@3FingersBrown: Soriano had pitched 5 of the last six nights and 4 nights in a row…Benoit had pitched 4 of the last 6 nights…Balfour and Choate had just given up a run each…Cormier, Sonnanstine and Wheeler left and all had pitched in at leat one of the previous two days…only Wheeler could be trusted but Garza had only had pitched 3 innings two days ago…I like it…had Benoit or Soriano been available Garza probably doesn’t go out there

Speaking of DeJesus, who I also have on the bench tonight. I was thinking about lefty/right splits in fantasy. Do you guys like to roster guys with extreme splits, to better maximize their numbers when they face off against their better side? It’s something I think about in deeper leagues.

Say Beltran returns and slides back into CF. Pagan moves to RF, primarily against righties, leaving Frenchy to hit against lefties, who give Pagan more trouble. While it may take away some from his counting numbers, the potential boost to Pagan’s AVG/OBP from not having to face lefties may leave him just as rosterable.

So if I have Pagan, DeJesus and Fowler (small sample, but better lifetime against lefties), I can maximize the OF slot(s) with that platoon, without hopefully getting sonavabenched too often, since they’ll be sitting against the pitchers that give them a tougher time – in theory.

It’s something I did with pretty good results in the past with guys like Hawpe, Thames and Gomes. Sometimes I find it easy to forget that it’s not the player himself that matters, but what the active slot gives you, no matter who’s in there.

Anyway, just some food for thought.

Too bad it squelched my Jaime win… With the summer setting in, it looks like the balls are taking off at Coors again.

Garza in the 9th is pretty crazy. Not even in an extra inning game. I haven’t followed the Rays that closely, so I don’t know everyone in the pen, but they didn’t have anyone they could trust to get two outs??? Very strange move.
