Don't be shellfish...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterShare on Google+

The Royals called up Jake Odorizzi, which means nothing really for this year.  He will start next weekend vs. the Indians, and that could be a spot start in some fantasy leagues, but this is more for 2013.  Or, since it’s the Royals, this is Moore for 2013.  In order to be protected from a Rule 5 draft, the Royals had to call him up.  I don’t think this means we see Odorizzi in the rotation to start next year, but he’ll be in the mix for the last spot.  Knowing the Royals, they’ll find someone like Randy Wolf or Carl Pavano for that last spot.  Jeremy Guthrie’s run with the Royals this year is the worst thing that could’ve happened for Royals fans.  Now ownership can get another half-dead veteran pitcher and sell it to their fans as another reclamation projection that could yield Guthrie-like results, when we all know Guthrie’s results don’t even mean Guthrie could do that again, let alone the invariable Blanton-esque signing.  Forget it, Jake, it’s the Royals fans’ agita-town.  In Triple-A this year, Odorizzi had a 2.93 ERA and just over a 7 K-rate.  He’s not the crazy/sexy/cool-type prospect like Trevor Bauer.  He’s not going to strikeout a hitter an inning and Happy Ending your fantasy draft with a sleeper ace.  He’s more a fantasy number three to four-type arm with good control, which in the short term is actually more valuable because there won’t be huge peaks and valleys.  We’ll probably see him at the start of June in 2013 if the Mayans forget to pull the plug on all us in December.  For deep keeper leagues, I’d grab him, hoping for a 2013 line of 3.85/1.28 and 95 Ks in 120 major league innings.  Anyway, here’s what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

Brandon Morrow – 6 IP, 0 ER, 5 baserunners, 3 Ks vs. the Po’ Sawx.  The other day Bobby Valentine said this was the weakest roster in the history of the Red Sox.  Then yesterday he said no offense was meant.  Hey, just like the lineup.  Be interesting to see how low Bobby will go to get the Red Sox to fire him.  Urinating in public?  Racist comments?  Publicly questioning Larry Bird’s greatness?

Dustin Pedroia – 2-for-4, after he returned to the lineup on Saturday, following the birth of his 2nd son and the chasing of his brother out of the hospital.

Pedro Ciriaco – 1-for-3 and his third straight game with a steal.  I wonder if him and Dustin ever sit in the clubhouse with the call and answer chant, “I a Pedro…Pedro I a…”  Probably not.

Adam Dunn – 2-for-4 with his 39th homer.  Member how on Friday I said Dunn was a drop?  Well, welcome to the world of late-September baseball.  One day he’s out for ten days and the next day he’s back in the lineup hitting.  Just when you think he’s done, he’s Dunn.

Dayan Viciedo – 2-for-4, 3 RBIs with his 21st homer and .253.  He’s only going to be 24 years old for the start of next year, and he’s got me interested, but he has 23 walks to his 111 strikeouts.  His homers to walk ratio is right up Andre Dawson’s creek, leaving him more attractive than James Van Der Beek, but not quite at Joey’s level.

Joe Mauer – 2-for-3 with his 10th homer as he returned to the lineup.  That year he hit 28 homers seems like it was a lifetime ago.  Only the lifetime of a pet guinea pig, but a lifetime nevertheless.

Ryan Braun – 2-for-4 and two solo homers, his 39th and 40th.  If you lose your fantasy league to someone with Ryan Braun on their team, tell them you sent them their fantasy winnings via FedEx.

Norichika Aoki – 2-for-3 with 2 steals of third off of Chris Young.  Was hard to see what kind of lead he had off of 2nd, because the behind-home-plate cameras had an obstructed view.

Wily Peralta – 8 IP, 0 ER, 3 baserunners, 5 Ks.  As previously mentioned, Peralta had nice Ks in the minors, but a below average ERA.  He could be an interesting name for next year if he breaks camp with the club.  Could be one of those slightly out of nowhere types like Lance Lynn was in the first half of the year, though slightly less out of nowhere because I’m pointing it out now.

