Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

The news of Longoria’s injury broke (key word) just before we recorded this thing so you have to excuse our voices with the long faces.  We own Longoria everywhere.  (Rudy even owns him in the RCL, which brings me a very, very small ounce of joy.  And now Tom Milone doesn’t seem half as bad of a start against the Rays.  Rays, why do you scorn me?!  I’m so delirious with sadness I don’t even know why I’m in this parenthetical.) On top of Longoria’s hamstring crushing injury, we also talk at length about Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and other things that were scripted years ago that were brought to you via time machine.  Anyway, here’s the Razzball Podcast, now with extra tears:

“Gamel (knee) will fly to Milwaukee to be examined by Dr. William Raasch, Brewers Director of Media Relations Mike Vassallo reports.”

First – Not sure I would ever visit a Dr. Raasch……unless I have VD.

Second – Is a replacement ownable at this point in an NL Only league?
Ishikawa over my current Jesus Guzman to occupy a 1B/3B slot?

Is there an award for the least interesting roster question?

So Nieuwenhuis was not in the starting lineup but now he is hitting for Duda (still sick?). I fully expect him to hit 2 HRs and 2 SBs as he sits on my bench and Torres goes 0-4. Damn you ESPN!!!

Anyone watching this to confirm who is actually in the Mets OF?

Got a counter offer on a trade I asked you about this morning. New offer is:

    I give: Cassilla and Grienke
I get: Victorino, Davis and Peavy

Seems fair and I think I come out ahead, but I love Grienke. What do you think? I’d be left with Gio, Anibal, Morrow, cahill and Drabek. Victorino and davis replace Campana and Lind in my lineup.

    • Baron Von Vulturewins

      Baron Von Vulturewins says:

@schlitzy, Two cents: Don’t like this trade. Greinke is by far the best player here. Plus, Peavy could be arm-dead by this time next week. So you’re giving up a dollar and a dime to get back three quarters.

I’d try to trade Greinke instead for some equivalent OF, like maybe McCutchen.

    Hey Grey,

Would you trade YoGa for Phillips in a league where Espinosa is your 2b and Scutaro is the best 2b available? My other pitchers are Haren, Luebke, Cahill, Milone, Parker, Drabek, and Worley. 1500 IP limit. I’m leaning no, but I suppose it is fair. Thanks!

I look forward to hearing the actual sounds of your wet, wet tears. I assume they are Longoria related.

In the meantime: How do you value Ortiz? On the one hand, he’s like the 4th ranked player on Yahoo! On the other, he’s clogging up my Util spot something fierce, which is actually super inconvenient. (Makes it very hard to play the hot hand w/out benching, you know, Stanton or Pujols or someone.)

But what kind of rough round value would you seek in return for Ortiz? He went in Round 10. I’m thinking 4-5? Like who would be some comp OFs you’d want in return for him?

    • Grey

    • Chunk says:
      (link)

@Horse, I did this exact trade last year where Lee was 4-4 and struggling to get started, while Phillips had been off to a tear. Then phillips went cold and Lee started throwing shutouts like a boss. Oh, and I also replaced Phillips with Jelly Johnson.

      Weird.

Couple trade questions, looking for anyone’s input: got offered Garza for J-Zimm in a keeper league. I’m middle of the pack in K’s and Zimm isn’t getting ANY run support. Gotta accept, right?

Also, trying to boost my OF. Would you offer Pence, Ackley, and Aramis for Cutch, Moose, and Parker? My OF looks like Pence, JD Martinez, and Campana while Hamilton sits and his 2B is Espinosa. I also have Altuve and Jemile.

    Thanks, as always!

      @Poo Holes,

suppose a lot depends on how many keepers and whether or not
you’re in contention to win this year .

if it was a dynasty league (keep all) , you couldn’t pry zimmerman
from my fingers , and ,
am jumping all over the cutch , moose side .

      • Poo Holes says:
        (link)

@chata, I think we keep 25-30 players and I just acquired Zimmermann a couple weeks ago. Would Hellickson for Garza be a good counter?

      (link)

      @DasPeck, Who would you drop?

    • DasPeck says:
      (link)

      @Chunk,

That’s a tough question, especially given the pitching. I love what I’ve been working with lately, (except Wainwright). I would need to move some name recognition out first Wainwright and Reyes. I think I could part with Rasmus or Ross. I’d be light on OF so if I could get someone decent for Reyes/Wainwright that would be the goal.

Otherwise I’d be looking at (immediately)

      Ramos
      Teixeira
      Aviles
      Sandoval
      Reyes
      Castro
      Hosmer
      …..
      Cespedes
      Kendrick
      Rasmus
      Ross
      Parra
      Votto!

Pitching is where the question would be…
I’d have to settle on probably 7 of Halladay, Zimmermann, Bumgarner, Gio, Garcia, Cahill, Morrow, Parker, Milone, Wainwright… Obviously Wainwright’s going, but I love those young A’s boys.

