Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

Jake Peavy was walking off the field before the trainers even got to him.  On a scale of bad signs, that’s around a 9.  That’s on a scale of 1 to 8.  The good news is it’s not his arm.  It’s his dorsi muscle.  Peavy’s a dolphin?  Put down your noisemakers, it’s not that good of news.  To paraphrase Ludacris, “Peavy back bad, Peavy not good… Peavy back don’t do stuff that yo’ back do… (Repeat chorus 17 times.)”  Daniel Hudson, rocking a 3.47 ERA in a hitters’ park in the minors, could get the call if Peavy needs a DL stint.  You know that guy you see when you search for Tim Hudson on the waiver wire?  That’s him!  He has more than a K/IP in the minors, though his control is iffy at times.  He’s worth a pick up in AL-Only or deep mixed keeper leagues.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Aaron Harang – Headed to the DL with back spasms.  Dusty said, “If he dies, he dies,” while wrapped in a Reds flag.

Yovani Gallardo – To the DL with an oblique strain.  Won’t be back until the end of the month as YoGa tries to get stretched out.  Namaste.

Brad Penny – I faintly remember him pitching this year.  He was good, wasn’t he?  He was shut down during a simulated game, experiencing more soreness.  Can’t Dave Duncan rub his hands together and touch the pain?

Felipe Lopez – 2-for-5 with a homer as he hits near .450 in the last week.  Or “For Fiddy,” if you’re sending a care package to the G-Unit.

Ryan Franklin – 1/3 IP, 6 ER.  Ouch… Wait, what?  Oh.  Ow.

Edwin Encarnacion – 3-for-4 with a homer.  All he does is hit (when he’s first called up then disappears into oblivion).

Delmon Young – 3-for-3.  Now hitting over .400 in July after a .320 June.  Know what would be nice?  If he were batting higher than 8th.

Carl Pavano – 6 1/3 IP, 6 ER, 8 baserunners, 2 Ks.  That, sir, is no line from a man with a mustache.  Shave immediately!

Joe Mauer – 1-for-4 with his 4th homer.  His homer totals from 2005 to 2009 were:  9, 13, 7, 9, 28.  Does one number look off?  Yeah, well how come you didn’t listen when February Grey told you that?

Clayton Richard – 6 IP, 5 ER, 13 baserunners, 6 Ks.  Thursday’s afternoon post was going to be about how Clay-T Richard, along with a bunch of other SPs, were pitching over their head.  Consider this a preview.

Mat Latos – Here’s Bud Black for the last three months.  Latos won’t be limited, won’t be limited, won’t be limited, then yesterday he said he’d probably be limited.

Ryan Zimmerman – 3-for-4 with 2 homers after he took the better part of June off.  I missed your touch, Black Keys.

Jayson Nix – Hit his 4th homer in the last four games.  If you’re struggling to catch a spark at MI, I’d grab Nix and ride the heat.

Johan Santana – 9 IP, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks and a homer.  This year Johan has one homer every 30 ABs.  Jason Bay has a homer every 50 ABs.  Cust kayin’.

Jose Reyes – 2-for-4 as he returned to action.  He was running hard, not favoring any side (back?) pain.

Matt Diaz – 3-for-5.  It’s Dye-as.  Lefty killer.  Anyone who’s read this site for a long time knows that I’ve always liked Diaz as a platoon outfielder. (Play him against his strong side, sit vs. weak side.  Rinse, repeat.)

Wandy Rodriguez – 7 IP, 1 ER, 6 baserunners, 10 Ks.  For a while, it was touch and go while it looked like Brian Moehler was ghost riding the Wandwagon, but now it looks like he’s back.

Carlos Lee – Hit a homer yesterday along with Lance Berkman.  Must’ve been throwback night at The Juicebox.  Did Jeff Bagwell throw out the first pitch underhanded because of a hurt shoulder?

Jeff Niemann – 6 IP, 0 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks.  He shouldn’t be pitching this well.  If you’ve heard that before, it’s because I’ve written it before.

Kosuke Fukudome – Hit his 2nd homer in 2 games.  Here’s what I wrote yesterday, “…he gets crazy hot for a week or two at a time.”  And that’s me copying and pasting me!

Aramis Ramirez – 2-for-4, 4 RBIs and 2 homers.  Too bad anyone in their right mind has either dropped or benched him by now.

