Nick had his heart set on doing a 2013 fantasy baseball mock draft.  And who am I to disappoint people?  I’m not my father!  Sorry, my shrink says it’s good to get that stuff off my chest.  The problem with doing a mock draft this early is things change even if no games are played.  People are traded, people get injured building a snow fortress with their nephew, Billy, and other people start drafting.  Yes, other people drafting makes a difference.  Say I like Adam Jones 14th overall and everyone starts drafting him 22nd overall.  Then I can go to 18th and still feel comfortable about getting him.  Finally, there were only three of us drafting so it’s not like I was worried I was going to scoop myself from a player I really wanted.  All that is okay, because this is just a mock draft.  It’s an exercise that should be taken with a grain of salt.  Okay, enough hedging — draft on, drafter!  Anyway, here’s a 2013 fantasy baseball mock draft, now with Mike Trout in the top five:

Sweet! I’m looking forward to listening to this tonight.

In the meantime, which of these sets of keepers do you prefer?

1: Posey, AGon, Hosmer, Cano, Lawrie, Frazier, Tulo, Desmond, Stanton, Ethier, Jennings, Rasmus, Bumgarner, Zimmermann

2: Santana, Freeman, Butler, Espinosa, Zimmerman, Jeter, Rollins, A Escobar, Holliday, Heyward, Choo, Gordon, Weaver, Scherzer

    Thanks!

    hi grey

following up on my earlier post, and trying to clarify my terrible and clunky question

yes, if no pitcher pitches great and no one gets shelled, my ratios will not change

maybe i can phrase my question into parts like this:

    1) what is the whip for an average streaming pitcher?
    2) would 30-35 innings of this average streaming pitcher’s whip be enough to move my season whip (1.25)? if so, how much?

i’m dealing in hundreths of whip points, with 4 teams within .02 whip of each other, so moving from 1.25 to 1.27 could lose me 3 points

    sorry for being so confusing

thanks a lot for the help

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@later tater, 1) No idea… Depends on league sizes and what pitchers are streamers… 2) Hard to say without specifics… I think you’re probably gonna lose the WHIP battle if you’re streaming, but again it’s hard to say…

  4. later tater says:

    thanks for the response

yes, i know its really hard to answer this without specifics but i figured i’d ask you before giving it any real consideration.

I ended up rolling with Sanchez last night worked out for me. Now I’m thinking I should hold him for is last start at the Twins. Don’t do me dirty, Sanchez.

How about Clayton Richard Vs LAD?

      I’d start Richard…

Possibly the last question of the year from me… I am in a close championship matchup, H2H Points League. Down to my last acquisition and i need to pick up one of the following terrible starters.

Although they all suck, which one do you think sucks the least?

    Leake @ Pitt (McPherson)
    McAllister vs KC (Odorizzi)
    Will Smith @ Cle (Huff)
    Wood @ Ari (Kennedy)
    Beavan @ Oak (Griffin)
    W.Y. Chen vs Bos (Cook)

    Thanks G!

    • Grey

      • Steve says:
        (link)

@Grey, Aww, there I was thinking that you and Michael Chang used to hit up on the mean courts of Jersey.

Or did Rudy maybe live next door to Johnny Mac? THAT would be cool.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Chang’s from Jersey? I had no idea…. Rudy grew up in the same town as Bon Jovi, ain’t that enough?

          • Steve says:
            (link)

@Grey, According to Wikipedia he is. Never liked him, though. Not because he’s from Jersey, you understand.

And not just Bon Jovi – but Greg Evigan too!

              Grey says:

BJ?! No shizz… Probably a good dozen or so years before Rudy (Bon Jovi was closer in age, but also older)…

              • Steve says:
                (link)

@Grey, Oh, and Dule Hill but weirdly I was more excited about Evigan.

Probably because my train of thought led me to Judy Landers.

                    (link)

@Grey, I did, but not to the end. Was great when it started, but I lost interest after a while.

Sometimes a show can go on too long, you know?

                    (link)

@Grey, I’ve watched it twice.Well worth it,some great moments. After Rob Lowe left they started in bringing in big namers for 1 or 2 season roles.Lily Tomlin is hilarious and Alan Alda really shows some acting chops in the final season. Also the Kay Parker whatever chick from Weeds.

@Hondo, Watched one episode twice? Or every episode twice? If latter, that’s a good sign… True about the first 2 seasons being the best seasons?

