With the trade deadline in the bag and closers moving, we have a lot to talk about.  Some of it refreshing like a glass of ice cold lemonade on a summer’s day.  Some of it less so like being asked to write something for Lainie Kazan, wondering who Lainie Kazan is and Googling her to find Playboy pics from the 1970′s juxtaposed with her present-day pics.

Rank Railheads have an amazing 113 points and a 5-point lead over The Fugs (Epic Beardmen Division) and panthers_freak (We’ve Got the Runs — Baseball Reasons) in the overall standings after another impressive week. The Railheads are well ahead of the pace for Games Started, but so are their nearest competitors in RCL 40, so they may hold on to the 56 points they are currently counting from the pitching categories.

Here’s one way baseball could take cues from fantasy baseball.  Yesterday, the Marlins announced that they’d be going to a closer-by-committee, which puts Steve Cishek in line for saves.  If they had a fantasy baseballer (<–my mom’s term!) running their club, things would’ve been different down in South Florida.

Brandon Morrow left yesterday’s game with an oblique injury that was considered substantial.  Sounds like he’s headed to the DL.  I’d gloat, but then he’ll return in three days and hit .400 for a month with little power.   I’d say I told you to sell Morrow, but no one likes an “I told you so.”  They’re more unlikable than that Joe fella from MasterChef.  I’m just going to say one thing, I feel really sorry for Morrow’s owners.  But I said that sarcastically.  Ooh, the reverse middle finger roll!  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Carl Crawford – About two weeks away from game action.  Vegas just set the over/under for his next setback at two weeks.

David Robertson to the DL for three weeks with a left oblique strain.  2009 was the Year of the Oblique, then there was the Middle Infieluenza Outbreak of Twenty-Ten, and 2011 was a war between General Soreness and Major Discomfort.  This year is The Closepocalypse.  If you’re a closer and gonna go to the DL, at least get your make-believe plague right.