Aaron Heilman – 1 IP, 2 ER.  I’d say Kazaam!, but Kirk Gibson went into a press conference the other day fist pumping and said, “I have no idea who the closer is.  Maybe it’s Qualls, maybe it’s that lady in the front row of all the games that had me sign her breast.  These things haven’t been decided yet.”  I think Qualls gets first look, then Front Row Lady.

Alex Rodriguez – 2-for-3 with 2 homers.  On pace for 120 RBIs, less than 30 homers and like no steals.  Feels like he still hasn’t had one crazy hot streak, so he can easily bump up his numbers to 35 homers and 10 steals.  In other words, same shizz, different year.

Jose Guillen – Left the game with an injury, probably will head to the DL.  Maybe the Royals can now trade him for Mike Jacobs.

Wilson Betemit – 3-for-4 and his 4th homer in 19 games.  The Royals are playing him, as they should.  You should consider it too.

Jhoulys Chacin – 3 IP, 4 ER in middle relief as he makes room for de la Rosa, who’s due back this Friday.  In NL-Only leagues and deep keepers, I’d hold Yo-lease with his nasty K/9.

Chris Iannetta – Now has 3 homers in his last six games.  Unfortunately, those six games are separated by 11 days.  From the files of Sad, But True:  Iannetta has only one less homer than Wieters.

Seth Smith – 3-for-4 with his 12th homer.  Putting together a nice year as long as you sit him vs. lefties.  Ooh, I know!  Trade Matt Diaz to the Rockies and let him platoon with Smith.

Vicente PadillaAfter a typical start, after a 6 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 9 Ks start.

Matt Kemp – 2-for-5 with a home run and two steals.  Or as it’s more commonly known, a slam & legs.

Alex Rios – 1-for-3 with a home run.  I told you to sell him at the very end of May.  In June, 2 homers and 5 steals with a .297 average.  In July, 1 homer and 1 steal with a .176 average.  So 3 homers and 6 steals with a .280 average.  I think we can agree there’s guys with less name value giving you the same.

Madison Bumgarner – 8 IP, 0 ER, 6 baserunners, 5 Ks vs. the Brewers who have only scored three runs in the last three games.  Mad-Bum’s pitching better than I thought he would.  I’d absolutely grab him in mixed leagues, but you run the risk of getting roofied at any point.

Miguel Cabrera – Hit his 21st homer as he took a late hit off The Sauce.  Alfredo, that is.

Armando Galarraga – Sent to the minors.  I wonder if he’ll drive his Corvette.

Felix Pie – 2-for-6 in his return to the lineup.  So what’s to like about Pie?  Well, the weird guy in the overalls at The Home Depot is not the only one who’s toolsy.  Pie is a speed and power combo guy.  He’s just not quite that powerful or that, um, speedful.  In AL-Only and deep mixed leagues, I’d take a flyer.

Chris Tillman – Should replace the DL’d Millwood.  Tillman started 4 games earlier this year and gave up 14 earned runs in 15 innings with his worst start coming in San Fran.  I wouldn’t pick up Tillman with your team.

Nick Markakis – 5 HRs, 2 SBs on the year.  Evidently, he’s a hypochondriakakis and gleaned from Luke Scott and Brian Roberts that hitting HRs and stealing bases leads to injuries.

Kevin Youkilis – Left the game with ankle pain after clearing the plate with his foot.  The last Red Sox that got hurt clearing the plate was Sam Horn who pulled his abdomen partaking in a pie-eating contest.

    Time to say bu-bye to Glaus? Here’s what’s sitting on my waiver wire:

    Hitters: Ibanez, Sean-Rod, Stubbs, Branyan, Colvin, Seth Smith
    Pitchers: Kuo, Niese, MadBum

    I would use the hitter as a bench UT, or could use a pitcher for ratio or wins.

    if so is he roster-able? just picked up felix pie but don’t know if pie is better than gordon (plus gordon has 3b and should have OF eligibility soon). so final question, if gordon comes up, gordon or pie rest of the way?

  4. Top of the mornin’, Grey.

    With Freese on the DL, I’m mixing and matching at 3B in a 20-team roto league. The main three available candidates were in your write-up today: Nix, Encarnacion, and Betemit. Who do you like more to cover 3B until the break (and maybe the first few days after), until Freese is back and playing every day? Seems like a crapshoot to me.

    My main offensive needs are AVE and SB … none seem particularly adept there.

