Our correspondent in St. Louis, Dan Pants, is reporting at 8:05 Eastern Standard Time, Ian Kennedy‘s fastball died.  There’s still no official confirmation.  Details are scant.  Daniel Descalso is in questioning about the murder.  Let’s go back now, and take a moment and recount the life of Ian Kennedy’s fastball.  It originally came up in the Yankee organization, where it showed promise, but one two many times it was left out over the plate and hitters clobbered it.  They didn’t quite murder it like last night.  No, that was saved for a balmy night in St. Louis.  Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kennedy family.  Wait, now I understand they are transporting Daniel Descalso to another police station for questioning.  Let’s go there now.  Descalso, “I don’t know anything about the situation here.  I am just a patsy.  Ian Kennedy’s fastball’s died weeks ago in Cuba chasing Fidel Castro.  I’d like legal representation.”  Wait, is that Kubel… Descalso is down!  Kubey’s in cuffs.  Mayhem ensues.  Hopefully, Ian Kennedy can find some peace on the Disgraceful List, where he’s surely headed.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Bryce Harper – Going to see Dr. Freeze.  The news reports that it’s possible he could need surgery.  Has anyone ever not needed surgery after going to see Dr. James Andrews?  “I took a bath with Madoff, have hookers and blow to pay for, and not to mention this pastrami.”  That was Dr. James Andrews oversharing with his waitress at Carnegie Deli.  I wish I had known about Dr. James Andrews when I was in elementary school.  “You didn’t study for your times tables?  How about I prescribe torn labrum surgery?”  “Sure, I can get you out of gym class, how’s reconstructive hip surgery sound?”  “You know who never had the sniffles?  Tommy John.”  Obviously, there’s nothing you can do but wait on Harper now and hope for the best, but this could turn into a month-long absence.  Pray that Dr. James Andrews is up-to-date with his Porsche payments.

Danny Espinosa – Had a cortisone shot in his broken wrist yesterday.  He can’t pick up a bat, but he could hit 60 homers if MLB adopts punchball rules.

Shelby Miller – 6 IP, 2 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks.  Obviously I take this start every day of the week and twice on Muesday, but he’s struggling to get deep into games and will be shut down in another two months.  I’d still sell high if it’s an option.  Member, Ian Kennedy’s fastball died so we could have choices.

Matt Adams – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 4th homer.   He really kissed that one goodbye.  Which is to say his mouth was full of Hersey’s Kisses when he was at the plate.

Matt Carpenter – 2-for-5, 2 runs and his 5th homer.  Right now, batting lead-off for the Cards is about as cushy as it is for the Tigers, only it doesn’t look it when you glance at the lineup.  Every pitcher and position player that goes through the Cardinals system seems to outperform, or at least live up to their potential.  Is there a better run organization?  I’m seriously asking.

Matt Holliday – 2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 9th homer.  Get hot, you fargin’ icehole!

Gerardo Parra – 3-for-4, 2 runs, 1 RBI.  He looked hot about three days ago, then he went 1-for-12 in the next two games.  Hey, Gerardo, roll your wrists like you roll your R’s!

J.J. Hardy – 4-for-4, 1 RBI.  Probably the most unlikely line you’ll ever see from J.J. Hardy.  I can understand 4-for-4 with two homers before this line.  J.J., I Hardy know you.

Miguel Gonzalez – 6 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 7 Ks vs. the Astros.  Ugh, the constant battle with myself with whether or not to throw marginal guys vs. the Astros.  It’s like the Fight Club parking lot scene but I look like Brad Pitt from all angles.  And no acne.

Bud Norris – 7 IP, 3 ER, 10 baserunners, 7 Ks, 3.43 ERA.  The ace of the Astros has looked a lot better than the ace of a lot of other teams, but he’s been getting lucky with fly balls not leaving the park and unlucky with him being stuck in a park with the Astros.

Mark Appel – Went first in the draft to the Astros and is out of Standford.  To put another way, he’s going from Stanford to Stands-for-losing.  Here’s our prospect guy, Scott’s Mark Appel fantasy.

Wily Peralta – 5 IP, 5 ER.  The comparison between him and Yovani is pretty apt.

