Anibal Sanchez threw a complete game shutout with four baserunners and 10 Ks. I told you to draft him! (Then drop him.) Shut up, Parenthetical, you know-it-all. (That’s kinda harsh.) This is exactly what I expected from Anibal (in the NL).Please, blog, may I have some more?
Brandon Morrow lost the no-hitter but pitched as well as any pitcher this year. 9 IP, 0 ER, 1 Hit, 2 Walks and 17 Ks. Though not everyone was impressed. When reached for comment after the game, Adam Lind said, “If you gave me 27 outs, I could strike out 17 times.” Did Morrow go near-no-no vs.Please, blog, may I have some more?
Jay Bruce has hit four homers in the last four days while hitting over .500 in the last week. Now has 22 homers in only 74 hits with 73 Ks to go along with 3 steals. I never thought Mark Reynolds would steal 24 bases. I didn’t think he had 15 in him. So, don’t take this comparison the wrong way, but Mark Reynolds is lucky he snatched up the Mini Donkey nickname because Jay Bruce looks like he could be headed that way next year. Bruce is still very young, and his propensity to strikeout leaves him vulnerable to big slumps, so I won’t predict a huge breakout in 2010. But he can hit 30 homers and steal 10 bases while batting .250. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Homer Bailey – 7 IP, 1 ER, 7 Ks. Now we’re getting to the point where he might actually be touted by the analcysts over at ESPN, which would mean his 2010 sleeper status could be in jeopardy. Please, blog, may I have some more?
Edinson Volquez left the game after the 1st inning. Hey, that Edinson-Josh Hamilton trade looks pretty even again, huh? Volquez was complaining of finger numbness. Was it cold? Maybe he can pitch wearing mittens. If it’s finger numbness from non-weather related reasons, it’s not a good sign. I wouldn’t be surprised if Volquez ends up back on the DL. Okay, here’s a pretty general thing that generally applies (ain’t that something?), a pitcher is suffering from anything to do with his throwing arm? You want out. Let someone else deal with the agita that comes with a pitcher dealing with arm issues. Kazmir, Ervin, Baker, etc. I’ll probably be touting you to draft them all next year. I wouldn’t go near any of them this year, unless the deal was ridiculously lopsided. Obviously, Volquez has more value than the other three schmohawks I mentioned, but be wary. Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:
Grady Sizemore – News hasn’t gotten better. If rest on the DL doesn’t heal his elbow, he’ll need surgery and will be out at least 6 weeks. I’d say you’d be lucky to get a decent September out of him, if surgery’s necessary. Please, blog, may I have some more?
What’s the ultimate slumpbuster? Some players and the Urban Dictionary would argue a fat chick. The Braves know the true answer. A weekend in Mississippi. Jeff Franceour went 7-for-13 with 2 RBIs in three minor league games before the Braves decided his mind was messed with enough and they returned him to the majors. Please, blog, may I have some more?