    Thanks.

    jesus, i just put in a claim on johnny damon in a 20 cat roto league. i am dominating the power cats (25 HR lead, 36 RBI lead), but could gain some ground in doubles, hits, Rs, and BB. looking for a relatively cheap trade target, i notice damon was dropped and on the wire. 20 doubles (league leader is only 26), 52 Rs (league leader 66), and 40 BBs. come on johnny, i know you can finish out the year strong.

    i seriously wasn’t trying to power up this much, and i wish votto, wright, cargo, et al. would hit a few more doubles for me, ha. i’m even 2nd in SBs and 4th in AVG, so not a bunch of md’s and mmd’s. i’ve been trying to trade power for a denard span type or a good SP (thanks to haren and beckett my staff is still recovering…thanks for the help last night carlos!), but to no avail, everyone just wants to buy low on kemp…like they wanted to buy low on wright up until the last few weeks when he got the avg over .300.

    I’m in a 12 team, H2H league were we keep 6 annually. Right now, my 3B is Youkilis… but he’ll likely lose his 3B eligibility after this year. So with an eye on next year… while still keeping an eye on this year as well (in 4th place currently only a handful out of first)… I was thinking of making a play for Ryan Zimmerman.

    In addition to Youk, I have Ryan Howard and LaRoche at 1B. My pitching is fairly deep as well consisting of Gallardo, CC, Haren, Wainwright (my top 4)… folllowed by G. Floyd, Slowy, De La Rosa, and Anibal Sanchez. We also use 2 utility spots in the league… so having a couple extra 1B isn’t a huge deal.

    Should I think about offering up Youk for Zimmerman?

    Or what about one of CC or Wainwright? Is that too much? I’ve already tried to offer Gallardo straight up.. but was turned down.

    I also have Pedroia sitting on my DL.. but don’t think he’d go for Pedroia for Zimmerman.

    @Wilsonian: i’d probably do longo for zimm/price if you want the pitching. i think wright gives more well rounded numbers and his speed is more legit. longo brings a little more pure power. of course you could be really concerned about wright’s Ks or metco, or think longo will kick into high gear for the playoff run. zimm is clearly the 3rd best long term 3B prospect though, and i think the ‘downgrade’ to zimm less than the benefit you get form price.

    @ThePoonTycoon: I would like the pitching (as I dealt Doc last week), but I’m not sure I want to give up either one of those guys. If I traded one, it would probably have to be Longo. I like Wright’s well-rounded stats just a little bit more. But I’m struggling with the thought of dealing part of my 3B monster combo. It might not even be a question, however, because it was a text from my friend on Saturday inquiring about a trade like that. He said he wasn’t sure he would do it, but it was an idea. I haven’t really talked to him about it since. But I feel like my pitching is missing something with that gaping hole that Doc left. Then again, I might just be picking at scabs here…

    Both Glaus/Panda would probably be picked up, but so will Sanchez and I likely don’t have time to make a decent deal by the time waivers open up tomorrow (nor do I have anyone else to drop because I like pitching depth over hitting depth in H2H).

  57. @TheBravesWearPrado: I dropped Heilman last night for Motte. Franklin’s probably fine, but who knows, maybe he pitches poorly in his next couple of chances, or reveals he’s got elbow pain or something. And at least Motte won’t blow up my ERA and WHIP on a daily basis like Heilman.

    @DrEasy: Ibanez

    @AL KOHOLIC: Yup

    @Elbert: Gordon over Pie, but he’s not coming up.

    @Enrique: Morning… Betemit

    @Sexual Napalm: I’d want Johan.

    @Carns: Thanks!

    @Van Hammersly: Chacin

    @AW: I wouldn’t start Medlen or Garcia. Price isn’t a great start either, obviously.

    @ThePoonTycoon: I wouldn’t start either.

    @Sotophobic: It’s fair, depends on needs. I’d take Zimmerman.

    @Jangles: Great group, really enjoying them.

    @ThePoonTycoon: Ha

    @Ron Washington’s Stache: None… Sheets.

    @TJ: LeBlanc (at home), Niese (at home)…

    @Howard: Sure, grab Gorzelanny. Quentin should be fine.

    @swpayton: Ha

    @Howard: I doubt it, but maybe.

    @Baron Von Vulturewins: Yeah, I doubt it.

    @Howard: Scherzer…

    @Giant JJ: You should get something extra.

    @JImmy: Ouch

    @mr baseball: I’d wait a start.

    @AL KOHOLIC: Coin flip on matchups… Ervin

    @Wah: I’d trade Youk for Zimmerman.