Mitch Moreland – To the DL with a hamstring strain.  Yesterday, Mike Olt changed his Facebook picture to him in a Rangers uniform.  Then the Rangers unfriended him and called up Chris McGuiness, who’s so Irish he didn’t stop at Guiness and added on the Mc.  He will likely play 1st base vs. righties and carries a mollywhopping bat.  He could hit bombs to any part of the field, but will struggle to hit for average.  One thing the Rangers have no problem developing is all-or-nothing 1st basemen while always sticking with guys that hit like middle infielders.   You’d think some of their scouts would take a hint.  Less Chris Davis, more Micheal Young.

Derek Holland – 6 IP, 2 ER, 12 baserunners, 4 Ks and the no decision.  That, right there, might be the best possible line for a guy you surely had on your bench since he was in Fenway.

Adrian Beltre – 3-for-4 and his 13th homer.  I should’ve stopped at trading Choo for Beltre and never did the Machado for Price deal.  This is truth, but the Choo/Beltre trade is working okay for me.  On my team Beltre has 108 ABs, his line is 19/7/20/.380.

Jeff Baker – 1-for-4, 2 RBI and his 2nd homer in three games.  He’s not in this afternoon’s Buy column, because, let’s face it, no one is picking him up outside of daily AL-Only leagues, but in those leagues he’s worth grabbing.

Jacoby Ellsbury – 4-for-5, 2 runs.  Big night for a guy coming back from a sore groin.    Good to see his Ellsberries are feeling better.

Jonny Gomes – 4-for-5, 1 run.  Didja you know around baseball clubhouses instead of saying tomato-tomahto they say Jonny-Jhonny.  It’s pretty confusing.

Wilin Rosario – 2-for-5, 3 RBIs and his 10th homer.  He must’ve heard the rumblings in the comments about him not performing.  Could someone badmouth David Price?  I need him back.

Lucas Duda – Sat out with quad tightness.  Duda’s Duda Duda day-to-day.

Tyler Cloyd – 6 2/3 IP, 0 ER, 9 baserunners, 2 Ks vs. the Brewers.  Why is Milwaukee suddenly the Marlins?  Was Ryan Braun supplying the whole team?  Is Scooter Gennett the evil incarnate and bringing bad juju to the whole team?  Is Scooter Braun related to either of them?  I got questions, y’all!

Domonic Brown – 2-for-3, 1 run and 2 steals.  You know why he’s doing this, right?  You know why, right?  He’s doing this because Giancarlo’s hurt.  It’s like when your buddy breaks up with his girl and you run into her at the mall and are like, “I always thought you should’ve been treated much better.”  Domonic’s a dog!

Dan Straily – 7 IP, 4 ER, 8 baserunners, 3 Ks.  If you can’t strikeout more than 3 White Sox– Shoot, if you can’t strikeout Dunn at least three times, I don’t have room for you, especially when you’re facing the Yankees next.  Well, we had a good two game run, Straily, may the waiver door hit you where the good Lord split you.

Yoenis Cespedes – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs, 2 HRs, 100 Feet.  With him and Puig being so exciting, MLB should do a tournament of all the best players in the world coming together to play.  Call it the World Baseball Something.  Haven’t figured out the last word yet.

Yonder Alonso – To the 15-day DL with a sore wrist.  But who are the Padres going to find to go 1-for-4 with no power for the next two weeks?  You can’t replace that kind of production!

Cameron Maybin – 2-for-5, 1 run, 2 RBIs and 2 steals as he returns from the DL.  He’ll be in this afternoon’s Buy/Sell.  Keep refreshing the page and it will magically appear.

Dexter Fowler – Sat out with a migraine and flu.  WebMd says he might have a tumor, but WebMD says that for everything.

Carl Crawford – His hamstring strain is fairly significant.  That’s also how I used to introduce myself in bars when I was single, “Hey, how are you?  I’m fairly significant.”

Ted Lilly – Dodgers said he might miss his next start due to an injured neck.  Yeah, no kidding.  If he had a boat, she’d be named, Won’t Hold Water Lilly.

Yasiel Puig – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and his 3rd homer.  ManBearPuig!

Zack Greinke – 7 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 7 Ks.  Finally!  He might’ve been struggling with still being injured and the Dodgers rushed him back.  Now, he’ll be good until October.  Please.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – Cleared to start Friday after missing his last start vs. the Rockies.  Mmhmm, I bet.  And the doctors say I can eat the pizza once you take off the anchovies.