    (link)

Ok, so I’m thinking of losing a couple closers for some hot/sexy names that are currently infiltrating some lineups. I’ve got Hanrahan, Marshall, Marmol, Balfour, Thornton. I’ve also got BPhillips who ain’t doin’ a damn thing – but I’m not dropping him.

1st: Marmol has provided me absolutely nothing. I’ve attempted to trade him to the entire league. All responded with an emphatic “no.” One guy who has two closers, even said he’d prefer he had no closers if Marmol was one of them. So can I drop him for Drabek? Yesterday you told me to drop the Scherz for him, but I want to give that blue/brown eyed guy a little longer rope to hang himself with.

2nd: Balfour has done nothing but completely fuck (pardon my potty mouth) up my ratios. He has also completely sucked the well that was his trade value dry. Not to mention the fact that he may lose his job in the next 3 minutes. Would you drop him for that pretty girl named Kelly Jo? I could sub him in until Phillips remembers that you’re supposed to hit that little white ball with that wooden stick.

I’m thinking that at least Drabek and Kelly Jo might provide positive counting stats towards my team, instead of the wasteland that Marmol and Balfour have created of my ratios.

    Thanks for listening.

And I’m probably going to do these moves based on principal, just would like to know if I’m completely insane or just doing what it takes to win.

at the other end of the dug-out .
even declined a couple of minor trade offers for him .

eventually , had to out-right drop him , because the place smelled
like a litter box , and i felt his mere presence (essence ?) was adversely
      affecting my other players .

Trade Lind for J. Benoit in a holds league? Dude just lost Youk and leads in holds. He also has K-Rob and Downs, but doubt he’d do it for either of them.

My offense is killing it right now, top-3 in every offense cat. I have Swiggy and Larouche as my CI. I’ve also shopped Lomo all around the league, to the point someone posted that they’re looking for “serious offers only, which means no Logan Morrison.” And: peeewwwwwwww… [arm-motion designating airline crashing]… down goes his trade value. So I’m rolling w Lomo in my Util, while sitting here with Lind. Meanwhile, my pitching is strugs, and I need some relief help. (I have a bunch of good SP: Madbum, Latos, JZimm, DHolland, Worley, LLynn) You like the above deal?

I could easily part with Kendrick, Berkman, Rollins, Rasmus, Reimold, Chris Davis, Ike Davis, Luke Scott, Quentin… or a pitcher like Cahill or Lilly… or a reliever from Putz, Marshall, Casilla, HanKRod…

    • Jon says:

Got it on the inside track that they’re going to stick LaHair in LaOutfield and play Rizzo. So yes, I am dropping Helton and stashing Rizzo and riding the hot mess train that is Mark Reynolds.

    Was offered Lawrie for Upton.

      @Public Enemy #1,

finding decent leagues is sometimes easier said than done .

i think the best bet is to start/join a keeper league .

fantasy baseball is an enjoyable experience .

        (link)

@royce!, haha, no, not the source. I’ve been hearing it for days on Cubs broadcasts (I’m a Cubs fan). They mention him every now and then. There’s been rumblings that they want him up because there’s no sense in keeping him down anymore. He’s the future. This team is 3-5 years from competing. If LaHair hadn’t been mashing, Rizzo woulda been up with Harper and Trout.

      • royce! says:
        (link)

@royce!, Huh, now that I actually read the article, I’m thinking I may have jumped the gun by picking him up. Though I’d probably be better off starting him over some of the schmoes I have on that team…

        • Wilsonian says:
          (link)

@royce!, yeah, I don’t think it’s in the next week, or even May. But I can see sometime in June as a realistic point in time. And you never know what the hell these guys are talking about. You know Sveum won’t tell the true story, because that would mean less PT for the guys on the current roster, or someone has to go down. If they’re already taking about it internally and on Cubs broadcasts, you know it’ll be in the battle of Sooner vs. Later.

I just figured it was time to snag him in a deep league where I’ve been dealing with Reynolds at 1st. Plus it’s a keeper, so he could be the future of my team, too.

        • AL KOHOLIC says:
          (link)

@royce!, thanks for the info,it would only make sense, they stink this year anyway

  84. Junior Ortiz says:

Is trading Huston Street from a “bullpen” that includes Hank-Rod, Downs, Frank-Franc and Casilla an unforced error if I’d be getting back a package of like, two starters or a starter and Asdrubal Cabrera or Alex Avila or some shizz? I feel like I’d just be falling into the “do a deal to do a deal” zone.

    • chata says:
      (link)

      @Junior Ortiz,

i know another guy that’s telling people that
huston street might end up playing for the sawx ,

      • Junior Ortiz says:
        (link)

@chata, “Interesting” (said in Lou Brown voice.)

