@Grey: You're right - it did come from the 12-team 'What does it take to win' post. I was .279 for 9 pts out of 10, .265 for 6 out of 12 and .269 for 7 out of of 12. And .273 for the year in my H2H league - won AVE 11 weeks out of 24.

@Steve: I just looked up 4 teams: .270 for 10 points out of 15, .271 for 13.5 points out of 20, .271 for 9.5 points out of 14 and .272 for 9 points out of 13. I think .277 might've been for 12 teams, that would've won average in all but one of my leagues.

I must admit I have trouble keeping average-killers. I checked how 1 hitter could change your team average. I started with a team hitting .270 in 7000 ABs, and checked what adding 1 player’s stats would do.

For instance, adding Hamilton’s great year would raise your team average from .270 to .276, while Pena’s .199 would drop the team’s average to .265.

Anybody who wants to look at it can decide for themselves if it has any meaning.

@Steve: I was thinking that yesterday. The Rangers are now at a huge disadvantage and will need to out slug the Yanks for multiple games, which can be done, obviously. Don't think Lee was throwing on three days rest though anyway, since he had never before in his career.

Just read that because he threw 120 pitches yesterday, The Adverb won’t start til Game 3 of the ALCS.

I know you’ve gotta let the big dog eat, but did the Rangers make an error here? The series could be half over by the time Lee gets to the mound.

@peter: Re: Prince, I definitely feel that runs/RBI are fluky. If you have a .275, 30 HR guy hitting 3rd or 4th and playing every day he should get 100 RBI – a few less playing for the Pirates and a few more playing for the BoSox. That being said, in 2009, Prince hit .296 with a 1.049 OPS with RISP compared to .233 with a .753 OPS with RISP in 2010. Prince was terrible with RISP in 2010 so his lack of RBI wasn’t really fluky as much as it was a byproduct of him being terrible with RISP. I don’t watch Prince – I live in NYC – but I remember it took him about a month to hit his first HR and he has extreme good year/bad year splits. To me, that suggests that he presses too much coming off of the good years (“I need 2 HR and 5 or 6 RBI a week to do what I did last year”), which leads to a cold start and a bad year. Just my hunch.

Re: Loney, he is a big dude and he has extremely good line drive and contact rates. But his power gets worse and worse every year. And I think he should be hitting for a higher AVG based on his size, line drive rate and contact rates – especially since he hits in a big park. His 8-10 steals help a lot – .290-13-75-90-8 is not what you want from a typical 1B, but if you used your early picks on everyone other than a 1B then you will be okay with Loney in the middle rounds – assuming you have abnormally high power coming elsewhere (McCann, Uggla, Tulo, etc.).

@Greg Gallagher: Not sure what the drooling is about. In 2009 you could have gotten Tex in round 1 and Tulo in round 2 - now it's flipped.