Jason Heyward – 2-for-4.  He’s had two hits every day since Sunday, which is two days after I told you to buy him.  Yup.

Phil Hughes – 7 IP, 1 ER, 5 baserunners, 7 Ks in Safeco.  Damn, I came so close to picking him up for this start.  His 2/3 IP, 7 ER previous start vs. the Mariners kept gnawing at my craw.  My craw, I tell ya!

Ryan Doumit – 1-for-3, 2 RBIs and his 4th homer this week.  Mauer only has 5 homers on the year.  Ryan Doumit doesn’t even like baseball, he does this to pull the puppet strings on your catcher questions in the comments.  You are Doumit’s puppet.  He calls you Darla.  You’re purple with green hair.  You’re wearing overalls and a train conductor hat.  He dresses you weird!

Lorenzo Cain – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 2nd homer.  Cain…Sugar! took about a month off, but sorta like Jed Lowrie, I’d prefer if he just got injured when he wasn’t going to hit.  As the ladies like to say, I’m easy to please.

Victor Martinez – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs and his 4th homer, hitting .231.  Big V looks like a shell of his former self, like when you peel one of those cucumber face peels off in one full piece.  (What, I can’t forget my 4 lady readers.)  But Martinez has been getting unlucky and should still end the year with 15 homers and a .280 average.  Okay, so that’s what John Buck did in April.

Andy Dirks – 0-for-5 batting lead-off for the Tigers.  Geez, you’re getting meatballs there because of the meatballs behind you.  Bring up Nick Castellanos!  I need a new Greek player to be annoyed at.

Max Scherzer – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 9 Ks.  I’ve thought about what Max and our kids would look like.  Would they have two different color eyes?  Maybe they’d just have hazel eyes.  Would they look like little Golems and I’d have to bandage their entire bodies before school every day?  They’d have to have natural athletic ability because of Max and I ran track (that’s what I called running from bullies).  I wonder what we’d call him if he was a girl.  Sheila?  Anibal?

    • Matthew says:
      (link)

@Iceman: Crawford, in my opinion, won’t be back for a long time, and a team won’t send a player back down if he’s playing out of his mind, ala Trout, Harper, Miller, Corbin, Gregorious, Profar to be. CC is an absolute talent, but injuries plagues him as much as Andrew Bogut, at least Bogut admits it.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@JB Gilpin: I’ve now been offered Matt Cain. I’d have to send Puig and an average starter back, I have many average starters to work with (Tillman, Cashner, Strailey, Kendrick). Sound better and how would you rank those guys?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@Scott: For sure since you’re rebuilding, sounds like a real MLB rebuilding type trade

      • Scott says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: JB, thanks. I just don’t want to carry dead weight this year. When Kinsler’s healthy, does Profar go back down, become a util? And when does Tavares hit the bigs? I’d like to make a move knowing I may get something out of it this year…

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Scott: I don’t think Profar goes down, I think like you said super utility, Kinsler won’t be playing every day, give Beltre (not sure if they’ll put him at third but may once or twice) then Andrus a day off once or twice… Something like that. I think barring injury, Taveras isn’t up until August-ish. Had that ankle injury delay him a tad.

@Sherm: I don’t know about disaster, and Morse is hitting like .200 over his last 40ish games or something like that. You get speed and upside, I think he could belt 10 homers and nab 30-35 the rest of the way, barring health

      (link)

@knighttown: Watch this situation like a cyclops with a monocle. Rain is dumping on NY all day/night and in to Saturday morning. I have Harvey and Jo-Fer on a lot of my teams and, originally, was planning to have them go today and then stream Niese on Saturday. Then Marcum got pushed to Saturday and Niese to Sunday. Tonight’s game is almost a surefire rainout, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Saturday’s game (or games, if they try to squeeze in a doubleheader) gets PPD as well. I’d imagine Harvey and Jo-Fer will draw the start for their respective teams when the Mets and Marlins play next, which could be Saturday OR Sunday. At least, I hope they do… I need pitching stats this week!

My ERA is killing me I’m dead last in a 11 team league. I’ve got Moore, Greinke, Ryu, Peavy (DL), Corbin, Bailey, & Kennedy. After this last start I’m thinking of dropping Kennedy. There are few options out there like Teheran, Milone, Wacha, Hughes, Parker, Skagg. but I’m not sure if I’d improve much or not in the long run. If I dropped Kennedy who do you feel gives me a better chance to lower my ERA and in turn help with K’s as well?