Ernesto Frieri – So, how was your weekend?  Guessing better than Frieri’s.  Unless Nakoula Basseley Nakoula is reading this.  His weekend might’ve been worse.  BTW, I’ve seen better production value in student short films.  Are we supposed to see the rubber band from the fake beard?  On Saturday, Fieri forked over Greinke’s game and gave the Royals an epic comeback win.  On one pitch, a two-run homer to Moobs, then three pitches later a walk-off homer to Salvador Perez.  The nurturing Sciosciapath decided to go to Jepsen for the save on Sunday.  Frieri’s still the closer, according to the Angels, but they have a lot of decent fall back options and I wouldn’t be surprised if Walden, the once future closer that lost the job after one blown save, gets a chance to save a game or two.

Anthony Rizzo – 3-for-5, 3 runs, 6 RBIs and 2 homers.  You know what I see when I see that line?  Rizzo’s 2013 draft selection going up two rounds.  If you thought Yahoo was bonkers about Dee Gordon this year, pushing him into the top 7 rounds, forget about Rizzo.

Matt Moore – 3 IP, 5 ER vs. the Yankees, which comes after a start where he only lasted into the 4th inning vs. the Orioles.  He might be going through a dead arm period, which isn’t good for pitching, but is great for doing The Bernie Dance.

Starling Marte – 3-for-6, 1 run and RBI and 2 steals, 3 steals in this weekend series while going 6-for-13, which is almost .500.  Look at the big brain on Grey, pointing out S. Marte.

Pedro Alvarez – 2-for-5, 5 RBIs and two homers, his 28th and 29th of the year.   Sadly, he has no one to do the “I a Pedro, Pedro I a” chant with.

Daniel Straily – 4 2/3 IP, 4 ER, 10 baserunners, 1 K.  I don’t want to overrate only 5 starts and less than 30 innings in the majors, but he’s looking more like the guy that scouts weren’t that crazy about than the pitcher that came out of nowhere this year to lead the minor leagues in Ks.

Stephen Drew – 2-for-4, 2 RBIs and his 2nd game in a row with a homer.  I don’t think J.D., other members of the Drew family or Stephen Drew himself are able to get excited about Stephen’s prospects, but he looks like he’s hot.

Matt Wieters – 2-for-3, 3 runs and 2 solo homers, his 2oth and 21st.  Pretty impressive how he’s now had two years in a row that seem completely useless and end up useful.  Not easy to pull off.  Maybe in the offseason I’ll do a Useless Actually Useful All-Star Team.  Some headliners would be Wieters, Ike Davis, Desmond Jennings, Ryan Ludwick, to name a few.

Eduardo Nunez – 0-for-3 with 3 steals.   The Brian L. Hunter cycle!

Clayton Kershaw – Was skipped on Sunday due to his hip being inflamed.  First, by the Getty and now Kershaw’s hip… LA and its stupid fires!  Hopefully, Kershaw not starting didn’t cost you your H2H playoff.  This goes to me liking roto so much more than H2H.  It’s not an accurate representation of baseball.  And that crap about how H2H is like the baseball playoffs is bunk since in the playoffs, the players actually know they’re in the playoffs and they’re not resting for the real playoffs.

Stephen Fife – 5 IP, 2 ER, 5 baserunners, 9 Ks.  You wanna diss the Fife, but you still don’t know the half.  He showed pretty mediocre stuff in the minors.  Okay, now you know the half.

Chris Carpenter – Set to start on Friday.  Great, terrific, sarcastic excitement!  I wouldn’t mess with him with fantasy championships on the line.

Koji Uehara – Recorded the one out save yesterday.  The Rangers said Joe Nathan was unavailable on Friday due to workload issues.  Then on Saturday, he was unavailable because, ya know, he was just chillaxin’, talking up the ladies, maybe doing a little sexting.  Then on Sunday, the Rangers forgot he was their closer and, when reminded, they said Nathan was resting yet again.  I get a sneaky suspicion that today the Rangers are going to say something like, “Joe Nathan has a sore something-or-other and could be out a week.”  The Rangers are headed to the playoffs and probably just want Nathan as rested as possible.  See what I said above about how the H2H playoffs are not an emulation of real playoffs?  Yup.

Matt Harrison – 8 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 7 baserunners, 5 Ks.  Geez, the way he’s beating his xFIP he may as well have dumped Fangraphs Database’s sister to date someone who writes for Bleacher Report.

Justin Smoak – 2-for-3 with his 2nd homer in as many games while revisiting his old stomping grounds in Arlington.  I’m the sure the last two days won’t keep him up nights about what could’ve been, but the Sliding Doors Smoak, who’s still the Rangers 1st baseman, has 35 homers and is headed to the playoffs.

