@A Hill O’ Beans, Similar timetable as Taveras, actually. Shouldn’t be too long. An injury to Kinsler or Andrus and Profar might get a call-up THIS year. Same for Taveras — if Beltran/Craig/Berkman aren’t healthy, he’ll likely get a look. Assuming no injuries, though, both guys should arrive in late 2013.

@Scott Evans, Yeah I realize they are pretty rare players. Just looking for a key future piece on offense. Myers & Bundy are gone, Taveras & Walker aren’t in the player pool. When do you think Profar gets his first call and when do you think he might be up to stay? He was near the top of my list, but I was under the impression it would be a long wait for him.

@A Hill O’ Beans, Prospects like Harper/Trout don’t come around very often, and frankly, no one currently in the minors compares. With that in mind, here are five names with big time potential: Jurickson Profar (ss, Tex), Oscar Taveras (of, Stl), Wil Myers (of, KC), Dylan Bundy (rhp, Bal), Taijuan Walker (RHP, Sea).

Who are your top 3 guys that haven’t been called up yet that have Trout/Harper like potential to be offensive powerhouses for the next 10 years? Preferably guys that will get a look sometime next year. I’m looking for someone to hold as a 20th round keeper this year (18th next year, etc).

Good news, my boy Straily called up. Upside potential for him, a no2 Dan Haren type?

Got him in my keeper farm so will have him for $0 next year, and then probably a further 2 years for just $6. Could be an awesome value.

@Buddo Chezuski, No, I’d say Rendon’s stock took a bigger hit this year than Arenado’s. I’ll rank them Taillon, Arenado, Rendon, but all three ceilings remain very high.

Arenado
Rendon
Taillon

(I’m guessing Arenado would’ve been 1 or 2 before the season but is now 3rd?)

@Scott Evans, Olts on-base skills were what led to me choosing him over Middlebrooks in my preseason prospect draft. Looks like I nailed that one then (my leagues uses OBP over AVG), well as long as he hits that is. Should get some meatballs in that lineup though, few better offensive environments to thrive than Tex.

@TheNewGuy, 1) Looks like he’ll play on most days — don’t think they’d have called him up if they didn’t plan on using him often. If things go well, yes, I’d expect him to start in the bigs next year.

2) This is always a mystery & it really depends on the club, the player and the situation. Olt’s approach is truly advanced & he should be able to get on base often right away in the bigs — I’m sure this was a major factor in the call-up.

@robbyrobdu, Hamilton has 79 PA in the high minors. That’s microscopic. And I agree with you on Castellanos — his power & approach still needs time to develop. But scouts thinks he can hit big league pitching now. I haven’t heard the same re: Hamilton. You’ll have to wait on Billy, I’m afraid. Maybe some steals off the bench this year, but no real fantasy impact from him ’til 2nd half of 2013… at the soonest.

@clave, I’m not a huge fan of his, either, but opportunity to perform should be there soon. Not gonna hit for avg & K-rate will be ugly, but that hasn’t stopped us from using guys like Colby Rasmus… (note: he’s not as toolsy as Rasmus, but similar in type)

@RambleOn, Not great. Beltran will still be under contract through next season. Taveras should take over full time in 2013. But tough to predict for injury/under-performance, which could speed up his arrival.

@Parsnip, Well now that Olt’s been called up, it changes my thought on this. For this ROS I like Straily, but for a keeper, Taveras has the highest long term ceiling — no guarantee he’ll get the call, though. So I’d probably use it on Olt at this point. And I agree that Adams should get another look come September. His chances at regular play, however, all depend on health of guys like Berkman & Craig.

Wow my boy Mike Olt called up, didnt expect it to be with the Rangers. Good news having him in a keeper league, but a couple of questions:
1. Will he play everyday, if not this year then definately at the start of next? I’ve always been a fan of Mike Young but sounds like they might be benching him.
2. Why not bump him to AAA a month back, to give him a taste there first, rather than have him skip a level to the bigs? I never really understand it when teams do this.

Picked up Straily off waivers when I saw him #1 in this list, then read the writeup. Reminds me of another Saint… the Rasburg variety. Should any consideration be given to Straily having keeper potential (5 keepers)?

Why exactly is Billy Hamilton’s hitting not there? Castellanos’ power and patience at AA is what’s not there.

.408 OBP, 12/15 BB/K, .297 AVG (.333 over last 10)…only 20 games but that coupled with an .845 OPS are hardly anything but EXCITING!

Not to mention the EXPECTATION that Cinci was going to add the leadoff hitter that they DESPERATELY NEED At the trade dealine…and you have a legit prospect watch.

By the way Castellanos has a 5/43 BB/K and .790 OPS…very underwhelming for a guy with no speed who’s power has not developed (6 HR, 11 2B, 200 AB…ouch).

Numbers Never Lie. Hamilton for this year…and personally Hamilton for the future as well.