    Thanks,

    Jason

Thanks for the quick reply. I dropped Kennedy for Teheran. Now I’m mixed on whether or not to pick up Maybin or picking back up Bonifacio. I could use some steals. I just picked up Marte & Martin off waivers. But who do I drop?

        C – Carlos Santana
        1B – Prince Fielder
        1B – Paul Goldschmidt
        1B/2B – Daniel Murphy
        2B/3B – Kyle Seager
        2B – Ian Kinsler (DL)
        SS – Ian Desmond
        SS – Jean Segura
        3B – Manny Machado
        OF – Justin Upton
        OF – Alex Gordon
        OF – Nick Markakis
        OF – Leonys Martín
        OF – Starling Marte

I didn’t end up doing the trade.. But anyway would you drop Crawford? I already have Ozuna who I picked up and I would drop him for Profar or someone like that so I atleast have a bench spot. If I keep him then I won’t have any room to streampitchers all week and that’s what’s been keeping me over the edge of winning the past 5 weeks in a row??

This Puig looks like the impact hitter callup of the year. I missed him by a mere hours on waivers. Got home at 7 and saw callup news, but he was taken by another team at 4. Was in the midst of a 6 hour drive in my papamobile… hard to balance a smurf life and be a baller. Offense really could use this bat.

He has done more in less than one week by himself than my entire offense. Even yesterday he outproduced my lousy offense again. I had 6 hitters go 1 for 19 with 1 R and 3 RBI.

I even had 3 hits and 2 RBI on bench from Headley and Wells. The Headley one hurt cuz I was stuck with him on bench after Rendon got rained out… just another day in the office.

@AB: I don’t think I would against Philly, especially since they’ll try to limit him to only about 90ish pitches and I don’t think that’d be deep enough plus he’s homer prone in a good park. Not sure if he makes it to the Marlins start, Chris Narveson still looms, but I would start him there if he indeed makes it that far.

    • JB Gilpin

  40. Bernie Brewer says:
    (link)

Need help on a trade offer please! Here’s my squad:
HITTERS: Wieters, Swisher, Cano, Rollins, Longoria, A. Jones, Heyward, Marte, Puig, McLouth, Zobrist, Hart
PITCHERS: Hamels, Bumgarner, HBailey, Wacha, Liriano, Wheeler, Cingrani, Grilli, League, (DL – Beachy)

15 team 5×5, I’m currently in 6th. Top 4 in all hitting categories except AVG (14th – yikes!), but in bottom half of all pitching categories except SV.

I posted a message that said I’d be willing to give up Cano if I could get a 1B AND SP upgrade (figuring I had Zobrist to cover for him). Here’s the offer that came my way:

    GIVE Cano, Swisher, Zobrist,
    GET CLee, Butler, Scutaro

I’m very tempted to get Lee and Butler to immediately upgrade those 2 spots, but also giving up Zobrist puts 2B at a weakness (Scutaro would be my starter). Although, as I type this, both Rendon and Franklin are available, so maybe I just go young…

Just looking for a 2nd (or 3rd) opinion on this. Should I decline? Counter-offer? Take it and drop a young SP (Wheeler, Wacha, or Cingrani) for a young 2B (Franklin or Rendon).

    Thanks!!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Bernie Brewer: Cano and Zobrist is too much MI to give up IMO. Swap out Zobrist with someone and counter they give you another mediocre starter to help your staff and I think it would look better

      • Bernie Brewer says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks JB! Looking at his team, it seems that Zobrist would play in his OF anyway, so what if I countered with Marte, McLouth, or Puig in there instead? I could still have Zobrist at my 2B in that case…

On another note, JB, you’re a Brewers fan too, right? How frustrating has this season been?!?! I at least thought they’d be competitive…

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Bernie Brewer: Ugh, yea die-hard Crew-er. Been awful, pretty much everything that has gone wrong has, but you have to love Segura/Gomez’s play and upside and most of our pieces are there for a while. I hope whatever comes of the steroids hunt just happens sooner than later. Yeah Cano, Swisher, McLouth I think is a good trio to trade, McLouth’s value is about as high as it could be right now.

          • Bernie Brewer says:
            (link)

@JB Gilpin: Thanks again for the trade advice. I’ll see what comes of it!

