(Rudy even owns him in the RCL, which brings me a very, very small ounce of joy. And now Tom Milone doesn’t seem half as bad of a start against the Rays. Rays, why do you scorn me?! I’m so delirious with sadness I don’t even know why I’m in this parenthetical.) On top of Longoria’s hamstring crushing injury, we also talk at length about Bryce Harper, Mike Trout and other things that were scripted years ago that were brought to you via time machine. Ok, so I’m thinking of losing a couple closers for some hot/sexy names that are currently infiltrating some lineups. I’ve got Hanrahan, Marshall, Marmol, Balfour, Thornton. I’ve also got BPhillips who ain’t doin’ a damn thing – but I’m not dropping him.
1st: Marmol has provided me absolutely nothing. I’ve attempted to trade him to the entire league. All responded with an emphatic “no.” One guy who has two closers, even said he’d prefer he had no closers if Marmol was one of them. So can I drop him for Drabek? Yesterday you told me to drop the Scherz for him, but I want to give that blue/brown eyed guy a little longer rope to hang himself with.
2nd: Balfour has done nothing but completely fuck (pardon my potty mouth) up my ratios. He has also completely sucked the well that was his trade value dry. Not to mention the fact that he may lose his job in the next 3 minutes. Would you drop him for that pretty girl named Kelly Jo? I could sub him in until Phillips remembers that you’re supposed to hit that little white ball with that wooden stick.
I’m thinking that at least Drabek and Kelly Jo might provide positive counting stats towards my team, instead of the wasteland that Marmol and Balfour have created of my ratios.

Told ya it was almost time to pick up Rizzo (no he hasn’t been called up yet). I had a feeling they were working on a way to play LaHair and him. Got it on the inside track that they’re going to stick LaHair in LaOutfield and play Rizzo. So yes, I am dropping Helton and stashing Rizzo and riding the hot mess train that is Mark Reynolds.

My OF is Kemp, J Upton, Markakis, Swisher, Presley, and Rios (We start 4 OF and a U so one of these guys is always on the bench).
Was offered Lawrie for Upton.
He also has Wright and my RP is a weak spot.
Was thinking of countering for Lawrie and Jansen or for Wright. Or should I just go for Lawrie?

i think the best bet is to start/join a keeper league .
it might take a couple of years to ferret out those that you’re not
compatible with , but when the dust finally settles ,

@royce!, haha, no, not the source. I’ve been hearing it for days on Cubs broadcasts (I’m a Cubs fan). They mention him every now and then. There’s been rumblings that they want him up because there’s no sense in keeping him down anymore. He’s the future. This team is 3-5 years from competing. If LaHair hadn’t been mashing, Rizzo woulda been up with Harper and Trout.

@royce!, yeah, I don’t think it’s in the next week, or even May. But I can see sometime in June as a realistic point in time. And you never know what the hell these guys are talking about. You know Sveum won’t tell the true story, because that would mean less PT for the guys on the current roster, or someone has to go down. If they’re already taking about it internally and on Cubs broadcasts, you know it’ll be in the battle of Sooner vs. Later.
I just figured it was time to snag him in a deep league where I’ve been dealing with Reynolds at 1st. Plus it’s a keeper, so he could be the future of my team, too.

Is trading Huston Street from a “bullpen” that includes Hank-Rod, Downs, Frank-Franc and Casilla an unforced error if I’d be getting back a package of like, two starters or a starter and Asdrubal Cabrera or Alex Avila or some shizz? I want to know if it’s worthwhile to pursue the other side of the “two OK players for one good one” trade. I usually like to be the guy getting the one good player, but for this one it looks as if I’m keeping Street or taking a pair of OK starters (Milone, Romero, Gio Gonz) or an OK starter and an OK hitter (Asdrubs, maybe? But I have Jose Reyes).

I can’t say I’m in dire need of pitching (MadBum, Anibal, Niese, Sale, Price, D.Hudson), but my OF is absolutely stacked and I always lose musical chairs.
I have Adam Jones, Holliday, Cruz, Victorino and Pence.
I want to cash in on Harper (especially after his 2-2 day) while it’s still unclear what the future holds for him.
JJ has a sub 2.50 FIP and a .400+ BABIP. Should I pursue it?

I went through my DL run a couple of weeks ago. Feels like, Ells, D.Hudson, Dempster, Zimmerman and Gardner all hit the DL within minutes of each other. Left me reeling.
@Eddy, yeah, I managed the Longo injury since I have EE and C.Davis, too. But I have no one to fill in for BJ and no one for Luebke (plus I’m out of DL space). And my pitching (Doc and Balfour) has left me with an 8.49 ERA and 1.71 WHIP so far this week.

Today I’m rolling Matt Capps (trade), H-Rod (waiver), Aceves (idiot dropped last week), and now hopefully the closer for Oakland too. –Nothing too fancy, but getting the job done, in a very competitive league. You don’t have any long-shots or mediocre guys you can drop? High risk, high reward… that’s how you win this game… except for most all the times you actually lose.
@Rodger-Dodger, PS: I did have to drop Bud Norris… but I’m rollin’ deep in SPs… and I preferred to keep Smyly and Humber as they have a bit higher upside IMO. Besides that, I picked him from waivers myself a few weeks ago… so I probably could double-dip if I felt inclined to pick him up again… after the situation cools-down in Oak.

It’s a 12 team, H2H, 5×5, league without MI or CI, so I’d be dropping Mark Reynolds for one of the pitchers (picked up Chris Davis to fill my 3B spot and already have Carlos Pena to fill my Util spot).
FWIW my pitching staff is Bumgarner, Gio, J-Zim, Anibal, Marcum, Latos, Cahill, with Perez, Myers, Broxton and Rodney as my closers. Would you drop Broxton (or another closer) for another one of the FA SPs listed above ?

You’d responded previously about our NL only 10-team roto league, 32-man rosters, facing prospect of further diminished FA pool when Houston leaves next year. Your advice: drop some positions such as OF, 2nd C, etc. But now we’re tinkering with hybrid league idea. Set up mixed league but only allow teams to roster NL players plus 3-4 designated Al teams (Houston plus) to create bigger FA pool, more competitive overall talent. What do you think?
I think it’s time for me to cut Josh Johnson. I’m in a 10 team mixed and their are plenty of potential on the wire. I’m just sick of the wheels falling off, I mean 6 ER at Petco? Seriously?