Jose Valverde – 1/3 IP, 2 ER with his 5th blown save.  I can’t wait for the playoffs so the always-informed, Tim McCarver, can call Valverde “reliable.”  That’s if the Tigers make the playoffs with their “reliable” closer.

Alex Avila – He’s day-to-day, leaving yesterday’s game after Prince Fielder ran into him.  Now Avila knows how the clubhouse refrigerator feels.

Andrew Werner – 5 IP, 5 ER.  The Stream-o-Nator took his love of Hodgepadres on the chin in this one.  This game in Petco had a total of 23 runs scored by the Rockies and Padres, as the Padres tried out those new wood-covered aluminum bats.  This game gave me a good idea.  MLB should allow steroids for every player that plays in a pitchers’ park.  Will even out the playing field for hitters in Petco and Safeco.  Imagine at the end of the year with clubs like the Marlins, who are out of it and also in a fairly neutral park (as long as you’re not offended by hideous art work).  The Marlins can try to not score runs at home so they can juice up the following year.  Of course for legal reasons, it wouldn’t be required so there would also be the fun of trying to figure who’s juicing and who’s not.  John Buck has a 7 homer April and the speculation ramps up that he’s Javy Lopezing his way to 40 homers.  Finally, Giancarlo can hit 80 homers in a year, and then takes a urine test right after number 80, showing he wasn’t even juicing.

Logan Forsythe – 4-for-6, 3 runs.  You can’t stop the 1927 Padres, you can only hope they stumble into a vat of HGH cream so they keep this going.

Yonder Alonso – 4-for-5, 1 run, 2 RBIs.  Fun fact!  “Over Yonder Alonso” is the name of my bluegrass mariachi band with our smash hit, “My Mama Married A La Bambardier.”

Chase Headley – 2-for-3, 2 runs, 2 RBIs and his 28th homer.  Headley is a top 5 3rd baseman, according to our Fantasy Baseball Player Rater.  Zoinks!

Troy Tulowitzki – A Rockies beat writer said, “Tulowitzki is aiming to now return the final week of the season.”  I’m not sure if he put the quotes around it because he’s quoting someone else or it’s supposed to be finger quotes because he doesn’t believe Tulo’s returning this year.  I think it’s the latter.

Chris Nelson – 3-for-5, 2 runs.  He’s now hitting over .500 in the last week.  You, sir and four lady readers, are missing out on one of the hottest schmotatoes.

Justin Upton – 2-for-4 with his 2nd homer in as many games.  C’mon, we want J-Upside at the best bargain basement price we can get him for in 2013.  Now would be the time to NOT get hot (caps for emphasis, not aesthetics).

Patrick Corbin – 8 IP, 2 ER, 9 baserunners, 5 Ks and a bases-clearing triple.  He’s showing more tools than the exhibitionist Siamese Twin that almost shares his name.  He goes by, Pat….Rick.

Reached the finals of my 14 team H2H league thanks in no small part to your sage and timely advice, @Grey. Many thanks. Now it’s time to bring it home. The championship round is 17 days and my opponent has been obliterating his competition (won his semi 11-1, and would have clobbered me 10-2), so I’m on high alert.

First question: Drop Mini Donk for Goldschmidt? Or do you smell a homer binge?

i almost added uehara, but chose to instead add casilla, in a lge with holds when i dropped grilli. do you think uehara will have value this week than janssen, jansen or perkins? going to need every save and hold i can get in the semifinals.

in a different lge i’m in the championship round and am considering using my 3rd add of the weel (5 allowed) on an OF. someone just dropped gomez, and if he can get on base vs the buccos he will steal many bags. other available players in that lge are belt & aoki. it’s a 7×7 w OPS & K’s against. i’d be dropping kubel, kendrick or victorino. thoughts?

ps. peralta was the brewers top prospect this year and he is showing his skills at the major lge level. he’s definately worth a flyer late in drafts next year IMO. also very interested in odorizzi. wish he was still a beer-maker.

pps. marte is also available. his k’s throw me off his scent, but i did get a nice 2 weeks out of him earlier this year. i’m now thinking of dropping 2 bats or one and detwiler to add gomez/aoki/marte & belt, because i have 3 different 2 start SP and my opponent only has 1. any advice would be much appreciated.

ppps. love your articles. keep up the good work. please and thank you.