As for the Crew, I don’t know if you’re in the Milwaukee area like I am, but all the talk here is to basically just have him suspended now (if he’s going to be), since this season feels lost anyway! They just put way too much stock in the young SP they have and none have stepped up (Doug Melvin must’ve watched “Moneyball” one too many times!). I’d like to hope the future is bright, but they need to start developing some young arms!

            • JB Gilpin

              JB Gilpin says:
              (link)

@Bernie Brewer: I’m not, I’m way off in NC. I agree, if he is to be suspended, just do it now, let Gomez hit third, and we’ll still finish mid-division haha. Yea if just maybe 2 of our young arms pan out, I think we’ll have a better team next year. Also need Hart to be sure his knee is fine right when postseaosn starts not when Spring starts!

    Grey,

Huge blockbuster here. 14 Team H2H 5×5 (with k/9 instead of k), we keep 6 every year. Kept Votto, Kemp, McCutch, Choo, Reyes, Latos this year. Team is in the absolute dumps and I aint getting out of it this season. Need a huge trade to shake up. What do you think of this offer I just got. Keep in mind 1st round draft pick is really a 7th in redraft.

    I get:
    Kershaw
    J Bautista
    1st Rounder
    1st Rounder
    2nd Rounder
    3rd Rounder
    4th Rounder
5th Rounder (all these picks are for 2014 draft)

Posey/Valverde for Heyward/ Aoki, Profar or Joyce

Or some combination of these players. It is a 10 team 5 keeper league

My current SS and 3B are Castro and Machado. My current Catcher is Sal Perez. I am deep at OF. Currently I have Gordon, Heyward, Brown, Beltran, Aoki, Maybin, Joyce, Stanton, and Matt Carpenter if I need him there. I can only play 5 OF at a time

Well since bad mouthing players on this message board seems to invigorate them…what the hell is going on with J-Up? I watch most of his at-bats and for the last month, pitchers have been blowing fastballs (Ranging from 90-96mph) right by him. A lot of them are right down the middle of the plate. He looks way over matched. I don’t get it. His swing is so short and not a lot of movement to start his swing.

I also have too many OFs and dont know what to do about it… JUp, Bruce, Gomez, Cuddyer, Downtown Brown, Heyward, AJAX, and Cespedes… who are your bottom three

I was one of the “say it aint so-ers” on your sell miller… i know im late to board the train but i like this kid a lot and think hes got big potential however i am worried about the innings limit… what kind of starter could i expect in a straight swap

Dude, trade Zimm and an OF for someone. Think Heyward, Cuddyer are bottom two, don’t want to even pick a third. Cuddyer has been awesome too, he’s only there bc health. I think Miller could bring in a top-15 guy easily. But I’d consolidate your offense into another starter

would it foolish to give dom brown + bailey/wilhemson for ellsbury? 10TM H2H non keeper…could use the extra spot with price coming back eventually, could fill in with either wacha or wheeler in meantime….am sitting first currently and pretty heavy on power as is with napoli cathing, freeman at 1b, beltre at 3b, kendrick/hill at 2…cespedes, braun, heyward, rios OF and c davis locked into my UTIL….love the upside of jacoby with immediate upgrade in speed dept, but the wonky groin has me a little worried, coupled with the fact that brown looks like he finally figured his shit out and has realized he has good speed of his own. seeing him finish with 20-22 steals RoS wouldnt be unrealistic and if thats the case i think i hold… yay nay?

    • Terse

    Greybones,

    How’s your merkin??

Is it worth holding onto Wacha in my 10-Team league? Need ERA/WHIP/Wins help. Should I just use my Wacha spot to stream? Some SP’s that are available:

Niese (goin up against MIA Sunday, yum?)
Jarrod Parker (against CWS today….another good lookin one)

Wheeler and Gausman are available, but I put them in the same boat as Wacha Flocka.

I’m thinking stream Parker, stream Niese, and move on from there. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?

      • Project Merkin says:
        (link)

I’m with ya JB. I COULD also drop Beachy, slip Peavy into Beachy’s DL spot, and stream while holding onto Wacha? Or should I keep stashing Beachy and Peav?