    @Don Marino: Upton, it’s fair, depends on needs.

    @Mr. Rickey: Diaz over Cunningham.

    @LMack: Ha!

    @Eddie: CarGo’s average is inflated from luck.

    @Donnie Baseball: Nothing’s going on. He’s slumping like all players go through.

    @Mark Geoffriau: Thanks!

    @Neil: Qualls…

    @Wilsonian: I’d take Zimmerman and Price. Richard (at home), Wandy…

    @Oregon Nut Cups: Yeah, I doubt he plays there for 5 games though. Was worth noting though, you’re right.

    @Wah: A-Rod…

    @Andrew: Bumgarner… Stanton…

    @3FingersBrown: Hehe

    @TheBravesWearPrado: Ha!

    @3FingersBrown: Ha!

    @hoju: Eh

    @Mr2Bits: Yeah, he’s all right at the All-Star Game.

    @3FingersBrown: I’d just play Felipe.

    @Eddie: Lose him.

    @3FingersBrown: Thanks for the heads up!

    @Shack: Why?

    @Ceasar: It’s fair, I’d take Lilly.

    @Anonymous: Hehe

    @Spartacus: I’d hold Lester there.

    @GopherDay: Sure

  74. Goose says:

    in a 6×6 14t roto keeper, i’ve got Pedroia on the DL, and Manny and Heyward on my bench hurt… which means my UTIL is sitting empty. which blows. we count holds, so i don’t want to touch my solid bullpen of Rivera, Marmol, KRod, Clippard, Gregerson, Motte, Benoit. so i’m looking at my starters to drop one for a bat — Greinke, Verlander, Romero, Shields, Silva — would you drop any of them for a guy like Nix, Milton Bradley, Juan Rivera, or Cust? all of whom are, like, ugh. but do i roll the dice — drop a quality SP (i’m thinking Shields or Silva) so i can get stats out of my UTL for the next few days — and just hope to grab the arm back off waivers? i’m last in Ws right now too, which is also why i’m reluctant to part with pitching… ugh.

    thanks for any advice!

    Grey : What do you think of this deal in a keeper league?

    Sandoval/Garza for Pujols?

    Only problem is I have Halladay/Cano/Lester so if I keep Pujols I’d lose 2 of these guys next year where I could keep at least Garza as hes a 12th rounder in my league

  76. ThePoonTycoon says:
    (link)

    @Mr2Bits: are you in it this year? cause if you are then you shouldn’t do the deal. even if you aren’t in it this year, i’d probably hold out. SPs can drop like flies, and pujols is probably the most consistent bat over the past decade and still going strong.

  77. Terrence Mann says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Dang, Grey. You’re pretty stubborn about having it in for Rios. There’s all kinds of reasons he’s worth hanging on to. He’s batting 3rd in a lineup with Konerko and Quentin behind him. Ozzie doesn’t hesitate to let him steal when he gets on base – which has been often. His OBP is currently .352. I don’t think anyone expected him to continue his torrid start but right now he’s sitting at 14 HRs and 22 SBs. Plus, he’s going against AL Central pitching the rest of the year. That’s a huge bonus.

    You’re citing 2 HRs, 5 SBs, and a .297 average as his worst month of the season so far? I’ll take that.

    You’re not wrong often, Grey. But Rios has performed as a bona fide stud and has no reason not to continue as such.

  78. Mr2Bits says:
    (link)

    @ThePoonTycoon:

    Hey Poon. Yes Im in it and desperately need someone to fill in for retard D. Lee. I’d actually be the one giving up Panda and Garza for Pujols. I have Bautista at 3rd which isn’t great but still keeping me going.

  94. Terrence Mann says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Right. The last 30 days. Span is a player that was drafted in the top 100 (about on par with Rios). Rios is performing at Span’s level when he’s playing his worst. You’ve been selling everyone on Seth Smith the past month (and justifiably so). So, Span and the lisper’s nightmare are buys and Rios is a sell? WTF, Grey?

    It’s not like people were trying to give up top tier pitchers for Rios when he was hot. Rios do what he do. He’s a solid start day in, day out. You know the runs and RBI are there. If he gets 10 HRs and 10 SBs the second half of the season, he’s worth playing every day….and that’s probably his floor.

