We know how much you miss JB’s Brewers takes after only getting a small sliver in the Winter Meetings episode of the Razzball Baseball Podcast. So we brought North Cackalacky’s number one Brewers fan to aid Michael Halpen (of Imaginarybrickwall.com *plug*) and I in our disection of the Brew Crew’s system. Some how, some way, I managed to not quote Alice’s Cooper’s “The Good Land” rant from Wayne’s World. I’m full of surprises, and Christmas cookies. Any the who, we talk all the Top Brewers prospects, and damn are there a lot of them. I’m talking a system with a stacked amount of talent featuring names like Lewis Brinson, Josh Hader, Corey Ray, Isan Diaz, and many many more. Seriously so many I needed two manys. JB, a stocked system, a jelly donut disagreement, this is guarenteed to be a classic episode. It’s the latest edition of the Razzball Fantasy Baseball Prospect Podcast. Oh yeah, Happy New Year!

Great job fellas, I really enjoyed the podcast.

Lewis Brinson is stashed on my minor league roster (16 team dynasty league) which makes me happy.

I’ve been offered a trade: Anderson Espinoza for Lewis Brinson — what do you guys think?

    Thanks!

    • Halp says:
      (link)

@Racehorse: Thanks, Racehorse! I would stick with Brinson for sure. I would think he will even rank higher on most non fantasy lists as well.

      • Ralph Lifshitz

        Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Halp: I would agree there’s too much risk with a young arm like that.

  5. Racehorse says:
    (link)

    One more –

I also gave Gilbert Lara stashed, same roster with Brinson. I was planning to cut Lara, but now I’m gonna keep him after hearing what you guys had to say on the podcast.

That said, is Gilbert Lara far enough along for a respectful counter offer for Anderson Espinoza?

Not trying to sound ridiculous – I already floated in my league that Lara was a probable cut (yes, I’m not much of a poker player, but I like to talk prospects).

    What do you guys think?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:
      (link)

@Racehorse: No, Lara’s not there yet. If I owned Espinoza I’d want a lot more.

      • Halp says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: Yea, agreed. I get your thinking, and their value probably isn’t as far off as the perception, but Espinosa is just far too hyped on prospect lists and Lara is barely talked about for it to be a worthy offer

      • Racehorse says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: ok, got it, thanks fellas.

Enyoy all of your good work, looking forward to the next podcast – HNY!

here’s the TOR list, minor league ball’s finished there’s so it’s probably pretty close, the ratings are mlb.com’s and these do move a lot from year to year (i see dalbec’s got an “at least 60 power rating” now accoring to minor league ball in their very recently released BOS list, last year 55). as with WAS any obvious name is already owned, just want to see if the list order looks mostly good and any diamond is outright missing.

@goodfold2: Is this their list or just the guys you have available in your league?

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: it mostly follows their list (some movement) incorporates at least some of the mlb.com list, and all guys listed are only the unowned guys. everybody else that is on either list (not counting every one of the bottom of the minorleagueball guys) is already owned in league. sounds like draft is starting early tomorrow rather than the 3rd (technically today)

        • goodfold2 says:
          (link)

@goodfold2: a better way of putting that is it’s all the unowned guys from league ordered mostly by minorleagueball’s list with some mlb.com ordering due to their ratings in some instances (rios lower than he would be in mlb.com since it’s pretty damn likely he’s ONLY a RP with low ratings)

      • goodfold2 says:
        (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: ok so i guess that list is close enough.

at 19th overall i’m gonna get one of thaiss/craig/kirilloff or even orna. 9/18th of picks have been SP so far. threw out otani since i read about new rules making it very likely he’s not over till post 2017 season. need hitting more than pitching, and probably power OF more than CI. probably kirilloff.

          • goodfold2 says:
            (link)

@Ralph Lifshitz: without even looking (yet) at that article i read 2 just like it. meaning if i drafted him now i’d lose any value for the pick this year and would get 1.19A (i.e. 1.20) next year.

            had a guy trying to trade me his 1.26 + 2.10 + 2018 5th rounder for my 1.19 (right now pick) + 2.19
i told him if the 5th was a 4th i’d do it, he’s sticking on it being a 5th. i’m gonna just take kirilloff. don’t want to risk maybe missing both of kirilloff/orna with how much i need a power OF with all around tools.

            • goodfold2 says:
              (link)

@goodfold2: even with 30 (now 35) minor spots my only power OF guy is cozens. this year’s draft seems more filled with similar leveled CI than OF, at least in power.

@Ralph Lifshitz: yeah, i think at least 4 articles like that came out from the 8th-12th dec. that one was NYY centric, but point was the same.

draft started, already 7 guys gone, all of them in your top 18. ray/collins still around, but doubt they are at pick 19. here’s STL and due to being deep system of mid-level types there’s probably a chance i’m missing something more than with WAS/TOR. all these are unowned, list here based mostly from minorleagueball’s list, ratings from mlb.com’s. all obvious types owned. draft is going faster than i would’ve thought too, so i’m quickly making these up for after i blow through your top 60ish. puk went 2nd, like you guys like, senzel 1st.

Great podcast guys! JB needs to buck up already on his love for the Brewers’ system. Too many bats is never a bad thing.

Anyway, regarding the Brett Phillips talk, I may have mentioned this on here before but in listening to him get interviewed late in the season on Adam McCalvy’s Brewers on Tap podcast (after my Razzball ones, of course), Phillips was asked basically what happened this year & he said previously they had him batting at or near the top of the order. This year they asked him to bat in the 3-5 hole more which, per him, changed his mindset, made him press, and resulted in a plunge in numbers. We’ll see what they do w/him this year but he didn’t think at the time it wasn’t anything he couldn’t straighten out for what that’s worth.

One other prospect question I either missed on the show or you missed him: I see Michael Reed high on some others’ prospect lists. Where if anywhere does he rank in the team’s minors hierchy in your eyes?

    • Ralph Lifshitz

      Ralph Lifshitz says:

@Clint: Good stuff on Phillips, he’s a solid but low IMO.

i just noticed something weird when going to cross off f.whitley SP HOU from my team lists based around yours. he’s not listed anywhere in HOU’s team page (is listed at #25 in your top 55 first year guys though). i figured that would make him one of the many HOU specs on beach. also if you search his name he is tagged on HOU’s page, but no blurb, almost like you wrote the blurb and it got deleted accidentally when posted.

So I am in a rebuild and everyone wants all my guys for nothing, but I can’t get all high and mighty since by the time I compete some guys will be worthless to me.

15 team dynasty, 30 mlb/20 milb if that matters. 5×5 roto.

Is Andrew STevenson enough in return for Leonys Martin?

I figure Stevenson will basically be the same kind of player with less power and more avg but maybe I should risk holding on to Leonys to prop up his value. I just worry he sucks (sorry Grey) and Stevenson will build on his AFL.

    What say you?

    Appreciate the help

@Dave: I like Stevenson, but he’s not enough for Martin right now. You might be correct and there’s a chance he does breakout and eventually is a better player than Martin, but Inwould ask for another player in addition to Stevenson.

@Dave: Thanks, Dave! I’m a Martin believer too, so I would hold. Like Ralph mentioned, would need another piece added.
