Two-start hoarders, welcome back.  First things first:  I’m vacationing in Mexico with what, by now, is a potentially-fatal sunburn.  Not to worry, though, because the cervezas at this joint are unlimited, and I’m feelin’ no pain.  Zero.  I just arrived here yesterday, and I’ll be here through next Friday.  That means my esteemed Razzball colleagues will be filling in for me in the comments for my next few posts.  In any case, we’ve got a deep list of two-start options, and plenty of good streamers this week.  The usual tiered rankings are below.

NOTE:  I looked ahead at the two-start landscape a few days earlier than usual this week, so this group of probable pitchers is especially subject to change.  Apologies in advanced for anything I may have missed.  For a look at all fantasy baseball streamers, click that link.

MUST START

Max Scherzer (@CLE, TEX); Matt Harvey (@SF, @PIT); Felix Hernandez (BOS, LAA); CC Sabathia (KC, MIN); Shelby Miller (HOU, @CHC); Justin Verlander (CHW, TEX); Hisashi Iwakuma (BOS, LAA);

  • Start ‘em if you got ‘em.

FIRST TIER

Homer Bailey (@MIL, @ATL); Jeff Locke (OAK, NYM); Randall Delgado (LAD, MIL); Derek Holland (@BAL, @DET); Tyler Chatwood (@SD, @LAD); Matt Garza (LAA, STL); Bartolo Colon (@PIT, BOS); James Shields (@NYY, @CLE); Julio Teheran (@MIA, CIN); Jhoulys Chacin (@SD, @LAD)

  • With a large slate of games this week, there are plenty of high-impact two-starters and a good number of them are streamable.  Randall Delgado (2% owned in Y! leagues) has been offering solid mixed league production for a month now.  He get’s a tough one versus LA to begin the week, but ends the week with the cupcake Brewers.  Both Jhoulys Chacin (29%) and Tyler Chatwood (16%) have been dominant pitchers away from Coors (Chatwood has an outstanding 0.82 ERA on the road this season), and both draw two away starts next week.  There’s a bit of uncertainty regarding Matt Garza’s (70%) status in the Cubs rotation, given the likelihood that he gets traded, but there’s been no definitive word.  For now, he’s pitching wonderfully, and he’s on track for two starts in week 15.  Both Garza and Julio Teheran (76%) might be available in some shallow formats.  The rest of this group is certainly owned.

SECOND TIER

Kyle Lohse (CIN, @ARI); Scott Feldman (TEX, TOR); Hector Santiago (@DET, @PHI); Ricky Nolasco (ATL, WAS); Mike Minor (@MIA, CIN); Edinson Volquez (COL, SF); Jon Lester (@SEA, @OAK); Tony Cingrani (@MIL, @ATL); Zack Greinke (@ARI, COL); Roberto Hernandez (MIN, HOU); Taylor Jordan (@PHI, @MIA); Cole Hamels (WAS, CHW); Eric Stults (COL, SF); David Phelps (KC, MIN);
Chris Archer (MIN, HOU); Martin Perez (@BAL, @DET)

THIRD TIER

Tim Lincecum (NYM, @SD); Ross Detwiler (@PHI, @MIA); John Lannan (WAS, CHW); Josh Johnson (@CLE, @BAL); Barry Zito (NYM, @SD); Scott Kazmir (DET, KC); Donovan Hand (CIN, @ARI); Ian Kennedy (LAD, MIL); Allen Webster (@SEA, @OAK); Zach Britton (TEX, TOR); Ubaldo Jimenez (TOR, KC); Kyle Gibson (@TB, @NYY)

  • Those of you who are desperate for some two-start action in your life might find some luck here in tier three, but as always, I advise against digging this deep.  Tim Lincecum is probably the best upside play from this group, facing a couple nice match-ups.  Barry Zito, likewise, brings upside against the same schedule, but neither Lincecum nor Zito has been a steady option this season.  Ross Detwiler and John Lannan, too, face a light schedule in the week ahead, but it’s difficult to trust either at this point.  There are plenty of better options than what this third tier has to offer, so please do your best to stay out of this group in week 15.

