@Grey: There's a misconception that the point of "Moneyball" was that Beane et al values OBP above all else. This is a misnomer. The point of the Beane-way-of-thinking was that there are certain baseball commodities that are undervalued across the league. At the time of the book's publishing that happened to be OBP. But, if you look at what Beane did immediately following the books release, he stacked the team with defense. Now it appears that he's stacking the A's with speed. I don't have the statistical prowess to tell you if speed is undervalued, but I'm sure he's got his numbers added and his decimals dotted. I guess the point is, like in fantasy, when everyone else zigs (OBP) you zag (Speed/Defense).

@Stephen: I'd try to spend around $20 on both. Ideally, I'd get one guy for around $12 and the other for around $5-8. Think Soto and Iannetta or Montero and Hernandez or Napoli and Hernandez, etc. There's a top 20 catcher post.

Looks like Reyes is 100% healthy and apparently ready for spring training:

I’m surprised that Ted Lilly didn’t crack your top 60. I’d surely take him over a schmohawk like Blanton or Dice-K but that’s just me.

@Grey: Yea i caught some heat for reaching for Youk, but I managed to balance it out. I just have that "Need a 1B/3B duo before end of 2nd" mentality. And agreed on the Peavy note. He was my leats favorite pick of the draft. I panicked because I was eyeing Bills the whole way then he got swiped one turn before me. Oh well. I'll take note on the 4th reliever tidbit. That last SP pick was a throwaway more than anything. thanks for your thoughts!

@Eddy: Nice team, probably would take a 4th reliever vs. a 7th starter, but that's a small quibble. I wouldn't take Youk in the 2nd round, but it worked out for you. Again, it's a small issue. Not loving Peavy there, but you have so much pitching that doesn't really matter either. Love the Andrus and Alcides picks that late.

@Frank Rizzo: Kouzmanoff is not a retread. Neither is Fox. Crisp, Taveras and Sheets, sure, but they came pretty cheap, so why not take a chance? It looks like the A's are emphasizing pitching (Sheets), speed (Taveras, Crisp, R. Davis) and defense (Kouz, Crisp). Certainly different from their strategy in past, but sometimes after dancing with the donkey you rode in on, you want a new donkey.

@Grey: Yeah, I guess it must be pretty bad for Padres fans when dreaming of getting closer to .500 is (correctly) deemed delusions of grandeur. I'll just take solace in the fact that if I attend 3 games, chances are I'll see at least one win. And they reduced the hot dog prices, so there's that too!
