna (on my bench) for
Granderson/ Carlos Lee
He’s considering it, good buy low trade on Lee/Grandy?
He’d be backing Corpas, Wheeler is backing Percival.
Dammit, I shoulda bought a $12 salad!
What about trading Ibanez/Hamels/Kubel/Ahill for Beltran/Verlander in the same league. I mean i’m not a huge verlander fan, but at least he’s a 5th starter that will whiff guys. I can probably move him if he has a good stretch too. I think this is better for me. I also have way too much hitting depth.
@BigFatHippo: Not at this point.
@I’m Keith Hernandez: I’d want Grandy/Lee.
How stable is Hanrahan’s Job? He just got released to Waivers in my league and I only need to drop Anthony Reyes to get him…
@Grey: Davies or Jackson?
I picked up MY BOY Edwin Jackson after someone jettisoned him — started him against Seattle and was super-proud of the results. Had a big pitching night, with C-Bills, Action Jackson and Slowey getting wins, and Gallardo pitching 6 blanks. I was psyched, until I saw my hitting was 4/29 (.138). Then this proud squad went 5/33 (.152) today.
My hitting doesn’t suck (I don’t think) — in fact, I tried to draft offense this year. But I’ve already got Alexei glued to the bench (in favor of Felipe), and today Philips/Fielder/Wright/Votto went 0-15. Glurgh.
Also: Hey Grey — do you believe in Glen Perkins and/or Ricky Romero? Feel free to answer in tomorrow’s (hotly anticipated) round-up.
Added note no one cares about: DeRosa’s big day in NY the other day KILLED me in Razzball. -37 points! Just murdered me.
@cubbies299: That’s a lot for Beltran, but it is better.
Two possible trades
Cano for Lindstrom
Granderson for Jenks (I know it seems bad but I am under the bizarre belief that Ross will only be a slight dropoff from Grandy–all stats considered — and I really need reliable closers.)
Am I the easy mark in my league or are these trades justifiable on some level?
@The Dude: Jump Reyes for him.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Jackson
Perkins vs. Romero will be in tomorrow’s roundup.
I’m kicking ass in my Razzball league. Yee-haw.
@PhillyYorker: I want Cano. I want Grandy.
@The Dude: Hanrahahahhan pretty much just Eff’d my week, but he pitches for the Nats, i’d say he’s alright unless the sucking continues?
lovin KEMP…
@Grey: I got him to take kubel out of it so it’s just Hamels/hill/ibanez for Beltran/Verlander. It’s gotta be done. I am worried about Hamels (not that he won’t be elite, but with 250 ip last year, a few DL stints at the least would be possible). It’ll also cement my chokehold on offensive stats and i can make moves for pitching later.
@Grey: Your Kris Benson recommendation is working wonders for my Razztosity. Also, Brian Giles is RazzGold. How does this guy cash a paycheck?
Is Brandon Inge’s hot streak and 40 Yahoo rank just a phase or he is worth a pickup as catcher, 3b, of elgibility. In my case probably catcher over Napoli…? I would have to drop Napoli, Downs or Slowey. Responses before midnight eastern time would make this switch possible, thanks Grey & the gang
and I got the other guy to agree to some form of beltran for fielder, so I’d be able to get myself an elite 1B to replace LaRoche. Then I can deal… well it gets a lil murky, but I think this’ll be fine
@Tony Y: Yeah but SAGNOF right?
Well, I suppose you’d actually have to produce a save before that acronym becomes true.
Thanks Grey. I’m dominating in hitting stats but putrid in saves, whip and era. That was the only reason I was considering those trades.
@cubbies299: Go for it.
@Baron Von Vulturewins: Ha! I know. Giles is supremely one note and that note is tinny.
@Nick: Go with Inge over Napoli.
@Grey I’m in need of 3b with Mora out and Bonaficio sinking. Whatta you think between Barden and Stewart? This is only temporary as A-Rod is quietly sitting on my DL.
@Grey: Grey, I am scouring for a closer in the RCL and am taking a flyer on Mock. Any opinions on him?
@timSTi: Stewart
@BSA: Mock’s pretty useless. Maybe Rivera? There’s really no one to cover for him that’s worthwhile as a spec buy.
@Grey:Thanks. He’ll fit right in for a few days. My whole team is useless. We’ll see what happens with the next series. Famous last words – “He can’t do any worse than Wheeler today.” HA
Sooo glad I picked up Perkins for todays gem. Was having a tough pitching week – he fully dug me out of three tight categories.
This reader is itching for the breakdown on this baffling pitcher. Missed on Romero, wasn’t gonna drop someone.
