Reds announced that Joey Votto is able to return.  Crickets, pin dropping, echo…echo…echo… “God?  It’s me, Dusty Baker.  If I need him, is Votto ready to pitch?”  ”I’m afraid not, Dusty.  He’s not a pitcher.”  ”In the traditional sense?”  ”In every sense.”  ”How about as a reliever?”  ”No, Dusty.”  ”As a LOOGY?”  ”Fine, Dusty.”  ”Thanks!

It’s getting close, can you smell it?  The payoffs, not the playoffs, but the payoffs.  The reason you pay attention from basically the beginning of February thru September.  That’s almost as long as people stay married to professional sports athletes. So with the payoffs  and the dollar signs (or banners for you non-money league participants) being near, staying ahead of the game to secure your seed or to gain the last few points are is crucial.  So good luck this week and if your playoffs start this week double good luck.  (Please keep in mind that pitchers and match-ups change.)

Trevor Plouffe is returning from the DL and that’s big news because it’s big news.  If you would’ve jumped out of a DeLorean back in March and told me I’d actually be writing a lede for Trevor Plouffe, let alone just a lede because he’s returning from the DL, I would’ve told you there’s no way Plouffe would warrant a lede and this is the information you bring back from the future?

So my weekly piece comes on the heels of the awesomely fantastic Stream-o-nator, which was dropped by the other fellas that run this piece.   It is a great little widget for fantasy baseball and a great stocking stuffer for the kids come Festivus.  So what else happened in the week since we checked each other out, and, by check you out I mean I was in your neighbor’s tree and all I can say is I like what you have done with your furniture.  Oh… not that checking,  gotcha, we are officially on the same page now.   So the trade deadline dropped some great nuggets of fantasy usefulness, not much in my department of 2-start lads, but still some.
