Well, he did hit 15 homers against both sides last year, but I see your point. BTW, this was the news on him today “Phillips, who is mired in a slump, was held out of the lineup on Friday by manager Dusty Baker in order to clear his mind, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.” I didn’t think it’d come until July, but there ya go.

@Steve: Gotcha -- I like Melky, Werth (for now), Ethier, Diaz then Felipe -- in that order. So if need something other than OF, then Felipe. But I wouldn't care about having too much OF, just want the best players. I would start Cantu since Howard is not playing today. But I wouldn't start him after that over Howard, no matter the slump.

@Grey: Didn’t explain myself very well. Only starting Cantu over Howard today when Howard is off. Cantu would be a bench guy if I kept him. Same for Felipe. I take it you like?
Reason I like these guys is that my current bench are all OFs plus Kelly Johnson (we have separate OF positions in my league) so I’d like to add some infield filler.
Other hitters besides Ethier I could grab instead of Andruw include:
Cuddyer
Melky
Felipe
Diaz
Suzuki
Luke Scott
Teahen
Werth
Doumit
Again, a lot of OFs there, but I can live with that if they’re going to help my team.

@2&Fro: I don't think you're crazy, just a crazy Tribe fan. You're right about his minor league K numbers, but he's 29 this year. I think we can find numbers to support both of our cases, so it's a bit of a guessing game. @IowaCubs: I have Looper and Shawn Hill in my NL-Only league so I know about digging for gold where there isn't always any there. I think Andrew Miller could be a great pitcher one day. I don't think that day is next week. A usable pitcher for NL-Only? Also not this week. I mean, he's been dusted by the Nats (twice!) already this season.

Cliff Lee was this kind of strike out pitcher in the minors and his first couple stints in the majors. He hasn’t yet pitched against a good offense but I think he can post 2005 numbers with more Ks. Am I crazy?

@IowaCubs: I wouldn’t be starting Miller right now even in a NL-Only league. No matter the opponents. I’m hoping it’s a keeper or really deep or I have to question why Miller’s even on your team.

re: starters against each other — Verlander vs. CM Wang — starting both — Lowe vs. Maddux – starting both — Ubaldo vs. Kyle Kendrick — probably starting neither — so depends on matchup but I’ll start two good pitchers who are facing each other, sure.

I have Andrew Miller in my NL Only league. I’ve been benching him all season, but he has two starts in week 5 against Lowe and Maddux (rosters set Mondays). Based on his last start, would I be stupid to go against the Lowe/Maddux gauntlet, even though the Pads and the Dodgers offenses have struggled this year, and the fish are on fire lately?

Also, what is your opinion on starting your pitchers against eachother. I happen to own Maddux and Lowe as well.

Hey Grey – as I’ve mentioned previously , I drafted Andruw Jones, but have hardly used him so he hasn’t done me too much damage. But Andre Ethier is available in my league. This is probably a stupid question, but I’m better off with him as a bench player, aren’t I?

Also – what do you make of Cantu? I’ve grabbed him as a sub while Howard gets his shit together, but his 1B/3B eligibility has me thinking he might be worth hanging on to…

And in the same versatility vein, any thoughts on Felipe Lopez (2B/SS/LF)?