        • JB Gilpin

          JB Gilpin says:
          (link)

@Project Merkin: In a 10-teamer, I wouldn’t hold both. Prob drop Peave, he’s further out and hope Beachy can get ready to go and deal like before injury

  63. fri-guy says:
    (link)

so, an owner that’s not doing very well in my league just dropped Niese. it looks like he’s only had 2 blowup starts and that his k/9 is down a LOT from 7 to 5 compared to last year and that he’s not winning at all and his k:bb rate is WAY off his career average (usually 3, now 1.25). what’s he like to own and is he worth grabbing (12 team mixed)?

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@fri-guy: He’s painful to own, I think he’s worth grabbing especially if you can get the upcoming Marlins start and go from there.

  64. Wacha is RP in ESPN (???), so must sit closer to play him. Wheeler & Cingrani coming up, Skaggs & Kluber available. Hold or fold Wacha for any of these? Would you offer Josh Hamilton for Heyward? For Stanton better trade? Thanks JB!

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@madden_curser: I think Stanton is the better upside, I’d probably offer that. I love, love love Kluber. Next start at Texas is horrible, but after that a lot of divisional matchups against bad offenses. Glad I could help out!

A guy in my league is shopping Goldschmidt. I have offered him Shelby Miller and J. Up. Is that a solid trade? If you say hold, I will hold, but if what you say about Miller comes true, I feel like this will be a coup. I got Miller for a dollar and he has been great, but I have other higher priced guys that are performing too. Thoughts?

excited to see news of giancarlo’s imminent return! With that in mind, I’ll have a DL spot to fill. Notable options…

Middlebrooks (DL not for long? may create roster issue), Hart, Victorino
    Beachy, Detwiler, Chen, Halladay, Morrow

Pitching is probably my biggest need so I’m leaning Beachy, though reports on him have not been great.. 12 team head to head categoryland with 23 man rosters.

Gimme your top 2 of the bunch listed above, if you would kind sir? Thanks!

    • JB Gilpin

This guy could do this for the rest of the year.. I’m just asking, what is it about him or what is wrong with him to why I shouldn’t offer the guy a first tier player for him?

    • JB Gilpin

On Sunday I will turn into Jeff Daniels in “Dumb and Dumber” and will be forced to take part in some serious dumping. Got two guys who need to come off DL: Stanton, and Josh Johnson, who I know you have no use for but who I think could be solid state the rest of season.

So which two of these do I drop:

    Morse
    Swisher
    Wacha
    Wheeler
    Gattis
    A.J. Griffin
    Jarrod Parker
    Nickmundo Franklin

        @Terse – thanks man

@JB Gilpin – Haha I knew that crack was coming. I have Franklin to back up at 2B/SS…but I’m starting to think backups are kind of pointless, especially when you go with a shallow bench. Thanks dude.

Mr. Gray: The “Hands Off Cuba” group is out front again!!!…

I’m trying to figure out if you are more of a Clay Shaw/Clay Bertrand or David Ferrie type – a composite character or both parts might work???… You are a natural for both.. Leaning towards Clay Shaw though…

To be sure, Rudi is a Guy Banister – type casting is always the way to go…

JayWrong is both Willie O’Keefe and Marina Oswald roled/rolled into one… An American starlet is born!!!

JD is Jack Martin (the PI and reticent – for his own safety – informant)

Jack Full Of Hate is Dean Andrews Jr (the jazz-beau barrister)

Oakland Steve is Russell B. Long, and Colonel X (we don’t have the budget for both)

Joe C is Mrs Garrison.. He will look good in pastel summer dresses, one of those flipped up bouffant 60’s dyed hair-dos and does have a natural southern belle accent.. He will be the understudy for David Ferrie (tyoe casting, again) – in case, we just use you only as CS/CB…

Of course, I’m Jim Garrison – “Let the truth see the light of day at RazzBall’ is one of my biggest lines…. And there are no bedroom or kissing scenes with Mrs G – a good thing….

    Looking for an Oswald… Suggestions???

Straily had one rough 2 out inning… He came in and fired up the team after that (the game within the game)… The A’s power is back!!!

    GO A’s

Big XOXO to you Mr. Gray.. I went with the hot Doumit yesterday based on on your hotsheet tip bringing him into focus for me… Certainly, I am a late arrival in the best of his run… But, better late than never when/where 1 day wonder taters are involved.. Thanks

    Guru Grey,

15-team keeper, OPS. I’m desperate for a 1B with solid power, RBI, and OPS. In pursuing AGon, other team wants two keeper SP. Two of Shelby/MadMax/JZim seems like overpaying. Is it?