DON’T START

Jeremy Guthrie (@NYY, @CLE); Samuel Deduno (@TB, @NYY)

  • Nope.

H2h weekly points league- would you start lincecum and Lester (both have favorable 2-starts) over Cliff Lee v Wash and Ryu @ Az? Thanks!

  2. madden_curser says:
    (link)

Traded Hamilton for Grabderson, dropped Cobb, moved Granderson to DL, picked up Garza. Already have Trout, Gomez, Choo, Dom Brown, & Wil Myers at OF & Util, so I can afford to wait for Grandy. Did I di okay there? Hamiltom showing signs of improvement, but tired of waiting for him to come around… I will grab and stash Cobb on DL again, if/when the opportunity arises. Thanks!

    • Terse

      Terse says:

@madden_curser: If you can wait for Granderson, then it’s not too bad. Hamilton is improving, so I don’t think this will really be an impact move

Raul Ibanez or Chris Carter, ROS, AL-only with OBP?

  7. Kobayashi Maru says:

Bummgarner or Felix? I have the option of either in a trade. Keeper auction league where Bummgarner was drafted at $18, and could be kept for $23 next season, Felix would be $33

  9. Dave the Barber says:
    (link)

I think I’m going to go ahead and bench Greinke. I just traded Nick Franklin for Ryu and I got Kershaw for Dom Brown (Shameless bragging I know I know) so I don’t need that drama. I’ve been tryna move Greinke all week but the best deal I got was me giving Sandoval and Greinke and getting Brett Gardner and Jason Vargas. Anyway, I just cut Gallardo Monday, and I don’t wanna go through a 2 start week like this one again. He’s gonna smacked again today. I hope he takes a liner of the shin and get’s pulled in the first, after recording an out of course.

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Dave the Barber: dammit. damn you. I have Gallardo! We need K’s. K’S DAMMIT. I also have Greinke…. and I see a turnaround down the Dodgers’ payoff stretch

      • Dave the Barber says:
        (link)

@Terse: What makes you think Greinke turns it around?

        • Terse

          Terse says:
          (link)

@Dave the Barber: He’s not throwing his slider that much and when he does it’s not very effective this year. He’s getting a lot more fly-balls than usual and they’re flying out at a kinda high rate for Dodgers stadium. Once he gets the slider feel back, I think he’ll get more grounders, like he’s used to.

that’s my opinion, FIP and xFIP are both high

          • Dave the Barber says:
            (link)

@Terse: Good to know. I was thinking about selling low but I’m just gonna stash him for a week or so and see if you’re right.

  10. Jason says:
    (link)

What would be fair to get Kershaw? The guys dead last in Saves and I have 5 closers now (Romo, Holland, Parnell, Mujica, Uehera). I have Corbin, Greinke, Ryu, Moore, & Bailey, with Peavy on the DL. I was thinking of offering Greinke and a closer, but cannot decide what would be fair to him and not be too damaging to my saves long term. I was thinking Parnell, but I don’t think that would be enough. I was then thinking Mujica.

So Greinke & Mujica for Kershaw….????

    Thanks.

    • Kobayashi Maru says:
      (link)

@Jason: I wouldn’t do that deal with you in a million years, and the Kershaw owner will probably feel the same way.

      • Jason says:
        (link)

I was thinking the same thing. That’s why I never sent the offer.

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Jason: hell yeah I’d do it if I were you and he were to accept

    • Terse

@Jason: If you coudl spin it, just trade two closers for Kersh

      • Jason says:
        (link)

Just an update. But the other manger accepted my offer of Greinke & Mujica for Kershaw.

  11. Emily says:
    (link)

Is it worth activating Sanchez today for his first start off the DL? Or should I wait until the next one? Currently winning all of my h2h pitching categories except losses and ERA, and I have Strasburg and Corbin starting tomorrow

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Emily: just keep him in DL

  12. Jon says:
    (link)

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Jon: if you’re hungry for K’s, go Hector. Otherwise, Jhoulya98eas in San Diego is pretty solid

  13. Edward Scherzer Hands says:
    (link)

Would you pick up Headley in a 12Team ObP Keeper league? I would drop Rendon from my bench. Right now I have Beltre as 3B and Carpenter as OF/backup 3B.