                    • Hondo says:
                      (link)

@Grey, Every episode twice. It’s been awhile but seemed a little faster paced in the early going.
It starts getting spotty around season 6 IMO,but still worth watching.I just watched season 7 the 2nd time for the sense of closure(and winter boredom).

                      (link)

@Grey, I’ve watched every episode of that twice too.

It’s probably some complex about never having had a second date.

                    • Grey

                      Grey says:
                      (link)

HA! After you kick them outta your bed, who needs to see them again, right? So, I’m guessing you’ve seen The Wire (twice)…What’s better, The Wire or Breaking Bad?

                    • Hondo says:
                      (link)

@Grey, The Wire 3 times.LOL It’s that good, plus it shows a place I used to work and my old business partner(that used to occasionally get front row box seats at Memorial Stadium) in the background.
Like with The West Wing,I don’t want to be biased by the “oh-I’ve been to that place” rush.

I’d say it a toss-up,but Breaking Bad could be one of the best shows ever depending on how it concludes.
With only 8 episodes left I think they are doing it right and not stretching it out.

                    • Grey

You used to work in the Barksdale projects?! I watched The Wire three times too… Just got done, because Cougs had never seen it, so I watched it again… Wasn’t like she had to twist my arm… I’ve heard everyone say The Wire is better, but I look forward to seeing for myself…

Yeah, I looked at him for tonight, but passed on most teams…

  13. Steve says:
    (link)

I got sick of all the Bryce Harper hype quite quickly, but you’ve got to say that hitting 20 dingers in the majors while you’re still a teenager is a pretty impressive achievement.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Yeah, totally… Was saying that the other day… If it wasn’t for Trout, people would be going crazy for him… Weird how that flip-flopped… He might actually be the underrated one next year…

A’s and O’s just refuse to go away.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

A’s are actually interesting for the playoffs b/c they might have the pitching… I don’t understand the O’s… As of yesterday, they gave up more runs on the year than they scored… I don’t think any teams with a .500 record can say that…

      • Hondo says:
        (link)

@Grey, Looks like they read Razzball in the clubhouse. They’ve got 6 dingers and I’ve got Miguel Gonzalez. He only had 1 k but I’m looking at my 6th W and no L’s in a 10×10.

        • Grey

          Grey says:

          Nice!

      • Steve says:
        (link)

@Grey, And the A’s just set an AL single-season strikeout record (it says here).

With the splurge on Cespedes it’s not really a Moneyball team, but you have to give Beane some props for seeing something in the guys he’s assembled for this year.

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Yeah, the M’s (and Padres and other teams in pitchers’ parks) should take notice of what he does… Hitting’s nice, but if you can win 3-2 games, you’re in good shape…

  16. letsgobravos says:
    (link)

Decided to play with fire and go against the SON by starting Cobb. Held my breath for 5 innings, but hes out of the game with a solid line. 3 hits, 3 walks, 5ks and he’s in line for the W with a 3-1 lead. Although Farnsy it looks like Farnsy may blow it for him.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

@Grey, Yeah, pissed I missed out on Maholm though. My opponent isn’t making any moves so I decided to wait till after the games last night to decide who to use my moves on. Dude in the 3rd place game snatched Maholm before I could so that blows.

Grey, went against your advice and decided to keep Aybar after he homered last night. I dumped Morneau in favor of EverCab instead for one of my util spots. Aybar’s been hot and Morneau had been pretty cold for the last week. In a rare instance of me being right, Aybar has come through with a slam and legs tonight.

    thinking Wood (@Ari, Hou)

    or

    Zito (Ari, @LAD)

Can make up ground with wins, K, K/9

Loved listening to part 1 as bad as it was ;) (i.e. Jones going so early)

I thought Verlander, Posey, Price, strasburg, beltre, encarnacion should be drafted a bit earlier. As much as i dont love drafting SP’s so early either, look at their value that they offer (at least this bunch + kersahw & verlander).

  34. Dan says:

    Grey,
I dont think they used a website – it sounds like they used different player raters in front of the three of them (i.e. ESPN). A good site for initial 2013 rankings is fantasyrundown which steers you to different sites (ESPN, Faketeams, etc.).

I have no relationship to these, but i just came across Razzball & Fantasyrudown and thoroughly appreciate them both already looking to 2013.