    • Reginald Denny says:
      (link)

@Manimal: By AGon you mean Adrian Gonzalez, the dude who hits like 15-20 HR a year now? Yes, you’re way overpaying.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:
      (link)

@Manimal: Yikes… I think so. I actually traded JZim and Medlen for AGon in a keeper, so that question is near and dear to me. I would downgrade your second pitcher if you could, but since it fits your need I don’t think it’s overpaying by too much

Ks are a category, and it’s OBP/SLG rather than BA. Thanks.

    • JB Gilpin

13-team 5×5 with OBP and keepers… I’m in the second tier and surging into a competitor…

With no regard about what I need yet (it’s still the first week of June and I’ll worry about needs next month) so simply seeking to improve the balance of my team… which side do you prefer?

Side A: Albert Pujols and Bryce Harper (very good keeper value for 2014) and Manny Machado (excellent keeper value for 2014 and 2015). Theoretically, Harper + Machado can be dealt again during the forthcoming fire sale period for a good haul.

Side B: Goldschmidt and Carlos Gonzalez

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

@JK: I like what you get, consolidating into better players, given you have decent rotation depth

        @JB Gilpin: JB, Here’s my staff, not great: C.Lee, J.Lester, M.Harvey, H.Bailey, R.Dempster, T.Milone, M.Leake, M.Wacha… and currently have T.Skaggs… Z.Wheeler, and GCole in waiting.

I’m like the consolidation, but concerned that losing Harvey and Bailey really hurts my pitching staff.

        What do you think?

And apropos of nothing (except my huge need at MI): think Wee Willie Bloomquist will get regular starts for Arizona? I could possibly also grab Jose Iglesias or Brian Dozier? Infidel options are ew and far between.

    • G Penny says:
      (link)

@Kevin: Not an expert, but I’d do that deal in a bloody second (doubly so if its a keeper league and you have some other quality arms in your rotation.. and even if neither of those things are true, it’d still be hard to pass up). When Stanton is in the lineup, he will rake. I’d take three months of that and ride it into the playoffs.

Just curious… What makes you think Shelby Miller will be shut down in two months?

In the past 2 seasons he has had 140 & 150 innings pitched. It would seem that he would be on pace for somewhere near 180-190 this season. A comparison would be Lance Lynn who pitched 164 IP in 2010, 109 in 2011 & 176 in 2012. Lynn’s 2011-2012 jump was pretty extreme for a young pitcher and if you are taking pitching deep into games as an indication of an early shutdown then Lynn in 2012 only made it out of the 6th inning 2-3 times after May and still pitched until the end of September.

    • JB Gilpin

      JB Gilpin says:

      • Juancarlo Lleno de Odio says:
        (link)

@JB Gilpin: I have a decent group that plays with me, they like it because it makes watching games on Sunday more fun. Also a lot of us played actual football so we like the IDP because we relate. Defense in real life is fun. I think the problem with IDP is there is no real default settings. At the end of the season 2 of your top 5 players are going to be LB’s and they are either going to come from later in the draft or the free agent pool, which makes everyone feel like they came up big with one of their stars, never realizing we all did. It keeps them coming back, that and the 200 plus points you score a week. I hate team defense, thats about as exciting as a back up kicker

We are going to break Sky’s cherry this year in our league.

@Juancarlo Lleno de Odio: It was more than a QP… more than 1/3 of a pound, actually. Reports were that it weighed-in at 5.7 ounces. Which, um…maybe he knows something we don’t, is really going on the 60-day DL, and was just preparing for all that downtime?

          • Juancarlo Lleno de Odio says:
            (link)

@Rye or the Kaiser Soze: I’m a Bruin fan, give me an 8 clap, but damn, is Bauer an embarassment to you?

          • Rye or the Kaiser Soze says:
            (link)

@Juancarlo Lleno de Odio: Why, cuz of his sweet rapping style? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0XUs1kob68

Bauer is a joke. My buddy played with him when they were at UCLA. He said that the Arizona GM told Bauer before his last game with the big league club, that if he shook off another sign, then he’d never throw another pitch for the D’Backs. Sure enough, he shook one off, got sent down to the minors, and was traded for pennies on the dollar not too long after.

I haven’t followed their current team so much since I graduated. For some reason I never took as much interest in Bruins baseball compared with football or basketball. It was pretty fun watching Cole and Bauer pitch them to the finals in 2010, though.