Actually Jepsen getting the next save opp doesn’t seem like much of a surprise. While Walden may be the former closer, the usage pattern that I’d been noticing suggests (perhaps losely) that right now Jepsen is next in line before Walden. Just my not so humble opinion.

  11. papasmurf says:

Even by Sciociapath standards this is pretty nutty. One blown save and Frieri is iced for the next game? (Maybe something happened behind the scenes?) The second place team has him and has FIVE closers on his roster, to make up pts in saves so I ain’t complaining if Frieri is out but wow.

Speaking of crazy managers, that Dusty threw Latos back out there for the 8th after he gave up a run in the 7th. And of course, that results in 3 baserunners and another run. He even let him IBB a guy before leaving just to tack on that extra baserunner. Wonderful!

The ERA/WHIP categories are so dang tightly packed in my league that every single little break could mean first place or second.

But, I still hate Ventura most out of all of them zany skippers.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

@papasmurf, Yeah, true on Latos… Ventura? Why?

      • papasmurf says:
        (link)

@Grey, Ventura loves to throw Sale out there for that extra inning even when the game’s not in doubt anymore. 100+ pitches through 7 in a 9-2 game? No problem! Throw him out there, he needs more work. So of course, he doesn’t last through it. He wastes 15 pitches and takes a hit in both ERA and WHIP.

Who coulda told him that? Just me and probably thousands of Sale owners out there.

Of course, it’s the same guy they tried to shuffle to the pen earlier cuz they feared his arm couldn’t take the innings toll of starting…

What do I do with Todd Frazier? He’s put up fantastic numbers, he’s eligible at 3 positions, and he’s a hell of a ballroom dancer (I’m guessing). But unfortunately, someone is still allowing Dusty Baker to manage the Reds, so the kid sits.

Is Frazier dead weight at this point? I don’t really have room for another keeper, unless someone can convince me that this kid is better than what I’ve already got (he’s not).

Why is it so hard to say goodbye?

@Grey, I’ve got Napoli and Machado as bench bats. I just lost Kershaw (and Maholm looks like he’s done being good), so I need another arm more than I need Frazier at this point (unless I’m keeping him).

Unless I’m keeping Frazier over one of the following names, I’m dropping him: Mike Trout, Carlos Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia, Adam Jones, Evan Longoria, Adrian Gonzalez.

Related query: Is A-Gon worth keeping without the power? I don’t foresee a return to homer totals in the high 30’s, and I’m not in the habit of keeping singles hitters year-to-year. What’s your take on his value, going forward?

I’m going to post my lineup and then fire off my no-pressure-it’s-only-my-season-on-the-line-and-yes-I-realize-you-are-doing-this-out-of-the-goodness-of-your-heart-but-could-you-please-be-absolutely-right-on-these-calls-ok-thanks-bye questions…

    C – Wilin Rosario
    1B – Youkilis
    2B – Espinosa
    3B – Moustakas
    SS – Jimmy Rollins
    MI – Kipnis
    CI – Rizzo
    OF – McCutchen
    OF – Bruuuuuce
    OF – Howie Kendrick
    OF – Desmond jennings
    OF – Coco Crisp
    Util – Dewayne Wise
    Util – Mike Napoli

    Bench – Carlos Gomez

SPs – Greinke, Medlen, Minor, Anibal, Detwiler, Estrada, Kyle Kendrick
    RPs – Perez, Wilhelmsen, Holland
    ———————————————-

Available FA Pitchers: Cobb (Mon vs. Bos, SON 106), Matt Harvey (Tues vs. Phi, SON 111), Jaime Garcia (Thurs vs. Hou, SON 115), Mike Fiers (Thurs @ Pit, SON 112)

Available FA Hitters: Starling Marte, Chris Nelson, Daydro Alvarez, Forsythe

    ———————————————–

    1. I obviously don’t need a bench bat, but I activated Napoli from the DL on Saturday (when he hit a HR) in order to do the old wait-and-see on Carlos Gomez’s quad issue from last week. Gomez appears back, but now I can’t decide who to drop. Today happens to be a short schedule day, so I’m thinking about ditching one of Napoli or Gomez for a batty call to Marte/Chris Nelson/Pedro. What would you do here?