  95. Joe B says:

    Grey-
    I have the biggest Boesch-ner right now. This kid is unreal. I’ve had him on my team for 175ABs, and he is lights OUT! Pitchers are actually starting to pitch AROUND him. Last night he went 0 for 1, but had 4 walks. Slugging around .600 so far this season. .330+ avg. How is he not universally owned across every fantasy platform? ESPN, 61% owned, Yahoo, 70% owned. I know you’ve mentioned him, but I can tell you must not own him anywhere, because if you did, we’d be hearing much more about him…(which we should be)

    Also- Not a Tigers Fan. Sadly, a Cubs fan. Why Koyie Hill?!!?…

    Finally- WTF do I do with Granderson?!?! Can’t trade him. Can’t bench him. His .220 BA is making my Boesch-ner go soft…

    @Bandit- Latos side wins, easily, IMHO

  97. Grey

    Grey says:
    (link)

    @Terrence Mann: I’m just saying his name value and perceived value are above his actual value. If you sell Rios, you should get a lot more in a trade than you could get for Seth Smith. So trade Rios for a big bat or big SP then grab Smith off waivers. I imagine a month ago you could’ve sold Rios for Smith and another nice piece.

  98. Grey

    @Grey: thanks man. Thinking about making the trade offer so I can attempt to snag Lester. I’m a big fan of his, and I have this sneaky feeling that Dream Weaver will fall off considerably in the 2nd half.

  100. Terrence Mann says:
    (link)

    @Grey: Fair enough. Personally, I’m in a spot where I need both his speed and power. Having infielders like McGehee and Zimmerman will do that to you.

    Keep up the good work. I love debating you even though it feels like Lindsay Lohan going to court. No matter what I say, I’m screwed!

  101. @Terrence Mann: Not sure I agree with you on Rios, but I have to admit “The Lisper’s Nightmare” would be an awesome nickname.

    I met Seth Smith the winter after the Rockies lost in the World Series. I was polite and just chatted for a few seconds, but part of my brain was pushing me to say, “Soooo…..that Papelbon’s got some nasty stuff, huh?”

  109. bonick says:

    @Terrence Mann: Amen, brother. I lucked out drafting Rios way late, and since no one will give me anything even halfway decent in return, I figured it can’t be that bad to ride him home. I mean, well, not ride him exactly, but you know what I mean.

    I be a Sox fan, though, so maybe I take extra special offense when Grey keeps telling everyone that Rios is sell-high material. But I LIKE Rios! – end whine -

  111. Fletch says:

    @XnadyMen: @3FingersBrown: I used to write for Skyscraper Magazine that was sold in indie record shops and Barnes & Noble. I’ve been a collector of music for almost 30 years (about 18,000 pieces = all kinds). The Black Keys (as well as Devo and LeBron) are from my backyard of Akron, Oh. I used to see the Black Keys years ago for $5 at a local club here in Akron…and LeBron for that matter = $3 high school basketball games. The drummer for the Black Keys has an uncle, Ralph Carney, that used to play horn for Tom Waits.

  112. @yanks4life: Depends on cost. I think Craw will be a 2nd round keeper in my league next year, while Stras would cost an 8. At those prices, I’d probably take Baby Jesus.

    Also depends on how many total keepers and how many arms you’re keeping. I get leery keeping pitchers due to higher risk of injury – although I did keep Waino for a 10.

    Just working on a piece about Panda and digging through his numbers… very surprised to see his contact rate has actually increased since last year and his swinging strikes are down.

    So he’s making contact. Just lousy contact. I would think that would improve in the 2nd half. With better contact, SLG% will increase and Giants fans and his fantasy owners alike can once again wear panda hats.

  113. @Fletch: Nice. “Are We Not Men” was one of the first records I ever bought. Love me some Devo.

    If you’re interested, send me an email, and I’ll send you links to some of the music sites I write on – with p2p links for the muzak.

    Hey Grey and anyone else willing to toss in 2 cents: would you veto a Votto for Berkman and Delmon Young trade? I can theoretically see someone betting hard on the upside of Berkman and Young and hard against Votto’s upside… but come on, Berkman’s been putrid this year.

    I liked Gallagher coming up with the Cubs. Don’t think he’ll be fantasy relevant outside of the deepest leagues. If you are in that deep though, could be worth a match-up flier if/when he gets a start. He’s still only 24.

    Marlon Byrd still has a great BA, but has not been producing much (along with the Cubs) in quite a while. Looking at ESPN’s Drop/Pickup list you see his name on the most dropped side. With him on my roster taking up space and not producing much for a while, is it worth keeping him now or is it sane to look for someone else that is producing now to replace him? I have a need at 1B, Gaby Sanchez is available and putting up numbers. Hold him, or let him bat for percentage and throw in the occasional HR?

