New year, new Halph! Not that different from the old Halph, but Halph nevertheless. This week’s episode involves us delving into a duo of systems in the Mets and the Twins, with plenty of the typical mindless banter for good measure. We crush on Thomas Szupucki together, and figure out where Rosario slots in among the elite shortstop prospects. Over the course of the show we come to a pair of conclusions that Amazin’ has an underrated system, and that the Twins have 4 prospects. Seriously, 4. Maybe 5, could be a stretch. There’s a lot of pitching prospect talk on this one, but knowing top Mets prospect pitchers is to love them. Amirite? Yeah, you’re nodding your head, it’s cool. So grab a cold one, or a hot one, and tune into the latest episode of the Razzball prospect podcast.

    Hey Ralph!!

16 Team H2H Dynasty, who do you prefer…?

Jarod Dyson or Mitch Hanigar or Charlie Tilson. I dont really need speed as I have Altuve and Villar just looking for a bat as hitting is a premium as the wire is always thin.

    Thanks

@DanTheMetsFan: tilson/dyson straight up SAGNOF’s. of course all either are or could/should end up being real life 4th OF’ers. hanigar could (and has already) hit for power, of course his park just got a shit load worse.

      @DanTheMetsFan: I’d grab Haniger.

@Ralph Lifshitz: You think his power and skill set hold up in Seattle?

Yeah, it’s tough to think his power totals would be equal to what they would be at Chase, but he’s got an opportunity, a quick bat, and has shown an improved ability to drive the ball. The other guys are also very uninteresting.

Haniger it is… thank you kind fellows

nice on the portuguese area (for often aesthetic reasons in a good chunk of the mono chromosomed)
having read a lot about (from last year’s books/lists) and owning gsellman (and lugo) in many leagues last year i figured that wasn’t really this for real, at least not being 3rd in NYM system. helps explain why he went at 1.20 and szapucki at 2.10. i figured this was more of a function of NY being large media market more than anything else.
draft is nearly 1/3 of way done, an unprecedented number of pitchers have gone, even after some CI’s going for correction lately, currently at 55% P rate. my upcoming pick will clearly be a hitter since so many very high ones left.
now with only these from top 60ish (1st year and sixto mixed in) left: sixto sanchez/lauer/v.gutierrez/c.perez (HOU)/bolanos
i’ll have 2 picks in next round and probably grab a pitcher there, would any of these slot into that group (or maybe just after)
gowdy PHI, hearn PIT, alcantara STL, speas TEX, zeuch TOR, diplan MIL, puckett KC,
albertos CUBS, mata BOS (you’ve mentioned by name, but probably later on him). most of those you’ve mentioned somewhere.

@goodfold2: throw mason thompson SD in there (obviously he’s behind the 5 in the top 60 1st year + sixto)

@goodfold2: gowdy off that list, he’s gone.

@goodfold2: So Sixto, Gutierrez, and Perez are there still?

I’d rank them. Gutierrez, Sixto, Lauer, Perez, Abertos, Diplan, Zeuch, Mata, Speas, Alcantara, and Puckett. You said Gowdy was gone so I didn’t rank him.

@Ralph Lifshitz: yeah, under an hour ago. thanks, good stuff here for rest of draft if/when i grab any pitchers (maybe 2-3 out of next 6 picks)

Hey Ralph! Came across a random YouTube vid of you talking about Keon Brox (and Panda!) – good stuff! very excited for Keon, esp in obp leagues.

Speaking of, my 12 team OBP/OPS H2H league is going keeper, beginning this draft. Keep 5, greater of 10% inflation or $3 (making it more expensive to keep top guys). Auction draft, but unlimited waiver grabs ($5 to keep) during the season. There are only 9 offensive slots, so elite bats are really valuable.

Surveyed Grey for this one too, but what high end talents you’d be targeting if you had free reign?

Given the unlimited waivers for roster tweaking and pitcher grabbing, thinking it might be worth making it a point to lock up 3-5 elite bats (particularly Harper Correa Goldy types who might come at a very slight discount compared to last year, and OBP beast Votto) then sneaking in Bennetendi Moncada broxton types in at the end.

    Thanks! !

@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: Yeah little side thing I’m testing out, having some fun with.

Yeah I mean I think you want two elite bats if at all possible. I’d want one of the guys you mentioned, or Rizzo, Encarncion, Betts, and most of all try and land Trea Turner. Kid is a stud. If it’s OBP then Votto is great, as is Freeman (and a little slept on). Benintendi is legit and great for OBP. Maikel Franco is a favorite of mine, and I’d look at Mike Moustakas as a late round guy that could have huge returns, before the injury last season his power was trending in the right direction.

@Ralph Lifshitz: thanks! Really helpful. Turner I love – worried he’ll go too high and shade with Villar instead…how much out of 260 would you put Turner before letting him go to someone else?

          (link)

@Duda Want to Build a Snowman?: that’s tough, I consider him an elite bat. So however much you had budgeted toward one of those. Auctions are so League dependent. Probably wouldn’t go over 40

          • Duda Want to Build a Snowman? says:
            (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: thanks! Hopefully I can sneak him in for high 20s/low 30s – this league is pretty married to ESPN default auction values.

wow, you weren’t wrong about those billy butler comps and bad defense having moved him down traditional prospect lists on will craig, just got him all the way down at pick 2.19 (i.e. 55th overall). scariest part i can find on him is “no game power with wooden bats yet”, but appears to be awesome OBP guy with i’d think minimum 18 homers once he’s a regular. if he has to DH by age 25 from bad D why the F do i care (unless he loses his CI at some point, which is outside possibility of course)

    • Ralph Lifshitz

@goodfold2: Yeah, I’m not sweating the power too much, he can hit. If he looked Yoan Moncada he would have gone JB the top 10.