    2. Whomever gets today’s batty call will get dropped tomorrow for a pitcher. I’m thinking of grabbing Matt Harvey (comes off waivers at midnight tonight and I have the top claim) to use against Philly. Do you recommend that (i.e. would you start Harvey on Tues)?

    3.

    4. I currently own Kyle Kendrick, but he was basically a streamboat I held onto from last week and doesn’t throw again until Friday (in an iffy matchup against Arizona). So I’m thinking about dumping him for a hopefully solid streamer and then revisiting Kendrick if I’m really in a jam on Friday. I was contemplating picking up either Fiers or Jaime Garcia for one of their Thursday starts. Problem is that neither guy has inspired confidence of late, but the SON does somewhat like them (Jaime gets a 115, Fiers a 112). Perhaps I do a wait-and-see depending on my pitching stats at that point, or do you think one is worth grabbing sooner?

    5. If you had an open slot for an extra closer, would you go Wilton Lopez or League? I ask because between all these contrived moves, there may be a day or two in which I can rent a closer for the day. Both those guys are on the wire, so just in case, I’d like your opinion.

    6. Thanks so much dude! I’m super excited/worried right now and it feels strangely fantastic. Your help has been so vital and appreciated all season, and I’m hoping I get to send you a victory e-daiquiri at the end of the week.

      @Chillmodious, Dah! I missed one! Here’s question #7:

      7. Would you stream one of Cobb (vs. Boston, SON 106) or Tillman (@ Seattle, SON 94) tonight? Or hold off and don’t chance it?

For those with weekly lineup sets, does anyone have a clue on this Kershaw sitch? If it’s 50/50, I think I’ll roll the dice and keep him in there, but if feels much more dire than that…

    • Chillmodious says:
      (link)

@Crumpy, Every indication is that not only will he miss this week, but he’s likely to be shut down for hip surgery, which would put him out until May 2013(!). If this is a re-draft league, one in the hand is better than two in the Kersh…or something like that.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      @Crumpy, Yeah, he’s likely shut down…

  23. Lob Ball says:

I need to stream someone tomorrow to eat some innings. Ws are the most important followed by Ks and ERA. If the stream-a-nator has Griffin (available) at a strong 119 score but he is facing Scherzer (not available) at a much stronger 144 score does this mean that Griffin is not really a good stream? Would Huff vs MN (Walters) be a better stream than Griffin?

    Thanks

@Lob Ball, I’d prefer Griffin, neither are good…

What up, Grey? Thoughts on Greinke @ TEX; Beckett @ WAS; Pettitte vs. TOR, OAK; or Wood vs. PIT, OAK? This is for my final slot in H2H points league (I KNOW, perfect timing on your H2H blurb!)

If you pull out your trapper keeper from last year and compare it to this year, who has more hearts written on it, Beachy on last years or Medlen on this years?

I mean straight up psychic, but with that power comes the freedom to let it be free. Its a difficult thing to handle…. In 2006 i was cruising in 2nd place and Takashi Saito was just named closer of the Dodgers, now I did not own him, but had Isring who was one of the top closers of the first half of the season, got drunk came home made the offer and got me some Takashi, who went on to be a top three closer the rest of the way and took me to the title in a money league. everyone laughed at me and thought this rookie is crazy, but my gut, and my dad, told me this guy, Saito, is special and hitters are going to have a hard time figuring him out. And they did, that moved saved me because Isring stunck up the joint after that and Turnbow, well lets just say I got Turnbowed.

@Prezii, I felt the same, funny in the concept and the fat guy doing the dance…maybe that was the weed i was smoking that made that good, oh wait, I’m digressing, I was glad to see Gangnam representing and that they actually got psy out there… Melky was probably thinking that if he takes the testo then he can grow a sweeter beard and hence, ala Brian Wilson, get an over-inflated contract that he can coast on while he collects the dollars while never actually putting himself in harm’s way of any injury that might cost him his next contract after the big contract.

Marte is out there, JMaxwell is out there and Ruggiano is out there. I am real tempted to grab one of these guys but well, you know. I’m loaded! 30. Grey, anyone — with the speculation above about Joe Nathan, is Adams worth a pickup in a 16-team roto league where I’m in a three-team dogfight for saves that might decide the title?