              (link)

@Rye or the Kaiser Soze: yes and that he is a big douche bag ala Cade McNown

They are playing Fullerton this weekend and the winner goes to the World Series. The ace of the Bruins is one of my old teachers son and the ace of the Titans played ball 5 minutes from my house. Savage has done a great job.

How great was that football win this year over the trojans, especially when Barr jacked up Barkley’s shoulder on that sack. On the basketball side I’m not a fan of Alford, we’ll see how that turns out

              • Rye or the Kaiser Soze says:
                (link)

@Juancarlo Lleno de Odio: Not a fan of Alford and I despise Dan Guerrero. Dude got lucky with Savage and Mora, otherwise he’d surely have gotten canned by now.

The ‘SC game was probably the highlight of my year so far. Was with a group of about 10 Bruin fans at a bar in Manhattan Beach – heavily outnumbered by Spoiled Children. So much fun talking shit and watching the look on their faces as their season went down the shitter.

For example, the Hitter-tron rates Choo (24.1) and Marte (25.0) very high for today, but they’re hitting .125 and .167, respectively, over the last week. Then there’s Todd Frazier (a 6.5 on the Hitter-tron) hitting .458 over the last week, with five multi-hit games in a row. Is all that taken into account in the formula? Or could Frazier be a better start than one of these slumping hitters?

A lot of Cole questions; Pickup Cole and cut Rutledge off my bench. 13 team deep 6×6 mixed daily league. Cole wont be a keeper. My other starters are Wainwright,Sale,Kuroda,Ryu ,Greinke,Minor and Hughes.

Trade Crisp for Austin Jackson? Crisp for Cobb? Crisp for Hamels? H2H points league favors power. I have Crisp sitting on bench right now…my 3 OF league roster is pretty good with JUp, McCutchen, CDavis, Fowler but never hurts to upgrade if possible. Other team has 2 DL’d OFers and may need a live bat. My pitching could use a little upgrade with Peavy going down but still have Bum/Iwa/Scherzer/AJ. Would you take all, some, or none of the 3 ideas above?

        @Grey:

Thanks Grey – I’m in first thanks to your advice so I don’t have many needs. My weakest bats are SS and C, which are the best places for weakness. I’m just trying to maybe upgrade a bench bat for something better. My team:

        C: JP
        1: Goldy
        2b: Pedroia
        ss: A.Escobar
        3b: Machado
        IF: Rizzo
        OF: JUpton/CDavis/McCutchen
        UT: Fowler
        B: A.Ramirez, Crisp, Franklin

        SP: Bum/Scherzer/AJ/Neise
        RP: Iwakuma/Wacha
B: Grilli, Wheeler, Miley (2 start spot)
        IR: Peavy, Beachy

I’m struggling with steals(8th place, 4 points) but i should pull the trigger right? I traded for Ian Desmond when Reyes got hurt, i also have Jed Lowrie and Nick Franklin as insurance and backup. Joyce has been good for me but he’s a pure platoon player and i have Brantley and Seth Smith to do the same thing if necessary.

Would really appreciate any and all advice, love this site and all the contributors, really appreciate your work.

Maybe, I missed it, but why was Nick Franklin’s name changed to Edmundo for a few days? I take pride in the fact that I have the whitest team in my league and I was pissed when I saw he was being called Edmundo earlier this week. He must’ve taken my tweets to heart and changed it back to Nick. wtf

Grey, Kennedy’s fastball death fantasy made me cry with laughter instead of remorse this morning since he is on my roster. On a more serious note (did I really say that about fantasy baseball?) – Would you drop him? Please rank him with these possible pick ups Josh Johnson, Teheran, Wheeler and Griffin.

Should I pick up Garrit Cole? I lost Peavy for the time being obviously in 3 of 4 leagues and would like to trade for a pitcher, but in hoping Wheeler is the real deal or to snag a waiver wire gem. Thoughts?

The MI carousel continues. I want off this ride! Would you drop Weeks for Alcides Escobar? He clears waivers Sunday. Looks like Weeks is stuck in a serious platoon with SCOOTER. How embarrassing.

Also, who would you drop Straily for out of this group: Norris, Ubaldo, Stults, Hammel, Tillman, Chatwood, Hughes, Turner, Danks..
