So this is the next to last baseball podcast of the regular season.  There’s still a big gala podcast at the end of the year.  LT usually comes wearing a toga and carrying a chicken.  Last year, JB wore a tuxedo and we all pointed and laughed, Smokey brought his sponsor and Nick flew down with a couple of Canadian beavers and a bottle of maple syrup… good times, sticky, but good.  But for this episode we wanted to give you something punchy, something current… so what did Nick do?  He went and did a 2014 mock draft with JB for all of you people out of it.  I wonder where JB drafted Ryan Dempster.  I’d give it a listen while I made Josh Hamilton and Jason Heyward voodoo dolls. (Good thing you’re not making an Andrew McCutchen voodoo doll because dreads are real tough to make for a doll; not that I’d know… I hate you, Whoopi Goldberg doll!).  So with all your hope gone, Nick decided to shine a teeny, tiny little flashlight (the kind you can clip to your belt buckle) of hope on your otherwise dreary fantasy baseball day.  Miggy or Trout at #1?  Who’s the first pitcher off the board?  Does Paul Goldschmidt go 3rd?  Also this week is the FINAL “Play with Rudy from Razzball” contest over at Draft Kings and Nick sold one of his kidneys to get them to put more money in the kitty.  He tried to sell his liver, but the black market doctor just laughed at him.  After the black market doctor patted his brow, why are shady doctors always sweaty?  Put on a fan!  Get in the contest, it’s cheaper than chipping in for Nick’s kidney surgery!  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Podcast (now with JB subbing in as ‘we’):

From the previous post, re: RCL:

You’re on the razor’s edge there, Somerset. You have to hold in both steals and homers which kind of pull your roster in two directions. You’re going to have to keep twisting your knobs.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

You sound like you had more confidence in me when I was waffling between 4th and 5th… Oh, I know, I’m far from a lock… Now with Domonic going down, I have just one more hitter I need to stream which makes my chances go down a tad… I also need to stream pitchers, so any day shizz could blow up… Like today’s Taijuan…

      • OaktownSteve says:
        (link)

        @Grey:

Nah I still think you’re in good shape. You’ve got some upside in pitching counters still. Having an extra streamer actually might help you in a way. Gives you the opportunity to weight steals or homers depending on how things are going and kind of shift around.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Yeah, I can lose points in ratios though too… I think pitching is probably maxed out on points, maybe one more each in wins and Ks, maybe three extra total points in pitching if everything works out, but risky to lose ratios… Steals and homers are going to very tricky…

          • OaktownSteve says:
            (link)

            @Grey:

I’ve got you going up 2 in wins and 1 more in Ks.

              Grey says:
              (link)

Yeah, I see the same, but conservatively one more in wins and one more in Ks… I should pass two people in wins, but allotting for one person passing me because wins are so fluky…

              • OaktownSteve says:
                (link)

                @Grey:

Nobody is going to pass you in wins.

don’t see any reason for the mariners to let walker pitch 5 or 6 innings
in any particular outing , from here on out .
just want to give him exposure .
so , unless you think their offense is good enough to stake him to big leads ,
early on , the chances on taijuan picking up wins seems slight .

Course if you had the DL spot, didn’t hurt to hold him in case he came back healthy and Cargo-ish. Rarely are you going to get fair value in trade for a guy like him because everybody is cooking injury risk into their offers anyway.

Very entertaining mock draft, but I got lost or you did in the second round. I heard Harper/Votto/Wright/Beltre/Darvish/Fielder/Kemp/Ellsbury/Tulo/Gomez/Machado in that order, which leaves one missing. Who did I or you miss? Thanks.

    by Jeff Lippman | CBSSports.com

There’s a ghost team in my league that is driving me crazy. He’s currently holding off the team chasing me in HRs but with Bautista down it’s unlikely, especially since he’s not going to replace him. He’s also the team with the second highest K rate per start and he would catch the team chasing me if he made all his starts, but he’s been on no pilot for the last couple months.

    • Carnac says:
      (link)

@Pete: It’s not a good matchup, very risky at best. But if your scoring system doesn’t penalize bad starts too badly, I could see taking the risk.

