Just wanted to say THANKS for writing up a Bonds article without once mentioning steroids or cheating or anything deflammatory against him. God knows how long it's been since I've seen that. He might be a prick, and used substances that more than half of these guys probably used, but good lord has he had one hell of a career.

@Lou: 1) Van Gogh couldn't move a starry night when he was alive, but Pauly Shore's a millionaire.

2) I think when you're done listing inductees for positions. You should do a best of decades that fantasy wasn't played. (I am really trying to shove the robust Reggie into a square hole.)

1) Gotta love how each post BUT the FBHOF gets, like, 1200 comments :)

2) All the late 90's stars get jipped (just like you said). Well jipped is too strong a word. We all sat back and said WOW when it happened, but in context, so many were doing the same thing.

Take Gonzalez, he is 1 season away from induction. If his peak season were truly elite, he's likely in. If his 5th best season is a bit better, he's in. His best year was 1998. He batted .318 with 110 R, 45 HR, 157 RBI, 2 SB. Incredible right! Wrong :(. That was the year that a) Sosa went nuts, b) A-Rod went 40-40, c) Belle was a better version than Gonzalez, d) McGwire hit 70, e) Griffey hit 56, drove in 147, AND stole 20 bases, etc, etc. It just isn't HOF impressive when taken in context of what everyone else was doing.

Lofton had super seasons, no doubt. But his 4th best season had just 7 HR and 42 RBI. His 5th best 5 HR, 42 RBI, and a .285 AVG. We'll need a a special cyber wing outside the FBHOF for this unique players that were so good in 1 category. Boggs, some andro 1st basemen who we don't know if he's in (hint hint), etc. Lofton deserves mention in someway - gotta love his 1994.

I loved Winfield too - rumblin round the bases with those huge strides. Anyway, Winfield is a better baseball player than Dawson, and a better fantasy baseball draftee as well. But too much of his career was in the 70's, and earlier that dawson I might add. I will do something about this by the way.

Gotta admit I'm surprised that Juan-Gone and Lofton didn't do better.

I guess Juan-Gone just played in an inflated offensive period but he was in the top 10 in the AL three times for BA, 7 times for HR, and 9 times for RBI.

Lofton had some great SB (5 time league leader, 50+ 6 times) years with strong Runs, AVG, and decent HRs. But once the SBs went down to 30, looks like he lost a lot of value.

But it hurts more that one of my fave players growing up - Dave Winfield - didn't make it. He definitely was more about longevity than peak seasons. Interesting how much Andre Dawson beats him by yet one is the HOF and the other isn't....