To grab Adams I’d have to drop Matt Thorton, David Hernandez, Steve Cishek, Wilton Lopez, or Joaquin Benoit. I know only two of those guys are official closers (Cishek and Lopez) but like I said I’m desperate … should grab Adams over any of the others?

    • Adam says:
      (link)

      @Enrique,

That’s a tough one….Adams would seem to be in slightly better SV position than Thornton/Benoit, but then again he’s still coming off injury himself. Even if Nathan stays out a few more days, the Rangers might prefer to stick with Uehara, who’s been lights out this last week+. And Reed/Valverde have each blown saves recently, so maybe there will be a save or 2 to be had by the backups in the near future.

I’d probably sit put, if it was me. Wouldn’t fault you for going with Adams though…

      • @Adam, Thanks … I had a comfortable lead in saves and needed power and so traded away my closers for some hitters and the lead just dried up.

I hadn’t seriously considered Uehara … he’s available, too. Do you think he’s worth adding over Thorton, Hernandez, or Benoit?

  31. Adam says:

For anyone who wants to chime in:

14 team, weekly lineup roto…..I’m 3 pts behind the overall in 1st, with a good amt of pts to gain on the pitching side. 3 owners ahead of me in ERA by less than .10, 2 owners ahead of my in Ws by just 2.

I have 1 spot left to play 1 of Griffin (@ DET, @ NYY), Hudson (@MIA, @PHI), Fiers (@PIT), or Guthrie (vs CLE). Griffin has been amazing, but has 2 brutal starts. Hudson has been mediocre and has 2 potentially hazardous starts. Fiers seems to be fading, but has handled PIT ok recently. And Guthrie has been pitching well, and has a good matchup, but is still not quite trustworthy in my book.

Which option would you pick? My ERA and W goals seem to be conflicting this week.

  41. A pitching question, Grey (or maybe Rudy?) — The SoN strongly says to start Bumgarner (121 points) and, equally strongly, to sit Fister (87 points) — even though Bumgarner has had four bad starts in a row and Fister has had three good ones. Just curious, but do you know why it did that?

Anyway, is there an argument for starting both under certain circumstances? Or even Fister over Bumgarner? I have both pitchers in two leagues: one a 14-teamer where I most need wins and one a 16-teamer where I most need Ks.

    hello grey

need your thought on these 2 q’s:

    # 1)

standard 12 team 5×5 roto league; 80 innings left to my limit

1 pt behind lead in wins (3 down), 2 others gaining fast and behind by 1 win

in era, behind 3 teams by .02, in whip behind 3 teams by .10

    so, what do i do?

-do i keep going with my sp’s (fyi i have f-her, mad max, medlen and burnett as remaining sp’s) and try to get as many w’s as possible until the limit, knowing the other teams could overtake me soon (they might overtake the leader too, and that would be ok then, but who knows?)

    or

-do i focus on my many rp ‘s (soriano, holland, janssen, storen, balfour, marshall, ogando) and hope to gain more points in era and/or whip before the season ends

what do you think i should do?

    #2)

    different team, different league
start burnett vs. mil? need wins

    thanks for the help

    • Grey

      Grey says:

      1) I’d finish off my 80 IP with my starters… 2) Yeah, I would…

Is it time to set McCann free? HTH playoffs and no bench spots available. McCann seemed to get hot after the shoulder injection, I don’t want to lose him to another team for the next round in case he stays hot, but I’m thinking of grabbing S. Perez because I need someone at C who is playing everyday. I’m still having nightmares about trading R. Zimmerman the day I found out about his injection. (And about the Rasmus girl’s video. That tragedy will haunt my dreams forever.)

    Thanks!

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      I’d grab Perez… Ha!

  55. Prezii says:
    (link)

So martin perez pitches friday @ SEA. is he on a pitch count? Will they be careful with him or do you think he could go 80-90 pitches?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Probably will go 90 pitches, but that could be only 5 plus innings…

      • Prezii says:
        (link)

@Grey, true.. worth a stream or should i stay away? Not many tasty matchups out there at the moment.

    All,

I’m proud to announce that a research paper I’ve been working on for months is finally going to be published in Top Scientific Journal.

The paper is titled, “Established Positive Impact of Day Games on Average Workday Significantly Negated by Presence of Hawk Harrelson.”