But even with more opportunities, won’t he still be kind of an injury risk? My league seems mostly set w/ closers because 1 in 12 is punting them (in H2H, but whatever), so this is probably the only way I can do a deal. Or I could keep him.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@Junior Ortiz, Not really sure what you’re asking… Maybe I’m having a brain fart.

      • Junior Ortiz says:
        (link)

@Grey, No, I was being vague. (Not on purpose!)

I want to know if it’s worthwhile to pursue the other side of the “two OK players for one good one” trade. I usually like to be the guy getting the one good player, but for this one it looks as if I’m keeping Street or taking a pair of OK starters (Milone, Romero, Gio Gonz) or an OK starter and an OK hitter (Asdrubs, maybe? But I have Jose Reyes).

    Sweet week pitching so far.

    Minor – 6ER
    Milone – 7ER
    Shields – 4ER
    Halladay – 6ER

Add it all up and you get a 10+ ERA and 2+ WHIP

    sweet week

  91. Eddy says:
    (link)

    Grey,

Thinking of flipping Harper for JJ in a re-draft league. 12-team H2H OBP.

I can’t say I’m in dire need of pitching (MadBum, Anibal, Niese, Sale, Price, D.Hudson), but my OF is absolutely stacked and I always lose musical chairs.

I have Adam Jones, Holliday, Cruz, Victorino and Pence.

I want to cash in on Harper (especially after his 2-2 day) while it’s still unclear what the future holds for him.

JJ has a sub 2.50 FIP and a .400+ BABIP. Should I pursue it?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Sounds like a solid trade…

      • Eddy says:
        (link)

@Grey, Manager is scared of Harper’s future playing time.

Would you do Niese and Harper for JJ?

      • Eddy says:
        (link)

@Grey, OK, not happening with that manager.

Going to target the dude who lost B.J Upton.

        Wandy, Morrow, Scherzer correct ranking?

        • Grey

    • Wilsonian says:
      (link)

      @Eddy, holy shit…seriously?!?

So in this week, I’ve lost Longoria, JUp, and Luebke?

I’m not usually Debbie Downer here, but fuck…

      • Eddy says:
        (link)

        @Wilsonian, Yeah, sorry :/

I went through my DL run a couple of weeks ago. Feels like, Ells, D.Hudson, Dempster, Zimmerman and Gardner all hit the DL within minutes of each other. Left me reeling.

        • Wilsonian says:
          (link)

@Eddy, yeah, I managed the Longo injury since I have EE and C.Davis, too. But I have no one to fill in for BJ and no one for Luebke (plus I’m out of DL space). And my pitching (Doc and Balfour) has left me with an 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP so far this week.

      • Prezii says:

      • Rodger-Dodger says:
        (link)

@Mr Baseball, … Playas in auction leagues that failed to draft any closers this year … that’s who. SAGNOF my friend. Today I’m rolling Matt Capps (trade), H-Rod (waiver), Aceves (idiot dropped last week), and now hopefully the closer for Oakland too. –Nothing too fancy, but getting the job done, in a very competitive league. You don’t have any long-shots or mediocre guys you can drop? High risk, high reward… that’s how you win this game… except for most all the times you actually lose. :(

        • Rodger-Dodger says:
          (link)

@Rodger-Dodger, PS: I did have to drop Bud Norris… but I’m rollin’ deep in SPs… and I preferred to keep Smyly and Humber as they have a bit higher upside IMO. Besides that, I picked him from waivers myself a few weeks ago… so I probably could double-dip if I felt inclined to pick him up again… after the situation cools-down in Oak.

  117. Vince says:
    (link)

Grey, in which order would you pick these FA SPs : Drabek, Parker, Smyly, Floyd, Capuano, Burnett, Minor, Hammell ?

It’s a 12 team, H2H, 5×5, league without MI or CI, so I’d be dropping Mark Reynolds for one of the pitchers (picked up Chris Davis to fill my 3B spot and already have Carlos Pena to fill my Util spot).

FWIW my pitching staff is Bumgarner, Gio, J-Zim, Anibal, Marcum, Latos, Cahill, with Perez, Myers, Broxton and Rodney as my closers. Would you drop Broxton (or another closer) for another one of the FA SPs listed above ?

    Thanks!

    (link)

You’d responded previously about our NL only 10-team roto league, 32-man rosters, facing prospect of further diminished FA pool when Houston leaves next year. Your advice: drop some positions such as OF, 2nd C, etc. But now we’re tinkering with hybrid league idea. Set up mixed league but only allow teams to roster NL players plus 3-4 designated Al teams (Houston plus) to create bigger FA pool, more competitive overall talent. What do you think?

I think it’s time for me to cut Josh Johnson. I’m in a 10 team mixed and their are plenty of potential on the wire. I’m just sick of the wheels falling off, I mean 6 ER at Petco? Seriously? Am I crazy for feeling this way? I’m sure I’m not the only one. Sorry for the rant, just had to get it out. Thanks