    @Grey:

    About a week ago you indicated your preference for the Utley side on the trade (and specifics surrounding) proposed below. Would you be swayed to the other side if Carpenter were added to the non-Utley side and Cain were part of the Utley block?

    Earlier details and background color:

    Prado, Hanson, CarGo, for Utley, Strasburg, Werth

    Traditional 4×4 (No R’s or K’s) keeper league. Hanson could be retained for one more year and Strasburg for two. Prado and CarGo would probably also be retained for two years as their auction prices were relatively low…Werth and Utley would be the remainder-of-this-year only (and we know how much Utley will be contributing during that time).

    To me it is feeling like whether getting Strasburg for two more years is worth getting Hanson for one more (assuming he pitches better next year) and having rights to get CarGo and Prado for two more years on the cheap.

    Thoughts?

    @Howie: Prado’s having a career year, I wouldn’t go out of my way for him next year. Strasburg is worth a lot for two years. Hanson’s not pitching well and he was abused last year. CarGo and Werth are equal. Carp over Cain. So it’s fair, but I’d take Werth and Strasburg. Trade really doesn’t make much sense to just lose Utley for Prado. Trade a smaller piece for a 2nd baseman if that’s your angle.

    @ThE sHiT: Yeah, I thought it was my neighbors.

    @3FingersBrown: RZE’s above Hunter.

  178. Howie says:

    @Grey: Thanks for the dissection… I think I will hang with the Strasburg side. I bought Lincecum cheaply two years ago and have been riding him since…he goes into the community auction pool next year so Strasburg will replace him as my “cheap ace” for the next two. I wasn’t sure if having accessibility to CarGo cheaply for two years was viewed as that big of a deal…but I guess not in light of Strasburg’s upside and the fact there are probably more “CarGoes” than there are Strasburgs…

  179. Steve says:

    @AL KOHOLIC: 6 donks for Hippo in the RCL today. Sheesh.

    I’ve been punting holds all year in a 14 team h2h. Now I think I could drop two SP and grab a couple MR in order to compete. I’d be dropping Kennedy and Gorz. I could pick up Venters, Storen, Benoit, Betancourt, Hanrahan, Chris Perez, or Jepsen.

    My pitching would look like:

    SP- Liriano
    SP- Lilly
    RP- Broxton
    RP- Rauch
    RP- Capps
    RP- (SOME MR)
    P- Nolasco
    P-Hammel
    P-Arroyo
    BN- (SOME MR)
    DL- Beckett

    So I’m thinking I should grab Benoit (20/1 k/bb w/ 4 holds over the last month) and either Perez or Storen. Should I do this??? Kennedy seems kaput, and Gorz will probably just sit on someone’s bench.

    Too bad it squelched my Jaime win… With the summer setting in, it looks like the balls are taking off at Coors again.

    Garza in the 9th is pretty crazy. Not even in an extra inning game. I haven’t followed the Rays that closely, so I don’t know everyone in the pen, but they didn’t have anyone they could trust to get two outs??? Very strange move.

    @Grey: Thoughts on starting Baker tomorrow?

  221. @Steve: Oofa! See what happens when you F with DeJesus?

    Speaking of DeJesus, who I also have on the bench tonight. I was thinking about lefty/right splits in fantasy. Do you guys like to roster guys with extreme splits, to better maximize their numbers when they face off against their better side? It’s something I think about in deeper leagues.

    Say Beltran returns and slides back into CF. Pagan moves to RF, primarily against righties, leaving Frenchy to hit against lefties, who give Pagan more trouble. While it may take away some from his counting numbers, the potential boost to Pagan’s AVG/OBP from not having to face lefties may leave him just as rosterable.

    So if I have Pagan, DeJesus and Fowler (small sample, but better lifetime against lefties), I can maximize the OF slot(s) with that platoon, without hopefully getting sonavabenched too often, since they’ll be sitting against the pitchers that give them a tougher time – in theory.

    It’s something I did with pretty good results in the past with guys like Hawpe, Thames and Gomes. Sometimes I find it easy to forget that it’s not the player himself that matters, but what the active slot gives you, no matter who’s in there.

    Anyway, just some food for thought.

  229. @DrEasy: Love that stuff. When I have more time, I’m going to have to go through your site with a fine tooth comb and find myself a lot of the great music.