The paper’s Abstract is pretty technical, so I’ll spare you.

    • Grey

      Grey says:

  58. Grey-

Roto redraft league, in second place trying to make a last few week run, is Teix going to help at all rest of year?

Can drop him for Nelson Alonso Maxwell Smoak or any other hot schmotato for the immediate future.

Also with Yahoo’s “last day go over the pitching Limit as long as you have one inning left”, what would be the best site to get pitching probables far in advance?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Tex isn’t going to help this year… I’d grab Nelson… CBS goes the furthest in advance for probable SPs…

    1. Donaldson has cooled off. Drop him for who…or whom?

3a. Should I drop Cruz or any of my other underperming ‘stars’ (Votto, Agon Cruz?) for a hot shmotato?
    3b. If so…for whom?

    4. Drop Aybar for Scutaro?

    5. Any other position player you see in need of removal?

6b. Cashner is nowhere to be found on the Stream-O-Nator! Should he be dropped? Who for?

    7. I was way ahead in Saves last week so I dropped a closer. Which available closer should I pick up? Or should I use this spot for Streamin…

A sincere thank you for your help all year. This is the best/my favourite fantasy site and thats due to your writing and interaction with us common folk. So…….Thank You

Travis Travis Wood ya’ll vs. Pitt
Alex “My grandfather Bob invented the Cobb salad” Cobb vs. Bos
Tim “I can’t think of anything that clever to use with his name” Hudson @ Mia

    • Grey

    One more mini question.

Im a Jays Fan…so I dont really rate Jansseen this week @ NYY and @ TB.

Would you use that Kendrick/Janseen spot to Stream SPs or pick up Jansseen knowing he will only get 1 save?

    Which do you like more

    Lynn @ home vs Houston
    Estrada @ Pitt

    Thanks You

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

      Lynn…

  64. Chillmodious says:
    (link)

Oof…Espinosa getting an MRI on his shoulder and already ruled out for the Nats’ series against the Dodgers starting tomorrow.

Being that this is my finals week and he’s looking to miss half of it in a best case scenario, I should drop him immediately for Chris Nelson, yes?

    • Chillmodious says:
      (link)

      @Chillmodious,

Options for an Espinosa replacement are: Chris Nelson, Forsythe, EverCab, Napoli, Pedro Alvarez. Who’s the best of the bunch for the rest of the week?

      • Grey

        Grey says:
        (link)

Grab Pedro for power, EverCab for speed and Nelson for all around counting stats…

      Yup

  65. Poo Holes says:

      Aw, man, that sucks… Sorry…

  66. Hondo says:
    (link)

Would you start Pettite tommorow or leave him on the DL and take a look?I picked up Beckham for a body today and have no problem losing him with Weeks and Espi(my SS)eligible at 2B to clear a spot.

Also-I’ve got Machado and Reynolds as my only 3B guys. Since they both play for the O’s if it rains,I’m effed.
Machado is my backup SS and Reynolds is cold right now.

I’m thinking about dropping one of them and either going with no backup at 3B and praying or hope for a hot schmotato to appear.

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

I’d leave Pettite on my DL…

  67. Jon says:

      Lawrie, Hosmer, Aybar…

      • Jon says:
        (link)

        @Grey, sit those 3? I wouldn’t have expected that…

        • Grey

          Grey says:
          (link)

Lawrie and Hosmer have done nothing… Aybar’s been hot, so I could see him over Victorino, Frazier… Really none of them have been great…

  68. Hondo says:

Also- Dunn or Belt for 2 playoff series?

In a vacuum, do you like Chris Nelson better than Forsythe for the week?

    • Grey

      Grey says:
      (link)

Not really… Pretty much a coin flip though, depends which one you’re feeling… Logan has more power, Nelson’s been slightly hotter…

  70. Deadwoods says:

Scutaro or Nelson H2H this week. Their numbers are almost identical over the past 7 days. Thanks

Generally speaking, if you’re streaming SP in a limited moves league (5/wk), do you load up early to build a cushion and force your opponent into rash decisions, or save your moves for late in the week in case you need them?

Concrete example: 3 moves left this week, I kinda like Archer v BOS (Dice-K) Wednesday (SON 103) and Zito v COL (de la Rosa) Thursday (SON 110), but are either of them worth going into the weekend with only 1 or 2 pickups left?
