@Paulie Allnuts, True, he took Jose 23rd overall. Of course, then he took Adam Dunn at #26. Maybe Bautista would have been there at #26, and he could have had Jose Reyes at #23.

No doubt, the ECFBL has great players who work at it. I fully expect your league to be one of the top leagues again. Hopefully, other leagues will try to best the ECFBL.

@chata, It also should be noted that there have been a lot of RPs picked up, dropped, and picked up again as the news changes as to who will be closing, running up the transaction count in some leagues.

@Simply Fred, And nothing stirs up enthusiasm like a bit of trash-talking! But notice that none of us builds up himself, but the league as an entity. The only problem with playing in the ECFBL is burnout towards the end of the season. It does take a toll.

@chata, the thing is, 3 out of the top four finishers were at or near the top in transactions, so they weren’t making moves just because they are ADD, although some of us very well might have the creds for that DX:) Streaming low level players pays off incrementally. Fred, like Grey, picked up a dinger on opening day with his pick-up of Smoak. Moves like that add up over the course of the season. The small bench and one DL spot add more incentive to streaming, as well as the tendency to jettison players quickly. If the guy isn’t a stud or near stud, you just can’t afford to keep him on the bench without production for a long period of time.

@VinWins, By around mid-season, a top closer is worth as much as, say, someone of the caliber of Jay Bruce. It seems wildly out of line, but thats what happens. There is a wide selection of guys to pick up for extra steals, homers, runs scored, etc. But closers are a closed commodity, no pun intended. I had a short conversation about two years ago with Rudy, and we both agreed that closers took on too much value in the RCL, but you take it as it is. Essentially, our league plays the system as a group better then other leagues, and no one quits, or I won’t have them back the following year. Some money in the pot helps perk up the interest as well.

@VinWins, Let it also be noted that it was Fred from the ECFBL that chose Joey Bats the highest in any league. I think it was in the 2nd round? Maybe wrong. He started out with Miggy and Bats. Not a bad combo for your first two picks…

Don’t be to concerned with total transactions Chata, just focus on your team and what can ultimately help you. Being in the ECFBL was fun challenge last year and expect even more this year. I have not made a single move yet. I really like the team I got, even short on saves as I am. Sometimes you can’t bring yourself to drop Revere or JD Martinez from your bench and that can be a good thing.

trades: 4 (really two trades)
acquisitions: 52
activations: 61

8 of our 12 teams have ranks above blanks due to streaming the two games in Japan.

The ‘season’ started when the draft began.

We are already waaayyyyyy ahead on the Fun-ometer

@Chris, Yeah, closers are scooped up quickly in most of the RCL.

The RCL is actually set up to create more SP management by changing the default from 200 GS limit to 180.

Closers in our league are valued WAY higher than any other I’ve ever been a part of. It goes against everything the SAGNOF philosophy preaches, but it’s a product of the super active league environment and default ESPN system. You’re not falling into a newly appointed closer without A LOT of luck or advanced foresight.

It can certainly be exhausting at times…

It may not make conventional sense, but there’s a method to the madness. Although we’ve gone to a bit more extreme lengths this season (and with good reason), the proof is in last year’s league index. I have no doubt we’ll be at or very near the top in 2012 too.

Paulie has it exactly right. Until standard ESPN leagues use an IP cap instead of GS max, SPs will always be overvalued. And the pre-set shallow benches certainly don’t help either.

@VinWins, We have the 3:30 AM club – a number of these guys stay up to snatch players off the waiver wire when their time is up. They are truly nuts. And try to get a prospective closer – someone like AL KOHOLIC will snatch him up about five minutes after he is chosen.

@Bourne, Sorry, You may want to unleash the Crackin’ but ECFBL rules. And yes, the secret is out – Starters are overvalued across the board. But you best be able to calculate streaming, as that practice can easily backfire.

@chata, Glad you’re in the RCL this year! Only a few leagues have made trades already, but 20 transactions is not too unusual. Several leagues have been less active, though.

I think the average last season was around 30 per week, so 20 at this stage is probably higher than I would have expected.