  14. otaku91 says:
    (link)

Thinks it’s time to drop BJ Upton in a 12 team mixed?

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@otaku91: that’d sting pretty bad, because, as everyone notes, he can go off at any minute. If he’s really locking up your roster, drp him, otherwise hold

      • otaku91 says:
        (link)

@Terse: I can afford to keep on the bench for now, but I want t drop him out of spite. I guess I will try and resist the urge.

@Splendid Sphincter: I don’t think so. Control problems after that surgery. Even if he’s decent I don’t think it’ll be anything special

  17. Jay says:

Just read that hector Santiago faces the cubs not Detroit in his first start like you have him. Given that how do you feel about Santiago this week?

Also for ROS Adam Dunn or Ike Davis?

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Jay: Obviously like him a bit more, but still walking guys. Def a start now, though, while you wouldn’t have vs. detroit

  19. QMoney says:
    (link)

In a weekly league, I decided to go with Roberto Hernandez vs Min and Hou instead of Randall Delgado (Brewers are cupcakes? dunno about that) and Hector Santiago (not good vs lefty batters and the Phillies are entirely lefty except Delmon Young).

  20. Brewerfan says:
    (link)

    Homer Bailey or Samardzija ROS?

    • Terse

      Terse says:

@Brewerfan: Bailey. Better WHIP and better chance for Ws. Ks not that much worse, either.

  21. Subs81 says:
    (link)

Think starlin will ever get his crap together

Looking to send segura/ ryu for scherzer Castro but I need Castro ( a non keeper) to round to form so I’m not hurt in the BA obP R too much

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Subs81: i do think he will. low BAbip for line-drive percentage. If Segura is a keeper, though, and starlin isn’t, I wouldn’t pull the trigger

  22. Mike says:
    (link)

My main second baseman has been Ben Zobrist , last week I picked up Aaron hill- would you keep Hill around longer with Zobrist’s struggles? I like keeping Zobrist because if I can plug him at OF, SS & 2B

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@Mike: gotta love Zobrist’s versatility. they’re interchangeable, trade one for a need

    help ive inherited a horrid SP squad team… gausman..eovaldi..casner..joe kelly..de la rosa..garret cole..hefner..kyle gibson..ogando ans RP Frieri…ANY IDEAS?

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@pooter toes: you’re not really giving me much information here. Trade gausman to someone that truly believes. Same with De la rosa. Cole is a work in progress and you can probably get good return on him. Like Kelly and Cashner. Ogando too

  24. Steve Stevenson says:
    (link)

In a must-win H2H matchup next week, with the same number of starts as my opponent. Is it worth picking up Chacin for the 1-start edge if it means dropping Cashner, Parker or Lester?

      (link)

@Steve Stevenson: if you have to win, drop cashner

  25. TheNewGuy says:

Hi Terse whoever you are (sounded like tense initially…sorry).

Pick 2 of 3 of these 1B MOFOs:

    Lind, laRoche, Ike Davis.

Are you back on the Ike bandwagon?

    • Terse

      Terse says:
      (link)

@TheNewGuy: lol Hello, I’m Terse. Razz’s keeper writer. Terse is its own word, but yeah I hear ya. No tenseness, here.

Laroche is in a diff class, so he’s your clear #1. If you’re in a re-draft, then I think you’d be better off with Lind (you need players now who are producing NOW). in a keeper, you want ike davis

    • Brooke says:
      (link)

By the way, Scott, if you happen to be close to the town of Michoacán Mexico would you mind stopping by Gallardo’s grandparents house to give them a message from me?

If you get the chance, Please tell them that I pray to the Myans that their Grandson gets a flesh eating disease, Gonorrhea and Bells Palsy, Dies and then rots in Hell. Thanks Scott!

@Brooke: Hi brooke, gotta start cingrani w/ the two starts, and SON says Shelby. I agree

  28. bossmanjunior says:
    (link)

    Parker or Ogando?

Both players just hit the waiver and I could use another starter. Parker has been great the past couple months but only has one start left before the break at home against the Red Sox. I’d hate to pick him up and then immediately bench him until after the allstar break. Thanks.