      • Pete says:
        (link)

@Carnac: A start that looks like 5.2 IP, 9 baserunners, 3 ER, and 4K’s with a Loss decision would still net me 2 points.

        10 points for W, -6 for L, 5 for QS
        2 per IP
        2 per K
        -1 per baserunner
        -2 per ER

        • Carnac says:

Better this week, that next week in the playoffs suppose…

    .145 AVG
    .250 OBO
    6.23 ERA (Duensing 13.50, Perkins 27.00, Jansen 9.00, Hunter 9.00)

Watching the Goldy AB in the bottom of the 8th… I love it when announcers breathlessly list a player’s stats “from the 7th inning on” and it’s almost exactly 1/3 of the overall season #s.

Just the other week the Phils announcers noted the team “has scored almost third of their runs this season AFTER the 6th inning.” “Wow, that’s a lot of runs late in the game.”

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

“Too bad the Phils were down almost 1000 runs prior to the 6th.”

  28. SteveNZ says:
    (link)

Be nice if Goldy started picking up his act. Hasn’t produced much lately.

    • Grey

      Agreed

      • Aubrey Plaza's Pillow says:
        (link)

@Grey: 0 – 15 no runs or rbi’s in last 7 games, longest homer draught of the year at 13 games (12 games twice was next longest, last hit homer on my birthday. Positive note, the K’s are slightly lower, and walks higher than during the last draught, when it looked like he was becoming all about true outcomes. He’s put the ball in play more during this draught.

Keep which two of following for next season? Kemp, Heyward and Bautista.

Best power bat rest of current season? Moss, Carter, Moreland or Morales. Playing time not a huge concern of mine.

    Thanks…

Which OF do you like best for next week based on overall production and schedule. This player would platoon with Raja (or another sagnof):

    Moss 3 @MIN 3 @TEX
    Eaton 3 @LAD 3 vCOL
    Jennings 3 vBOS 3 @MIN
    Yelich 4 vATL 4 @NYM

@Grey: I hate to say it, but I’d prefer it if Liriano didn’t go so well. Guy ahead of me (BSA) in ERA has him…

Sorry about those starts. Walker looked so promising for a while.

He’s had 0 homers, 1 RBI and 1 steal during his on fire week. He’s had 3 steals, 1 homer and 8 RBIs in the last month. His quad is wrecked and he won’t run. I love the little guy though and he can rake. He might come under value next year.

I’ve had Jimmy Rollins starting at MI all season in one league, and for some reason it just hit me this late that I could probably be doing better. I’m in the midst of a tight playoff matchup and I always like to “go with the horse that brought me,” so to speak, but I could use some SAGNOF, or at least better production, and there are some good options available. Who would you ride or die with for the rest of the year out of Rollins/Bonifacio/Starlin Castro/Rutledge/Andrelton?

So guess who just picked Rutledge back up?

And Wil Myers’ ADP just jumped up a round or so.

gross, so i bench wil myers (cause he’s been terrible), but don’t notice a-gon is out today because i’m busy doing fantasy football draft for a razzball league (super cool); would’ve had myers sub for a-gon if not for football draft. good news is i’m already winning homers/rbi’s/runs pretty easily in that league, but

@goodfold2: i should be killing my opp in OPS with those homers, and barely winning avg, instead of losing average, and barely winning OPS.

Damn, that’s a tough break… Hopefully you kicked ass in the football draft!

@Grey: yeah i’m in one of jaywrong’s leagues, i don’t know how many he has, at least 2, it seems.

three of the 4 orphan teams are run by the same commissioner. He so far has seemed like a very honest fair guy. Today I notice an email indicating that apparently the innings cap has been moved from 1500 to 1650. Nobody was told or asked about this being done. I’ve specifically dropped almost all my starters so as to not go over the innings, while leaving myself with good starts only. This is truly F’ed up for a commissioner to unilaterally change league settings in mid-season without any consultation of the league members, right?

Yeah, that’s not right at all…

@Grey: oh yeah, the email wasn’t even from the commiss either, it was from another owner thinking it’s bullshit.
