Anyhoo quick keeper question G – deciding betwen Billingsly and James Shields for my last keeper (other 2 are Braun and BJ UP). While Shields is ranked a spot hgher I’ve read you manlove post re: Billingsly and tend to agree. He has a chance to be top 5 while Shields does not. Leaning towards C. Billz- right move?

grey i have lidstrom on my team and with the news today that he has a strained rotatator cuff and might miss opening day i was thinking of dropping him for gregg or francisco…i read that gregg is the favorite to close as of right now and i know franscisco doesnt have much competition

@sean: I like that trade for you. @Baron Von Vulturewins: His performance issues led to his surgery and now he should be fine, or at least 95% his old self in two months. For any other team, I'd say he might be replaced, but the Mariners are without anyone else to step up. Unless... Somehow Mark Lowe or Tyler Walker really steps up in the first month, which seems doubtful.

@sean: Jim Leyland has shown a propensity to stick with the same dude as long as the same dude is getting a reasonable number of outs. He definitely seems like one of those old-school, "closer mentality" type guys -- i.e. values magical intangibles over actual performance. Ergo, if Lyons can manage to chalk up a few saves without torching the house down, he should keep the job, would be my guess. @Grey: Didn't Chad Cordero have major velocity-disappearance issues in Washington? Are there any reports on his velocity this spring?

@cubbies: I don’t think that Rodney poses a threat to Lyon. A healthy Zumaya is a much greater threat. The fans love the flamethrower, and he’s been wearing the “closer of the future” tag for quite some time. If he can stay healthy through the first half, I would think Zumaya takes that job in July. Still, that means Lyon has the job for the first half and there’s a big “if” in front of him losing it in the second half. Ultimately, I think the job is Lyon’s to lose with Rodney as a stop-gap option before Zumaya is ready to take the ball.

@grey: right now, I’ve got an infield of Prince, Cano, Tulo, Wright, A-Ram, F. Lopez, which puts a lot of pressure on my OF ( Beltran, Victorino, McLouth, Dunn, and Bruce) + U (Choo/Maybin) to steal bases. What can I do to improve this situation without giving up on Cano and Tulo, who I feel I got solid value on in the 12th and 14th rounds respectively…

In a small 10 H2H Team Keeper League with vacant SS and 3B slots, do the Chris Davis spring training whiffs draw him closer to the likes of Alexei Ramirez (as an eventual SS)? Either will likely need to be drafted in the 6-7th round; so it’s grab one and lose the other. 3B looks deeper, so it’s either Davis & Jeter/Peralta/Hardy (thoughts on Khalil?) OR Alexei & Zimm/Gordon/LaRoche (thoughts on Blalock?). Position scarcity and possibly overvaluing Davis’ spring swing & misses have some of us leaning the way of A-Ram. Do you agree, or are we overvaluing spring stats?
